I recommend this place, but if you're looking for fast and cheap, try some place else. They charge, but the work is excellent. I truly cannot recommend anybody above them and I don't say that lightly . My daughter is a student at IU and had a dead battery. She went to Tom Cherry and was quoted a huge price. I spoke with him on the phone and he was trying to sell her a premium battery, I told him no, we don't need the top of the line. When I hung up he started to tell my daughter that I was a b@tch and didn't know anything, he was the professional. She got the battery, went home and her car wouldn't start the next day. She was uncomfortable going back there after he spoke about me like he did. She was towed to another garage and was told Tom Cherry put the battery in wrong, they fixed that for free, but the tow was not. I don't know if he did that out of spite or is incompeten. The number one concern when looking for a mechanic is to find someone who is HONEST and FAIR. Look no further. Tom Cherry is under new ownership, and the new owners are absolutely fantastic! I took my 13 year old Ford Taurus to them for what I thought was brakes and sway bars. They did a thorough inspection and found a laundry list of issues with the car, which was not shocking since the car has over 200K miles. They quoted me what I thought was a fair price. After starting the work, they found some DANGEROUS issues with the car, so dangerous that they couldn't take it out for a test drive. I don't know car lingo, but after the repair they showed me one of the broken parts. Where there should have been a ball joint, but there was no ball. It was being held together by a piece of rubber. The tire could have fallen off at any time. There were a couple of other major issues, as well. They could have tried to hold me hostage financially because of the additional repairs, but they were very fair given the unexpected expenses. I would not hesitate to recommend this shop. It is so hard--especially for a woman--to find mechanics who won't take advantage of you. They spent almost a 1/2 hour explaining everything so thoroughly to me, and letting me know what next steps they recommended. There were a couple of repairs that they couldn't do simply because it was not something they had the equipment to do, and they graciously offered to recommend who they trusted to do the work. We ran into a deer and needed somebody to take a quick look at the underbody damage. We were able to get our car in quickly and they removed the damaged part of the underbody so it wasn't dragging all the way home. Moreover - they didn't even charge us. The heat shield of catalytic converter of my car fell off. I went there this morning and they used a clamp to hook it up. The whole process was no more than 15 minutes and I was charged $15. Reasonable price and quick service. I asked whether they do oil change. The person suggested me to do oil change elsewhere because it would be cheaper for my car. (I think they primarily do mufflers and the cost for their oil is more expensive than other chain stores.) I was surprised about his honesty. Good service, good people. read more

I have gone to Tom Cherry for years, but no more. My latest experience was not positive at all. The work installing a catalytic converter was shoddy and I had to go back because exhaust was leaking into the passenger compartment. I was charged an additional $100 to supposedly fix the problem, but they had stripped the threads on the manifold and stacked washers to try to patch. Additionally, I was told that it was oil leaking causing the smoke and not the manifold leaking. DUMB read more

I had my muffler replaced at Tom Cherry Muffler. I expected to have to drop it off and come back later on in the week, but they told me to just wait in the office (and they offered me coffee!), while they changed it. I literally watched my car getting repaired, it was great. They fixed only the muffler, even though I thought it was a different problem, and they could have charged me for both. I had a tricky repair done, salvaging my expensive exhaust system with an intricate, isolated fix. The fix lasted about a year and then failed. Here's where it gets good.
