I visited this location on November 10, 2018 and had a wonderful dining experience and an even more wonderful post-experience. If you've never been to a Torchy's before, you're missing out. This location is special though because it has a cozy atmosphere with a very attentive staff and fast service. The food is incredible; I have no idea how they make their food taste so much better than any Tex-Mex I've ever had but they do. I had the Wrangler and the Trailer Park and both were so delicious (Wrangler is my #1 fav though). I cannot say enough good things about this location... but it gets better! I actually left behind a pullover during my visit that I've had for years and traveled all around the world with. Sadly, I do not live in Austin and when I called the restaurant the next day after realizing I had left it behind I anticipated the worst. I never imagined the store would be interested in shipping me my pullover, but without any hesitation their General Manager, Travis, offered to do so right away. He wouldn't even let me cover the shipping costs; he said he would take care of it! Wow! Sure enough, a week or two later the pullover arrived in the mail along with some great free Torchy's swag. Never been disappointed eating at Torchy's Tacos every time. I always get their Fried Avocado Taco and their delicious Queso Dip with fresh made-to-order Tortilla chips!! When you add their signature sauces on top of your tacos, the entire meal is amazing. The fried avocado has this crunchy exterior yet not too hard to bite in to it and the soft ripen avocado on the inside, yum. The lettuce, tomato, and the cheese along with the sauces were really delicious altogether. It's pretty limited when it come to having vegetarian options but that is expected coming from this place. For a small taco, it costs me almost $4, and the Queso Dip is extra few dollars - not a place for me to go every so often but when I DO come, it's worth it for me. This is a great taco stand. It is open and airy with a nice little side patio. The service was super friendly. and it was quick. Then there are the tacos. That is what a taco stand is all about. Their tacos are great. Ace of Spades - This is not on the menu. It is a kitchen sink taco that is so large it takes two tortillas. It has beef, It has beans. It has great sauce, It has cheese. It has sausage. Oh, and just in case that is not enough, it has an egg. It all comes together as one great taco. Democrat - This is a shredded beef taco with green sauce and avocado. I always forget this location exists.It's kind of off the beaten path and you have to be going there, there isn't much in this area otherwise besides a few stores. The parking here can be a bit of a pain, the store itself only has a handful of spots out front and the other ones around it are reserved for the day care. There are a few other ones if you go further out. The line for inside and the drive thru tend to get a bit crazy though. There is limited seating inside as well. There are more options outside, if you can handle the outside weather. The consistency is hit or miss. I've had it where my order is incorrect or is amazing. But I love the queso so I just can't stay away. read more

I would normally never write a review after eating only one taco somewhere, but my friend had recommended Torchy's and I was so looking forward to trying here and was not disappointed! I ordered the brushfire, which comes with Jamaican jerk chicken and mango, and it was absolutely delicious! I honestly didn't expect much from jerk chicken at a drive through taco place, but boy, did they prove me wrong! The mango was also fresh and not overpowering--not sure where they sourced their mango from, but kudos to them. Their taco selection is fun and interesting, which is much to their credit in the era of "take a regular taco and ass avocado and call it something different." The flavors were really great on the one with the portobello but I got one with fish in an asian style and the fillings were really not that great for the cost. When in Austin, tacos are a must. And Torchy's has some big hefty tacos. I get more than stuffed after eating just 2 of them. As a vegetarian, I can only comment on a few. I really like the Fried Avocado and the Independent. I can't eat them without making a mess just because of their size and everything in them. But they sure are delicious and you do get your money's worth. I'd also recommend the Lil' Nookies for an indulgent treat. They're basically deep fried chocolate chip cookie balls. The first time I got them there was a ton of powdered sugar, which can be quite messy. The second time, they hardly had any powdered sugar (as shown in the photo). I'm not really sure what happened there but either way I still enjoyed them. I wouldn't recommend using the drive-thru - in my opinion, the long wait to order and get your food feels much worse sitting in a running car than inside the restaurant. But I guess it makes you that much more ravenous to devour your tacos. read more

