After moving back in town from Dallas I was excited to see that a Tomlinson's opened up in Allandale!!! I was also VERY excited to see that this location also has self-grooming available. The self-grooming rooms (2) are well equipped with shampoo, towels , blow dryer and various combs. I was equally impressed with the super clean and easy to access tub which is at the right height so one is not bending or hovering over their pet. In addition, there is a no-slip pad also below so your pooch does not "slip and slide" around. In addition, there are "doggie treats" available so your pooch can easily munch away while you clean them up. I cannot say enough great things about Tomlinson's customer service, pet food and treat options and pet supplies. This is a wonderful added bonus that will keep me a Tomlinson's regular! read more

I went here to see what the store was about. I have heard good things but just recently converted from the chain pet stores. I've gotten raw dog food from Phydeaux & Friends and this place has way more locations than they do! I pulled up in the parking lot. The outside seemed very Texas themed. I went inside and it was very small compared to the chain stores but they had very good stuff. They were even having a good sale on the raw dog food that my pup eats. stella and chewy's was 25% off! The guy behind the counter was very nice and talked to me about certain brands. I got to meet the store dog who was big and sweet. They let me come behind the counter to pet the dog! So cute. anyway. It's right near my job and they're awesome folks. I will be back! read more

I used to shop at PetsMart. It was close and they had the Blue Buffalo that I was feeding my picky cat at the time. We have since changed his dry food due to our other cat and I've become a bit more picky about what is in their wet food. This is how I discovered Tomlinson's. I began buying the Merrik canned cat food and this location was the closest place that sold it. They have a HUGE selection, not only of the Merrik, but of others as well! The staff is super nice and will listen to you gush about your pet (I have a bad habit of doing this). They are also very knowledgeable about their products and can help you pick out the perfect food, toy, or anything you need for your pet. I love this place. It's an old feed store that reminds me of home and doesn't make me feel like they're more worried about sales than about their customers and their pets. I haven't gone into a PetsMart or PetCo in over a year. I just wish they sold the litter that I use, then I'd be set!! read more

This was my first time ever to go to this place so I'm leaving room for error and improvement. Great place, I got bulk parakeet seed fresh for my picky birds.. They have tons of birds here.. maybe too many.. but I know one thing this place is better to go than pet's mart for a pet parakeet. Healthier and happier looking birds. They also have good quality food for the cats and dog and a huge.. HUGE selection of bird toys. Also if you want to raise some chickens this place would be a good place to go. Or bottle feed some abandoned kitten While picking up what I needed a lady in front of me picked out a bulk dog treat for her dog and was pretty much given it as a gift.. .(she only had one) try that at a national chain They also informed me of a clinic that is given every third saturday that is reasonably inexpensive for your yearly shots for your dog or cat. This clinic is done here at this specific location. So I will be back . read more

Having a 4 year old Boxador, my boyfriend and I decided from the first day we laid eyes on our doggie son, Jameson, that we would only buy him all natural food and products. Whatever we can do to allow our doggie son a healthy, happy life. Tomlinson's allows us to do just that. With such a friendly, courteous, knowledgeable staff, they are always ready to help and answer our questions. They have a wide selection of food, treats, toys and other products. I highly recommend Nulo, which is manufactured by an Austin company. Remember to check in for a free pound of dog treats! read more

Excellent Service!!! ----------------------VERY down-to-earth Staff & Feel This store brings you back to the good ol' days, when people remembered your name and the names of your dogs and pets, and what you want and need! It's great being greeted by a friendly staff, who will take the time to help you and make you feel like a person, not a $ sign. I love how they'll even help you out with the heavy stuff to your car and load it. They go out of their way! And NEAT parrots and parrakeets! As well as other interesting critters! Thanks and keep up the great work read more

