Great hole in the wall. Small parking lot in this strip mall right out front which is incredibly helpful. The interior is small as well but there were a couple tables open for dinner. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! Really liked the lady in the front taking orders. Had the spam musubi, mini loco moco plate, BBQ chicken and chicken katsu plate. All was delicious! Great option for takeout that's flavorful and easy. Food is ready within about 15 minutes. Our favorites include the fried chicken, Indonesian fried rice, and Katsu plate. There isn't a seating area, but there are a few seats if you want to wait. It's Boba Time is at the corner so you can go there to grab a beverage while waiting. While most of the reviews are true, the prices are very reasonable and the quantity is awesome, the quality on the other hand was lacking on the night I went. I say on the night I went because I know restaurants or cooks can have off days. I ordered the combo which comes with chicken, beef, and short ribs. Sadly the food tasted burnt. I did get a lot though as other have stated. Therefore, I give this a 2. The macaroni salad. Maybe I'm spoiled by macaroni salad while I was in Hawaii, but I was hoping for some good mac salad. I even ordered an extra side of it to go. But this was a major disappointment. I think they put diced onion in it so the texture was a bit weird. The flavor was lacking as well. Overall, I give this a 2 star too. BUT...I will say the spam masubi was the best part. I give that a 4. It was on point. They have a 2fer deal if you get 2 spam masubi's it's $5 but 1 is $3 fyi. This was a small take-out only place. My son just looked up "Takeout Pasadena" and this came up. It's in a small strip mall. Man it was busy! They told me it would take 20-25 minutes because they were so busy, but it took maybe about 15. It is a really small "mom and pop" type restaurant. Very friendly people, only two people doing all of the cooking. They were very apologetic to everyone for the wait. The food was great. We walked in on a Thursday evening and there was a lot of people in the restaurant and when you know, you know. This is a ma & pop store in the neck of Pasadena. Coincidentally enough, it's right next to my salon and I had no idea! Food was spectacular here and believe the hype when everyone is ordering the Indonesian fried rice, there's a reason why!! It wasn't bland at all and it definitely has some real Indonesian flavors in it. I ordered the bbq mix hawaiian plate and ate the rest for breakfast the next morning because it is pretty big. Also got a side of spam musubi which was delicious and a side of macaroni salad because it looked really good as well haha. I was in the area with my mom and wanted to try some good Hawaiian bbq. Found this place on yelp. Me and my mom shared a bbq beef plate. We came here and tried the Indo fried rice, oxtail soup, and that crispy fried chicken that's getting all the rage. Honestly, the food for me is OK. It's tasty but not as superb as stated by some of the reviews here. I really enjoyed the service - the owner was super nice and attentive. The restaurant itself is a small, family owned business. The food is great. I highly recommend the Indonesian fried rice. What I found interesting is that the fried rice isn't just rice, there are small bits of noodles in it as well. The rice has chicken as well as a fried egg on top. There is a lot of flavor packed into this dish! I also recommend the spam masubi and chicken katsu masubi, I would come again just for these. Pricing is very cheap, I spent around less than 15$ for a meal for two people. Called and ordered the family meal today. Friendly, easy phone service. This is still the best fsmily meal deal in the area. For $35 + tax there's enough meat to feed 6 average adults. BBQ chicken, teriyaki chix, rice, green salad instead of macaroni. At home we roasted veggies, added tomatoes and avocado to the salad, and served the Tops family meal. Perfect, complete, satisfying. During these Covid19 times, this restaurant has the safest pickup service I've seen. Think other restaurants should set themselves up like Tops. Recommended to this spot by my brother a few years ago and it did not disappoint! Located in a small mini-mall, it's a bit easy to miss but definitely worth checking out. I absolutely love their spam musubi, a good amount of spam fried to perfection and for a great price. I could eat a few of them and be totally satisfied. I've also gotten their BBQ chicken and kalua pork combo and it's awesome. Chicken has tons of flavor and the kalua pork has the right amount of smokiness and acidity. Their mac salad on the side pairs well with the saltiness of the meat. I haven't tried too much else but they have a ton of choices - both Indonesian and Hawaiian. Service is great, family-owned. The owner is always very friendly and I could tell they take necessary safety precautions during COVID. Definitely recommend! read more

