I've been to this location several times in the past year so i finally decided to review it. Let me start by making it clear that these are some bomb a** tacos. The crossroads is my absolutely favorite; the beef brisket is insane and has little crispy bits in it. Baja shrimp is another great choice, relatively lighter than some of the others. The fried avocado is another must try even if you are not a vegetarian. They get a good crunch on the avocado and it is surprisingly filling for a veggie option. Their breakfast tacos are solid, migas is really good and has crunchy chips mixed in. Whatever you get make sure to try the diablo sauce. It's bright orange and has a ton of flavor for a pretty spicy sauce. So why 3 stars and ive raved about the food? They are a little on the pricier side compared to some other taco places. The servers are super nice but service can be veryyyyy slowww. This is not a great go to when you are in a rush or starving. read more

Torchy's is wonderful. Everything we have tried on each of our visits has been outstanding. Service is great; I really appreciate that they can delete the cilantro from my order! I would note, however, that ordering Torchy's through DoorDash was a complete disaster. And DD customer service less than helpful. Took three times as long to deliver as promised. Dasher tried to blame it on Torchy's, but according to app, he wasn't even at Torchy's until long after the order was to be delivered to me. Of course the food was cold. But our hotel had a microwave. Thank goodness! Go to them. You'll be glad you did. read more

It took forever to get 3 tacos & queso (for take-out). We waited for 20 minutes. Hence the 3 stars. I highly recommend ordering online so you don't waste time sitting around. If you do end up sitting around, go grab some free water at the soda fountain. I have to admit that half of our order was totally worth waiting for. The Democrat (on a flour tortilla) was SO FREAKIN' GOOD. Juicy, flavorful, generous. Also, the queso was FANTASTIC. Just the right amount of spice and infused with avocado and other goodies. I also tried the Fried Avocado and Baja Shrimp tacos (on corn tortillas). They were just alright, I'd probably skip them next time. I thought that the fried avocado was a bit lacking in flavor while the breading kept falling off the fried shrimp (which was rather succulent, to be fair). Not bad -- just inferior compared to the yummy Democrat taco. Come to think of it -- making the Democrat taco taste superior -- do we have a conspiracy at play here?! I'll try the Republican and report back. Also, the sauces they give you are delicious so even if your taco is lacking flavor, the sauces will make up for it! I like that they let you sub the corn tortillas with wheat. Also, I appreciate that they have little stickers that easily mark your taco selections. The service was really friendly. Here on recommendation from a friend. My friend is local. Definitely a go-to spot for tacos. Here's what I ended up getting. The food I ended up getting was as follow Number one half order of chips and guacamole: guacamole was good but they did put cilantro in it, via weed!, Despite me telling them not to. The chips were excellent. The order was actually quite big and I had to throw out the chips wah wah Number two pork taco : excellent Number three chicken taco :excellent You order at the counter and then they bring you your food after your buzzer rings. I thought that the food was pretty good but I didn't like the price. They serve each taco individually and so it ends up being quite expensive. I didn't try any of their drinks. Counter service was good no issues parking lots a little bit tight but I had no problems. If I was in the area I definitely come back to one of their locations. read more

I was recently in Houston and my mouth was watering for Torchys since I originally got some in Austin. I originally planned on ordering on DoorDash but due to covid 19 there was a limited menu which didn't include my personal favorite taco. So, we decided to brave the outside world and go to Torchys. At first we saw someone taking orders outside with the same limited menu. I was disappointed but I decided to make the best of it. 10 minutes later we had just been standing there while everyone walked past us without even acknowledging our presence....when we realized we could possibly go inside. Normally after being treated that way I would just leave an establishment and never come back but I just really wanted my brushfire tacos. They took the tipsy chick tacos off of the menu which was very disappointing. I ordered my brushfire tacos and went to fix my drink. I love their prickly pear drink so I was excited to get some. However, when I pressed for it to come out only water was coming out with a slight pink shade so I had to settle for something else. The hillbilly queso and brushfire tacos were great as per usual but the service at this location made me decide not to use this one anymore :( read more

These are especially made for the booji, too-goods that won't go to a taco truck but still think Torchy's is authentic Hispanic foods. These tacos were disgusting. I drove out of my way 15 minutes to get to torchy's I had a five dollar off card I walked up to the register told the employee that I would like a hillbilly queso To Go and that I had the five dollar card he immediately walked away and came back with a manager the manager said "how can I help you" I said well I was telling him that I would like a large hillbilly queso To Go and that I had this five dollar card. The lady manager was very condescending and with weird smirk said we no longer take those cards to which I said OK "how was I supposed to know that"? She then said with a very awkward smirk on her face that she wasn't saying that I didn't know but that but now I do know because she is telling me. I work at a nice steakhouse and her customer service was very bizarre and unprofessional she was not apologetic in any kind of way And gave no explanation as to why the card that I had they no longer took. It was so awkward like she was so proud of herself to be able to tell me she wasn't going to accept the card. I wont be going back. read more