The problem was it the cashier entered wrong taco name. We went in, waited in line and Manager John assisted us and was very helpful to rectify situation. As I'm writing this, I'm with my family sitting in our truck, waiting in a very long line for the drive thru at the Torchy's spicewood springs location. It's been about 20 minutes and we haven't even paid yet. Let me tell you, these tacos are so damn good that we sit with a smile. And what's more is this: my incredibly picky 4 year old DEVOURS these tacos - granted, only the beef taco with nothing on it at all, but still! I'm not even joking when I say that the reason we are in this line right now is because my son finished his taco that we had delivered and said he wanted more. To every tourist, Torchy's is something of a pilgrimage for a trip to Austin. I'm here to correct those tourist: Not necessarily! Does it satisfy my cravings for something greasy and fried? Heck yeah. My go-to order here is a fried baja shrimp taco on a flour tortilla with that gross chipotle ranch sauce, a side of half chips and guac, and a coke. Belated review from one week ago today when we went here for our daughter's birthday dinner (her request). We've both been to this location a couple times since it's right by her daycare, but for some reason have never written a review for this place. First, safety: All the tables inside appeared closed, which is fine since we feel safer outside, but on days when it's 100+ degrees out, we appreciate establishments that make an effort for patio comfort. Not here. There were a couple fans whirring about one revolution a minute and seemed just to be pushing hot air around. That's it. Also, when we were inside ordering there was some A-hole guy blaring on his phone with his mask off and then proceeded to keep it off as he got his drink. Staff did jack about this. Service: not good. the woman at the register was neither helpful nor friendly. They got our one beer order wrong and instead of being cool and comping it on the house, they took it back inside and had to change our bill. Hmmm....REALLY WONDER what you guys are going to do with that open beer! Also there are no frozen margaritas here WTF. Food: decent, we have to say. We got our daughter's favorites: the queso and guac, and they hit the spot as always. Their beans here suck and aren't the refried black ones that you get at other locations. Chicken fajita taco: meh; trailer park hillbilly style was excellent. Even though the food was mostly OK, we're settling on two stars because just remembering their crappy service and unsafe handling of maskless jerks is still pissing us off a week later. I was really hoping the remodeling would speed up this location. Alas, it did not. I wasted 25 minutes today stuck in the drive through, with no apology or acknowledgement of how long it took. It's not like they had a long line. I was next in line to order when I arrived. There were only 4 cars ahead of me. The problem with this location's drive through is that there's no escape. Once someone is behind you, you're stuck no matter how long it takes. My advice is to (a) avoid the drive through, (b) order ahead online, then (c) pick up inside. read more

We love torchys, I mean who doesn't. My negative rating is to reflect the lack of care around gluten and allergies in general. In 20+ orders, they have literally never gotten it right. A typical order for us is a fresh avocado on corn (from their gluten free menu) or a Baja shrimp (grilled shrimp) on corn. Never once have I not had to go back inside the store. It's always reflected correctly on the receipt, but the kitchen just seems to see the title and ignore the large red letters on there that day gluten free,.or grilled versus fried.. I hate given a negative star rating, but no amount of pleading or explaining seems to avoid the need for us to meticulously go through the order when it's delivered and always, always have to go back inside and have them remake. Would be absolutely awesome if they could fix their process and I would immediately fix my review (which I've now moved from 5 stars in the beginning, one star at a time to one star). But once they get it right, (and I'm pretty hungry by that point!), The tacos are great! read more

This location was easy to get to from the Pennybacker/360 Bridge. The parking lot behind the restaurant is shared with a daycare I think. The place is designed like a fast food joint, complete with a drive through. You'll order at the register and eagerly await your tacos. This location isn't particularly crowded, so everything comes out pretty quick. I ordered The Democrat and The Trailer Park. Both were great, but The Democrat stood out more to me. They have a pretty innovative menu already, so I'd have to try more to figure out my favorite. I'm lactose-intolerant, but I hear that the queso is a must try. read more