Great store with friendly knowledgable staff, excellent selection. Our dogs and cats have been on Taste of the Wild for about 5 months after the reccomendation of the store employee. I have noticed that the dogs are calmer and they dont have as much gas. they all four finsih their food within 5 minutes! Great store! read more

What a cute shop. There were some great products, but not enough options in some cases (like pet beds and collars, although they had nice ones). I was happy to find they carry Taste of the Wild, so I didn't have to stop at a different pet store to pick it up. They even had a few brands I hadn't seen before (like the line of grass fed tripe wet dog food - cheaper than other wet dog food and my dog loves it. I was loving him loving it until some of it got on me. Ew ew ew.) Good treat selection. Friendly service. A pound of free dog biscuits from their bins for checking in (and they have gluten/chicken free ones, which is what my dog needs)! That was a great bonus. I'm glad I tried this place out. read more

Love this location! The employees here are really friendly and helpful. They will try their best to suggest things that might work with what you're looking for. For me they help try to find toys that my little weiner dog might not be able to break. Some of the toys are still in decent shape while others of course he still found a way to break. Best place to buy premium brand food. They care a lot of toys that you can't find at Petco or Petsmart. I've bought a lot of the treat and food dispensing puzzle toys here since I couldn't find them anywhere else except online. Also they have and allow you to take 2 sample food bags for either cats or dogs that they place in a basket around the store However I will knock off one star because of the fact that it this place is much more expensive than other places. Compressed rawhide bones are much more expensive here than they are at Petco or Petsmart. read more

Tomlinson's is the best. They actually care about animals and it shows. We are always able to get what we need and the staff always has great recommendations! read more

This store has a great selection of products for not being a mega mart. I was even able to find supplements and toys for my cat that other stores either don't carry, or occasionally (and annoyingly) run out of. Staff: They are probably the coolest staff of any pet store in town because they're friendly and helpful, and best of all, they actually care about animals. Just mention a recent article on animal hoarding in Austin and watch them get all fired up. It's awesome. Tomlinson's also rescues pets and you'll see beautiful birds and other furries being taken care of here. I really, really appreciate this. Sure other stores rescue critters and put them up for adoption but the employees appear lifeless about it, making it seem more of a corporate PR stunt versus actually caring about saving the life of a pet. Whereas here, the staff really cares about their animals. Products: They are well stocked on canned and crunchy versions of various brands, including Wellness Grain-free, however, I didn't see any raw diets available. They also have toys, bedding, and all the necessities variety of pets could need from birds to rabbits as well as our dogs and cats. I also found some cool toys that other stores just don't carry, (such as a high-end wand for my cat with a tiny bug at the end of it. Not the cheap version you'll see in Petco or Petsmart but one that will actually last a few months, and is designed to play very well). Design: The layout is easy to navigate, and though the store is small it's very well-organized so it's easy on the eye. Some smaller stores tend to over clutter just to fit everything in and it becomes difficult to find what you need, but that's not the case here. Overall, the prices for certain items might be a few pennies more than at a large commercial chain, however, you're getting much better customer service here in exchange. There's also a 10% off each purchase discount for members, and they also regularly mail worthy coupons, so if you take advantage of these savings then it really makes shopping here a good deal. read more

I really love the people at Tomlinson's - I've brought puppies in to socialize during their training and they feed and pet the puppies and let the puppies say hello to the birds from a safe distance! The staff is very knowledgeable and I like supporting a local business. They're always very friendly and welcoming, too! Big variety of dog foods and some really great bird toys and supplies! read more

I swear by Tomlinson's. For being a small store, they have a remarkable selection. They have everything that my vet and dog trainer have recommended. I have been buying the discount card ($5/year) and have already received several free bags of dog food and lots of healthy samples for my pup. I love buying their healthy dog treats in bulk, they're the same treats my vet keeps on thecounter. I switched dog food to Natural Balance when a rep was in the store one day and explained the product and gave me some samples. Since that switch, I've learned it's one of the best on the market. Yay for supporting local! I've been surprised at how late they are open some weekdays. I think the South location at the intersection of S Lamar and Ben White/71 is open until 8pm on weekdays. They also have a website. read more

