The HIRED staff is nice and the prices are fair... but I worry about the health of their birds. I have been a parrot aficionado my entire life, having been raised from a very small child with parrots, and have spent countless hours raising parrots and rescuing wild birds... from feeding baby birds and parrots, to rescuing and rehabilitating everything from garden finches to red tailed hawks. Every time I go in there, the birds in the bird room do not look healthy. I actively refrain from touching anything in a pet store's bird room due to the fact I do not want to bring any germs home to my own birds, but I take extra precautions here. I am aware it is molting season right now for many species such as Parakeets, Cockatiels, etc... but I have gone in during normal feather seasons and still seen Cockatiels and Parakeets in horrible condition... I have seen healthier looking birds at Petco.... It really makes me worry for the health and safety of the animals. They also had a large parrot, it was either in the Poicephalus Parrot family, or the Caique family... but the bird's plumage was in horrible shape, the animal did not look healthy. Another time, they had Green Cheeked Conures that looked to be in horrible health. There is a big difference between a bird that is molting, and a bird that is sick and unhealthy. Were I to be looking to bring another feathered baby into my family, I would definitely NOT purchase one from this location. This place is more reminiscent of a store selling the parrot equivalent of puppy mill animals, rather than a store working to provide animals in the utmost physical health.
Then on top of it, there have been two separate occasions where I was happily discussing my Indian Ringneck with the cashier, and the owner of the store came out of nowhere and interjected into the conversation to make a negative comment about the species of bird I own... an incredibly uninformed and ignorant opinion. It wasn't even done in a way that was remotely considerate, or asking if it was my experience. She just brashly declared her uninformed opinion as if it were absolute fact, and when I refuted it, she essentially told me I was wrong and then walked off. I found it to be extremely rude and was quite offended both times, as every single Indian Ringneck I have ever interacted with has been anything but. You do not spread false myths about animals when you are the owner of a pet store... it is your job to make darn sure you are accurately informed so that you may help any pet owners that may come in asking for your advice.
All in all, I don't think I will be returning... I was happy to find a little mom and pop pet store, as they tend to be my prefered choice... but I will be taking my business somewhere else that takes much better care of their animals, because honestly? As horrible as the parrot market is at places like Petco and Petsmart..... they have healthier looking animals. read more
