Surprisingly good Italian food in the mall! So the food is good, if not standard Italian fair: pasta, pizza and salads primarily. They elevate their game by cooking their pizza in a coal fired oven, and producing gelato with an authentic gelato machine from Italy! Oddly enough, they have a New York style pizza, with a floppy crust that causes the topping to slide around. These things almost allow me to forgive the fact that they don't salt the water for their pasta....almost. I'd stick with the pizzas and salads, personally. Protip: Sangria is heavily discounted on Sundays, so drink up before hitting the movie theatre! The restaurant itself is much smaller than you'd expect, and given Lakeway's penchant for using the mall as a babysitter, Tony C's is heavily staffed and patronized by teens. Here's what happened, rather what didn't happen. Went to Tony C's for the first time. Got seated and ordered one 12" pizza and a glass of water. Waited, waited waited waited for almost 50 minutes. The waiter came around a couple of times stating my pizza will be right out. I really don't think he even checked to see when my pizza will be out. After 50 minutes of waiting and still no PIZZA, I finally got up and left. Talked to manager who apologized and stated well they have a lot of to go orders. To which I remarked, the couple sitting next to us came 15'mins after us and and had already received their food 10 mins prior to my getting up. Mama mia that was good! Our visit was this was Friday night. The place was packed and yes we had a bit of a wait less than 20 minutes. I recommend sitting upstairs-less noisy. Our to go order was mixed up and delayed even more. I didn't realize it until I got home Saturday night. Not wanting to go back, I returned Sunday afternoon to speak with the manager. He was very accommodating and we came to an agreement to me the 'to go order' even for the mix up the night before. I get a restaurant can have a mix up and an off night. Tony C's catered our wedding in August 2019. We are still reveling in the amazement of their service. To Carrie and her fabulous chefs and servers, a gigantic Thank You! Every point of service that you would hope for and expect as a customer, Tony C's delivered on and then some. They were super friendly, all smiles, and almost blended into the party. Everybody who was a part of their team is extremely professional and hard working. They went above and beyond any and all expectations. The food quality was not lost due to quantity and the delicious taste that they deliver at their restaurants is still perfectly captured within their catering. Omg. Great pizza. We came here for our anniversary and we weren't disappointed. This is some of the best pizza I've ever had. We ordered a large pepperoni. Let me start by saying first that the crust was excellent. It is fire grilled at a thousand degrees. Had that great chew that great pizza has. Thin but not too thin. The sauce had great flavor. Kinda tangy. It was just yummy. And they put just the perfect amount on it. You could tell the cheese was of good quality. And the pepperonis we're done perfectly. They got the crispy edges that are so yummy. I also ordered a Caesar salad which was really really good. The Dressing had a really great flavor, it was a balanced flavor of garlic and herbs. As happy hours go, the general scuttlebutt is spot on: buried within the polished enclave of the Hill Country Galleria is an honest to goodness chill corner hangout, and if you were wondering, teeter in here some night when the game's on and the chatter tends toward familiar. It's not rocket science what they're doing, but it's definitely something. I had occasion to wander up in this direction a couple of weeks ago with no real expectations other than we knew we were in the neighborhood and that some sweetness and good cheer was in order. A little tiramisu, wine, and tall brews later, I couldn't have been more expectant of good cheer. And while I didn't exactly wind my way into the night on the string of a tale, I did notice the friendly thread of conversation. And there are days when that seems just about right. read more

Its pretty horrid for american pizza and pasta. The sauce for both the spaghetti and the pizza tasted like it was from a can. The dough on the pizza was over worked - over cooked and tough as nails. The pasta Primavera was just quickly sautéed vegetable with low grade olive oil over underdone and rather bland noodles. There was NO seasoning NO taste and the vegetable were UNDER done. Got a restaurant.com gift certificate for this place...and made the trek out to bee caves for dinner last weekend. I really really liked the decor and the food was delicious. We tried the calamari, I had a house salad, and we had a pepperoni pizza. Everything was really tasty. I'm not sure I liked it more than Home Slice, but they have totally different "feels". Home Slice is like...fun, hangout type of place, but Tony C's was very nice....decorated like a fancy restaurant. Tony C's has corrected the soggy crust problem on take out pizzas. Now they offer the olive on the side for take out. I love pizza and the best way to enjoy a good pizza is hot from the oven. Tony C's makes one of the best pies in Austin in my opinion. The crust is super thin and flaky with a great coal fired taste. We went overboard with the "create your own" and ended up with a very expensive yet spectacular and delicious pizza. Our pizza creation ended