Finally got to try this legend of a sushi spot. It's Korean-owned and in the heart of Davie Village. They don't take reservations, so I suggest walking in, leaving your name and then walk to explore the neighbourhood & beaches while you wait for your call-back. I felt like we got great value since their pricing was more mid-tier BUT what we got was higher quality of fish, beautiful plating, & a more refined ambiance! We tried: -spicy salmon sashimi (I LOVE that they used gochujung instead of of a sriracha-based sauce) -seasonal bluefin sashimi (so melt in your mouth) -Salmon Jalapeno Aburi Hako (too much sauce, and too little melt in your mouth salmon compared to the rice. I've had better aburi) -Dirty Magma roll (I had such high hopes for anything with chopped scallops - but man do they drench & overwhelm it with too much sauce...I had to scrape most of it off since that's all you can taste) Overall, happy to have tried it but it won't be in my favourite roster of sushi joints. I would come back only for their spicy salmon sashimi though!!
I would give Tom Sushi 6 stars if I could. This is one of my all time favorite sushi places. I found out about this restaurant from a few different YouTubers who highly recommended it. Not just for great sushi, but really affordable prices as well. Yes, the wait for a table can get long. We waited about 45 minutes, and there's no area to wait except outside or go take a walk since they will text you when your table is ready. I also appreciate seeing where my place in line is through Yelp! First, a shoutout to the wonderful service here. Everywhere I go in Vancouver the service is great, but the server here was so friendly, helpful and efficient. The ambiance is really nice here and I love the place settings! We had a lot, so here is my breakdown: Spicy Agedashi Tofu - lightly fried tofu in a sauce that reminded me of gochuchang sauce. 7/10 Gyoza - crispy fried with a pork/veggie filling. 6/10 Karaage chicken - on the bone, but delicious nonetheless. Served with a mayo sauce. 7/10 Tuna Bomb - 10/10 this came out last because it takes longer to make. This is an absolute must-do. Crispy rice patties with a spicy tuna spread that you just place on the rice. Salmon jalapeno aburi hako - 10/10 I have been excited about this since I heard about it. The seared salmon on top of rice with a shrimp tempura running through the middle. The salmon and sauce on top melt in your mouth. Red Dynamite Roll - 9/10 this was my brother's favorite. I wanted it to be a bit spicier, but that said it's still so amazing. Mango Flower Roll - 9/10 if you like mango then you will love this. This also just melts in your mouth and that mango is just so fresh. California roll - 8/10 as great as a California roll can be! No complaints here! Rainbow Roll - I didn't get to try it, but my niece gave it a 10/10! I will definitely be coming back here again.
My friend wanted to try this place, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 5:45pm, and were told there would be about a 90 min wait and they would contact us when our table is ready. It ended up being closer to 60 min. The place is not big. I counted maybe 36 seats. The interior is nice but generic enough to be just about any type of restaurant. The menu accessed via QR code. I ended up trying the following: - Assorted Tempura: Good. Light batter, but slightly overbrowned. - Miso Black Cod: Good. More elaborate presentation than most, but very small piece. - Salmon Belly Sashimi: Very good. Fresh and delicious. - Tom Special Roll Tray: Very good. A great way to sample all the different roll, all which are very good. I thought it was reasonably priced and could adequately feed 4 people. Service was very good. There are a LOT of staff, so we were constantly being checked on to make sure we were happy and got anything we needed. Overall a good meal. It doesn't classify as the best sushi in Vancouver, but I can see the quality-value ratio might be the best in the city. All the food was quite good and certainly not overpriced. I imagine the high staff count was due to the overwhelming amount of takeout orders. I would return.
Salmon sashimi was super fresh and yummy! The rolls were ok - a bit too saucy/decorated for my taste, but not bad. This place seems very popular. It was very hard to get seating on a weekday evening - the wait was over an hour and they said they didn't know if they'd be able to seat us before closing. We ended up ordering to go, which took about ~25 minutes.
Went on a Saturday night around 8:10pm and got told they would call us by 9pm if a spot opened up. They were very clear about the fact that last call is shortly after 9 so we might not be able to get a table in time. I appreciated this and would much prefer this over expecting to have a table than being disappointed. We got lucky though and were able to get seated right around 9. Service was very prompt and we were able to order, eat, and get out of the restaurant pretty quickly. Overall great experience even though I didn't absolutely love everything we ordered House roll: 3/5 this was ok. It sounded good initially but I think there was just too much going on Spicy chopped scallop roll: 4/5 presentation wasn't the best but it still tasted good Red dynamite roll: 5/5 their most popular roll for good reason. I would def recommend this one Salmon and tuna nigiri: 5/5 I liked both a lot and this perfectly scratched the itch for my sushi craving
