Let me start out by saying I was on vacation in Pismo when I decided to get my nails done. My toe nails were getting long and my fingernails were snagging on everything. I walked in and asked if they had time for a mani - pedi, "oh yes... pick your color". I then decided as I was sitting in the chair for my feet that I would just go ahead and ask if I could get a full set on my nails. Why not? I'm on vacation. When i mentioned my change in plans I was told there was only 1 person that could do a full set. And she was booked for the next 2 hours. Maybe I could come back in 2-3 hours or tomorrow? Uh. N O ... This was disappointing. So now I sit in the chair knowing I'm only going to get half of what I really want. I'm a tad annoyed, but try to enjoy my pedicure. My big toe has a tip and acrylic on it as I wear boots for work and the nail was halfway through the process of growing back from falling off. I asked the tech if she could file it and fill it and she chose to do what she wanted to do, file it and paint it. There was no fill. What the....?? Anyways, my nails are now drying and in comes 4 more people. More pedicures and more waiting. 45 minutes later I'm still sitting there apparently waiting for my nails to dry and nothing being done to my fingernails as there aren't any additional techs to do it. Finally I apologize for interrupting my neighbor's services and tell the tech I am done sitting there and express that surely my nails are more than dry. I get up, pay for my services and am asked if I have cash.... No. I don't carry cash, most people don't carry cash and a lot of places outside of nail salons don't want cash. Oh and by the way, i'm tipping on the card. Just ring me up so I can leave. This event that was supposed to be relaxing has turned out to be more of an annoyance than anything. I was not fully satisfied with my service and I don't think I'll go to this establishment again. Needless to say, I went to Rite Aid next door and bought a nail file, nail clippers, fingernail polish and did my own damn nails. With that said, I will give myself 5 stars for keeping my cool, rolling with what cards I have been dealt and possibly saving myself $50. read more

I'm a fulltime RVer, living in a motorhome traveling the country. Getting my nails done is always a challenge. I rely on YELP to help me out. Today I went to 5 Star Nails. If I could give them 7 stars I would! Very clean place, nicely decorated, plenty of employees on. I called in the morning for an appointment. My previous place , in another town 3 hrs south, had done just a mediocre job in my nails and they were starting to lift. I went in today, and got them done and they look fabulous! I always have a great experience at 5 Star nails. They can be quite busy, but still make it a point to have great customer service and a relaxing atmosphere. I usually only get gel manicures from them, but they turn out flawless every time and stay looking great for a while! I would suggest making an appointment ahead of time as they are usually pretty busy and whenever I'm there turn away walk ins. All in all I'm satisfied every time I go here and love the results! read more

Went into the salon to ask if they were appointment only. They said no, "we should be able to accommodate you right now. What do you need? " I responded that I wanted a pedicure and two polishing for two little girls." They shook their heads as soon as I said polish for two little girls and said that they were booked for the day. It was 11:45 on a Wednesday and you had 3 people in a pedicure chair. Don't go here if you have kids, they will turn you away. read more

This review is solely for the customer service I received today (not the quality of their work). This morning I called and asked if Nina was working. I was told that she was and an appointment was booked for me for the afternoon. When I showed up for my appointment, a woman came out and nonchalantly informed me that Nina was not working today. Confused, I mentioned that I spoke with someone this morning and they specifically told me she was working. The lady confirmed that she was aware of this but that Nina was not going to be in today. No apology was offered whatsoever. There was about 4 hours between the time I called in and the time of the appointment. I would have greatly appreciated a courtesy call to let me know that my appointment was no longer possible. This salon showed clear disregard for my time so I am not inclined to return again. read more