Torchy's is a taste that's grown on me over the years. My Torchy's tip is to review the menu online before visiting. The ordering section shows you how truly customizable Torchy's is. As far as food goes, this Torchy's is spot on. My half order of chips and salsa was a great start while waiting for my dinner. Trust me, a single custom breakfast taco is more than enough to satisfy the average appetite, especially along with chips and salsa. Service is also friendly and quick here, just like most Torchy's. There are two minor quibbles with this location, though. First, it's plenty warm in here. Not just the salsa, but the air conditioning needs a tune-up and some more usage. Also, the drink area often runs low and gets messy. In particular, this location needs to remember to restock the lemons and limes for the tea or tacos. But overall, it's still one of the two best options for a quick bite in Northwest Hills. read more

There are a lot of Torchy's throughout Austin. I went to the locations on Spicewood Road and the University of Texas. In my first visit, I went to the Torchy's on Spicewood for breakfast. Although they do not officially have a breakfast burrito, the cashier advised me to get an avocado and eggs burrito. In effect, it was a breakfast burrito. The avocado was smooth and the eggs were scrambled but slightly runny. They complemented each other perfectly. The salsa had a great kick to it. The beans and rice were excellent. The tortilla wrap was sizzling hot and amazing. From my perspective as a tourist in Austin, it was the best burrito I ever had. When I visited the location at UT, the additional experience provided me a full perspective of Torchy's. Unlike my first time, I also got meat in my tacos and burrito: ahi tuna and chicken. I tried the tuna with low expectations. It was seasoned decently but the tuna was nothing special. The chicken was a little better but definitely not great. In hindsight, it makes sense because premium meat would significantly increase the price of the items. Torchy's was excellent but still just a chain with affordable prices. Nevertheless, the avocado, beans, and tortilla wrap were awesome. Anything with them in it will be delicious. Any meat without them and standing alone will be closer to average. The tacos are very unique here, it was super hard to narrow the choices down for my selection and I ended up getting 3... The Democrat, The Trailer Park (I got it "trashy"),and Crossroads. The Foodie in me ate my way through Austin as best as I could. I'd been hearing about breakfast tacos and seeing a cookbook or two about them so my interest was peeked! Decided to invest a breakfast at Torchy's. didn't know what to expect so I was a little surprised when I arrived that it was sort of like a "fast food joint" with a drive through. I supposed I was expecting a "food truck", not quite a grounded building. But, that's just architecture and not of foodie consequence. Even though the location was standalone the action inside was definitely food truck action. I was pleasantly surprised to see a little patio and bar area for single eaters. I ordered two tacos, The Monk and The Wrangler. Ok, I'm fan! I love tacos. I love eggs. I love breakfast. And now, I love breakfast tacos that eggs in them. OMG, this was SO good. I think I could have even eaten a third taco but then I'd probably have to run to my next destination to burn it off. Haha! Serious fresh food! I consider myself a queso connoisseur and I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I found the best queso out of a (now) restaurant chain, but it is the simple truth. You can't go to Torchy's and not get the queso. Sorry, I don't make the rules! My go-to taco is the Mr. Orange. It was cooked to perfection (as always) and was incredibly filling. It's an injustice that I haven't left a review for Torchys yet! I'm torn between the battle in which I want Torchys Tacos to stay absolutely 100% the way it is. On the other hand I want it in Vegas ASAP and I'm afraid they'll change it to spice it up "Vegas Style". Haha! This is my third Torchy's I've gone too. Thought I'd miss the church & hungover crowd at 1:30 not so much. This is a smaller one kinda hidden from the road. Next to the fire station if you happen to go by to fast. Got the matador (secret menu) and democrat with half order of chips & queso. Plenty of seating outside most of its in the shade. Today it was windy so I'm sure it was cooler. The drive thru was def busy. I decided to go in and get it to go. They will call your number and you will have to go get it at the counter vs them bringing it to you. This one seems to have a lot of parking out back. Nice area pretty quiet too. read more
