Coworkers created a happy hour and I was more than ready to try out a new restaurant and a margarita! Pulled up and there was a lot of parking, which was great! There's also a dog park nearby so I loved being able to watch all the cute dogs while I ate. You order inside and they bring your food to the table. I used to like this place more, we came a lot when they first opened. But as of March, the menu has changed, they got rid of my fave taco. But the worst part? They made the flour tortillas way smaller, like street taco sized. So that they can short you on meat and still charge you $5.50 per taco?! Took my family from out of town and they absolutely loved it! It was my first time too, and everything was delicious. You order at the counter and they bring the food right to your table. My favorite was the chicken -- you can get it whole or half, and it comes with corn or flour tortillas, rice, and beans. So flavorful and perfectly cooked. Most days I'll cross the street and grab a green smoothie and acai bowl, but today...I'd neglected my taco craving long enough (how very unTexan of me) and decided to give them a try. It was refreshing to see a fast casual spot enveloped in so many little personal details to decommercialize the space. In addition to the customization, from the toilet paper to the patio fans to the available hi-chairs for the little ones, they master the details even offering unisex restrooms with bag and jacket hooks, and a patio with dog bowls and treats. I was able to grab 2 tacos, a small queso, and a water for about $17, $20 with tip. They offer a relatively robust menu of tacos in fresh flour or corn tortillas in a few diff preparation styles. I tried the al carbón tacos in steak and chicken. Both meats were grilled perfectly, tender, and moist. Don't know what they use to marinate their meat, but it definitely stands out in citrus...and cumin? As many have stated they offer a DIY salsa bar with limes. As far as the queso, creamy with a kick, it satisfied my queso craving. I will say that on my trip someone refused to leave the bathroom and literally threw a fit when asked to but that's not really their fault. Overall, pretty solid experience. The first time I came, I had the Arroz con Pollo - fire. That's what made me really look at the menu and notice they sell half a chicken with two sides for just $18. Total steal. When I came back, we ordered the half chicken, and it easily fed two people. The meat was juicy, seasoned perfectly, and the tortillas (both corn and flour) were so good - reminds me of the fresh ones from H-E-B. The salsa bar is honestly my favorite part. Getting to try all the different salsas feels like a mini adventure - every one hits differently. And that shrimp quesadilla? Insane. Greasy, messy, but worth every bite. You know, I love this place! It's so close to our apartment in Houston, we can walk to it. Anyway, Sunday night, we had to get our dinner and were disappointed that they ran out of the chicken al carbon dinner for two! We had to settle for their tacos, which were good but, in my opinion, overpriced for what you get. We ate inside and there were a few diners like us. The dining area is so pleasant and well lighted. Anyway, Monday night, we got the whole chicken al carbon dinner pack. Now, that's a deal! For $40, you can have 2 dinners out of it. That's exactly what we did. We used to eat at Bosscat Kitchen one night of the week, but they don't serve the public for dinner anymore but still available for private parties. Back to the chicken from Little Rey, it's delicious, and had a great smoky flavor. The side dishes, the cilantro rice and the beans were perfect compliment to the chicken. While I rave about the food, they actually forgot to give us the chips and salsa that should have come with the dinner. We did not discover that it was missing until we got to our apartment. We were hungry so we did not go back to the place to claim what they forgot to put in the order. We should have checked but, you know, they should have somebody to check the order before giving it to the customer at the pick-up window. That's on them, not us. I came here first when my co-worker introduced it to us in 2024 and we decided to come as a team to try out the food. I'm a fan of mexican food and the restaurant looked very new! Everything was super nice and clean for lunch and we came on a semi- cloudy day right when they just opened so it wasn't busy for lunch but when we were leaving people started coming in. They're counter service so you order when you come in and then find a table. What I love is that they have a similar concept to Chacos with a salsa bar where you can get whatever salsas to try with your tacos! I love sampling everything they have and getting extra limes because I feel like there are never enough limes given in an order. Service was quick and efficient! There was always someone coming by to see how we're doing and to pick up any empty plates for us as well. Ok, first of all, I need to file a formal complaint against the Tex-Mex community for gatekeeping this food from me. What even was this? Mexican? Persian? Norwegian?? Who cares. Chicken? Phenomenal. I respect that. But let's talk about the margs. So I slurped one down at 11 AM sharp, expecting to be tipsy, flirty, and making questionable decisions on mi hombre by noon. Instead, I got a slight buzz and a sugar rush. Shoulda. Coulda. Been. Blasted. The vibes were right, the intention was there, but the execution? Weak. If I'm drinking tequila before lunch, I expect to be flabbergasted and borderline quadriplegic. (Metaphorically, of course.) Anyway, back to the chicken. I've been wanting to stop by Little Rey since I saw that it opened. It's an incredibly cute building in a great location. It's indoor/outdoor, so if the weather is cooperating, you can sit on the patio with your pup. I dined in about three weeks ago on a Thursday evening around 6:30pm. The restaurant is counter service which is convenient for the type of restaurant it is in that you can leave once you are done dining in. Given the menu is easy to navigate, I didn't take too long to order. I ordered the chips and salsa with the March featured taco of the month: a collaboration with Truth BBQ which featured smoked beef cheek taco with a pasilla Oaxaca sauce. I must say, the tacos are WELL portioned, and you can leave well satisfied with two. It is a little pricey given each taco was about $6-7, but worth it given the flavors that are jam packed into that large taco. Salsa and chips were $3.50 with a nice array of a salsa bar to choose from, and you are given a hefty portion of chips. The jalapeño ranch sauce was by far my favorite, but none were extremely spicy like I was wanting, unfortunately. All in all, it took about 10 minutes for my meal to be served in a timely manner. We got way more queso than was necessary to share, but I got the pollo Al carbon taco which was nice and NOT dry and I'm forgetting the other now. I love a good salsa selection with multiple heat levels so that was a win for me. Taquitos were good. The spicy torta was good too- just a tad dry for me. Had an excellent family breakfast this morning. It was so nice to be able to sit on the large patio and enjoy the beautiful weather. There were seven of us and everyone enjoyed their food and the coffee was good too. This is a self-service cafe but food is brought to table after ordering at counter. Server Juan is so nice an attentive, checked on us several times and readily brought out to-go boxes for our leftovers. The tacos are well filled so we over ordered y a bit. The Oaxaca taco, mostly peppers and cheese 4 mini mushrooms so small I didn't even know there was mushrooms in it. Besides the lack of flavor in pretty much everything, the space itself is nice. Large, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. No refillable fountain drinks besides water. There's a sauce station. Food comes out quick. But that's just quick to be disappointed.