After an okay experience at one of Vancouver's more famous sushi restaurants, we decided that we needed to visit Tom Sushi for some better food. I walked in and checked in. Almost an hour later, we were seated. Service was good. We ordered a bunch of rolls, nigiri and some sashimi. Most of the rolls seemed like a variation of a California roll with different fillings. The nigiri was a variety of tuna, salmon, shrimp, clam and scallop. The sashimi was a nice piece of tuna. Everything that they served was fresh and tasted good. We liked our experience at Tom Sushi. They gave us what we missed the night before at a fancier place.
So fresh! One of the best yellowtail I've had! Customer service was great! All Ladies were super charismatic. Ambience was cosy and nice. Small so there is a good chance for wait but it's worth it.
TLDR: Great sushi restaurant at an affordable price and good location. Would recommend going early since it does get quite busy and the space isn't huge. Food: We had the tuna nigiri trio (2 orders), salmon aburi, kimchi udon, and dx assorted nigiri. All pieces of fish were extremely fresh and tasty, with the tuna trio being a highlight by progressing from lean tuna to fatty otoro. The aburi was also amazing, with the richness of the aburi style complemented by the spicy jalapeno and crunchy tempura inside of the pieces. The dx nigiri combo had standard pieces and both salmon and tuna maki. One thing to keep in mind is that only the tuna trio came with "real" wasabi, all other items came with horseradish wasabi. Price: The prices here are great, which is probably one reason why the restaurant is so busy. To get this quality of sushi at this price is an extreme value! Service/Ambiance: Service was outstanding with there being lots of wait staff. The restaurant isn't very large, with tables being fairly close to one another but that wasn't a huge issue for us since we only had 2 people. The decorations are bright, modern, and chic. Misc: Tom sushi does not take reservations! We went at around 6:15 on a Saturday and had to wait around ~20 minutes for a 2 person table. After us though the waitlist did grow to over 5+ parties.
Tuna Vancouver is better than Seattle. All the food was presented wonderfully. Soba has frozen broth which kept the the firm texture just right. I'm not a roll person, but this signature roll had fried bits over a glorified California roll. I really enjoyed the nigiri. Highlights to otoro, fluke, scallop, shrimp/shrimp head. Also a good date spot. There were a couple of tables where people were on date night.
Tom sushi is top-tier very fresh sushi located in the West End where there is ample competition for your dining experience. Tom sushi is top-tier very fresh sushi located in the West End where there is ample competition for your dining experience. We arrived late in the evening as our efforts to go to another West End restaurant failed glad we came to Tom sushi as Every dish was presented very quickly and was freshly prepared even though it was last call shortly. I had the teriyaki chicken with rice, which was a very generous serving for an extremely reasonable price. I also had chicken karaage which was freshly deep-fried and not refried stationed food The tuna and salmon sashimi were very cold and generously cut. Aburi Sushi was perfectly pressed with jalapeño pepper to add some heat sushi is my go to downtown
Visiting from Toronto and wanted sushi before I leave. Did some research and came here on Thanksgiving around noon. It was busy and we put our number down for a table. They said it would be 25 min wait but it was ended up only being a 5 min wait. The restaurant isn't very big but very cozy with comfortable seating. The service was fast, quick and attentive. I got the salmon aburi and dirty magma specialty roll. Everything was very tasty, the ingredients paired well, and it was fresh. I did find their sushi a little too saucy, but it was good nevertheless. The beef yakisoba was also really tasty, average portions. My partner got the bluefin nigiri trio and said the fish was very fresh. Overall, a solid spot for sushi. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for sushi in Vancouver!
This is my second time at Tom's and I love it here. As soon as you walk in you can smell the delicious sushi. Everything is fresh and well made. The rice is seasoned perfectly. Sashimi is thick and flavourful. Can't go wrong with any of the rolls. The Aburi is also delicious. We got a creamy kimchi udon this time and I was surprised by how much I liked that one too. Be prepared to wait a while but it's worth it. Just walk about nearby until it's your turn. There's a waitlist but no reservations. Service is friendly. I'll be back!
One of my favorite places to get sushi in Vancouver! I try to come every time I am visiting the country. The prices are really great and affordable for fresh fish. The restaurant isn't that big and it's quite popular so try to make reservations ahead of time or be prepared to wait! Great for mainly parties of 2-4 ppl in my opinion. A must order for me every time is the salmon aburi sushi. Highly recommend!

