Dear Management, being somewhat of a regular, in not only the local ramen scene, but more importantly Tokio itself. I am sad to say that tonight marks the third time, that's right, THE THIRD TIME, that I have physically walked into the location only to be treated rudely by your new front door staff. I've frequented TOKIO at least twice a week for the last several years and have always made SURE to bring any and all visiting family/friends, colleagues, and pretty much anyone willing to grab a late night bowl of ramen to try this amazing place. Being a fairly tall guy sometimes you need a little more than just counter space, if that's all that's available and tables are sat, I get it, but when you tell me that I can't sit at a table for two (or four for that matter) because I'm by myself or with one person when it's CLEARLY open... is just unacceptable! The kitchen staff is nothing short of stunning, and the food is even more impressive. Everything from the kara age, creamoso diablo, the off the menu Hamachi Kama (when available), & my personal favorite Chefs Omakase have had me filling my stomach and gladly emptying my wallet for the last few years, a def DO NOT MISS for ramen. But Please.... do something about the way the hostess is talking to people, I understand her position as I work in the industry, HOWEVER, to take that tone with a customer SIMPLY because there requesting a larger table that is clearly available.... is just bad business read more

This is our go-to sushi and Ramen spot. The specialty sushi rolls while pricey, are big and delicious. The combinations are tasty and the fish quality is good. Also, I am especially a fan of the Cremoso Diablo Ramen. It has a creamy yet spicy texture that I have yet to find in other ramens. Service is typically good and the food is consistent across our multiple visits. I've found Tokio is a solid choice for sushi & ramen. read more

Food is AMAZING. Made reservation that I got an email confirmation for. Showed up with "nothing in the book" for my reservation. Showed him the confirmation email, he seemed flustered and still told me there was 2 groups ahead of me. Waited for over an hour past reservation time before we were seated. Call in advance in you do the online reservations to make sure it was received even if you get the confirmation email. Thank God the food is well worth the wait. read more

IF you can't handle the heat - than stay outta the kitchen! Flew into DIA at 7pm and placed an order for 2 ramens to go....I was told it will take about 30-45 mins.. I said perfect! Showed up at 8 to get the run around and be told that he's gonna have to give me a dinner voucher. They haven't even began preparing it...No Ninja!!! where's my dinner?!? I don't want an IOU. I don't want a voucher! Its ramen.. either you have the broth prepared or not... and apparently not so tell me you're sold out for the night. Finally! I have been in Denver since June 2017, and have since tried 7 other restaurants, looking for great, authentic ramen. I was so happy to come here that not only do they have a rich, fatty, creamy, tonkotsu broth, but the noodles also taste and feel (texture) homemade. I think it says a lot about a ramen restaurant if they have a tonkotsu broth, as it takes a great deal of time and effort to make. I also like that they have an actual ramen egg. Other places in Denver cheat with a soft-boiled egg. I would, of course, love if Tokio were open during the lunch hours, but being able to get late night ramen is definitely a plus! I have visited three times and brought back friends to have them see what ramen should taste like. The only thing that is stopping me from giving this place five stars is the sushi. I think it's decent, but not outstanding. Other notes: The atmosphere is adorable, quaint and upscale without feeling too fancy. They play great music and the service is excellent. Vibe and mood: 10 If you like quiet and low key, but an upscale setting this is the place for you. I enjoy the electronic music they play, it keep it upbeat and cool. At least try to get in for happy hour with a hungry stomach! Their selection for happy hour is really nice. I should have reviewed Tokio much sooner. I've been a fan ever since Miki Hashimoto opened the place in the shadow of Coors Field.Hashimoto-san sold off his previous restaurant, Japon, and studied ramen in Tokyo before returning to Denver and opening Tokio. He's tweaked his broth ever since, and improved on it. His Tonkotsu is awesome, and I've also enjoyed other bowls like Abura Soba (similar to Hiyashi Chuka Soba at some other restaurants), Curry, Shio and Miso. I even like his trendy but shockingly delicious Cremoso Diablo, a cheese ramen. The sushi is fresh and well-made, and the small plate dishes and the (unique for Denver) Bincotan for grilled meats and veggies is fabulous. It's all highly recommended! read more

