Serious misrepresentation on the review stars here. Booked 2 hrs to change plugs on F150. After 1hr they came to me stating they broke the head off bolt on first coil pack. No penetrating oil used, no solutions presented, just we may have to take valve covers off and it's gonna take a lot more time. Can you give me a ride 5 miles to get another vehicle? NO. No solutions, no revised pricing, just "what do you want to do?" I'm thinking I want to get out of here as quickly as possible. What a waste of time for such a basic task. read more

These guys are great, honest mechanics. I've been going here for several years and recently thought I had a serious problem with one of my tires. They were able to get my car in several days earlier than initially estimated, and I had it back in time for the weekend! They couldn't find anything wrong with the tire, and we hypothesized that I'd briefly gotten something stuck which had later dislodged itself. Lloyd listened to everything that I'd mentioned that I wanted done to my vehicle, and he addressed each item. Along with the tire inspection/road test I got an oil change, and part of my front bumper attached more flush to the car, all for a very reasonable price! They've also given me great recommendations for work that they themselves could not do on my vehicle (for example, an exhaust issue last year). read more

My son's car broke down. Student at IU. Being 150 miles away, I was not looking forward to coordinating this repair. The CV Axle was broken in half and the car was undrivable. Contacted AutoChoice via Yelp and they were very responsive. Took me a week or two to get my son to respond and get it in there, but once we did, AutoChoice was all over it and got it done within hours at what I thought was an excellent price. I would recommend them to any IU parent. Only drawback is they are not super close to campus, but an honest mechanic is worth a little drive. read more

I came here again for an oil change. I got the same excellent service! They read my mind and rotated my tires. They also informed me of an oil leak that I have and let me know that it should be covered under the factory warranty since there are less than 60k miles on it. I learned recently that they charge a significantly higher rate for labor than other local repair shops. Also, they gave me a quote for a tuneup, and in the quote, they were going to charge me for labor to remove the plug wires AND the spark plugs, which is senseless because they have to remove the wires to get to the plugs. As of my review, that's where they are at, and that's hard to do. I've gone to them many times over the years, because they're reliable, knowledgable, and honest. They do their best to help you in a pinch, and they'll answer any questions or address any concerns you may have. Just today they updated me regarding an issue with a part. There are vehicles that sometimes have 4-5 variations of the same part, and our VW is one of them. As soon as they noticed, they made sure to track down the exact part and get it ordered. So far they've been able to handle any make and model of vehicle. I'm not surprised, given the years of experience there. These are good guys that deserve your business! I get very scared to take my car in for services because, as a young woman with no idea about car mechanics, I get taken advantage of living alone in Bloomington. I found this place on Yelp and booked my appointment. They were very time accommodating and nice to me. I explained to them my issues with car repair shops in the past and they assured me that I can trust them and I do. I just had a quick oil change and I was only there waiting for like an hour. Furthermore, the center locates at a place where you have to walk at least 20 mins to get to the closest public transportation/ coffee shop (both near Walmart). Honest Affordable Reliable That is what describes this Auto Repair center. AutoChoice is the best place for car repairs of all kinds in Bloomington. I went in with brake issues, transmission issues, and a slow Air conditioning link. They had feedback about each issue which they could fix, but instead off charging me a lot of $ to replace my transmission, they saved me replacement. I ended up only going with their recommendation for the brakes and my finances are better for it. And the car still works! It's best if you call to make an appointment to bring you car in. read more

If you're a woman do NOT go here! My neighbor recommended them but he's a guy who knows cars. I didn't know too much and they could tell. They tried to charge me $737 for all new rotors and break pads. I went and got a second opinion in another town because my grandfather told me that's way too high. The second mechanic came back and said my rotors were fine, showed me them, said he didn't think they even took my tires off to begin with, and it only cost me $267 to replace my break pads and clean things up. So either this place is incredibly sexist and or just takes advantage of anyone they think they could. Either way $737 for all new rotors and break pads? That's ridiculous. read more