If you're in Texas, this place is a must. It has INCREDIBLE options. As a vegetarian, I'm somewhat limited for taco places to try out because a lot of the popular restaurants are popular because of their meat options. Torchys, however, has multiple options suitable to my diet and even more so, it has my favorite taco of all time - the fried avacado taco. I would recommend the Fried Avacado to literally anyone. It's the perfect blend of cheese, spice, and texture and its surprisingly filling. This review would not be complete if I didn't mention the queso here. Maybe I'm just not a fan of Tex-Mex, but this place was just okay to me. My cousins enjoyed it though, so that's why I'm rating this a 4 out of 5. We ordered The Democrat, Baja Shrimp, and Baja Fish right before closing for pick-up, and the tacos felt like an elevated Taco Bell. There were a variety of flavor punches within the tacos, and the sauces helped add another depth to the taste. TLDR: Come here for relatively solid Texan tacos with good flavor (not Mexican street tacos or anything particularly mind blowing). The green chile queso is tasty and worth a try! Did a "taco crawl" with friends and Torchy's was our first stop. Their meats are well seasoned, queso isn't gooey but still delicious and packed with flavor, and the salsas were well made! I was expecting less, but turns out Torchy's is a great solid option, and the patio is a nice bonus - easy and chill. The flavors aren't aren't as wild/fun as Velvet, and not as authentic as Tacos Tierra Caliente, but I would be happy to come again. read more

Never been to Torchys but came highly recommended by numerous people. Of the four total tacos, two were the Trailer Park (make it trashy aka covered in queso), a Democrat, and Pork with green chili's. The Democrat wasn't as delightful as the others - but it's hard to live up to fried chicken smothered in queso so it may have been a bit of an unfair advantage. Can't go to Texas without making a stop at Torchy's Tacos! I had my first experience and Austin and every time I'm in Texas I yelp to see the nearest location to where I'm staying. Best item to get is the queso and chip, don't forget the guacamole either! You won't regret it! My favorite tacos are the following: - Baja shrimp tacos (hold the chipotle sauce) - the Alabama (fried catfish) I've had the fried chicken and ahi, which were okay. Always quick to help and always amazing service. I usually dine in and she keeps the place spotless. I have an amazing experience every time she is there. After seeing the mix reviews, I didn't have very high expectations. Even with regular expectations, this was delicious! For my visit, I ordered the Baja shrimp and Brush fire. Both were excellent and complimented their respected salsas really well. Normally, I don't really like anything breaded in my taco but it was fine by me to have breaded shrimp. The chicken in the Brushfire was seasoned really well. I ordered a side of the rice and it was not basic indeed. The rice had bits of corn and cilantro which accentuated the flavors of the Mexican rice. Adding in a frozen margarita, this definitely satisfied the cravings for a California girl. read more

Again, no milk or cream for the coffee. After I stopped my weekly habit of having breakfast there due to sludge masquerading as coffee, napkin holders crammed so tight you couldn't get one out, dirt on the floor after they had just opened, and a constant lack of cream, I decided to give them another chance and went last week. I saw a lot of improvement and what appeared to be a renewed interest in better customer service. Today, not so much. And I never receive any acknowledgement of my patronage as I'm leaving. I guess they're so successful they don't have to care anymore because apparently people come anyway regardless of the quality of the service. Update 6/2/23: After submitting the above review, I received a call from Chris, the manager. He sympathized with all my comments (even agreeing the coffee was awful!) and vowed to take action on my complaints. I returned for breakfast a couple of days ago and, true to his word, things were much better. The person who waited on me was more personable and there was cream for the much-improved coffee. Chris was there and we had a very positive conversation. So, in my eyes Torchy's has redeemed itself. I look forward to the changes remaining in place when I return next week. read more

Torchy's is always a good choice when you want some tasty tacos! We also got some queso, which I forgot to take a picture of before we devoured it. The restaurant was empty when were there on a Wednesday night, but there were a lot of to go orders. I want to give a special shout out to the servers and the woman working the register. Everyone was super pleasant and friendly! Overall the ambiance is a typical torchy's, nothing partially good or bad. The parking on the other hand, can be a little bit of a headache, especially when the restaurant is busy. Which is the only reason I gave the restaurant a 4, everything else was 5 stars! read more

Freshest lettuces and herbs, yummy pistachio crunch, mexican corn, cotija cheese, spicy and tangy but not crazy, and topped with salmon it just can't be beat! The most mediocre taco ever! Look everybody, we live in Houston, Texas. You can't drive one block without finding a place that sells tacos, so the competition is pretty fierce here.