Congratulations! You found this place! When we made our trip down here, the entire area was under construction and surround by the skeletal start of apartment complexes. Setting aside the fear of parking in five points amid a darken construction site, we raced inside. Ok maybe I'm the only person led astray by this, and it's totally my fault, but when someone talks up awesome noodle soup, I think PHO! Ramen, is not Pho. It is not pho made with ramen noodles. Pho and ramen are nothing alike. This was bitterly disappointing to find out. Again, my bad. I know. But... Come on.. Who doesn't love pho?! So with that unfair biased chiseled in my brain, I got my ramen - which again, not pho. The service was amazing! The appetizers were amazing! The ramen... Was not pho. This place was outstanding and the owner, Miki Hashimoto even came to our table and met with us. We were treated with amazing hospitality. I want to start this review off by saying I live next-door so this place is very convenient for me. I absolutely love love love the happy hour at this place I mean three dollar sushi rolls you just can't beat; honestly really really good sushi as well. This place is AMAZING. I definitely think it's one of the most underrated Denver restaurants. The vibe of the restaurant is great, love the decor. The ramen is incredible, my boyfriend is not a ramen/pho fan but after I introduced him to the Cremoso Diablo ramen bowl, he was HOOKED. In the past 7 months since we've moved to Denver we've been to Tokio over 30 times, there was a point when we'd go multiple times a week. The whole staff recognizes us when we walk in. We always get the Cremoso Diablo, we switch up the sushi rolls every time but it's always really good (coming from Florida I think that says a lot!) and we always end our meal with the green tea mochi. The only downfall I've noticed is with the edamame, I LOVE edamame but it's usually hit or miss from here. Half the time we order it it comes with the spiced togarashi salt, and half of the time it comes with only plain salt and no spice; it's also came out undercooked two times we've ordered it, which is no fun when it comes to edamame. The service is so great the food is incredible and you're in and out in under an hour! They also usually have seating available on Friday and Saturday nights without a reservation (although I always recommend calling ahead) and they're opened late night every night! I would definitely say this is in our top 3 favorite restaurants in Denver, we bring everyone that visits from out of town here and they always love it as much as we do. *SKIP THIS PLACE. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. *Friday's night and the restaurant is not full or even close to full. That might say a thing or two already. *Service: "greeted" by a server with green hair who didn't even look at us. Seated by a green hair hostess who filled our water and said our server will be over. About 3-4 servers passed by without noticing us. I asked one of the servers who served the table next to us who was suppose to be our server, she didn't answer, just said she could take our order. The ONE star is coming from the food didn't take too long but that was it. *Food: we ordered the caterpillar roll and the tonkatsu ramens. The roll was mainly made out of rice and avocado, can't really taste the eel. The eel sauce on top was way too salty. The ramen, which they claim to be their "most authentic bowl of ramen in Denver" was a joke. When you see thick slices of carrots in your ramen, it cannot be authentic. The broth was 'fatty', like my lips was sticky after eating it. The cha-Su pork was anything but cha-Su pork, the slides were improperly cut(chunky and not thinly sliced). They also did not carry any favor like cha-Su pork should. Overall, food did not exceed the ONE STAR I'm giving this place. The bottom line is if you travel out of your way to try this place because of the reviews on Yelp (like I did) then save your time/money and try a different place. read more

Absolutely can't buy sushi anywhere else but here. I feel like I'm abusing myself when I buy salmon sashimi elsewhere. It's like butter. It's pricey, but it's so good. The masago and spider roll are also my favorite here. I love many of the other small plates, and the ramen. But I really just want to emphasize how much I love the sushi here. I decided to eat tonight after a long drive in town. Boy...these people are amazing. Seriously, Nick the manager welcomed me; made me WELCOME, helped me with an order. Natalie, my waitress was one gracious young woman who LISTENS to you when you converse with her. She does not interrupt and she has vocabulary; that means, she was very attentive and engaging. My food was glorious. I had their Cremoso Diablo and it was a real treat. It was a good size, fillings and gratifying. My glass never went low; Natalie would fill it up so consistently. Hospitality is their stronger arm. Their other strength is the ambiance of the place. It was very comfortable and clean. Their restrooms are tidy and fresh. Does not worth the price. The price is almost the same as Sushi Den and Izakaya Den, but Tokio became a less and less authentic Japanese restaurant. You can tell from the cheap disposable chopsticks, reduced sodium soy sauce (not even the kind of soy sauce for sushi), that there's no Japanese chef in the kitchen, the rice part of Nigiri was so loose and easy to fall apart, the noodle used in ramen was also changed...I used to like this place but probably would not recommend it to my friends any more. read more