They quoted thousands of dollars of work immediately which forced us to decide whether to repair or just buy another car. I read reviews for Autochoice on Yelp and decided to have it towed there for a second look. As soon as I called them, I felt reassured that we had done the right thing. Adam and Lloyd took the time to really look over the car and were very honest and straightforward with us about what the problems might be. In the end, they were able to repair the car for hundreds instead of thousands!!! AutoChoice Service Center Inc. Code of Ethics states: "To perform high quality repair service at a fair and just price. To service the vehicles in a timely manner and to keep the customer informed of any and all changes including completion times." I had an appointment for my 2005 Dodge Durango 4.7L on October 22nd at 9:00 AM. My car was having issues with stalling, the car would occasionally stall upon deceleration in first gear while coming to a complete stop. After dropping off my vehicle, I was told my car needed 2.5 hours of work, so my car would be ready Thursday, October 24th. The quote for the crankshaft cable was $268. The O2 sensor "which might solve the problem" would cost $210. So, I called on Thursday afternoon to see when my vehicle would be ready for pickup. I was informed that my car would not be ready until Friday October 25th. I received no phone call that they were late completing my car. I then called Friday to confirm my car would be ready, and they said "possibly." Ten minutes before I am supposed to pickup my car, I'm told that several crucial components of my car need to be replaced. Again, I received no phone call notifying me of the late work. I am told that my car will now be ready Tuesday, October 29th because they needed to order parts. This is now 4 full days of my car being in the shop. Later in the evening Friday, I received a call saying my vehicle is now ready. Were those parts delivered by the fairy Godmother herself? Below I added a picture of the belly of my car before dropping my car off. This shows the extremely obvious leak, AutoChoice just now found this leak after my car was in the shop 4 days? This suggests to me that AutoChoice did not even put my car on a lift until Friday afternoon because that oil leak is the first thing they would have seen when lifting the car. The first piece is the crankshaft seal, YourMechanic.com quotes $223.31. AutoChoice quoted $376.02 not including tax, that is $152.71 above the national average. The second part was the harmonic balancer. YourMechanic.com quotes $242.03. AutoChoice charged me $146.02 just for the part which is ridiculous because a harmonic balancer for my car is around $70 at most auto retail stores. AutoChoice combined the price of the 2 labor charges for the services described above which is strange. So, I was unable to determine the price for that particular service. When I picked up my car on Monday, October 28th, the work I had requested totaled $614.39. However, they quoted $2,209.99 of work, but I declined most of that. They just forgot about the crankshaft cable they told me needed to be replaced on Tuesday, because it was never mentioned again, nor was it even quoted in the bill. They ended up charging me $50 to remove a screw that is about 2 inches long that had a locked 10mm bolt on it. An absurd amount of money for a job that most likely took less than a half hour and required no parts, and the car didn't even have to be lifted off the ground to perform that work. When I finally received the car, the belt was squeaking, this indicates that they made a mistake in the replacement of the harmonic balancer. I took my car in on October 24, 2018, and my parking brake was malfunctioning. AutoChoice quoted $295.70 to replace the "Parking Brake Control Assembly." I did not bother having that repair done. Since I did not repair that part, when I took my car in on October 22, 2019, I was again quoted for the exact same piece. However, this time AutoChoice quoted that exact same work at $365.70. I DO NOT RECOMMEND AutoChoice Service Center Inc., they are not the fair and honest business they claim to be. They do not follow their Code of Ethics, they do not charge customers fairly, and they most certainly do not finish their work in a reasonable. I have taken my car here several times in the past few years. As of summer of 2019 it has been at their shop at lest 3-4 times due to an ongoing issue my car and animal damage under the hood. They took their time to repair the issue and when it kept happening again they fixed it again. They are friendly and professional and do what they can to fix your car and find the best price for the car (if they need to order it). Brought truck in for rubbing noise they overcharged for a rear break job over 800.00 and still had rubbing noise

