Tomlinson's is a locally-owned feed supply store for pets and their owners. The now 60-year-old store was once a chick hatchery, then a livestock feed store (including poultry), then a wholesale bird store, then gradually a pet supplies and retail outlet - what it is today. I enjoyed the Tomlinson's "feel" - pleasant, friendly, Austin. I was impressed with the amount of stock dedicated to gerbils, hamsters and others in the rodent family. That's something you don't necessarily see all too often anymore. I also was thoroughly amused as I perused their selection of dog sweaters and bandannas...they rival Bark N Purr when it comes to fashion for your fur balls and felines. They also have a respectable supply of pet beds in varying shapes, styles and colors (although you'll pay a pretty penny for these.) Other than the aforementioned, they've got stuff for birds, fish, reptiles and "small animals". This particular store in Westbank Market on Bee Caves is tucked into the very corner of the shopping center and is hard to see at first glance. The staff is friendly and the supply is sufficient, but I was quite disappointed with their merchandise when it came to cat food and cat litter. Poor selection here. Other than my cat supply complaint, I support Tomlinson's and encourage you to check one out (four stores total). They offer a nice alternative to the more sterile Petco or Petsmart. However, a warning for those who take their dogs with them everywhere...they are more strict about bringing your pets indoors than a Petco will be. Tomlinson's is pretty terrific.

This is the only place I go to to get my dog's food, pet's treat's, leashes and doggy toys! They are so sweet, they know you by name and and use the keep Austin local card. They saved my one our dogs about 4 years ago because we were serving her science diet and that is when we learned about by products and dogs cannot digest corn. Before I had walked into the store, we had been told she would live for another few weeks, she ended up living for another five years!

Our little one of 18 years went into heart failure a couple of weeks ago, and her condition steadily declined. With each passing day, the question of when it was time to say goodbye became more difficult. When we thought it might be time, we reached out to CPETVET. We began communicating via email, and during that time, our little one had one more good day. The team kindly shared in that moment with us and encouraged us to reach back out when we were ready. The following day, we knew it was time--she was no longer moving or eating, and her breathing had become shallow. We made the decision to proceed, and Dr. Liz arrived within a few hours.Dr. Liz was incredibly compassionate and understanding, while also clearly explaining the process and what to expect. She showed such empathy for our family's grief, giving us the time and space we needed to say goodbye. This was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but I find comfort in knowing our loved one passed peacefully at home--under our roof, in my arms, surrounded by family. Thank you to Dr. Liz and everyone at CPETVET for guiding us through such a difficult time. There are no words to fully express our gratitude for the love and comfort you provided in her final moments.

My cat was recently diagnosed (at a different vet) with a somewhat rare parasite (Tritrichomonas),…read moreand I was having a hard time finding a vet I felt confident in. My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.

All of the Dr's are very warm, open, transparent, compassionate and always present a wide range of treatment options between conservative care and very aggressive care so we can make the most informed and appropriate choices. The front desk staff is also extremely responsive and this can make or break a business. Most recently we've worked with a newer Dr, Dr Johnson and he's a perfect fit to compliment the rest of the Drs - we love working with him, he's patient, knowledgeable and empathetic and that means everything in the business of treating neglected senior dogs that come through our local shelters. SOUTH PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL is now owned by a VENTURE CAPITAL FIRM called National Veterinary Associates, which in turn is owned by JAB Holding company, JAB has tripled in size since it started buying up vets and charging confiscatory prices, taking advantage of our love of our pets. I gave them two stars because at least they did my cat right and he's fine now. BUT they started burying me in pitch emails too, trying to feed fear about my cat's health, constantly trawling me for more money, more money, more money, all while pretending to care about my cat when they don't. If the people at South Park Animal Hospital really loved animals as much as they love MONEY, they wouldn't have sold out. But they did. I will never go back and suggest you don't start.