For our last meal in Vancouver, we decided to check out the sushi scene. My husband and I went for dinner on a Wednesday at around 6:30. They don't accept reservations, and we were quoted an hour wait (they'll call you when your table is ready), and the quote was accurate. Since I'm expecting, I sadly had to skip out on the raw fish. I ordered the Super Spider Roll (soft shell crab, avocado, kappa, masago in a sesame soybean paper with tonkatsu sauce), and the BC Roll (BBQ salmon skin, crab meat, kappa, masago, unagi sauce), hold the masago. FYI - kappa is cucumber. The rolls weren't bad for cooked rolls. But if you're eating a whole tempura roll (super spider) by yourself, it becomes a bit much after a while. I liked the BC roll better. Even though it was fake crab meat, it tasted like higher quality fake crab meat, if that makes sense. I also had a piece of the Dungeness crab sushi, but it had too much mayo and was just underwhelming. I'm not even sure if it was real Dungeness crab, or the same fake crab meat they used for the BC roll. Hubby had the Sashimi Sushi Combo (tuna and salmon sashimi - 2 pcs each, ebi, tuna, salmon, hokkigai, and chopped scallop), and ordered some toro and salmon belly sashimi on the side. He had no complaints, and it looked really good. So I'm sure their raw options are probably better but if I were just basing my review off the cooked rolls, I would have to give it 3 stars. read more
If you do not have a reservation, you will have to wait for about 30 minutes to an hour. Very popular! I was solo and ordered Bluefin Sashimi Trio (2pcs of O-Toro, Chu-Toro, and Akami $46.00), Uni and Ikura Nigiri, Deluxe Aburi Hako 6pcs $15.00 (Japanese traditional pressed sushi. Comes w/ housemade pickled zuku jalapeno on top.) and also miso soup. To be honest, I was disappointed with the Bluefin Sashimi Trio. Sashimi looked good, but it was streaky and remained in the mouth. Normally it would be melt-in-your-mouth delicious! I left the Deluxe Aburi Hako sushi. I liked inside the restaurant energy and nice staff. read more