I really like Tomlinson's, and I always feel good when I shop there because I'm supporting a local business. I buy my dog food there (Petco/Petsmart don't carry what I feed my dog, so that makes it easy), and have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Some are more knowledgeable than others, but I go there often enough to know who to ask if I have a specific question. They carry a decent array of products. I would say that their inventory isn't as extensive as that at a larger chain, but they always seem to have the most popular items (e.g., Kongs), and often they have items that I haven't been able to find at the larger chains! read more

Great place to get all your pets personal shopping done! I used this location for about a year when I owned 4 pups and they were the best! Out of all the Tomlinson's, this location is the best! I believe it is the first of the locations too and they have retained the small town friendly atmosphere all these years. Even their store has stayed the same and it really adds to the whole experience, one which you won't find at some of the bigger chains. I have one kiddo that chose not to eat much when I first got him and was pretty underweight along with having a rougher and thinning coat. He also had a touch of anxiety. They were able to offer a great brand of food, goats milk, an herbal anxiety med and plenty of toys and chewy things to keep him occupied and healthy so that my leaving him wasn't so much of an issue. I also like the fact that they would always help me out to the car with the 2 bags of food that we purchased every other week. The staff here is fantastic and the products are worth the drive! I know there are a number of people who have been upset by the prices on things, especially toys but I completely understand why they are a bit higher. The toys they sell are a higher grade, not necessarily more durable or longer lasting in every case. They are made with better materials than what you will find at the big box stores. Don't be turned away from this place because of the reviews that fuss about not being treated like a queen! This place is great and the people are super friendly/knowledgeable! read more

I just got my first dog and the staff did an amazing job helping me find what I was looking for and advising me on kibble. They also have a great return policy. I'll definitely be going back! read more

Yay for Tomlinson's! I got a "365 Things to do in Austin" Deal last week, which reminded me that I've been meaning to go there again. It had been a while. And I'll be back again! The staff was very friendly, without being overbearing. After I'd spent a good amount of time in one aisle looking over things, someone came up and offered assistance. When I politely declined, she told me to let her know if I needed anything or asked any questions, and she went away. This makes me happy! I don't need to be pestered while i'm looking over supplements and flea treatments for my dogs. But if I have questions, I'm happy to know someone is there. They were also SUPER-helpful to a lady and her pup who was terrified to come in. Very friendly. Very cool. I approve. Their selection is pretty darn good, too. No surprise, considering that they actually have a big warehouse in the back... Unlike SOME local pet stores which seem to have constant issues keeping some things in stock. They even had the full line of Orijen food products! And a decent selection of frozen raw diet stuff! Good selection of supplements, too! And they have a lot of local brands, for those with such concerns. Toys, bird stuff, small mammals, you name it... So glad to have re-found a great new (well, again...) pet store! read more

F--k Petsmart and/or the big WalMart like pet stores. (Can i name drop that much?) Tomlinson's is where it's at. I am all about this quaint, homely little pet store. They only carry quality products that I feel good about giving to all my pets (cat, dog, chickens and all!) and they may seem more pricey than what the others carry, but thats because they carry all the nasty shit (the others=nasty shit) I can afford it and I wait tables, so no excuse works. The people who work here really pushed it home for me, though. +Always helpful +Knowledgeable +They help me carry stuff +Member discounts +There are cute animals there! - ??? i got nothing Bottom line, if you are looking for an awesome local business to support-here you go, I just solved all your problems. read more

Amazing, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly staff. They are always willing to help and offer suggestions for my puppy.

