This is my first visit to Grease Monkey in many years. With Jiffy Lube under new ownership, and other places either offering questionable service or seemingly changing owners every few years, I wanted to go with a place that has been around here as long as I have and has a good reputation. I drove my car roughly to the area where I thought they took them in and went inside. The guy was very nice and took my info, but also asked me if I wanted to share it, meaning I could opt out if I wanted to. I asked if they had differing levels of oil changes. They do, and I got the lower end package. They still checked fluids, bulbs, and other things. They will offer to replace, but some of it is pricey. Some bulbs are very difficult and would be worth having them replace, others are just simply pulling out the connector and replacing the bulb. The waiting room is a bit small, but the wait was actually very short. All three bays were full when I arrived with 2 cars waiting. I think I expected to be there longer. When they were done they gave me a rundown of everything they found. All was OK, except for a few bulbs that they recommended replacing. They aired up my tires, and even had covers for the stems that were missing them. (Thanks to the last place where they checked the tires and didn't replace any.) It reminded me of my old experiences at Jiffy Lube. They highlighted one issue that could have been serious. The guy mentioned my car was a little slow to turn over. I had noticed that and wrote it off to the weather. He suggested I get my battery checked. I did, and found out there was a lot of corrosion that had been hiding under the battery cover. This was absolutely starting to cause problems! I appreciate his noting that! HIGHLY recommend this place. Friendly and thorough. That's tougher to find these days. I'll be back! read more

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend on ethical standards. They suggested that I had an oil leak. Turns out they spilled oil in my engine cavity, trying to cover their mistake. It cost me $140. to discover this lie. read more

I've been going here for years. They were busy yesterday but still went over what they checked in a non rushed manner, cleaned my filmy inside windshield, vacuumed better than ever before. They made suggestions to people but were not pushy and did exactly what they requested. They are friendly, helpful, and quick. read more

I love this place, they are very quick, have a nice waiting area that is always clean with magazines if you don't have anything to do. They always come out and let you know if anything needs done so you can approve and don't give you grief if you don't do it. A strong warning: negotiate the price of your services before indicating anything. I was charged over $90 for an oil change that should have cost much less. Here's how it went: Attendant: Oil change? Stopped in for oils change . Told them not to check air or cabin filter. Came out and said needed new cabin filter after being directed NOT to check. When they replaced it shoved dirt into the blower. Had to stop at Marathon. To pay to have blower removed and cleaned. Would not recommend these clowns for anything . I have been a customer of this Grease Monkey for over 20 years. I think they have only had 2 owners. It's almost always a good experience. I want to mention a favor they did for me a few years ago. They mentioned damage to my vehicle. It just so happened that my vehicle had been recently "serviced" at a dealership in that location. GM was pretty sure the damage was associated with the dealership. They provided testimony that lead to the dealership performing extensive repair to correct what they broke and the work they didn't actually do. Yes, highly recommend this location for basic maintenance. If you see a line come back. I would not call them slow but they usually only have 2 bays working. read more

As far as the oil change goes, everything was good. I've visited here one other time had a positive experience and felt that I was charged fairly--this time was not the case. It was busy, so I'm not sure if the manager was just stressed out, but he was very impolite to me. I have an old junker car, I know this. It's almost at 300,000 miles. It has many parts that are on their last leg. I also know this, BUT he still felt the need to inform me that my car was junk. He was telling me that one of my tires had a bubble in it, but just HAD to throw in, "....Among the many, many other things that are wrong with it." Thanks for making me feel bad about not having the money to constantly repair my car. Then, he goes on to reprimand me about the bubble in my tire and acts as though I was irresponsible for not noticing it. While I appreciated the heads up and I'll be replacing it with a spare, I did not appreciated being talked to as though I'm terrible for not having caught it. To top it all off, I could see into the shop and it was pretty obvious that some of the staff were getting a good laugh at my car for its worse for wear body and that fact it's messy in the back seat (I was planning on cleaning it this weekend). Just because my car is worse for wear does not mean I should be treated poorly. I went home crying and will not return to this business anytime soon. read more

Great experience. Service was fast and reasonably priced (not the cheapest but not exorbitant either) and the greatest thing was that they didn't treat me like I was a total idiot or try to rip me off just because I'm a woman. Ladies, you know what I mean, and how annoying it is to have to bring a dude with you to add an air of authority even though he doesn't know any more than you and it's your car. Today I didn't have my husband around so I was frankly readying myself for the usual patronizing attitudes. I suspected the engine air filter needed changing and asked the guy at the counter about it (would have done it myself to save a few bucks, one of the few car things I can do, but didn't remember in time) but he double checked with the mechanic then confirmed to me that they had checked and it was all fine, when he could have completely taken advantage of me. He even told me how to do one small repair myself when it couldn't be taken care of in the shop. It's nice and rare to find a mechanic that doesn't overcharge and doesn't treat you like an idiot just because you're a girl. I went there for a oil change recently. I was very impressed! It was walk-in and so fast I could have done it easily on my lunch break and they seemed friendly and honest. You could probably find a cheaper place to get your oil changed, but it would likely not be this fast or full service. This place has so many workers just standing around that there should be no room for error, especially with their $50 oil change which turns into $75 if you need a filter. They changed my oil and I left for two weeks after parking my car. I come back and notice the opening for the oil change under the car is hanging open by one screw. Now, there are two things besides children that drain our bank accounts, our cars and our homes. If I pay you to do a simple oil change I would expect you do it right and not have the customer paying for repairs they cause by not doing the job right or having to take time to go back to where I trusted they would do the job right the first time. I got no apology or anything. I'm tired of calling useless managers that don't realize certain ppl are a detriment to excellent customer service standards. They have just a bunch of young white ppl doing a half ass job as usual. This owner should take more pride in who they hire, having more expectations for staff. They did not meet my standards, I'd rather go to Meineke, and they scare me to death with their crappy unskilled technicians that break something every time they touch your car. Based on recommendations from friends, I have been taking my vehicles to Grease Monkey since moving to Bloomington in 2009. A few months back I told them that I had a squeaking serpentine belt and asked them to change it. They claimed to do it, charged me for it and I was on my way. With a still squeaking belt. I naively hoped that this was normal for a new belt and let it be. Jump ahead a few months to a visit to Meineke. The service tech, upon hearing me explain my sudden loss of power stearing, shows me the rotted serpentine belt on my engine with the Kia factory stamp on it. Yeah. I've interacted with multiple employees, including the owner, and everyone is always very friendly and honest. Accepted walk-ins, were super friendly, and there were several people in front of me and they were serviced quite fast. They even did a few small odd and end things such as washed down the windows, replaced and filled all fluids, and were even trying to reset my BMW's caution signs that are displayed in the onboard trip computer. I was referred to this place by a neighbor--I am glad i went there, affordable, quick,courteous and HONEST!. they use quality oil and yet charged me 1/2 of what my dealership charges me. Showed me my filters and even said they're not that dirty,and this much dust is typical, and its upto me if I want it replaced--They dont pressure you into buying or replacing anything, check things out and let you know how much life it has. They forgot to mention about my tail-lights, and as I drove away , Amy the nice lady at the counter, came out to tell me about it, and when I wanted it replaced, they replaced 2 of my lights and didnt even charge me, due to the additional delay. This company always seems to go above and beyond for its customers. Today, my car did not start after sitting for a few days and they told me to bring it on by for a test of the battery. I was in and out in just a few minutes and they were very honest, stating that I could either take care of the battery right away or wait a few weeks on it since it wasn't urgent.