So I tried Auto Choice after reading reviews here and other places on the web. I'll share my experience so others can also benefit. Trip one: Car started driving horribly and could not go over 30 mph. Take it to 3 different places in Bloomington, they all say 3 different things. Take it to Auto Choice. They charge around $100 to diagnose a check engine light (ridiculous, but everyone does it). Fix it. They're open after 5 so I can get there after work (++++++). Cost was fair, and they included an itemized receipt. Trip two: Two weeks later engine light comes on again. I take it back, apparently when my two of my cylinders were broken before, there was a lot of damage to my car. No charge for the diagnostic (better not be!), and they say there might be 2 problems, so they fix one thing hoping that will take care of it all. Trip three: A week later engine light comes on again. These guys got tired of seeing me. And I'll tell you, I was pretty sure they were taking my pretty butt for a ride. I took it to Autozone where they will diagnose your check engine light. (I didn't tell Auto Choice that I knew what was SUPPOSED to be wrong with it). They were honest. Ended up only charging me for parts the third time around. So anyway. It took a while to work out all the problems, but they were friendly and bent over backwards when everything kept happening with my car. I had my doubts, but the boys at Auto Choice came through. Especially Lloyd. Pros: Open til 6 on weekdays, open on Saturday morning. Itemized list on receipt. Don't treat you like an idiot, they take the time to explain everything. Friendly. Competent. Reasonable. Straight-forward. I needed to have a certain module removed from my car so that I could send it away for reprogramming (I'd lost my keys, and Saab's proprietary bullshit prevented an easy solution - LONG story, not really relevant to this review). Anyway, many of the auto shops in town actually refused to perform the simple service of removing the module, and replacing it when it came back. Something about not installing "client-supplied parts." When I asked Lloyd at Autochoice, he agreed to help me right away. He got the information he needed, we set an appointment, and he even recommended a cheap towing service (Chad's Towing). Suddenly, the problem was simple and could be solved. The guys were friendly and personable, and agreed to store my car while we waited for the part to come back. When the part arrived, it was installed in my car the same morning, AND they even fixed a brake light that had been out. And all for a reasonable price! read more

I've heard good things about Autochoice among the internets and decided to try them for my latest car disaster. The guys who run the place are really friendly, quick, and don't try to rip you off. They give you a computer generated itemized receipt with prices. I had a more car savvy friend look at it and the verdict was "fair". Also, while in the waiting room (where they actually had some womens mags AND let me have command of the remote control) I heard Loyd tell a girl that she should just buy a new car, which would be cheaper than the cost to fix her current one. They are located over on the Walmart side of town and the garage is a few minutes walk from a 3W bus stop. You can request an appointment over their website or just stop by. read more

Unfortunately I believed all of the great reviews. I'm not sure if they are inept or were scamming me. Either way, I was not happy. I have a jaguar xj8 vdp but was assured that they were comfortable working on it. It's basically a 20 year old car, just a car, but old jaguars have quirks. I took it in because after I installed a new starter, it wouldn't turn over. Working alone, I hadn't noticed that the alternator had seized. I do feel like an idiot for that. I also provided a part load breather hose and a crankshaft sensor that I wanted replaced while it was in the shop, so I didn't have to deal with them. They did quickly catch the alternator. They were also able to remove the crankshaft position sensor, which was in a horrible location that I couldn't get to well. I'll give them that. If they proceeded from there, to a logical course of action, I would have been ecstatic. Unfortunately they did not. After they removed the crankshaft sensor, they noticed that the wire needed to be replaced. Both the wire and the connector were just a big ball of electrical tape from a previous owner, so I was suspect that this could contribute to a intermittent starting problem that I had, before the starter died. They did order it for me, for $150, but never installed it. The original wire had a cut in the wire, a singe mark from a short I guess, and the terminals in the connector itself were melted. It may still have been functional, but should have been immediately replaced, not only for function, but safety as well. So after a new $500 alternator, that you can get online for $125, new plugs, even though mine were less than 6 months old, and r&r of the crankshaft sensor, the cat would still not start. They called and asked permission to do a compression check. They tested a cylinder on each side, and were getting 10 and 45 pounds of pressure. Bad, horrible results. They said that it would need a piston and a timing chain, which would be $1600 more just in labor. I again stated that the car had been sitting for 2 months. I'm physically disabled without one knee, a bunch of herniated and ruptured discs, and a lot of nerve damage in my back. I simply could not work on it myself, for any given length of time, due to the cold and pain. I couldn't understand how a piston and a timing chain broke while sitting in my driveway. The engine itself was replaced 3 years ago and only has around 50k on it. The timing chains were upgraded to top of the line ones 2.5 years ago. I asked if they had done a bore wash, they said that they had. A bore wash is where you add a tsp of oil to each cylinder, and without the plugs in, you crank the starter to get the oil to cover the walls. The car had been sitting and not running for 2.5 months at this point. The cylinders would be dry. Without oil covering the cylinders, you don't get a seal and thus, no compression. I also asked about testing the idle air controller, which could also result in low compression. I asked them to not do anything further, until I had a night to think about it, if their scenario was at all plausible, and if so, could I possibly borrow enough money to go further. I decided to go over the next morning to see my cat, and hear it turning over. Also, there is a peculiar way to start these 4.0 v8s that jaguar used, after a bore wash, which involves flooring it, to shut off fuel, and cranking for 10 seconds, and repeating. This makes sure the oil makes a good seal and builds compression. After 5 times, you continue to turn the key while floored, but slowly release the accelerator. The first guy greeted me and was pleasant. When I asked to go see my car, and explain the procedure that I wanted to do, he said that he had to get someone else. This repeated, with me explaining every time, until there were 5 or 6 mechanics in their lobby. I was admittedly getting annoyed by then. The last mechanic stated that he had already done the bore wash and this peculiar process. And, I was not allowed on the shop floor. I left feeling dismissed, that my suggestions were just bs, since I wasn't a mechanic. Also, I didn't like not being able to see my car. After a couple hours of being in a foul mood, I called the shop and asked for a total bill, to throw all the parts in the trunk, and have it ready to be towed back home. When I got her back home, I was surprised that the part load breather hose had not been replaced. One of the original things that I wanted done. I had also paid for this. They did warn me that the crankshaft sensor wires had not been replaced, but oddly, I was charged for it. They did state they would connect it for me at a later date, if I desired. There was NO serpentine! Tests could not be done nor started without belt. I spent yesterday putting it back together, & with bore wash & odd process, car STARTED. Stay away from these guys! read more