This store carries alot of premium brands. The prices are on the high side, but customer service is great. I have mostly shopped for cats, but they seem to have a large selection of food, treats and toys for dogs too. Sometimes they host puppies for adoption. read more

This is a wonderful little pet store! I used to get all my feed here for the waterfowl on the pond. My dog really enjoys the No Hide organic dog bone and the Cloud Star Wag More grain free treats. I'm so glad you carry the Merrick brand of food, too! She loves it! Thank you! read more

I really appreciate the fact that the manager in the store helped me get the best deal I could with a set of coupons I had. I love the service and i love supporting local business. Thank you for your help. The young man manger needs to get a great shout out and the help of the cashier with the glasses was also very nice. read more

Tomlinson's is the best! I can't imagine getting our furry guys their food anywhere else! I am glad they are around and will continue to support them! read more

I was greeted as soon as I entered the door & asked if I needed help. I saw what I needed so I said nope. While looking at collars, I was asked by two different workers if I needed any assistance. One worker explained which collars didn't hold smell as badly if gotten wet (my dog enjoys swimming) so that was helpful because I hate smelly collars! My kids and I looked around the entire store and I felt it was nicely laid out. They had all types of food bowls, organic food for dogs & cats, a pretty decent variety of dog and cat toys. If I lived in the Austin area, I would definitely frequent this store often. Just glad I found my dog a collar that isn't a plain color like those found at Petsmart! read more

Our first visit to this location. I had scheduled my 2 year old Weimaraner for one of the Anasthesia-free dental cleanings and we had an excellent experience all around. It was less expensive than an anasthesia-free cleaning at our vet's office. Both the vet performing the cleaning and his assistant were very friendly, and they offered suggestions for cleaning her teeth at home. I'm very happy Tomlinson's offers this service here and will definitely be back! We also stocked up on some treats - there is a large selection of healthy and natural treats/food/toys/collars/leashes/dog beds/grooming and health products - everything you could need. read more

BEWARE!!! I had a TERRIBLE experience at this store!!!!! I was treated badly and lied to about something very important. I had shopped at this store since 1973, spending 1000+ dollars each year. They treated me like they had never done business with me before, I was and I am still very upset and even saddened about all of this. They knew my name when I would come to purchase items but forgot it when they should have remembered it. I strongly suggest going to Callahan's, they have Diamond Products for just $2 more per bag and will also order the 40 pound bags which Tomlinson's will not do or go to Buck Moore's, there's also a feed store/tractor supply in Bastrop that has better quality bird seed for much cheaper, it's definitely worth the drive. Callahan's is also open until 6pm on Saturdays which fits my schedule much better. And, Costco carriers Diamond Dog food and Cat food under their brand!! Both Callahan's and Buck Moore's have live plants for gardeners and foul for us who prefer fresh eggs. And, they have chimes and other beautiful things for the garden. The selection isn't nearly as good as the selection at Petsmart or Petco and the prices are higher at Tomlinson's. Plus the staff at the Petsmart at Mueller is so nice and helpful!! Management needs to take some Business Management and Customer Service classes. I still can't believe the way I was treated, I am very disappointed in this store!! QUICK!! ... get in your vehicle and head to Callahan's, Buck Moore's, Gallery of Pets, Bastrop Feed store, Bastrop Tractor Supply store, Costco, Bark 'n Purr, or any other decent place to shop for your pets and gardening needs or special gifts. read more

They have a really good selection of dog treats, natural dog food, and a good variety of toys. The staff is always friendly, informative and willing to carry the 30 pound bags of dogfood out to the car. Their selection of natural dog food is unparalleled by the big chains. read more

I had my first visit today. This store is great, reminds me of the Feed shops I used to go to with my Papa to get horse feed. The staff is very nice and very knowledgeable. We love this neighborhood pet store. They are so helpful and knowledgeable about all of their products. Our puppy had pretty severe food allergies and Tomlinson's helped us figure out which food was best for him. He's also a pretty picky eater and if your pet doesn't eat the food, you can return the bag. I love going in and getting exactly what I need. They love your pet just as much as you! read more

