Disappointed to have to leave 2 stars, I have been coming here for a while now and always enjoy the food . Somewhat authentic not the friendliest except the owner he's pretty courteous and quickly to serve you. Simple but cute it's not meant for you to stay too long . We stopped by on a recent trip to Pasadena with our friends and kids (4 adults, 4 kids). We enjoyed a solid lunch. Pricing was competitive for the area. I had an al pastor torta, which had good flavor, and was not too dry (something I sometimes find with tortas). There are a few indoor seats, although there was more covered outdoor patio seating in a little covered alley next door which helped accommodate our larger group (and helped with COVID safety). When the indoor area started to fill up, one of the employees made a point of propping open the door to increase airflow, which was smart and appreciated given that it was the height of omicron. The salsas have a great flavor and the chips are light and non-greasy. They are generous with salting the chips so if that's not your thing, ask them to cut back on the sodium. I always seem to forget about Tortas until I'm walking or driving right past it, but it like to think it's a function of the fact that the food here is so delicious that the human mind is not capable of absorbing the fact. If it is to their benefit, they will not be there for the customer if they get their order wrong, or if their descriptions are incorrect to to their fault completely garbage of customer. Ordered in the restaurant to go. Two tortas and one burrito. Waited 45 minutes at 5:30pm on a Sunday for the order. Unfortunately it was not worth the wait. Chicken tortas were awful. Meat was dry and flavorless except for a pocket or two of salt. No other flavors added. Raw onion, lettuce, tomato and a whole jalapeño thrown in. No mayonnaise or guacamole or whatever else. One of the torta buns was smooshed completely flat and grilled severely. Obviously the cook put very little effort into the order. It looked and tasted like a rush job. For us, the food was overrated and over priced. Maybe a one off, but we won't be back soon. read more

Really not sure what was going on here yesterday, but my order did not come at the quality it typically does. I ordered asada nachos, which were pooled with grease from the asada. The cheese here is never melted enough on the nachos to make a grease pool like that. The asada was obscenely salty and had a weird grainy texture. I also ordered two sopes, asada and carnitas. The sopes I've gotten here before were made with a thicker fried masa base. Yesterday's came with fried tortillas, 1 for each, so it was pretty much a broken taco, weighed down by all the toppings. The carnitas were the typical quality, but again, the asada was oversalted and the meat was grainy. Definitely made from the same batch as the nachos. I'd give 1 star for the experience, but the restaurant did give me the requested quantities of salsa this time, and also limes on the side. Also, I have not eaten the asada torta yet, which I plan to have for lunch today, so we'll see. Side note, randomly was delivered with a horchata, which I love, but hardly order with my meals here. That was a nice bonus, but after my meal it felt more like a consolation prize lol. read more

Went on a break with my fellow coworkers here and us five just about packed the quaint traditional Mexican restaurant. First thing you notice is the boom of the soccer game playing on the small, corner television set as well as the various photographs and pottery that adorn the walls. Dark wood accents surround the area as well that just provide a very light-hearted experience. Not too cold in here despite the opening and closing of the two entrances, I actually took my jacket prior to eating possibly from the warmth my meal provided. I ordered a vegetarian enchilada that took about a small talk's worth of time to get to the table. Plastic cutlery and a basic presentation on an oval, durable plastic plate. Not too much oil over the food which was a plus and the enchilada, refried beans, and spanish rice. Nothing spectacular about the food, it was exactly as I expected, and you can taste how it was prepared on the spot. The tortillas were soft, with a touch of moistness perhaps from condensation, and the vegetables inside (hints of jalapeño take up the bulk) were quite meek. But, I still finished the plate content for the next couple hours. The price point is $9.99 for the meal I chose which makes you question where you should eat as similar price points surround the downtown Pasadena area. It's really up to you if you find the price point worth it. Do you enjoy supporting mom-and-pop's for an average meal? Do you like a fast prepared lunch? I didn't mind. Ten dollars is just about pocket change when you're supporting a business operation like that, especially when they aren't taking advantage of you. read more