If you watch YouTube food videos on cities you're about to travel to, like I do, then you will inevitably see Tom Sushi in many of the Vancouver ones. The claims were that Tom Sushi has very fresh food and large portions for a very reasonable price. Well, they were right! It was just as advertised and since we had heard how popular they were, we went before the rush and got a great table right away. So yes, go early or late otherwise you may be standing on the sidewalk for a while since it isn't a large restaurant or has much of a waiting area. But please do go since the sushi is all very fresh, creative, well executed, and very well priced. The fine service and comfortable ambiance make for a very good time. read more

Recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint! Fresh sushi, and the lineup out the door was worth the wait. Many people were ordering takeout too. We got Tray C to share between 5 people, and in addition we got the chicken udon and donburi. We also got 4 pieces of salmon sashimi to try. Expect to wait on a busy night with no reservation. Ambiance transports you to Japan and it feels quite nice. read more

Mom ordered take out delivered to us. Didn't get to experience the sit-in restaurant. Pros: - Sushi was so fresh with good quality fish - lots of variety to choose from - spicy rolls are my go-to and this place does it really nice with a sauce that isn't too overpowering nor messy - food was packed nicely, nothing tipped over or spilled en route read more
No reservations so we thought we could beat the rush by coming at 5:45. Seems like others were smarter than us. Place was packed and we waited till 6:45 till a table was free for 7 ppl. Host and service staff were top notch and super friendly and helpful. On to the food. One of the best and freshest fish I've had in Vancouver which is a place known for fresh fish. Salmon aburi was the only mediocre dish. I'm just not a fan of overly sauced sushi. I prefer the natural texture and flavors. Everything else was terrific. The sashimi deluxe was awesome. All the nigiris were delicious especially the amaebi (sweet raw shrimp), it even came with the accompanying fried shrimp head. The blue fin toro special pieces were delicious albeit a bit pricier. The cooked dishes were also great. The agedashi tofu was especially nice along with the assorted tempura. Price was very good for Vancouver standards. Will definitely come back again. read more
We were on a vacation with six of us and are always on the prowl for great food wherever we go. My son found Tom's Sushi in Vancouver so we headed over and got there before they opened. There was a line already and we were lucky enough to get one of two seatings for larger parties without having to wait. The line and wait just got longer after we were seated. The biggest highlight was my Tonkatsu meal, my wife's Ebi Donburi Bowl and the gyoza. All three of the dishes were solid 5 stars. My wife gave her Ebi Donburi Bowl double 5 stars. My Tonkatsu was dipped in homemade Panko crumbs, fried to a nice crunch, flavorful without the sauce and not oily; 5 stars. My wife loved the crisped up Ebi, the tempura that came on top and the nice flavors with all of the ingredients cooked nicely. The Gyoza was pan fried just right with a nice crisp to the bottom, flavorful pork filling and a nice soothing dipping sauce. The rest of the family had sushi and sashimi. They enjoyed the sashimi more than the sushi rolls. It wasn't the best they have had but that said everything was pretty good, especially the Salmon sashimi. Although the place doesn't have hundreds or thousands of reviews, they will get there over time. Excellent service, fantastic value, generous portions and great food. If you are in Vancouver visiting or live there, Tom's Sushi is and will be a great choice. Don't miss out, Eat Tom's Sushi. read more

By far the best Japanese food we have ever had! We walked in minutes after opening and got the last open table. Ambiance is chill. Everything we had is highly recommended as a must try. - Salmon belly sashimi - wish we got the large - Loin cheese katsu - this plate comes with a extra serving of cabbage salad and rice if you'd like. The salad was so good. - blue fin trio nigiri - I could have ate 2 more plates of this read more
100% recommend. We are so glad we stopped by Tom's Sushi on our last day in town. Tom's consistently showed up on multiple lists for top restaurants in Vancouver. I was a little skeptical given the name of the place and exterior, but it did not disappoint. We actually weren't too hungry but needed to kill some time so decided to stop by since we were in the area. It was an off time on a Wednesday so we had no wait. Love that they serve you some hot tea right when you are seated. That was a nice touch. The place setting was also very nice. We opted to go for nigiri. Different that what we're used to where 1 order of nigiri is 2 pieces, at Tom's, it was only 1 piece. We got a wide variety of salmon, salmon belly, eel, saba, toro, chu toro, hamachi, and tamago. The best ones were the chu toro, toro, and hamachi. I've never had such a delicious toro in the states. It was so melty. Amazing really. read more

Absolutely one of my favourite new places!! The ambiance/decor was very inviting and elegant in a cozy way; the service was fantastic!! and the food was delicious, nicely plated and came quickly despite a busy lunch time rush. The prices were very competitive and the variety of food was impressive. From fancier sushi (pressed type or rarer fish) to simple noodle dishes and a nice variety of appetizers, there is something from everyone! Thanks Tom Sushi for a great first experience; I'll be back!! read more
They don't take resos online or over the phone, but you can add your name to the wait list if you show up in person. Service was excellent, they filled our teacups so many times. Sushi is affordable and tasty, but definitely not the best sushi in Vancouver, like most of the reviews suggest. Prawn tempura: I recommend ordering this. The batter was nice and crispy. Hako aburi sushi: it had more of a gas taste rather than smoky taste. I recommend sticking to their regular sushi rolls rather than flame-seared. Oyster motoyaki: so disappointing. This dish is usually made with mayo, which is creamy after being baked, but Tom's sushi uses cheese instead. The cheese was dry and didn't compliment the oyster at all. read more

First time visiting Vancouver and was extremely excited to try this place out! The place is small but we went here during 2-3pm so the service was fast! I would be back here with friends when I comeback to visit! read more
Great tasting sushi in downtown Vancouver. There was almost an hour wait for our party of 3 on a Friday night, but it was well worth it. Ordered some nigiris and they were all delicious. My favorites were the Amaebi, Foie Gras, and Otoro. Fish was fresh. Sad they didn't have any Uni available :( We also had rolls but they were not as good as the nigiris. Simple modern decor with casual vibes. Staff was friendly and attentive. I would come here again read more

