The view is amazing. It's almost like you're in another city once you're seated. The food was decent. The service on the other hand is terrible!!! This was my first time at Topside and i'm sorry to say...It was my last. A male bartender( older, white with a beard) was so mean and rude to my friend and I. He disregarded us the entire time, didn't serve us water, added two extra drinks to our tab, and waited 15 minutes or so to remove the drinks from our bill. I kindly asked him to remove the drinks twice... His response: Nothing...then he finally put up his finger as a gesture for me to wait until he was done doing whatever he was doing, then he aggressively tossed his glass he was drinking out of into the sink and walked over to us with a smirk. Everyone else at the bar was attended to with respect except my friend and I who were the only African Americans at the bar. My friend and I went on a Friday after work roughly around 6 p.m. it wasn't too crowded, energy was great, and music selection was as well. Topside is Baltimore's best hidden date night spot and for your local photo enthusiast. The view of the monument is absolutely incredible and love the overall classy but hipster vibe that you get here. Service is very friendly and not at all pretentious (huge plus in my books for such a classy venue) and love that there's couches, a foosball table, and a classy bar all under one roof to really balance the place out. Food was okay - the mussels were pretty over cooked and rubbery and very shriveled up and small so it didn't feel like we got a good value for the dish. Also, many of the shells came cracked and there were multiple times in the night where we accidentally bit into a fragment of a broken shell (thank god we didn't break a tooth!!) The korean bbq pulled pork sandwich was very delicious and flavorful though the bread was a bit tough (and not toasted enough) and the fries that accompanied it was very soggy and bland. The fried cauliflower also seemed a bit too bland for my taste and definitely needed a bit more seasoning and salt. The dessert (pineapple upside down cake) however was freaking delicious : it had dulce de Leche, roasted marshmallow and a big fat chunk of cake, and vanilla ice cream to tie it all together - probably the best thing we had all night (I practically licked it clean)! Overall, I felt like the food was more of a miss than a hit - and very bland / did not fit my palette but very nicely presented and aesthetically pleasing. Overall -- the view was what made our experience worth it. It was so beautiful to see the lights on the monument glimmer in the night and also loved the overall atmosphere of the place (the first place in Baltimore that isn't horrendously loud, where you can actually have a conversation at a normal noise level) and doesn't have a pretentious feel to it. Food was little to be desired and a bit pricey for what you get, but will definitely give topside another shot with other food items since a lot of the appetizers and entrees on their menu sounded delicious. read more

It is amazing just how bad the food was. I was with a party of 5, so we had a good variety of dishes, all but one was really bad. The crab pasta and the buffalo wings were extremely salty. They were barely edible. The pasta was $23, I believe the wings were $16, however, the portions were very small. The chips that came with the guacamole were not good, very bland. The guacamole was fresh, but again, bland. I definitely would not go here again. It was a waste of money. read more

I was in Baltimore for a conference. My first night I went to Topside because it was very conveniently located on the top floor of the Revival Hotel and was accommodated right away. I was alone but I was seated at a table for 4 close to the entrance which I didn't really care for. The views of the skyline were beautiful! I ordered a specialty cocktail that set aside a portion of the proceeds to breast cancer. The drink didn't come for 20 minutes. That is not an exaggeration because I was texting my husband at the time and looked back to the time stamp when I ordered and compared it to when it actually came. The drink was a pretty color, but had no visible garnish until I finished it and saw it at the bottom of the glass and was just ok tasting. It cost $15 and was $1 more expensive then the usual cocktails. I'm assuming because $1 for every drink went to the cancer research. I presume they still wanted to make their usual income on the drink and just upcharged a buck to go towards a good cause. Ordered the fried cauliflower for my entree. It was prettily decorated with edible flowers but was oily tasting. My used fork and knife were taken with my entree and I assumed a new set of silverware would be given with my dessert. I was wrong. I ordered my dessert and it came sans fork. I saw where the wrapped silverware was stored and just got up and got a new set myself. When I asked for check I received it without a pen. Was I supposed to write in blood? Luckily I had a pen in my purse. Overall experience was very expensive and underwhelming. Wouldn't recommend. read more

