I have been here several times over the years and what I appreciate is that this place knows how to evolve with the times, from originally opening up as the place to go to on the strip when I was in college to a networking spot when I was in business school and even to 2025 where they now have a fun and festive Mariah Carey Holiday Bar for the holidays. Skybar is located at the Mondarin Hotel. Entry is to the right of Casa madera. I went for the Mariah Carey pop up. Aesthetically they did a wonderful job. Vibes and layout was MC all the way. The pre purchase ticket came with the option of only two drinks which I wish the whole cocktail menu was available. Otherwise the cocktails were okay, nothing amazing and definitely not worth the price. There was also limited seating-- I wish they provided more seating options to the tickets sold. The karaoke booth was also a great idea but the music in the head phones was different than what was playing in the actual booth so made it confusing. Also the $9.99 price for two songs was definitely a money grab and didn't understand the booth so we lost out on one song. Overall, fun idea but could have been better. read more

We came for Mariah's Pop-Up Holiday Bar -- and if you love Mariah, Christmas, and fun photoshoot moments, this is absolutely the place to be! The vibe between day and night is totally different, and I'm so grateful we came back in the evening because the energy was magical. I'm also a HUGE Mariah fan! First off, it gives ALL the Mariah holiday feels. We had two amazing servers -- Scott R., you were such a gem to my husband and me. Came here for a Mariah Carey/Xmas themed pop up bar and it was a lot of fun!! We got checked in and the staff were all super friendly. The bar was fully decked out in Xmas decor and there were so many cute photo ops! There wasn't an option to purchase food, but the drinks were very delicious. Lots of different seating areas as well and they even do a fake snow show. They sell tickets online which include a welcome drink. The parking in this street is crazy at anytime of day, the hotel itself offers valet for $25 which is what we did. Lots of restaurants in the area to finish the night off as well. The Dj's were on rotation. It was fun. The pool which is adjacent to bar; crowded. Pricey cocktails; $23 for a glass of Prosecco. Bathrooms clean but too small for the crowd. Good views; not amazing, not great, not wow. I think it's because I've seen better. Attentive valet staff. Front desk employees very casual. I guess it's West Hollywood / L. A? Sky Bar, I got you out of my system. Once was enough for me. You should get it out of your system too; but only once. --LOL-- Oh; be warned, if you buy a cocktail at the Sky Bar and want to take into the hotel which is the same exact building and walking distance from each other and even as a guest of the hotel, which I was, you can't take your cocktail with you. Cute pool but, be warned if you come here. This bar automatically adds a 20-22% gratuity to every check. That in itself is arguably OK -- lots of places do it. BUT instead of being transparent about it, they present the bill in a way that feels intentionally misleading. The check is clipped so the top portion (where the auto-tip is listed) is covered, leaving only the blank "add tip" line showing. Unless you carefully move the clip and read the fine print, you'd think no tip was included and end up TIPPING TWICE. That's not just a questionable business practice -- it could very well be ILLEGAL. Restaurants and bars are required to disclose service charges and automatic gratuities clearly. Hiding it so customers accidentally double tip is deceptive and feels like a scam. It completely ruined the experience for me. Instead of leaving with a good impression of the drinks (watered down btw), I left feeling tricked and taken advantage of. Transparency matters, especially when it comes to people's money. If you do decide to go, check your bill closely before paying. Personally, I wouldn't recommend supporting a place that operates this way. There are too many good bars out there to waste time and money on one that relies on misleading tactics. If management wants to discuss this in case they feel like not all staff does it and it could just be one particular bartender, I'm happy to chat -- otherwise you should take a really good hard look at yourself and consider if you think you'll be in business a year from now. read more

The waitress was predatory and tried to get me to bid for the seating area I was ordering from with a small group since the event first started! Absolutely unacceptable experience. I waited at the bar for over 20 minutes trying to order a drink -- and not a single bartender acknowledged me. I wasn't in a crowd or being pushy. I was just standing there alone, visibly trying to get service. At one point, a barback (who repeatedly told people he wasn't technically working) decided to help -- but instead of asking me what I wanted, he turned to the man standing next to me and offered to help only him. That man -- to his credit -- even tried to direct him to me, but the barback responded, "No, I'm only serving you." I don't know what the reason was. Maybe because the guy next to me was tall, white, and male. I don't want to make assumptions -- but after standing there for 30 minutes without a glance in my direction, I was left feeling invisible and completely disrespected. Nothing says holiday magic quite like stepping into a venue that immediately hits you with the nostalgic aroma of diarrhea lightly blended with pool chlorine. It was as if Santa himself had mixed a festive potpourri to remind us that Christmas is really about surprises. Our three tickets, a bargain at seventy four dollars, came with charming generic drink vouchers redeemable for one of two signature Christmas cocktails. Each cocktail arrived lovingly garnished with a plastic ornament that had been dipped into the drink for reasons that can only be described as visionary. Martha Stewart could never. The ambiance was where Skybar truly shined. The famed sky view was hidden behind a nice opaque tent, which really allowed us to focus inward and appreciate the roomful of about ten equally stunned guests. The heat inside made it feel like a holiday sweat lodge, which is perfect if your Christmas wish is to experience what it might feel like inside a reindeer stable on a warm day. The experience was so immersive and so unforgettable that we left almost instantly. Some memories are simply too powerful to hold on to. Five stars. Would absolutely recommend if you want a sick venue that makes you sick, we left immediately because the ambiance was too much to hold in our cookies. read more