Had a long day at work and felt more like a Friday then Thursday night. After my workout with my girls, I decided to order UberEats and decided to order from Tom Sushi as heard that they were good. Decided on the Salmon Amaebi Zuke Donburi and was surprised that it came with the Amaebi shrimp heads deep fried served separately. Both the salmon and amaebi sashimi was marinated with a sweet sauce and instead of soy sauce, it came with a side of the sweet sauce. The donburi was a perfect portion and came with 8 slices of fresh salmon sashimi and 4 slices of amaebi sashimi. For $29, it's not bad for a splurge. Will definitely want to try more items from Tom Sushi and dine in-person in the future. read more
Easily one of the best meals we've had in Vancouver. The nigiri tasted as they should, fish had a clean flavor, great texture and paired well with the seasoned rice. Would definitely come back again. My MIL ordered the yakisoba and it was surprisingly also delicious! We came on a Wednesday for an early dinner at 4:30 and all the seats were full but we waited maybe 15-20 min and there were eight of us. Got seated separately but still worth it. The menu is extensive, there's something for everyone but the nigiri is where it's at. They don't take reservations, so come at off peak times. read more

I came for a day trip with friends and discovered this this place from a Vancouver foodie vlog and it did not disappoint! It was the perfect location to have the best of both worlds-- high quality sushi and katsu. For a group of four, we ordered our own nigiri and the the cheese loin katsu. The katsu can be it's own meal as it the portions are decent and come with one more extra bowl of rice and salad (for free!). Cheese was gooey and came out piping hot. My favorite nigiri pieces were the salmon belly and especially toro. And the salmon hako aburi was so smoky and flavorful -- I would get again 100%. The service was lovely, ambiance feels premium and reminiscent of a muji store. They serve you good green tea and the plating made my heart flutter. The wait on a Saturday night was about an hour but it flew by so it was ok but make sure to get there earlier if you can! If you/group can't decide whether you want sushi or katsu maybe turn to Tom sushi for the experience of both. read more
Visited Tom Sushi (finally) after seeing all the hyped reviews about this place! We went over the long weekend and the wait was over an hour during dinner time (no resos). Quite a small restaurant with just a few larger tables -- most of them were designed for 2 seaters. Luckily it's located at the heart of Davie Village so we were able to grab a coffee nearby while we waited for our table. TLDR: good quality but on the pricier side for what it is. We started with the momil soba ($12), which is a seasonal item. It felt like it was inspired by Korean cold noodles from the toppings (thinly sliced egg, cabbage, seaweed, etc.). It was super refreshing and perfect for the sunny weather. I loved that they added ice to the broth to keep it cold the entire time. Broth had a slight dashi flavour but wasn't too heavy. We then got the deluxe sushi combo ($31), with some nigiri add-ons (akami $7, toro $3.80, hamachi $4). All of the fish was fresh, rice was soft, but nothing really blew us away. Our favourites were the hamachi and negibluefin nigiri. For rolls, we got the chopped scallop roll ($6) and salmon jalapeno aburi ($12). The chopped scallop roll was pretty standard, with super crunchy cucumbers and nice textures from the scallops. The salmon jalapeno aburi was highly recommended from Yelp and online -- however, I thought that it was just okay. I've definitely had better salmon aburi in Vancouver (Green Leaf). Maybe it is just personal preference because the creamy mayo sauce seemed to overpower the salmon taste for me. Considering the cost/performance (and wait time), I gave it a 3/5 stars. I think Tom Sushi is a decent pick for sushi downtown, but I would not purposely drive down there to eat there as I feel like there are other places in the lower mainland that provide similar quality for sushi (if not better) for the same price. Nothing really blew us away or gave us that "wow" factor. read more
Make reservations if you want to eat here! As with most of the restaurants around Vancouver, we found that a lot of the highly talked about ones are very busy. We did not and were added to the waitlist and luckily had a seat due to a cancellation. We only wanted to try a few things and they were delicious! The bluefin sashimi was very buttery and melted in our mouths. The uni and foie gras nigiri were both also very buttery and delicious! I would definitely recommend the hako sushi! Overall a great experience! read more

Tom Sushi slaps harder than Lizzo doing a belly flop. Everything they serve is top quality. You can close your eyes and just point to anything on the menu and I can guarantee it will be delicious. The highlight though is the wild caught salmon. Get that sashimi or nigiri and it will knock your socks off. Service is great. Ambiance is great. It's a small restaurant, so you will most likely have to wait for a table. But worth it. read more
