During the pandemic, we all have been trying to adapt to the quarantine life. That being said, I'm from Tulare County and all the nail salons are closed and I desperately needed a pedicure due to my ingrown toenails! My boyfriend and I were heading to Pismo for my annual birthday beach trip and I looked at nail salons in the San Luis Obispo County area since the lockdown rules weren't AS strict as Tulare County. If a nail salon can operate outside safely, they can continue "business as usual". Cut to calling around the Pismo, Grover, and Avila beach area and I came across Top Nails! Not only were they open, had great reviews, BUT they were operating outside! The employees wore a mask, the customers must wear a mask. We are seated 6 ft apart with plastic dividers between the customers and the employees. After each customer leaves, they take the time to sterilize their station before the next customer sits down. It IS by appointment only and allowing 4 people or less at a time. Overall, I was VERY pleased with the deluxe pedicure I got. The staff are very nice and quick without sacrificing quality. My pedicure was very relaxing even though it was outside. They are kinda tucked away in a strip mall type of place so you didn't get heavy foot traffic with people walking by staring at you. Amidst the scare of COVID-19, I felt very safe here! I will definitely come back and drive allll the way from Visalia to Grover to get my pedicures if this pandemic doesn't let up soon. The $40 Deluxe Pedicure has all the basics of a standard spa pedicure but they added the paraffin wax, callous removal, salt (or maybe it was a sugar scrub) while they massaged your feet and calves. Can't forget the hot towels and HOT STONE MASSAGE! Ahh my favorite part! I explained it to my boyfriend like this "After I get a pedicure, it feels like my feet can BREATHE again!" My manicure however did not turn out well. I got a gel manicure. The employee seemed distracted and appeared like she just wanted to get the job done and move on. She went super fast doing my fingers and the gel is bubbly, missed spots, and uneven. She even cut my nails way to short and they are uneven. I asked for them to be square rounded and they are more round even after i asked she again to make them square rounded. THEN, my pedicurist cut the skin on my big toe and I was bleeding for the entire pedicure!!! Although I don't get my nails done here or at all, this is my go to place for getting my waxing done. It never fails me. I always leave satisfied. I recommend calling first and get an appointment because sometimes they're busy but some days they're not and you can come in right away. Their prices I think is affordable compare to other franchise or privately own establishments but then again I'm a regular customer here so I never go anywhere else. Im never going there again i always get my nails done by the older guy there. He has always been rough and ended up with burns from the file. But this last time he did something ive never seen him do before he placed acrylic acid and then the nail glue on the nail and put it on i fealt a burn... i should of said something but my dum ass didnt. This place is right down the street from me so I go there often and everything has been great until this last time. I went and got a facial wax and Brazilian and a leg wax and a pedicure for my birthday. Unfortunately, the owner instead of doing it herself like she usually does and does a wonderful job had another employee do all these services for me this time. It was an absolute nightmare. Took twice as long and she had no idea what she was doing with the waxing and that decision lost them a very good customer. She left hair on my legs and started using tweezers instead of the wax on my Brazilian. She was clearly not trained to do waxing or even a correct pedicure. The pedicure maybe lasted for two days and when I go there it usually lasts three weeks when the guy there does it. I did not get the value for my money and I had to pay for all those services in spite of that and I will never be back again to have to go through that experience, Nothing wrong with the woman who did it she was nice actually but highly untrained. read more

First day off in weeks ... made an appt for manicure .. I arrive on time ..the owners wife meets me at the door and immediately shoved hand sanitizer in my face ... no greeting , not even a quick hello . I tell her I have appt , she motions for me to sit at the first table . She begins the manicure process and I asked .. do I need to pick a color first ? Pretty much how it's usually done . She begins berating me to her husband in her native language... do I understand it, obviously not, but what was Blatantly obvious was the nastiness in her demeanor as tone . Pretty universally understood! The client seated next to me told me I must have said something to upset her and just shook her head . This woman then gives me ice cold , clear water to soak my hands in ....hmm... supposed to be at least lukewarm and sudsy . Then after another minute of her rattling again . She abruptly stops , walks over , grabs the basket of fake nails, drops them in my lap and tells me to " pick a color" . Then she leaves ! I do not see her again until near the end of my manicure , when she comes to " Greet" another client - same attitude . I will not be back. Went in for a pedi yesterday , for the first time in a few years. It was nice to be back. More pedi chairs now and I was really happy with the relaxing pedi that included hot wax treatment . There was nice attention to detail . My only complaint is the football playing on the large screen tv- nail salon clientele are women ! Today was my fourth time coming and the third time Amy did my nails and I can say with no doubt that this nail salon is not only wallet friendly, but the 2 ladies who work here give a very meticulous manicure and pedicure and everything is always clean. My favorite is Amy, by far. Im very particular about my nails and one thing that really upsets me, is going for a manicure leaving the salon feeling that I need to go home and do it all over again by myself.