They had a wonderful selection of drinks from local brews to local mead and my personal favorite cocktail named "how to lose a guy in ten days". The food has been fantastic every time but since my group and I weren't feeling like commiting to a single entree we ordered every "small plate/app" except the hummus and it was exceptional. The tikki massala cauliflower was rich and the wings were amazing (especially white BBQ- YUM!). The crab dip, penne pasta and spicy shrimp& brussel sprouts all dissapeared within minutes, but we were more than sufficiently full with 6 of us sharing the plates. I guess that's what one gets in a 200$ a nite hotel: crappy food that no one dares complain about until you have to pull over on the way home so your elderly mother can void herself on the side of the highway. That cauliflower was the best Ever! my friend is an easy eater but he agreed with me that this place is for the views and the hook ups or meet up or whatever it is called but definitely not for food! Not sure if that's the theme, if it is I sure don't wish to eat in a dog bowl hahaha I had rabbit entree....never had rabbit so I'm not sure how it's supposed to taste but it was extremely bland. I asked for cranberry juice, pineapple juice and coconut rum for my cocktail. they didn't have cranberry juice so they asked if Orange juice is fine....sure! Absolutely magnificent views of Baltimore from here. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try though not just for the spectacular views of the city but also for its unique food creations. My husband and I had dinner here a couple weeks ago and the sunset view backdrop combined with the delicious food dishes we ordered made Topside the perfect setting to enjoy a Saturday evening. The standout dishes for me were the fried oysters and halibut ceviche! So flavorful. If you're in the mood to try something new, the rockfish risotto is also another good dish to try! read more

This is a great location for upscale cocktails and meals. I have been here on several occasions - a couple of times just for beers/cocktails and once to have a full meal with a friend visiting out of town. First of all - their choice of cocktail types, liquors, and beers are good, but a bit whee limited for a place of that environment quality. There is however a good selection of boilers - combinations of beers and liquor shots, that are selected to form a nice pairing. Besides the baristas would be glad to make any special cocktails you might want. Food - wise, it's expensive but good. Every night, the establishment BBQs an entire pig and sells off the pieces throughout the evening, making this place a great spot for BBQ-lovers and meat-lovers alike. For those with more of a preference for sea-dishes, their mussels were great when we were there; although beware - the dishes do rotate. Now, comes the best part of the experience - the view. It's by far the best view over Baltimore I have seen so far; it offers an amazing view in almost all of the directions and dominates the entire city; making it a perfect spot to watch a sunset or the lights of the city at night. The food here was great and we had no problem getting a table for 8 for Sunday brunch. However, the service was terrible. There were very few people here so our waiter must have had to find creative ways to make himself scarce. I had to snag the water pitcher off the buser stand to water our table and we were mostly out of coffee the whole meal. But probably worst of all, they have a $15 bottomless mimosa deal that turned out to be mainly a scam because every time I tried to order a new one it took a half hour to come. Every time I come back I like this place less and less. I will likely not go back unless showing a friend around and then would only go when it wouldn't be crowded. It seems like there are never enough bar tenders and maybe because of the rush or the chaos they come off as unprofessional. The last time I went my fiancé ordered a drink. We waited for 10+ minutes and the bartender said "do me a solid and see if you like this drink," handing him a drink he clearly made one extra of. It was fine but not what he ordered. Time went by and we asked for the bill. We never received the drink we ordered and we're even more surprised to see that we were still charged for it. The whole situation was strange so we paid and left rather than dealing with the back and forth and waiting to get his attention. No other bar can compete with the views (except for myth and moonshine) but this bar would not be able to stay afloat in any other space in the city. read more

