The sign outside this restaurant is really not inviting at all--I've passed it a few times and just kept driving. But I finally made reservations last night, and once inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the nice decor and ambiance. We ordered a drink from that bar, which was good, and then headed upstairs for dinner. I ordered a medium-rare bone-in filet, and it was cooked to perfection and delivered on a piping-hot plate, which is how I like it. The sides were also very good and I was taken aback about this whole experience in Basking Ridge/Bernardsville since I've never had a dinner this good in the area. The waiter came by and inquired about how everything was and I said "Great" and then took it back because "great" means nothing. I told him that it was "maybe" one of the best dinners I've experienced in the area--nuff said. I'll be back with more friends next time. Keep up the good work and do something about (get rid of or update) that awful sign outside. read more

Nice place with a lot of character, but I won't be back. I'm a big fan of Mexican inspired food which is what Toca Vez mentions on their website. But they are predominantly a steak house so don't go there if you have interest in their "authentic Mexican dishes that are sustainably sourced", as claimed online. The day I was there, the only "Entree'" on the menu was a "Special" Chicken Enchilada which did not live up to the price tag. Although they DO have several Mexican-styled APPS that were OK available. The menu stated my special was to include a Poblano pepper as well & what I received was a Jalapeno that still had the skin on it unlike how a Poblano is supposed to be served. The place is very loud but the service is quite good from waitresses that at times seemed nervous or scared, but it was a bit busy. I was super excited to come to this restaurant for the first time since I heard it newly opened and it had great reviews. Came here with about six of my friends and the food was delicious. The drinks were delicious and the customer Service was great as well. The only thing that they need to work on would be the outside valet situation. I waited in line to have my car parked and noticed the valet was not being attentive at all. I then politely waved for him to come over. he came over to me and rudely said "what's up?" As if we knew each other lol. I thought that was a very odd greeting. I then responded with "can you please park my car?" He then proceeded to ask me if I had a reservation. Again very odd. Why would I need to tell a valet whether or not I have a reservation? That's the hostesses job! Would he not be willing to park my car if I was going inside to sit at the bar? This valet's lack of professionalism was very off putting. I would recommend that the manager, or the restaurant owners train their valets to be a bit more professional when speaking to patrons. To be clear we are not your friends. We are not your family. We are paying customers and should be treated accordingly. A very nice addition to the dining scene, one can see that Toca Vez wants its patrons to have a wonderful experience. First off, we loved the complimentary valet parking, a nice touch. The decor is masterful, and sets a very chic mood. Diners are smartly dressed and there is definitely a buzz helping to create the vibe. My martini was generous, and my wife enjoyed her drink. We very much enjoyed the chips and salsa along with the oysters we ordered as an appetizer. Our steaks, the ribeye for me and the filet for my wife, were delicious. Tip: Try the street corn side dish, served off the cob makes it easy to share and eat. It was our favorite of the sides we had. The Tres Leches cake for dessert was scrumptious. I have been here twice and have had equally mixed reviews both times . First time - we were rushed through our meals . Serving entrees when appetizers were still on the table . Appetizers were good - entrees were fair at best . Second time - we were not rushed - place was packed - servers were overwhelmed . We were flagging down our waitress for drinks / water . Appetizers were good - entrees were not good . 3 people at the table shared an overdone fatty tomahawk that was supposed to be medium rare . The shrimp risotto entree had ZERO flavor and the salmon entree was equally unimpressive . They need more staff and training and some help with entrees . read more

We had a large group and all of the food was average with the exception of the steaks. If you want good steak in NJ this is not the place. Every steak that comes out of the kitchen at this price point should be checked by the head chef or expeditor. Serving a raw steak is unacceptable. read more

Interesting concept. Mexican food and steakhouse. Both done well. We had the tuna tostado which was good. Lobster quesadilla which was also good. Could have been great but they skimped on the lobster a bit. Grilled octopus was also good. For entrees we split the special tomahawk. It was solid. Not quite great. And quite honestly overpriced as we can get better ribeye at Wolfgang's for less. But still it was good. Our party also had the special enchilada which was very tasty. For dessert we split the cookie for two and the churros. Both again good. The cocktail menu is awesome and large. Service was amazing. We were there for 2.5 hours and they didn't rush us at all. First time visit last Saturday for an 8pm reservation. Decor is very sharp and attractive with unusual touches (noticed by my better half, not me :) ) We were sent upstairs to wait for our table, it was ready before we even had time to order a drink. We sat upstairs and this was a blessing because the noise level on the ground floor was deafening. Service was excellent throughout the meal. Our waitress (Anna) got everything right and food came out promptly and it was delicious...we had scallops and sea bass. Prices are reasonable and drinks (wine with dinner, by the glass) were a good "pour". Management has certainly got this place humming and we'll be back...maybe with ear plugs :) read more

