When I'm shopping for the fur guy, I tend to come here and Paws on Chicon. I love supporting local businesses. They've got a wide selection of items that I need for my dog. He eats Ollie food and though they don't carry it. However, they've got comparable product if we run out and we're in a pinch. I like the selection of healthy treats for him as well as the toy selection. There have been times when I can't get to the store and they've provided same-day delivery. Great local pet store! I was looking for a local pet store for cat supplements so I could stop going to the Big Box stores , and I stumbled upon this gem. Every time I've been here, the staff has been extremely friendly and helpful, guiding me to what are my normal products and what new things I could try. I also get my Pine litter from here. Keep in mind, it's a local business so they won't have all the brands you have access to at the big stores but overall the selection is impressive. My senior Golden Retriever mix has been depressed since the passing of his big brother so I took him out for some rainy day retail therapy. I've somehow never been to this Tomlinson's before. As per usual, the staff was wonderful. They were incredibly informative with zero pressure and also interacted so sweetly with my dog. I think I ended up purchasing around $100 worth of products on a whim and am SO happy I did. Nothing compares to the product quality, value, and especially the thoughtful and considerate service. I love my little Tomlinson's. The crew who work here are fantastic: friendly and knowledgeable, happy to help. When I brought my puppy in his first time (after he was vaccinated), he was still not great on a leash. The sup/manager pulled a little doggie bed out of its box and put it in a cart so I could put him in and push him around. Someone else helped me with dog biscuits and bones, and another person helped me find a tough-to-destroy toy with no squeaker. Every visit has been lovely, and my dog is way better at walking around in here now. read more

This is my go-to place for grain-free, high quality cat & dog food and the, "my-cats-butt-is-special" litter. We joined their membership program and now the raw food my dog prefers (cause I'm a sucker and do what he says) is much cheaper than I can find it anywhere else, even online. I love the fact that every time I bring my dog in here he has a blast. He likes to peruse the bulk snacks and if I'm not watching him like a hawk he will help himself, but the staff never gets upset or snippy about it. In fact, they seem to welcome dogs being dogs in their store, how refreshing!! This is particularly nice since the treats are in an open bin on ground level, and if it was a huge deal when he stuck his face in there I probably wouldn't bring him back. But it's not so I will, and just be extra careful not to take advantage of their niceness. :) I thoroughly enjoy the people who work here. Every single employee I've ever spoken to here is kind, helpful, laid back and eager to share their knowledge of their products. I like to geek out with the ladies who are also into talking about dog food. Yep, just us dog food weirdos over here. All in all this place is the absolute best. I recently adopted an old lady cat who's missing most of her teeth and has digestive, thyroid, and kidney issues, so I'm getting very familiar with Austin's specialty pet stores. I like Tomlinson's a lot. They're nearby my house and they carry the only kind of food my cat will eat right now, which is the salmon Wellness Core. They also have a good selection of frozen raw foods that surprisingly are less expensive than some of the canned, and my cat can actually eat those without throwing up. The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable, and one woman in particular is super, super nice. They always offer to help bring my stuff out to my car, which I have to keep declining (hey, I need to build my muscles). If you join the pet club (I think it's around $7/year?) you get a discount on all foods, and Tomlinson's already has the best prices in town on specialty cat foods, at least the stuff my cat eats. The only problem is, this store has limited hours and they don't carry a wide selection of goods like litter boxes, supplements, scratching posts, etc., despite the fact that it's next to the warehouse. It would also make my life so much easier if they carried Tidy Cat or a regular litter other than World's Best or Blue, because while I like the natural litters, they don't work that well with a cat that has digestive issues, if you get my drift. I've tried all of them, and I always end up having to completely change the litter after a week, which gets expensive really fast. read more