In my opinion, this is THE rooftop bar in Baltimore. The main bar space is absolutely gorgeous with mid-century modern vibes and a perfect view of the Washington Monument. Then you can head into the side room which is filled with gorgeous plants and, of course, more views. The cocktails shine here, though the beer and wine lists don't slouch either. Really, ask the bartender for a recommendation and go with it. The team is well-versed on every drink and will guide you to find the perfect libation for your palette. The food menu doesn't have a ton of choices, but the choices they do offer are top notch. I loved the cauliflower and the oysters. Every experience I've had at Topside has been excellent. Went for brunch and left disappointed. Service was ok but just. I ordered the chorizo chilaquiles and it not like any chilaquiles I had ever had. It had no salsa drenched chips, basically just a row of chorizo which was good but underwhelming. When I asked the waitress of it was supposed to have chips she said yes and proceeded to fetch a bowl of what tasted like crushed pork rinds. While they did as a texture to what was otherwise a plate of greasy sausage, it certainly didn't constitute chilaquiles. Additionally a friend ordered the $12 tomate and stone fruit tartine which was a single slice of Non-toasted bread with slices of underripe peaches and flavorless tomatoes. They too where unimpressed. I have been to top side several times for drinks and happy hour and have always liked it. This was the first time for brunch and will likely be my last. My husband and I came to topside on a on Halloween night for the night brunch. This is the second time I've been although my first experience was during the day. Everything about the ambience of this restaurant is so cute. It really provides a great vibe for a date night or a night out with your girlfriends. I got the burger and he got the seafood scramble which were both so delicious. The only complaint I have about the burger is that there was too much sauce on it which made it pretty difficult to keep together and eat in one piece. His seafood scramble was very flavorful and filling. For drinks I had the peacemaker and he had the mimosa. Topside is actually the place where I discovered that Mezcal was one of my favorite drinks so to finally get back there and have another one was nostalgic and everything I needed. Gorgeous views. Trash service. My friends and I were celebrating a graduation in early May. After doing some research, we decided to go to Topside on Sunday, May 18th around 5:30 pm. We were seated at one of the hightop tables. It was a pretty dead afternoon. We noticed several waiters were just standing around. Earlier in the day, we made a reservation for a 1:45 pm brunch reservation. The host informed us that we had to leave at 2:30 pm. 45 minutes to eat? WTF? She was cold, barely apologetic and lacked the personality that you would expect for a person, who is the first one to greet customers. We ended up in Fells Point for brunch. I don't know why we even bothered to come back 4 hours later. I think someone mentioned that the cocktails were good. We'll never know as we never got the opportunity to eat or drink at Topside because of the poor and disrespectful service: 1. Bartender (White and bearded) - After 10 minutes he walks over to us, slams the menu on the table and says "when you're ready to order, you can do that at the bar." He then walks away. Nobody was sitting at the bar so it's not like he had to rush. No greeting, no hi or hello. 2. Server - We approached one of the servers about servicing our table but she gave us tons of attitude, claiming that we were seated in the bar area. There were about 10-15 people dining. The entire restaurant was not busy. We later caught her gossiping about us to the host. 3. Host - She approached us to ask if we were eating or just getting drinks. She claimed that we were in the bar area. My friend told her that she has been there before and received service at the hightop tables. Also the hightop table across from us had a server. These three interactions with the staff convinced us never to return to this venue again. Their IG worthy decor and views are all a facade for the most underwhelming service I've received in Baltimore. Growing up in the city, it's a shame to me that today's restaurants have lost that local charm and warm hospitality. Spend your coin at other establishments in Baltimore. Because it's not worth it at Topside. My friends and I love going to Twist in Fells for brunch. It's BYOB and good for large parties. The food is also yummy! read more

We just heard about and explored this place a few weekends ago. It's a cute, modern bar on the top floor of a Mt. Vernon Hotel. There's an extensive drink list and gorgeous views of the city and of Mt. Vernon on all sides. Pro-tip, take your drink out of the main room where the bar is and sit inside their plant room down the hall. Same great views, but you get to hangout in a wonderfully decorated, plant filled room! One of the more unique drinking/hangout spaces around Baltimore. Only reason I didn't give it a five star is because it isn't a lot to choose from on the menu far as food but the drinks are good. I would definitely recommend this place. We went to dinner before a symphony show and we were so happy with our choice!! The cozy restaurant has a very nice ambiance and sits at the rooftop level of a hotel so you get very nice views of the city. The menu is pretty small, but everything we had was amazing! We had mussels to start, then between all of us ordered the striped bass, hanger steak, Korean bbq sandwich, burger, and fish sandwich and all of us were please with our choices...I can't say that happens too often! Oh I just love topside! The vibe is one of the best in Baltimore overlooking the Mount Vernon neighborhood if feels trendy and fun. The standup bar area is amazing lots of different extremes and some of the best Mojito's I've had. There are a bunch of boardgames that (pre-Covid) were amazing to play with friends great for large groups. If you do want to eat dinner here as opposed to drinks and appetizers make sure you get a reservation the table by the window are gorgeous and would highly recommend as well. read more

I loved my experience at Topside. I took one of my good girlfriends here for her bday and we had a great time. They were very accommodating. I called the day before hand and asked if I could drop off some things to surprise her and they easily said yes. By the time we got there, the balloons, gift bag and flowers were set up near a window that, in my opinion, had the best view of the city. The drinks were great, the food was good and our bartender even bought us a bday round lol. We had an amazing time and I can't wait to visit again this summer. Just as an FYI, it's a bit pricey. There's no happy hour. But I think for the views, the quality ingredients, the well crafted drinks, and the attentive staff, it's worth it. Also, the building in general was beautifully decorated. The decor and care that went into creating a cool spot for people who live here, as well as hotel guests to hang out is apparent. Love the way the bar is set up and can't forget about those views of Mount Vernon, you can't see it this way without climbing up the billion stairs in the Monument itself.