This is such a great place. They were all so kind to me and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of, which I normally do when working with mechanics. They explained every issue there was with my car in detail and explained the different options I had on getting them fixed. My car had so many problems they said they would recommend not putting any money into it when they very easily could have told me to get something fixed so they could make money off of it. And after they looked at my car they didn't charge me for a diagnostic because they wanted to give me some "good news" instead of only things that were wrong with my car. read more

When the battery light in my truck came on I went on yelp and looked for the shop with the highest reviews in the area. The more reviews the better. After reading reviews of multiple businesses, I went over the negative reviews to make sure they weren't assigning "one star" for silly reasons. Many of them were. Many seemed legit. In the end the strongest reviews led me to AutoChoice. I told them on the phone the battery was dead and when I attempted to drive it to the shop, even though it's a manual transmission, the engine stopped pulling in all gears. They said it could be the alternator but might also involve the transmission. After a tow truck dropped it off, they looked at my truck and confirmed the 18 year old alternator needed replacing. I searched alternator replacement for my truck year and model and their price was right at the bottom end, the less expensive range. I was surprised how fair it was. I gave them the go-ahead to do the work and they told me it would take two days to get the alternator in, install it, and test the transmission. After only 24 hours they called me and told me the work was done, the transmission was fine, and I could come and pick it up right then and there. Very good news. Done a day early and they did not try to sell me any extra work. Glad to have found what looks to be a reliable shop with excellent prices. read more

We took my daughter's Toyota RAV4 to this location with what we thought was a transmission problem. "Jerry" is the mechanic who was assigned to our car and he was quite simply, outstanding! Jerry was excellent at communicating with us each step he took to diagnose and eventually repair what turned out to be a wiring/electronic issue that was causing our problems. I cannot give Jerry high enough marks for his communications, customer service, honesty and mechanical ability. I am out of state and my daughter attends IU. Jerry treated our repair as if it was his own daughter's car and I very much appreciate his and AutoChoice's fine service. My daughter who is attending IU had her car break down and so I had it towed to AutoChoice. Since I live 1 1/2 hours away and this my first time taking a vehicle here, I was obviously a little leery. Her vehicle has over 160,000 miles on it so they problem could have been many expensive issues. But the repair was only $77!
