I had 2 big trees in my yard that had to be removed. I called Top Tree out and they gave me a very reasonable quote and said they could even come out the next day to do the job. They came out on scheduled day, punctual, on time and ready to work. I had a lot of garden figures and pots in my yard and they were kind enough to help me relocate all of it to a safe location and even took extra steps to protect my koi pond with plywood. In the past, other tree guys would just cover it with a tarp. 5 men showed up and within 6 hours took down both trees and grinded the stump. After finishing they did a decent job of cleaning up. Very friendly, worked fast and very reasonable rates. My job was very small -- remove tree trunk (4 ft high and 1 ft dia) and roots but too difficult for me to remove using hand tools. The after the trunk was cut down to the root, a grinder was used to remove the root down about 12 inches below the ground level. He also ground out adjacent roots near the surface. Then the area was cleaned up. All evidence of the tree was gone. read more

I had a couple of guys come over to provide quotes from other businesses to trim the palm trees in our complex, and I had already decided to go with one of them. George from Top Unit was the third and last guy to come out, and I ended up giving the job to him, based on his character. He's a big Tongan guy, and he's charismatic. It's also a family-owned business that he runs with his brother David, who's also a great guy. There is one crew member who's just kind of present and doesn't do a whole lot, but I suspect this is a family member or friend that they take care of. So this is what I mean by character; they do take care of each other. And they'll take care of you too. Our condo complex had four queen palms and three king palms that hadn't been groomed in years. The queens looked bushy, and the driveway and lawn were littered with seeds. "Give me one chance," George said, "and you'll see. We won't just clean them up. We'll make them beautiful." They did. David maneuvered around in the bucket truck wielding a chainsaw like a pro, and a couple of workers cleaned up and disposed of the waste below. The palm trees are so much cleaner looking now, and the ground is free of their seeds. You feel better looking at them now, just like you feel better looking at yourself after a haircut. David explained the maintenance schedule (grooming once or twice a year), pointed out problem areas from the palms (and some bee hives he saw in our roofs), and proposed a solution down the road before leaving. After they left, the first thing I did was set a reminder to contact Top Unit again next year. Totally recommended without any reservation. read more