up being 31.00 for a large split between 3 girls but it was enough to fill us all up with ALL our topping choices. We never decided on a specific name for our pizza but we loved it: thin crust and marinara topped with roasted garlic, caramelized onions, mushrooms, fried eggplant, artichoke hearts and fresh mozzarella. The house salad was loaded with yummy veggies like roasted red peppers and good fresh cheese crumbles. The dressing tasted house made, although I didn't ask. I heard good things about this place, but honestly, I was very underwhelmed. Granted, I used to live in Italy so I am very picky about my pizza. We had the Bianco pizza with "cream, olive oil, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, roasted garlic, and fresh basil." When the pizza showed up (after a very long wait) it had these massive balls of what seemed to be mozzarella; much to my disappointment, it was ricotta. Don't get me wrong, I love all cheese, but really, ricotta need not be served in such quantities. The manager Carrie was working and in between running food and helping bus tables I feel she went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect for us. First of all, I hesitate to ever say something negative about anything or anyone. We try to give the benefit of doubt in every situation. But this review is due. My experience has brought me to creating our first new Yelp account and posting a review for the first time ever. We have been a customer of Tony C's, Bee Cave location in the Hill Country Galleria, since they opened well over 10 years ago. We have hung in there with the ups and downs of different management and food quality inconsistencies. We really loved Tony C's, but we've finally had enough of the poor quality and indifference of management and staff. I'd give this visit a zero if it were an option, not because i'm an extremist, but because this last visit truly deserved a zero...zero effort...zero concern...zero quality. Over the few months, we have noticed that the amount of ingredients on our pizzas and other menu items has been shrinking. Mostly, the amount of pepperonis and the amount of cheese on our pizzas has been steadily decreasing. This can only be due to a lack of attention by the maker (which is happening more and more lately), or worse, a calculated serving size decrease per ingredient by management and staff to save money on ingredient costs. Either way, it's sad to see the decline of overall quality at this location. This is not a one time experience, but we have noticed a steady, consistent decline in food quality. Yesterday on 11/29/20, I gave Tony C's another chance, we ordered a simple pepperoni pizza. When the waiter brought the order (the waiter was very good, but seemingly scared to take action in the end), I was disappointed for the LAST time. There were huge areas of pizza with absolutely no cheese, and the pepperonis were so few and sparse it was crazy, noticeably less than in the past, and NOT the same pizza Tony C's is known for. I held up the pizza and literally picked up big pieces of dough throughout, without any cheese covering the sauce. This has steadily been the case on visits throughout this year, a steady decline in ingredient amount. I showed the waiter the large areas of dough and sauce with no cheese or 'sprinkles of tiny pieces of cheese' and small amount of pepperonis on the pizza. There was no willingness to correct, but said they would tell management. I felt like my complaint was not going to change anything, and we didn't get an apology from the waiter or manager. We left with the majority of the dough still on the tray. We made out about a two good slices from the whole pizza, and left disappointed and determined this was the very last time we will spend our time and money here. We really like the taste of this pizza, but are unwilling to give it another try. Too much disappointment, money spent, and time wasted here. There are other pizza restaurants in the area and in austin that we will seek out that have a fabulous reputation for high quality food, staff, and management. If you want to try this restaurant, please, please, please, explain to your waiter/waitress you want them to tell the pizza maker to not skimp on ingredients, pepperoni, cheese, and other ingredients in making your pizza. If all goes well, in the end it should be good. But be aware of this growing problem. Me and my family have had it...quality too inconsistent to keep going here for pizza, salad, fettuccine alfredo, etc. Those are other reviews that I will not spend my time on. Went here last night because the guys on sports talk radio talked up the calamari here and my husband was dying to try it because he knows I love calamari. I haven't found very much good calamari in Austin. The calamari is EXCELLENT! They give you a nice balance of rings and tentacles. I love the tentacles and most places in Austin won't serve them to you. MMmmmmm. Fried with a light batter so you can taste their seafoody, chewy goodness. Squeeze of lemon on top, a little salt, done. I have no idea why they serve marinara sauce with it. Then we had a special appetizer - figs wrapped in bacon, then drizzled with balsamic and olive oil with a little pile of fresh undressed arugula. Perfect balance of sweet, salty, bitter. LOVED it, especially paired with their well-priced Malbec. We could have eaten three plates of these. Then we had a gorgonzola fussilli pasta with some chicken. It was only