Stopped in to check out Big Planet Comics on 2026 Free Comic Book Day. Never been to this comic book store before. Lots of customers - which is a good sign. As others have noted - this is a pretty small store. It might be the smallest comic book store I've seen in the area. But - small is not necessarily a negative. They have a good selection of comics. They also have a small selection of D&D books and dice. After perusing the store - I did not find anything I wanted, but I'll have to drag a couple of my nerdy comic book friends over to check the place out and get their take on the place. #BigPlanetComics read more

It's not the biggest comic book store, but they have many of the new releases and post regularly on their site new comics they are getting in, which is great if you are looking for something specific. Good prices, interesting titles (I bought a children's book called Bea Wolf - yes it is a children's version of Beowulf where gold is replaced by candy ... and no, I don't have kids ... but how could I pass that up?!? It was good by the way ), and helpful staff make this is a great neighborhood staple! read more

I love this place, a cozy shop that's packed to the brim with great material. The staff are also really sweet, chill enough to give you space to just look around but more than willing to assist you with anything you might need to ask. I take all my friends here! read more

3/5/21 I was looking forward to seeing what comics are in this store today. Unfortunately the store appears to be closed. You must call ahead and pay for the comics you want. Then and only then are you allowed to come to the store. When you arrive at the store, you will not be able to go into the store. Due to the Coronavirus and stoping the spread, Big Planet Comics will bring your order out to you while you are sitting in your car. I have a feeling they will deliver your order to your passager side window to avoid physical contact between you and them This is the way things are for now. I will have to return at a later time and be able to browse through the many comics. I understand the safety precautions going on, but it is still a let down just the same. read more

Called around for drawer boxes since a couple of mine were water damaged in storage somehow. called two stores and this one had them. I drive out and they had the amount I needed and already assembled too. While there I looked through their back issues and though a small store it's well organized. Upon entering I was greeted and asked if I needed anything. I've been to other comic stores in DC area where they don't do this. I have my eyes on some back issues so I'd make the drive back over there. read more

Had a great experience here on a brisk Wednesday afternoon. Apparently it was the first day the store has been open in months and the dude behind the counter couldn't have been cooler. Great prices, tip top selection and awesome vibe. A+ read more

Pros - Neatly organized, friendly service, clean store front inside and outside. Nicely stocked new comics; easy to find titles. Good selections of TPBs as well. Plenty of easy free parking. I like to choose a store and stay loyal to it- the Vienna location is really great because of the staff and they always offer to order comics or volumes that they don't have in-store. I have Tourettes Syndrome, so I make sounds when I am excited which sets off every time I walk in, and now they greet me as soon as I come through the door. They all know which comics I like and are always fun to talk to. This is an amazing place to be and very organized! read more

Good comic book shop with great service. They don't have a HUGE selection and they were out of a couple of things I was looking for, but they are very quick to order what I need. The arrival time is a little far out, but their willingness to accommodate and even call their other store to check inventory was very nice. The prices are decent, the cheapest comic I bought being $2.99, which is better than another place I went to across town having issues from the same series for $3.29. I will be back for sure (and not only because I have some things on order lol). read more

This is hands-down the best comic book store. The staff is absolutely amazing and very knowledgeable and willing to recommend books. This place packs a lot into one space! And don't let the small storefront fool you, they carry a wide array of items from comicbooks, trade paper backs, manga (old and new), graphic novels, arts-focused books (graphic design, drawing, etc) with a bit of merchandise like t-shirts and card games. More importantly, the staff there is very friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable (but if you ask their honest opinion on a series, be prepared for them to give it to you - but with a smile). I stopped by yesterday and was able to find every issue I was looking for except for one, which they just sold out of prior to my arrival. I'm going to blame this unfortunate situation on the treacherous Tyson's Corner traffic that turns all major thoroughfares here into massive parking lots of despair [the shop is located in the Wolftrappe Shopping Plaza right off of route 123]. Stop by if you're in the area, ESPECIALLY during rush hour. Who knows? Even if you're not that into comics come by and check out their selection, you might be pleasantly surprised and find something you like. Beats sitting in that parking lot, right? read more

I've been shopping at Big Planet Comics for more than 15 years (ugh.... i'm getting old). Having collected since I was 12, I've been to a variety of different places, from buying off the rack at Record Town back in the day to various shops where the owner is basically Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons. I have to say that the folks at Big Planet are knowledgeable, friendly, and never look down at anyone, no matter what kind of books they read or are interested in. They've recommended quite a few books that I've grown to love over the years, and are quite adept at sharing WHY a book might be interesting for me. read more

There are two comic stores in Vienna; this one and EG Comics. The good things about Big Planet: This one has an awesome selection of new comics, including lots of alternative and small publishers. The store is small but clean and organized. The bad: They sell out fast of some comics (Bad if you can't get there on Wednesdays), and they don't sell back issues. Also, the staff isn't all that friendly--when I've been, they alternate between ignoring me and acting indifferent to me. Overall, I go to EG more because the guy that runs it is really nice (even if he's a little weird), and they sell back issues (including lots of boxes of collectible comics.) read more

