Some people have porn addictions...some people (like myself) have stationary addictions. Paper Source is the sole reason I don't have a retirement fund. Every time I walk in this store (which is often) I drop at least $50 on random goods such as fruit shaped paper clips, bicycle themed notebooks, thin felt tipped pens in assorted colors, and birthday cards with Bea Arthur on it. I have been engaged for about six months now and the ONLY thing I have done concerning wedding planning is take Paper Source's "Bridal Workshop" course. During the course I learned everything from creating a stylish color palette to how to personalize stationary at a low cost with their dry embossing tools. They also hold classes for book binding, stamping, and paper flower making which I am interested in taking as well! This is a great place for crafters, paper fans, and lovers of all things cute to converge and be happy. read more

I took one of the holiday gift wrapping workshops last year. It was excellent! You pay one flat fee, bring two presents to the store and they will show you how to wrap it and create bows. They provide you with materials and you can purchase extra at a discount for taking the class. This year because of Covid they are charging MORE for VIRTUAL classes and they don't even give you any supplies like they always did in the past! So now not only do I have to pay more for the classes but I don't even get any perks?!? I'm extremely disappointed, since I used to love this place...Yet another taking advantage of covid example. read more

The name of this story is Paper Source. So, I thought it was pretty reasonable to reach the conclusion that it would sell... paper. Silly, silly me. I've been in here at least three times looking to buy paper good for correspondence or invitations. I have been frustrated each and every time. The majority of the sales floor and the sales force are focused upon the 'front' of the store, which seems to specialize in chotchkies you give to your sister-in-law for Christmas because you can't think of anything else. You know - the little items that seem funny at the time and then just turn into clutter? Paper Source has the market cornered there. Way in the back, out of sight, is the actual paper. Except, the selection and the stock is depleted and incomplete. It's incredibly frustrating. When I came in here to pick up supplies to create formal invitations, I had to change my color scheme at least three times to be able to purchase enough matching items. I came in here again to get some 'cover letter' weight quality paper in a ecru/cream color to print out 200 letters. They had nothing in stock at that weight between a brilliant white and a creamy yellow. I spent more than 5 minutes during each of these visits waiting for assistance and, when I received it, the attitude upon realizing they didn't have the stock further confirmed my suspicions that selling paper is not how Paper Source turns a profit. This location is very disappointing. I recommend the Old Town Alexandria location. Bigger floor, bigger selection, much more attentive and helpful sales staff. read more

I know that the art of letter writing is going by way of the dinosaur, but for someone who still has a bit of old school on occasion when I send a handwritten note this place has a nice assortment of things to choose from. A rather large location for a Paper Source compared to others I've seen. The store is laid out quite well and let's you shop without feeling like you're trampling someone like the Georgetown location. Inside you can find the typical array of cards, gags, and men being escorted about by their wives/girlfriends. I'm always a sucker for the gag gifts and settled on buying my cousin an emoji pillow - those who know my sense of humor will immediately guess which one...and probably run over to make a like-minded purchase. A good store, friendly staff, and well lit. Definitely wouldn't mind trailing The Fiancée through here again. read more

I really love this place. I would always walk by the store and drool but over the weekend I finally had a reason to walk in and purchase something. The store is pretty neat and inspires you to be creative. There's a wall of greeting cards, note cards, invitations, stamps, tissue and wrapping paper, etc. What I was most interested in was the big wall in the back that stored paper and envelopes of different shapes, sizes, and colors. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. While I didn't particularly need help, I loved that the sales associates checked up on me to make sure I was going all right. I was determined to buy only what I needed (I could have spent a lot of money there) so I made it my mission to get in, get what I needed, pay, and get out. Well I spent probably an extra half our drooling over the cute and smart gifts they had available or all the lovely stationery that made me want to write snail mail more often. I definitely recommend this store for people who need invitations or stationery made whether you are doing it yourself or you need a consultant to work with you. I would have given them a zero if I could have. During the COVID-19 crisis, they advertised that they have 2-oz hand sanitizers with 8 different scents and if you placed 1 order, one of each scents would be included in the order, meaning 8, 2-oz hand sanitizers for a price of about $8. Add another $8 for shipping and handling, you would end up paying about $16 for your order, which is a fair price for 8 small hand sanitizers. This is a false advertisement. I placed the order and today I received my package. It only had 1, 2-oz sanitizer!! What they forget to mention is that the order does to contain 8, but only one 2-oz sanitizer!! I called their customer service department but the call automatically dropped me after I made a choice to talk to someone. This is also a clear example of price gauging! $16 for a 2-oz sanitizer. I went to this location because it offers the "Happy Returns" service. The staff member who helped me (Peggy Decker) had an unpleasant attitude toward me throughout my return process. As if I were inconveniencing her, making comments about the difficulty of the process as if it was somehow my fault. I tried to be as helpful as possible, and also expressed that I had not gone through this process before. She slowly scrutinized every item I was returning in a way that made me feel uncomfortable, going out of her way to find any reason at all not to accept an item for return. Overall, my experience at the store was not pleasant. Being able to get my returns processed without shipping items back was slightly more convenient, but not convenient enough that I would think twice about using the Reston Paper Source location again. read more

I was in the store picking out Christmas presents for my 10 going on 20 year old and inadvertently knocked over an entire display shelf of glass and porcelain. After surveying the carnage the manager Peggy Decker deftly and politely declined my offer to pay. I own a business and was very impressed with her aplomb. As it turned out she was also able to find me the Holy Grail of last minute gifts: a "Grumpy Cat" on Christmas Eve. Needless to say this has become my gift shop of choice. read more

Paper Source is wonderful and I can definitely spend some time (and money) perusing the cute gift items, the cards, crafting projects, and the wall of beautiful papers. They even have bookbinding materials, but their selection of do-it-yourself cards and invitation papers is perhaps the best part. We actually made our wedding invitations, escort cards, gift card box, guest book, and all kinds of other wedding related items using materials and ideas from Paper Source. I've been coming to Paper Source for years and have always had a great experience... Except for yesterday 6/7/17. As usual, the selection is always amazing and their stuff is just adorable, but it was the manager on duty (let's just say her name begins with an S) who was absolutely unfriendly and unwelcoming. I know she is the manager on duty because her name tag said M.O.D.). She was working on a handmade card when I approached her to ask a question about a product. There was nobody else around to ask so I had no choice but to interrupt her. She was in the process of drawing something on a card and she made me feel like I had just interrupted Picasso in the middle of a masterpiece. Her irritation was extremely evident. Anyway, checking out was the same thing. She was just rude and unfriendly. Never said thank you, nothing. Of course I will go back to paper source because it's my favorite store but I just hope she never has to help me again. read more