ok. Good gorgonzola taste, but the dish was dry and the chicken was misplaced. This dish would have been better with a little diced pear and some pine nuts - something to balance it. It did not need any protein in it. It was just a little too heavy-tasting. Then we had a goat cheese and prosciutto pizza. The crust was amazing. Very thin and crispy and flavorful. The flavors of the pizza were good, too, but it is not a sauced pizza - just the cheese, garlic and ham, so it was a bit dry. Next time, I'd like to try a pizza with sauce and cheese. great pizza though. The service was super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very casual - we felt comfy in shorts and flip-flops. The holder for the pizza is not stable because the pan with the ultra hot pizza can slide right off hitting the table and people sitting at the table and, in turn, the pizza can burn someone which is (in part) what happened to us - the pizza was no longer scalding hot. Additionally, the pizza was not cut well enough (still attached in places at the crust end) and it was swimming in grease to the point the entire topping slid off when my toddler tried to eat it. The coal fired aspect left bits of black on you which is similar to what you get on your fingers when touching a candle wick. Also, a peek back there showed jets of fire where the pizza is cooked. The calamari came out quick but was average if not below. The garlic knots took forever and they later admitted they forgot about our order. The Lasagna Rotelle WAS HORRIBLE. The first time we went my husband and I tried the prosciutto and goat cheese pizza - the crust was thin and crispy and overall the pizza was tasty. But the highlight of the visit? A seriously fantastic wine list, with out-of-the-ordinary choices. As a wine-lover, I found several things I wanted to come back and try. The lowlight? Our totally stoned waiter who missed several opportunities to bring me more of that delicious wine. Second visit - I took my bestie and we were starved, so we had the bacon wrapped figs and stuffed mushrooms, both of which were fantastic. Our waiter on this visit was very professional and helpful, a nice change from my previous visit. But this time the prosciutto pizza came out dry and blah. No worries - we'd filled up on appetizers and we were totally grooving to our wine. Slightly weird moment when the manager came by and when we mentioned the wine list, she gushed about how it was all her creation... which felt weird. Tony C's could very well be the best pizza in Austin. I know. You're reading this and thinking I'm crazy, but the fact is the pizza is amazingly good. The slices are large and thin, like a typical new york-style, but it's slightly different than defacto pizza champ Homeslice. Expect more of a crunchy, well done bake at Tony C's with a chewier crust. The cheese isn't quite as flavorful as I've had elsewhere, but still tastes very good. Toppings, including the sausage (which, according to the waitress, is made onsite), were excellent as well. Most importantly, though, it passed my wife's New York pizza test. Being that she's a native of the state, her standards are very high. And of the places in Austin she feels like that make the best slice, only Tony C's, Yahgi's, and Homeslice have passed. Now for all the good points, I'd be lying if I said the restaurant is perfect, because it's not. For starters, it's a bit too noisy inside and a little too hot on the second floor (probably from the massive oven). Also, as you may have gathered by now, it's in a shopping mall. Of course, the parking situation at Homeslice may be equally as bad, so advantage push. Overall, four stars for Tony C's. I love the happy hour at Tony C's! Half-price appetizers, drinks, and slice of the day from 3-7, plus an awesome patio to watch the people/sunset. The bar opens up onto the outdoor patio, so the place has a nice indoor/outdoor feel. I had a glass each of the house red and white wines, and for three dollars I was very happy. The bruscetta is my absolute favorite. Crispy, buttery, garlicky crostini alongside a mild goat cheese spread and perfect grape tomato halves with plenty of garlic and olives. The pizza is so so good. They have the coolest little walk-up window that faces the street so you can just grab a slice and go. I love the crispy but tender crust, and the cheese is perfect and melty. They use really fresh basil in everything, so I will be trying some of their pizzas featuring basil in the near future. This place is tons of fun, and sitting at the outdoor bar on a summer evening with friends at Happy Hour is the way to go at Tony C's. read more

The pizza by the slice is good, but so far inconsistent. The first time I ordered two slices and the pepperoni one was excellent, but the other (veggie) was just so so. This last time we tried our slices seated at the bar, along with the Italian chopped salad. The pepperoni slice was again excellent, and the specialty slice (with Italian sausage and large slices of tomato) of the day was, eh, just good. The pizza is New York styled, but not huge slices, and has a nice slightly charred crust. Slices are $3.50 each for most. The chopped salad was really good: romaine lettuce, black olives, cherry tomatoes, peppercinis, onion, and lumps of Italian meats and mozzarella cheese. Although at bargain prices, I recommended tasting the house wine first before ordering a glass. You may find it's worth it to "up spend" a few bucks.