I've been in twice, the first time with my boyfriend. We thought the ramen was pretty good though we didn't have great service, but I thought I would give it another try. I recently came in to eat by myself and was sat at the sushi bar. The hostess was great and brought me water immediately. But after I sat down, I waited for 10-15 minutes for someone to acknowledge me and nothing, so I got up and left. Hubby and I were looking for a late night place and stumbled upon Tokio. Atmosphere is simplistic at most considering it's downtown. Food was flavorful but not consistent in quality. We ordered the following: Karaage - probably the best thing that we ordered. Flavor was just right but it looked like the chef didn't know how to fry because there were slits in the karaage as if the chef cut it open to see if it was cooked all the way. Nevertheless delicious. Berkshire Pork Bincyotan - our least favorite... dry and not much flavor. Tonkotsu Ramen - broth was pretty good but the carrots threw me off. Chashu was not tender and probably needed a couple more hours to cook... had the strong pork smell which means the chef just didn't care much to prep the meat right. Katsu Curry with Pork - huge portion of rice and curry. Again, the chef must be new because you could see that the cut side of the pieces of pork cutlet were dry... it was a totally different color from the actual meat inside. Looks like the chef cut the tonkatsu, saw that it was undercooked and tossed the cut pieces back in the fryer. Curry itself was decent. Docked 1 star for the food and 1 star for service. The girl serving us was very friendly & cute but seemed a bit absent-minded. We ordered karaage & the berkshire pork first but she came back and asked if we ordered gyoza. Then we ordered the tonKOTsu ramen and tonKATsu curry. She came back and asked if we wanted the katsu ramen with pork and we told her "NO" we want the katsu curry with pork and the tonKOTsu ramen and even point it out for her on the menu. Lo & behold, she brings the katsu ramen with pork for my hubby. We told her we wanted the katsu curry with rice and she argues that the katsu curry comes with rice or noodles and we ordered what she brought. Later, she finally brings out the right order but with no apologies. When she brings our check, she points out that the katsu curry ramen is the same as the katsu curry rice we ordered... so this means she DID put in the wrong order. Lastly, we paid cash and she shorted us the change... it's only a couple cents but really??? We left her 20% with whatever she shorted us but wow... I'm speechless after everything. I was impressed with the food at Tokio. I arrived for happy hour so I started off with sushi: hamachi sashimi, spicy scallop, 2 pieces of maguro. All tasty and fresh. For dinner I had 1 chicken thigh yakitori skewer and curry rice with chicken. The meat was tender and flavors were just right. I usually don't order chicken curry, so I didn't have anything to compare it to- but I liked it. It was also a plus that they stayed open late. I'll be back when I'm in town again. We called ahead and they said they had done-in available at 9:30. We asked if there's anyway to get in sooner. The host said he would put us on the waiting list. We arrived in about 15 minutes. He said the table wasn't ready yet. It had to be cleaned, so give him 10 minutes and he would call us. We waited for 40 minutes, walking back in at 9:30. He says there are no tables available. We explained he told us there were tables at 9:30, and he put us on a list that should have gotten us a table at 9:00 (once the table was cleaned). He didn't offer any way to make it right. I'm very upset with our experience. We drove 20 minutes and waited 40 minutes to never get a table that we were promised. I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service. read more

We were in the neighborhood and decided to try this place out. A friend on FB raved about this place. Diablo sushi was yummy, gyozo were good, not impressed by the bacon wrapped scallops(over cooked), the diablo ramen was wonderful. We ordered a few skewers (tasted too salty), ramen (noodle was too hard, not cooked enough), and sushi (which they sent to the wrong table and we ended up waiting for 40 mins for nothing, so we had to cancel our orders). After they realized the mistake, we didn't receive sincere apologies, but kind of ignorance, both waitresses were kind of arrogant.