I found the place to be very nice but not over the top like I was expecting. We sat on the upper level where the tables were layed out so only one person could see anything as my back was to everyone else in the restaurant. We started with the tuna tostada which was excellent and would highly recommend. The big disappointment was the steak we ordered. It was a beautiful piece of meat however it was way overcooked for med rare being closer to med well. My wife did not finish her steak. For all the hype and the price I expect better. I love Three Oaks in Easton PA and assumed the steaks would be flawless here too. The service was exceptional and very attentive to our needs. We usually go to three oak in Easton and decided to come here and give it a try. Did not disappoint! The tomahawk steak was out of this world. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, modern and inviting! Between both floors there appears to be a variety of spaces which accommodate families vs. couples vs. large parties. For our Sunday evening reservation, we were welcomed upon arrival (which was about 20 min. prior to reservation time) and were immediately escorted to our table upstairs. The cocktail/wine menu is a great touch and first impression! We ordered drinks which we both enjoyed. For food, we had the bacon and queso (2 appetizers which together were wonderful; however, we agreed, if we ordered them separately they would be slightly underwhelming). For entrees we had the short rib and scallops with a side of brussels sprouts. Overall, the entrees were very good (though we both agreed was under seasoned). We would probably leave the brussels sprouts off next time since the entrees came with a starch and was plenty. We shared the tres leches for dessert which was very good, well presented and a nice finishing touch. I'm going with a 4 (which is more of a 3.5) since the service was accommodating and friendly, yet still a bit unrefined for a restaurant of this price-quality point. One server, Audrey, was extremely attentive to details and the type of service befitting a restaurant of this price-point; others seemed a bit nonchalant. All the food servers were nice and we were visited by a manager who checked in. Before gratuity, our bill was $200.00 for both of us which included 2 drinks, apps, entrees, 1 side, and a shared dessert. On a side, less important note, we visited Toca Vez for a birthday dinner which was indicated on the reservation and verified on the day of; however, no staff member ever acknowledged it. We were so excited to try this new place out. There were four of us and we are all very adventurous when it comes to food. Needless to say, we saw the nightly crowds and were expecting a great food experience. This was the most disappointing dinner we have had in a long time. We ordered appetizers. The guacamole had no flavor. We all ordered their specialty enchiladas. Once again, bland enchiladas, the rice was hard (probably sitting out) and the beans lacked flavor. Taco Bell has more flavor! This is not an inexpensive place and they should know how to cook the simplest of Mexican food. From the moment we arrived at Toca Vez everything was perfection! From the complimentary valet service to the warm greeting at the hostess station to the outstanding service in the dining room to the flavorful food. It was our first time there but we were treated like VIPs. We had 5 different people servicing our table: the lead server and her support staff. Every one of them were working to ensure we had great service. The bottled water, cocktails, fresh bread with honey butter, all arrived promptly. The rest of the dinner service was perfectly timed. The head of operations (one of the partners) stopped by to ask how everything was going. Very impressive. For the food, we enjoyed the very fresh oysters and Caesar salad as our first course. For entrees we had the out-of-this-world-delicious short rib and mushroom enchiladas which were served with a perfectly cooked cilantro lime rice and melt in your mouth refried beans. The enchiladas were a "wow" dish. Every bite was a treat. We will order it next time we go. We also had the ribeye steak which was cooked at a perfect medium rare as per our request. It was well seasoned and was very tender. Our sides were the creamed spinach which was probably the best I've ever had. The seasoned breadcrumbs helped give it a rich texture and flavor. The sautéed mushrooms and onions complimented the steak nicely. We enjoyed some wine from the excellent wine selection. I'd rate this higher than a 10 (out of 10) if I could! Im giving a four star rating because we only had drinks, so I can't speak to the food... Stopped in on a Friday night. Parking is valet only (feels a little excessive for Bville). We had to wait in a line of cars backed up into 202 for over 5 minutes before an employee let us know we could self park. The ambience is fun and the back patio with fire pits was great. Unfortunately the drinks fell flat. I ordered a margarita and the ratio was completely off (lots of Cointreau and little lime). For $14, it was disappointing and I didn't finish it. It feels like of any menu item, they should really have their margarita down. Will give it another try sometime and have their food. read more

Came here at 8pm on a Friday night. The drinks were tasty and love the variety of cocktails and ingredients. We got the chicken tacos and queso to start. Both were satisfying and offered that salty crunch I wanted for dinner. Next we had scallops, ribeye and street corn. All were well prepared. The scallops were a bit fishy and only got 4 for $40. The risotto that came with the scallops was sweet and creamy and paired nicely with the dish. The restaurant is definitely a vibe but overpriced and you have to get valet. read more