I came to Five Star Nails because I was in the area and saw that this place was highly recommended on yelp. I got a mani and pedi, which cost me $40 dollars (not including tip), the price was good but the results after two days were horrific. The overall experience was average, there wasn't anything that really made the experience memorable. I'm just very disappointed with how my nails turned out after I left the shop... I was told that I can leave because my nails were "dry" (but the main reason was because the lady who did my nails had another client in line and I was taking up the chair). I was really happy with them initially because I like the shaped of my nails but results on the paint was not good. The white nail polish is chipping and looks like there cracks through the white polish. read more

If I had to give a negative one star I would. I have come here many times to get my nails done and they are very rude and they do not care for their customers. I recently got my acrylic nails removed here and they said they were running low on time even though I booked an appointment prior to coming and they VERY PAINFULLY removed my acrylics without soaking or using a drill. Instead he used a thick piece of paper to remove each acrylic which was extremely painful and which also ripped apart my natural nail. On top of that they did not cut the sharp edges of my nails they created or even dusted them off. Five star nails should be renamed to 1 star nails.TERRIBLE read more

Five Star Nails offers a variety of nail services at competitive rates (see photo gallery) to their competition's. I came here a month ago for a mani/pedi and was really pleased with the experience. They started me in one of their pedicure chairs where I had a foot massage and warm bath. It's really hard for me to find a manicurist who gives gentle foot massages, because my feet are super sensitive and ticklish, that 9/10 times my feet massages are really uncomfortable. But, the manicurist was skilled and gave the best, relaxing foot massage. Next, I walked to one of their manicure tables and had another great manicurist who gently cleaned my nails before painting them. I especially appreciated the staff's patience to wait for my nails to dry well enough before leaving. I find that many other salon staff will just give a few minutes before they begin rushing me out so that another customer can sit. read more

This place is in my neighborhood so of course I stop by to get my nails done but every time I do they say they have no time no matter what time of day. I saw maybe 4/5 customers only in there. Not sure why they turn business away 3 times for me but I won't bother any longer. Poor business practices when they are suppose to accept walk-ins. I have struggled to find a great manicurist ever since relocating to the Central Coast. I get dip/powder fingernails and it's hard to find shops around here that do them, let alone do them well. Then, a couple months ago (upon recommendation from my aunt, who I should have listened to all along), I finally gave Five Star Nails a try! The shop is super clean and family owned/run. They have been in that location for years and years, and do a fantastic job. Karen is a doll...she does great work, has a sweet manner about her, is funny as heck, and I really look forward to my appointments with her. The manicurist gave me what seemed to be a nice manicure, including a design that I requested with several crystals. Unfortunately, the crystals began to fall off within a few days and within three days the polish was chipping off. Very disappointing. In my experience it is best to affix the crystals to the topcoat. This is the technique used by experienced nail artists. Instead, she glued the crystals and then placed the topcoat over. read more

I went in to get a gel pedicure (which I get them all the time). A lady asked how she could help me and when I told her what I wanted, she said she doesn't do gel pedicures. Giving 3 stars since they don't offer them. I have never gone to a place that doesn't. It seems very strange to me, as they had gel nail polishes for manicures. I only do gel on my toes because they last soooo much longer. Maybe that is why they don't do them, so you will spend more money on polish changes. read more

This place is ok. I used to come here alllll the time. Nina is a FANTASTIC manicurist! When I complimented her on her expertise she said that she just does other peoples nails how she would want her nails done which I thought was sweet. She pays close attention to detail. I wouldn't recommend anyone else at this joint, although I'm sure most are decent as well. When Nina wasn't available I had other people do my nails and a couple of times I ended up very disappointed. I can be picky about nails. The reason I stopped coming here is because I called one afternoon while I was in Avila and Asked if they could fit me in. It was towards the end of the day but she said if I came over right away they could get me in. I re-iterated the fact that I was in Avila but I'd come right over. I walked to my car and drove right over just as I said. Max 18 minutes later I showed up and the person who started doing my nails was noticeably annoyed because it was late. I explained that I just called and they told me to come over but her energy was still making me uncomfortable so I asked her if she'd like me to leave and she said yes!!!!!!! So I did....