Since separating from my other half (Ryan C.), I have come away with an absolute obsession for the Walking Dead comics. He always bought them and now that I'm on my own I can't not know what's going on with Rick and Negan and Michonne! I decided to pick up the latest issue and while looking for a place close to my work (near the Vienna metro), I came across this place. I was happy to see that it was close by and had such good ratings! Its a small place, pretty unassuming, but it has a huge selection of comics inside. I went up to the front and asked for the latest issue of the Walking Dead (I'm pretty new to buying comics so I figured thats what I was supposed to do). The guy standing there was super friendly and pointed me to the shelf holding them, saying he thought they were still in stock. I grabbed one and while he rang me up he told me how the 100th issue flew off the shelves, which is good info to know. I asked him about the free comic day and he also gave me more info on that; I was hoping it was a day where you could get any free comic you wanted but he informed me that it was specific comics being handed out for free. We laughed about how awesome it would be if you could really pick any comic you wanted for free! This place has a really positive vibe, and I look forward to going back and getting my next issue of Walking Dead. :D read more

They ALWAYS have the newest issues that I'm looking for. They are always very helpful in finding what you need or even recommending other issues based on what you're buying. I stop by this shop almost every week when I can to see whats out. I just wish they would open one in Falls Church so the trip was a little shorter for me. Other than that I cant complain! read more

i love this place! even though it's a small shop, they've got a great selection, very welcoming atmosphere, and a friendly but not intrusive staff. i feel lucky to live so close to such a gem of a shop. it's a great place if you're looking to buy a unique gift or something to read on your down time. admittedly i don't know a whole lot about comics and that world, but they were happy to answer my questions and seemed very well read so i felt i could trust their recommendations and so on. over all just a pleasant experience each time i've gone. two thumbs up read more

They always have a huge selection of new stuff, plus everyone there is super friendly. Being a woman, I'm always nervous walking into geeky establishments but I never feel weird about my nerdy girlishness here. The staff always chats with me about new books and stuff I like and one time even recommended a game they were selling called Risk: Legacy, which is basically the best thing ever. They have lots of little side things too like Munchkin sets. They put a lot of emphasis on small press folks and local publishers so there's lots of that stuff too. It's a great little place always has the comics I need!

I was stuck in traffic and decided to duck in here for a little bit one day, and was pleasantly surprised. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, they have a wide selection of comics, anthologies and a whole rack devoted to independent underground comic books-- which is something I haven't seen anywhere else. If they don't stock it or regularly carry it, they're more than eager to set up a subscription for you or special order it. read more

Small shop, but an impressive and well-organized selection of new comics and loads of graphic novels in a variety of genres, as if the store is somehow bigger on the inside. This shop isn't very close to me, so I don't keep my comic subscriptions here, but it's been a great place to discover graphic novels. I appreciate that there's a whole section of graphic novels for younger readers. Service is usually friendly and helpful, and I've been very pleased with some of the recommendations I've received. read more

This place is my spot. Occasionally out of convenience I'll find myself in another comic book store but I'm never more comfortable than when I'm at Big Planet. I'm not a huge comic book nerd, I just like what I like. Sometimes when I go to comic book stores I get either table upon tables of kids playing Pokemon or punky 20 somethings who are too cool. I can go here, browse have a conversation and not feel out of place. They are very friendly and inviting. While the space is small it has all the literature you could ever one. I don't hand out 5 stars all the time but this place deserves it . read more

First comic shop I've been too, and I was blown away. The first thing I noticed was how small the place was, but after looking for a couple things, I realized it really is the perfect size for a comic shop. They have a wall dedicated to back issues, and another (smaller) wall dedicated to new ones. I didn't take a look at the trade paperbacks (1/2 the store is comics, the other half is TPBs), but I noticed they had a section dedicated to DC Showcase Presents and Essential collections. When I asked about a Ultimate Comics Spider-man (I hadn't noticed the wall of new comics), and the man behind the counter was happy to help. I found what I was looking for, and then some. The only thing wrong with the store that I can think of is that it's in Vienna. :P Great place to shop, I'll definitely be back again. read more

It's a strange comic shop! The place is always clean, well lit and staffed by competent friendly people. You're not going to find the Simpsons' "comic book guy" here. They have an extensive inventory of comics and trade paperbacks. Since I buy a great deal of TP's I'm especially grateful for the deep inventory and, more importantly, the staff's willingness (that borders on enthusiasm) to special order anything I request. After they get to know you they begin to make recommendations that are spot on. They don't have back issues in the usual sense but they do keep many titles up to six months back on the racks at cover price. A very nice touch. read more

This is a nice little shop that you would never notice from the road in Vienna. The day I went there were two ladies running the shop that were very helpful. They specialize in current issues and graphic novels, with a small amount of other merchandise. The shop is well lit, and not cramped, and the staff was friendly. There was plenty of parking in front on Saturday afternoon, but I'm not sure what it would be like during the week when they other shops were up and running.