Love this store (all of them). This location is a bit on the smaller side compared to the one on Burnet. The staff is always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their products. This is a specialty store so prices are going to be a bit higher, but I go because this is the only place that carries the kind of dog food I feed my pups and their Pet club discount on food (10%) makes it totally worth it. It's $7.50 a year and pays for itself in one purchase. I like supporting a local store vs buying on Amazon. My dogs absolutely love the oatmeal bites they have in the bulk section. I went here to see what the store was about. I have heard good things but just recently converted from the chain pet stores. I've gotten raw dog food from Phydeaux & Friends and this place has way more locations than they do! I pulled up in the parking lot. The outside seemed very Texas themed. I went inside and it was very small compared to the chain stores but they had very good stuff. They were even having a good sale on the raw dog food that my pup eats. stella and chewy's was 25% off! The guy behind the counter was very nice and talked to me about certain brands. I got to meet the store dog who was big and sweet. They let me come behind the counter to pet the dog! So cute. anyway. Tomlinson's! Always been my favorite. Go to this location since it's closer to my job. Stopped in yesterday found a cute sweater but the only one that would fit my dog had a snag. When I asked if they had another one the lady in front looks in back and come out to tell me no but there are plenty of others on shelf. I explain yes but my dog is a girl and those are blue and not very girly. She then proceeds to tell me what is a gender and that's a sensitive subject. Wow my dogs a girl and I like to dress her as a girl! You should not be discussing what you believe in with me or any other customer. I love shopping local and this place although more pricey will answer questions in a more educated fashion then the big chain pet stores. They have a variety of brands of food, toys, pet clean up bags and everything your pet may possibly need. I have been looking into finding a grain free or lower grain content food for my one dog since she has seasonal allergies and the vet said that food with grain or high grain contents can amplify that. I went in and spoke to one of the gals about it and she pointed me in the direction of the wet food section, explained the food selection and what the top sellers were. I bought a couple of different flavors to try because I never know what my girls will like. I also talked to her about Luna's constant scratching to the point where she is losing fur and bleeding. She pointed me to a spray that is manufactured by a local Austin company and I purchased it. I hate giving my dog Benedryl like the vet recommends and it doesn't really work on her symptoms anyway. They also have a loyalty type card that saves you a percentage on all pet food items. My girls loved the lamb and beef flavors of the food I bought and the spray not only smells great but, it has stopped Luna's scratching. It has made her more comfortable and has helped me to stop her from scratching. You may pay a higher price here but, I think it is quality versus quantity for your pets who are most likely family like mine. read more

So, I generally feel that New Year's Resolutions are kind of, um, stupid and are made to be broken, but this year I sort of resolved to try to shop local. Alex M. sent me in the direction of Tomlinson's in lieu of my regular PetCo, and I haven't been back to PetCo since. They have the same kittycat food that my cats always eat, but they ALSO have the special treat canned food they get every once in a while and REALLY love. One stop shopping, no extra trips to the pet store on SoCo or to the Bark and Purr (had a bad experience a couple years ago). The associates are generally pretty friendly, they automatically signed me up for the pet food buy 10, get the 11th bag free. They even gave me credit for a big bag once, when I was poor and had to buy the small one so my kitties wouldn't starve to death. They have an okay selection of toys and other kitty accessories. Everything is a touch more expensive than you'd spend at other places, but, you're supporting local business, so it's totally worth it. I also got a coupon in the mail a few days ago for a free toy in celebration of the opening of their new location. I think this is a resolution that I'll keep. read more

Conveniently located right behind Mrs. Johnson's Donuts on Airport, over by the I Heart Video, the folks at Tomlinson's are polite, funny, helpful, and affordable. Much better than the Bark 'N Purr over on Burnet. They carry everything for dogs, cats, and birds. The central store does have more limited hours than big chains (9-6 Mon - Fri and 10-4 Sat), but it feels better to shop with the locals. As far as I'm concerned, Tomlinson's is THE place to buy pet food if you feed a premium brand. Their loyalty program ensures that you'll pay less here than you would at Bark n' Purr (which has shady management, anyway). Employees at this particular location are friendly and helpful, and you'll always find some new treat or toy that nobody else carries. I love the bulk Old Mother Hubbard treats, chews made of indistinguishable animal parts, locally-made collars, and "high end" toys that you won't find at big box pet stores. -1 star for pricing on some of their supplies. Things like tie-outs, long lines, training gear, etc. can cost you a pretty penny here. If you're on a budget you may want to do some comparison shopping. I spent like $28 on a long line here once, only to find a nearly identical product at Wal-Mart for $8. Yikes! read more