Top Restaurant is the go-to restaurant when my husband and I can't think of what to do for dinner. We typically call in our order for pickup and the owner always knows it's us when we call and when we pick up. She is literally the sweetest and greets you like you're family. We've tried a number of things here and they're all good. The katsu, crispy fried chicken and the Indonesian fried rice are our top 3 items to get. The musubis are also pretty good as is the loco moco. I can go on and on. Their macaroni salad tends to be too onion-y for my taste, so I usually skip that. This Sunday afternoon I walked to Greenstreet Restaurant to eat in their patio area. I was out of luck the place was packed. Walking back to my condo I remembered that I had always wanted to try the food at Top Restaurant. When I returned to my condo complex I jumped into my vehicle I proceeded to drive to Top Restaurant. Being that this was my first time trying the food here I decided on the BBQ Mix. This comes with BBQ chicken, BBQ beef and BBQ Korea ribs. The food is made to order so I had to wait about 20 minutes. After returning to my condo with my food I placed it on the table and opened up the container. Looked beautiful and smelled great. It also came with two small scopes of rice and macaroni salad. All three meats were extremely tender. I started with the chicken. I used the plastic fork & knife that came with my food. The knife just went through the chicken with ease. Like butter I tell you! Next I bit into the Korea rib. The meat was pull apart tender as was the BBQ beef. I enjoyed all three meats equally. They pack a lot of meat into there containers. All three meats were not too sweet and not too salty and had a nice teriyaki flavor. They even include some sweet teriyaki sauce for dipping. I had this place bookmarked on Yelp for well over 3 years and I don't know why I did not try this place sooner. I look forward to many return visits. read more

The only thing I'd order again, I loved the chicken katsu musubi with a crunchy fried crust that contrasted the other soft ingredients. The Spam with egg musubi was better than the typically plain musubi but still too boring. One musubi is very large. Two of them completely filled a burger-sized take-out container. Ox tail soup was not available so we tried the kalua pork. The pork didn't have the vegetal flavors from being wrapped in banana leaves but had smokiness that had a fake processed taste. Mixed with cabbage, the meat wasn't salty or naturally juicy. The pork was a better match with the accompanying macaroni salad than the two scoops of rice. Even though it has been four months since governor Gavin Newsom lifted Covid restrictions to reopen the state, Top is take-out only - no indoor or outdoor dining. The Kalua pork and spam musubi were great and tasted very similar to what we had in Hawaii. We ordered the BBQ beef because of the many pictures that made it look so delicious. We were completely wrong. The BBQ beef was indeed great looking in person, but was fatty and made of low quality meat. So go for the pork and avoid the beef! read more

This was an attempt to find a good Hawaiian food spot not too far from home, but it failed. My wife ordered Shrimp Fried Rice and received Spam Fried Rice. My wife doesn't eat spam, so that item was a total loss and ended up in the trash. I hate when restaurants can't get your order right. It's their job to check the receipt for what I order, then check the boxed items to verify they are correct before placing the items in a plastic bag and tying a knot. I Ordered chicken katsu curry and the chicken katsu was good but the curry was not very tasty. Lastly, my friend ordered BBQ chicken & beef. Ok. They have this dish called "crispy fried chicken," They are not kidding. I ordered some for takeout and it had to be the crispiest chicken I ever put in my mouth. This is my favorite restaurant in Pasadena, and maybe even Los Angeles. I was a regular here when I went to college, and now every time I come back I make sure to visit. Here's what I like about Top: 1. The food is great. Some of the best Hawaiian/Indonesian food I've ever had. 2. The menu has a lot of variety. 3. It's very affordable. The prices are pretty cheap, and you get a lot of food. I often have leftovers which I can eat as a full meal the next day. 4. The service is fast. 5. The owner is really friendly. She recognized me after ~1-2 years even though I had my mask on! Here are my three go-to orders. There are lots of other great dishes, but I especially love these: 1. Rice Noodle Combination. I love how thin and flavorful the noodles are. It comes with chicken, beef, shrimp, and vegetables, which are also great. It's a great deal too--I've never finished it in one sitting. 2. Oseng-Oseng Beef. Beef and cabbage in a slightly spicy sauce over rice. It's simple, but really flavorful. 3. Chicken Katsu Curry.