Our waiter walked away in the middle of me speaking while I was trying to order with him. He was a complete a*hole and should not be a waiter. The Skylar is a classic staple Hollywood elite bar and it's always tricky to get in on those hit vibrant Friday and Saturday nights. My best experience here was when I went in my 20's with a fairly large group of 7-8 people. It is already hard to get in with just 2 but your chances go down significantly when you roll up with a group any larger than that. But we were young, eager, and had a desire to check out one of the coolest bars in town. So when we approach the front, the big tall bouncer sees the size of our group and sizes us up seeing that we're not yet the established high status clientele that they're used to catering but he could see our young energetic vibrancy we were exuding. So he says we're pretty full right now but I'll let you guys in if you can sing a song or chant. Being that I was in a sorority at UCLA I knew the UCLA Fight Song. So I excitedly raise my hand and say I could sing the chant. So I jump right into the following song of the "Sons of Westwood:" "We are sons of Westwood. We've seen you in all different incarnations from celebrity hot spot to your pool parties to our mid-week 'community pool' getaway and every time your hospitality exceeds expectations and keeps us returning for more. For those of you who haven't been I'd describe it as a cocktail bar with a pool, as anyone (staying at the Mondrian or not) can come by for a drink and sit in a window booth overlooking the city of WeHo or to work on your tan poolside. Some might not think that's novel but there aren't many hotel pools you can relax at without being a guest or paying for a day pass. You'll probably find your drink on their extensive cocktail menu but if not the bartenders can pretty much make anything from classics to whatever you can look up online (within reason). Prices are what you'd expect for a hotel bar and keep in mind standard gratuity is now automatically added. The pandemic closed down the adjacent restaurant on the hotel grounds so currently the fare is from a nearby eatery that is delivered, however in mid-January '23 a modern Mexican restaurant named Casa Madera (from the same group that owns Toca Madera and Tocaya) is debuting and should provide more options. In the winter SkyBar has the entire pool + deck clear tented and it has a greenhouse effect going on so when it's sunny outside (and no matter the actual temperature) it feels like summer never left including needing to dip in the pool to cool off - we were literally sweating the day after Christmas. The tent also keeps out the weather, it poured on NYE for hours and the place kept dry. They've recently installed a couple TV's by the bar and bar seating to enjoy watching sports during the day. Their summer pool parties have become legendary with various promotional groups bringing in international DJ's (typically house music) and it's a see-and-be-seen environment so you might want to lay off those carbs and salt. From Taylor at the door to Lo and Jaimes behind the bar to Jorge working his tail off, they are always there to make your visit more enjoyable and are just great people. Whether more towels are needed, you want your drink made with modifications or just make casual conversation you are completely covered without feeling like you've inconvenienced someone. I've read other reviews commenting on the big parties that are thrown here and those experiences depend a lot on the companies putting them on with a lot of factors in play, some are huge hits and some fall flat. I'll say this about any evening out, it's what you make of it, so come in with a plan to have fun and you will. read more

Small bar. Small space. The vibe is chill. The staff is chill. Relatively tame on a Wednesday night. In comparison, the next door restaurant was a scene. It's not a bad place to hang out. This place has a great vibe. You enter from inside of the hotel, and then head up to the rooftop. When we went, it was not very crowded and the service was good. The drinks are a little pricey, but are very good and worth the money. I did expect it to be a higher rooftop and look over downtown and it is not that. Service was a nightmare. Paid for 2 very watered down drinks for $45 using ApplePay then the bartender claimed the transaction did not go thru even though they had received the funds. I asked to speak to the manager who admitted that this sort of thing happens in their register system ALL THE TIME, yet he made me pay again. So now I've just paid $90 for 2 drinks! Are you kidding me?! He claimed that because the transactions are pending they won't receive their money until Monday. How is this MY problem or my fault?!!!! Grrrr! I will follow up this review on Monday to update whether Alex will refund the mistake they've made in double charging me. In the meantime, I strongly advise that you avoid this place at all cost unless you just like throwing away your money in a scam business. SkyBar was my go-to when I stepped into this city a long time ago. Staying at the Mondrian ensured entry, and this was definitely the place to be. During my early day pool visits, the bartender used to have plastic cups of pretzel Goldfish crackers which in turn, make you thirsty. Everyone wins! The view of the city on the far side of the pool was beautiful day or night, and the giant daybed always had way too many people on it at any given time. The waitresses all looked like mermaids and the crowd was an interesting mix of foreigners and trendy local who were in the business of some sort. I met a guy who claimed he was into producing 'films of an adult nature' and offered an invitation up to his suite. Even though I would have liked to have seen the nicer rooms, I declined since I wasn't interested in dying or worse on this trip.