I really like this pet store. The staff are always really nice and knowledgeable. I've tried a bunch of different types of dog foods b/c my dog seems to have a sensitive stomach and the last time I was there, the staff gave me really valuable and complete info about a food I was asking about. Their prices are a little bit lower than those of Bark n' Purr and they seem to have a greater variety of treats like cow spines and pig hearts, which Bark n' Purr doesn't have. They also have a wide variety of foods for other pets like cats, birds, and rodents. Usually, they'll also have a little piglet there that's super cute. I forgot to look to see if he was there the last time I went to Tomlinson's. I also like to come here to support a locally owned business that values their customers. read more

I love coming here to pet the bunnies. They're absolutely adorable. I want one to make bunny poop for my plants. I was introduced to Tomlinson's by a friend of mine who came here to buy lorakeet seed. The brand he buys is apparently hard seed to come by and Tomlinson's is the only store in the Austin area that sells it. The building looks and feels like an old feed store, and it is I guess. The feel of the place is very nice - rural and homey, relaxing and slow. Yes, they sell live animals but they're small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits and birds. Plus it's perfectly legal to sell live animals in Texas. If your kid needs a couple of purebred rabbits to breed for 4-H, you can find bunnies here. read more

Five hungry ladies live in my backyard. Sylvie, Regina, Lupe, Nancy Lou, and Sara Silverman are big eaters, and despite spending hours foraging for bugs and grass, they still insist on a hardy meal of organic scratch and lay pellets for dinner. And who the hell am I to complain? They poop eggs out of their rampas de heuvo daily. This morning, my wife cracked one open and it had two yolks! I ate it, and am pretty sure I am now immortal, or at the bare minimum, have mystical healing powers. We usually buy our feed at Buck Moore's, because it's close to our home and it's been there since the Spanish Inquisitions. Buck Moore, may he rest in peace, has a picture hanging on the wall of when Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile stopped by to pick up a pigs ear and a couple cans of cat food. Despite hobnobbing with monarchs, the guys at Buck Moore are some real dapper dandies, kindly slinging the 50 lb. bags of feed over their shoulders and carrying them to my car as if the bags are damsels in distress, and my car is. . . well, a kind gentleman that will not try to kiss them or get fresh at a time when freshness is neither welcomed nor appropriate. Our last two trips to Buck Moore have been slightly less scratchful (a new phrase I am coining to measure the success or failure of a chicken scratch shopping excursion) than usual; since the ladies don't like to eat cyanide and the Monsanto sprays of death and dehydrated frog lips, we only buy the organic stuff, and they've been running low on it. Once they were closed during normal business hours, which we also know occasionally has to happen and we aren't knocking on the Buckster here, it's just that no egg-a-lisciousness comes out the ladies backends if we don't put something down the front end, know what I'm sayin' here? So Tomlinson's isn't but a few buttes and valleys down the bayou from Buck Moore's, it turns out. I'll be Pollywogdalina if this place isn't one of the feedier places I've been to. A strapping young man carried our loot to the car, the small fries got to look at all the adorable rabbits and birds, we joined the frequent customer club for a mere 5 bucks and saved almost 4 on our purchase at the checkout as a result, and nobody died while we were there, which is a somewhat new litmus test I am holding businesses to when I review them. Tons of treats and eats and toys for your pets, very few (if any) torture devices or inhumane articles for obedience training on the shelves, and nobody gave me the hairy eyeball when I let out a few chicken noises by mistake and pecked my own beak into the serve-yourself feed bar. My wife combed my wattle and all was back to normal. We've got feed now. This place is air conditioned, has easy parking access, is not far from a donut place and Casey's New Orleans Sno Balls (if you love balls AND sno, why wouldn't you stop here?), and nobody yelled at us or locked us in the basement.