Tomlinson's is a great! The staff is ALWAY very helpful and, wow, knowledgeable. I've learned more about pet nutrition from the staff at Tomlinson's than I have from the 5+ veterinarians I've seen (not for me, my dog). One note, if you have a shy dog be aware that every time I've been to Tomlinson's there has been a loose dog in the store. Tomlinson's rocks, and their staff rocks more! read more

I went in to buy more dog food for my Mastiff, Leonard. I mentioned concern because he had been a bit lathargic, vomitting in the mornings, and didn't really seem like himself. The awesome guys and girls at tomlinson's helped me make a switch in food from Nutro to Holistic Blend and problem solved! They saved me big vet bills and tons of time and energy worrying and googling what could be wrong. Thanks guys, for being so smart and caring about my guy enough to stop and try to figure things out with me. Always ask tomlinson's first! That's my lesson because the vet is way more complicated and they opt to treat with expensive tests and drugs even when the solution could be so simple! read more

I went there today, 1/4/10 at about 4 pm. guess I came on a "I don't want to be at work day" This place is close to me and I'd rather spend money here that at a chain. No other customers were in the store yet I was not greeted when I walked in. I wandered the store looking for cat food before I asked where it was and was told it was grouped by manufacturer not K9 or feline. I'd kinda figured that out by that time. I really didn't know what food I should get my cat but I got no help figuring out which food to pick. I walked out without buying anything. Guess I'll have to try again. read more

I think some of you folks who think the employees at this store give good advice are off your rockers. My dog was so sick after taking the advice of one female associates there (you know who you are) to buy raw turkey necks instead of the large bones which he normally sets with no problem. I did not ask for this woman's advice whatsoever, however when I was checking out, she insisted these were a far healthier alternative than their regular bones, and would be great for a bulldog. I'm not sure if these people get commission on selling certain brands or what, but this chick was obnoxious, clearly more focused on selling than actually listening, and has ruined our trust in the employees at this location. Thanks for making our dog have diarrhea all over the place and sick to the point of throwing up for 3 days -and for trying to sell us junky food that we later learned from the vet is not suitable for an English Bulldog. We are never stepping into this place again. Healthy pets is the store to go to, or the Tomlinson's in Westlake. This location is garbage in my opinion, and always tries to upsell us on items that are not the best or the healthiest for our dog, or on items we don't even want, period. read more

I keep my kitten on a frozen raw diet...but when we were leaving to go camping and couldnt find some one to come in and feed our cat for a couple days we were panicking to find a equivalent that wouldnt to drastically change his diet. Corey helped us find Ziwi Peak which not only did or cat love he also helped us find some puzzle toys to make him work for his food since we are strongly against open bowl feeding. And the fountain he showed us is a dream ive never seen my cat drink so much water... over all this was one of my best experiences at a pet store corey is a champ and definently saved our weekend out...definently going to be shopping here for life!!!! Really nice little local pet store! Has a very mom-and-pop feel to it. I'm always greeted when I walk in and someone always is there to help if you need assistance. Perfect local pet store with friendly staff and great selection. The membership is worth it (not necessary for purchase).

This is a great place. They offer a discount card, but they will tell you if you don't need it (it's not a hard sell, in other words). For a while, I entertained the notion of taking my big grumpy cat out for walks. I looked at their harnesses and asked them, "What size would you recommend for a 20 lb. cat?" They said just bring him in and they'd do a fitting. I tried to explain that this cat is not going to put up with that, but they acted like it was no big deal. Very sweet. They have a huge selection of healthy cat food, too. read more

For a puppy with grain allergies, Tomlinson's is absolutely the only place to find food at a good price. With multiple brand options you're able to find at least a few flavors and a price that works for you. I really enjoy going as the staff is always really friendly and helpful if you have any questions. read more

We always purchase our pets food from here! They offer a club where you can get discounts on certain products.
