I really often don't like fan and game stores but this one does it well. An absolute great gamut of fan and throwbacks across all the 80-90-00's material for toys and games, comics. Front and back with free to play arcade games means you can make a bit of time of it, hit the nearby brunch then wander down either memory or fandom lanes. A good showing here and well curated that shows they get it, without seeming like they're "too" interested in the odd hyper price hike cash grab in the space in some of the fandom frenzy areas. I was surprised by how large Tosche Station Echo Base is. The store is split into two rooms: the front room is dedicated to toys and collectibles, while the back room is packed with comics. They have a huge selection of action figures, statues, used video games, retro video games, and, of course, comics. The comic room has a ton of back issues, organized primarily by publisher--Marvel, DC, and independent. There are also several random long boxes without labels, along with a table containing several boxes labeled "Keys." There were also 3-4 short boxes of "key issues" scattered around the checkout counter. Fair warning: these boxes aren't particularly organized. Saying they're "loosely alphabetized" would probably be giving them too much credit. That said, if you enjoy digging through boxes looking for hidden gems, this can be a fun place to treasure hunt--as long as you have the time and patience. I'm a Spawn collector, and the designated Spawn section only had a handful of issues. However, I ended up finding several more Spawn issues scattered throughout the "Key" boxes on the table in the back. I even found more in the "Key" boxes at the checkout counter. I think consolidating all of these boxes into one organized area would make the shopping experience much better. It's fun finding unexpected issues, but when you're specifically hunting for something, it can be frustrating when the boxes aren't organized or alphabetized. As for pricing, the comics are generally priced fairly. Some of the variants and key issues are priced a bit on the high side, though, so it's worth knowing your values before making a purchase. The back room also has a free-to-play arcade cabinet, which is a nice bonus and adds to the retro vibe. The staff was nice and very helpful, which made the visit even better. Overall, this is a great spot for collectors who enjoy the treasure-hunt experience. If you have some time to spend digging through boxes, you never know what you might uncover. I know this place as just Echo Base. I didn't know it's called Tosche Station, lol. This is a full-on nerd town. There's everything from comic books and figures to games from Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Warhammer, and anything else you can think of. Some comic books are cheaper than on Amazon. I bought some on Amazon as gifts, only to realize after that, this place has them cheaper! I was just browsing and didn't have any questions or requests from the staff, but based on interactions with others, they know their stuff. This is not a surface-level, small store where they display a tiny collection. They have almost everything. I think that's the most important thing you need to know about this place. I did notice the retro consoles and games like the SNES are priced quite steeply here. They are rare to come by in Northern Virginia, so I'd expect that. read more

Today was my first visit to Echo Base. Navid was awesome! He offered quality service and even came in on his day off to help trade-in some of my collection. Toche Station Echo Base is the kind of place we're at risk of losing -- and we shouldn't. It's everything good about old-school comic shops: welcoming, full of cool finds, and built around real community. Navid, the manager, treated my 5-year-old like a VIP, telling him the full backstory of a Darth Vader TIE Fighter toy he picked out. He made everyone feel seen -- kids, adults, lifelong fans. With new tariffs crushing comics (mostly made in Canada) and toys (mostly made in China), small shops like this can't just ride it out like the big box stores. They survive because people like us show up. If you're tired of toxic online fandoms and soulless corporations mining geek culture for profit, come here. This place got a lot of great things from toys, cards, animations, comics, mini arcade, and beyond. Remind me so much of Another Universe back in the good old days. Prices are fair. After all, they have to make a living and can't compete with somewhat lower prices like the online store on some items. Customer service is great/friendly and they are very knowledgeable. Come in and find those childhood toys your mom gave to Goodwill that are now worth a small fortune. I was excited to see all the toys I grew up playing with. It's a little overwhelming how much cool stuff you will find. There are a lot of vintage and new comics. You will find new and used toys from brands like, Star Wars, TMNT, WWE, Legos,, GI Joe and many more. They have a variety of vintage games for super Nintendo, Nintendo, PlayStation and much more. You will also find a selection of anime. Overall this store is cool. The customer service is very friendly and helpful. The prices are a bit high but it's to be expected for collectables. I think it's good to pay a little extra to a support local business. You and your kids will love it. read more

If you love Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Super Mario Bros, and plenty of other classic universes, then you need to check out Echo Base. As soon as I walked inside, I felt like I traveled back in time. They had games, toys, and comics that made me feel like a kid again. I spent a half an hour just looking around the shop. At one point I decided to play the throwback 90s arcade Simpsons game in the back. It was free to play too! The staff was really friendly. I got to meet and speak to John, the manager. I could tell how passionate he was about the store, collectors, and the culture. It was my first time going there, but I will definitely go back with a friend in the future. I went in here yesterday on my day off looking to buy some video games and funko pops. For the most part, I was having a nice time. However, while looking at comic books at the checkout counter, an employee started a conversation with me. He asked if it was my day off and then told me each individual thing he did on his day off on Wednesday. He tells me that going to bars would be more fun with friends but he doesn't have anyone to go with. Then, totally unprovoked, he says to me "no offense but females are difficult" and he doesn't need difficulty in his life, while simultaneously complaining that he has no one to spend time with. Why he felt comfortable enough to start a conversation with a woman to complain about "females" is beyond me. It was unbelievably strange and incredibly disrespectful. I have no idea how he rationalized that or why you'd say that to a stranger. None. I put the item I wanted back and left immediately. I should've left the minute the one and only other woman in the store did. Really gross, disrespectful, and strange experience. If you see a white guy at the counter with the sides of his head shaved and bangs on top, stay away. Do not let that man speak to you, especially if you are a woman. I will not be stepping foot in this store again. read more

To say this place is great, doesn't cut it. I really love this place! The staff is awesome - beyond helpful! When I have my kid and his buddies together, we love to stop in. Every one of them likes something different about the shop. There are free video games to play. Old and new and comics, vintage games and figurines, and books for every reading level. The toy cases are like tiny museums. I use to hang out in places like this for hours with my friends and it really went a long way to feed my imagination in just about everything else that came after. I am glad that the comic book spot is making a comeback and you don't have to have a device to enjoy it. read more
