Be warned that they do not serve food midday as they transition from their brunch to dinner menu! (Brunch ends at 3:45). Most of my party came super late but we were still seated (one of us checked in on time) and receive great service. Our waiter was super knowledgable about the menu which is always a plus. The food was delicious!! I ordered the breakfast sandwhich with curly fries and it was so good. My entire table loved my fries lol and they liked their food too. This location is something special. The decor was a 10, ambiance a 10, and food was also a 9 out of 10 as well. Drinks were really good, bottle of Prosecco was only $72, and the cocktails list had some crazy selections. Only issue was the server trying to rush us out. In full transparency my first Toca experience was not a great one, but the GM was able to turn things around and Toca has been my second home ever since. I dine in at least one a month and the food, ambiance, service and aura speaks for itself. You have to go just to experience it at least once. I recommend getting the mushroom tacos for a starter, the fish for your entree and the brown butter cake for dessert. I'm eager to try their brunch! Few things to know: -Valet service ($10 for regular and $30 for VIP I believe). I do think that it should be complimentary considering the price point of the menu. -There are two sides of the restaurant. One is very loud, and often has the DJ or some sort of entertainment. While the other is calmer. Both sides have a bar though. -Make a reservation. We came in a couple minutes before our reservation and were told to wait at the bar. I think we waited 10 minutes. They have a strict 15 minute grace period yet I'm not sure why I wasn't seated immediately. They serve us chips and salsa which was nice. Water was $11, they ask if you want still or sparkling and don't give you the option to to get free water (I had no idea until I got my bill). Didn't really love that bc why should I pay for water. We started with the hamachi which was very good. The chicken al pastor was a little salty. I loved the side dishes. The truffle mac was my favorite. I wish the street corn has some more toppings but it was still good. The inside is very pretty but the music is really loud. They charge a 20% gratuity automatically which I thought was crazy. You may or may not be familiar with this place around town. With locations in Hollywood, Vegas, and Scottsdale, not surprised Houston has been added to the list. The place is pricey, and there are upcharges everywhere. Bottled water for the table $30, the valet, automatic 20% gratuity, etc. Parking - there is valet. According to another Yelp reviewer, they have VIP valet for $30 & $10 regular. I found parking across the street, @ memorial park, $1 for 3 hours. If you can snag this it's your best bet. I don't think there is any street parking outside of this? But yall tell me. Service - was fair, no split checks. Drinks - I ordered the watermelon Rita, I was expecting it to be a bit more boozy for the price. It was fine, didn't blow me away. Food- they serve chips/pico at the table, the chips are nicely seasoned and the pico is flavorful. For my entree I ordered the Kale salad. It was dressed well, and was pretty tasty, with a fair portion. I tried a bite of the truffle quesdilla- very truffley, yum. The desserts for the bday girl we all shared, a brownie/ice cream and brown butter cake, were very yummy. I really wanted to like this place more, but we had a very meh experience. We came here on a Wednesday night with a party of 4 - we were able to make a reservation the day before, but if you're coming on a weekend, you probably need to make a reservation a week or more before. It was raining the day we came, so we valeted- and unfortunately that's when our poor service began. The valet is a decent walk away from the entrance - and the valet made us wait in the rain while he worked on getting us our ticket. Our friends had to wait much longer in the rain as well. We were sure to review their dress code, since so many reviews commented on how particular they are. Luckily didn't have any trouble there. They guided us to grab a drink at the bar while we waited for our friends to join, and didn't seat us even though the restaurant was pretty empty. And then, they needed us to close out the tab at the bar (which was very slow to do so), before they seated us when our friends got there. Just seemed like it was difficult for no reason. The vibe itself is very cool - feels like you're in Tulum! So definitely a cool place to impress people based on ambiance. Every 10 minutes, tables were ordering fire shots - as our waiter told us, they can make any drink or shot or mocktail "on fire" - definitely a cool sight! They also had a guitarist walking around, but it seems like for the best entertainment, you have to come on the weekend. As a Mexican steakhouse, cocktails are mostly tequila and mezcal based. They were great! Aside from their main menu, they also have a taco menu, which our waiter didn't bring us - so don't forget to ask for that. They brought out some complimentary chips and pico to start. We ordered: truffle mushroom quesadillas as a starter (4/5) and then ceviche (2/5), branzino (5/5), salmon (5/5), chicken pastor tacos (3/5), and truffle fries (4/5). Ceviche was very average, fish didn't seem that fresh. Chicken tacos were okay. The fish was great! We asked for refills on the chips and pico, but had to ask multiple times for that - and they finalllly brought it to us towards the end of the meal. We finished up the meal with their strawberry tres leches cake (4/5), which was good. Overall, service left more to be desired, it was very pricey, but had a nice vibe. Protip- if you're not using the InKind app, you're missing out - definitely use it here. Doubt we'll be back here, but okay to try once. read more

The waitress we had was extremely informative and helpful since we have not been before. We went on a Tuesday night and were able to see the fire dancers, which was really cool! If you are looking for a club vibe, very loud, and more of a party restaurant than this is definitely going to be your speed. If you were looking for a nice relaxing, able to have a conversation type vibe then this will not be your speed. We visited Toca Madera on a Friday evening without knowing quite what to expect--and it turned into a full-blown experience. First, parking: valet is the only option. It's $10.83 if you let them park in their underground garage, but if you want your car parked up top for quick access, you'll pay over $40, which is absurd. That said, it does take them a while to retrieve your car from the garage, so plan ahead when leaving. The entrance is grand and inviting, with an outdoor patio and natural elements like trees that give off major "forest treehouse" vibes. Inside, it's very dark and very loud. The deep-pulsing electronic music sets the tone--it's not a place for quiet conversation, but rather a spot to let loose and enjoy the high-energy atmosphere. Around 7 PM, a live DJ took over, accompanied by an incredible guitarist improvising over the beat. Then came a surprise fire dancer... who turned out to be someone I am friends with (@poisonivycirque on Instagram)! Seeing her perform with fire--spinning and even eating flames--was a surreal and exciting bonus. Service-wise, we were taken care of by GG, who was outstanding. These were curly fries that tasted frozen, with an artificial-tasting cheese on top. No truffle flavor detected. Disappointing and not up to par for a restaurant like this. - 1/5 [DESSERT] +Brown Butter Cake ($22) - Bourbon toffee sauce, toasted feuilletine crumble, berry sauce, and vanilla bean ice cream. My friends and I were looking forward to trying this restaurant for ages and had high expectations. Toca Madera not only met these expectations, they soared above them! From the moment we entered the only word that can be used to describe the ambiance and setting is magical. It truly felt immersive. We were given attentive service and our waiter was able to explain the intricate details of each dish and the restaurant's motto. And then came the food. We tried several appetizers, with my standout being the queso fundido. The main course of petite filet was succulent and filling, and was perfectly medium well as I had asked for. The brown butter cake added a nice sweet and decadent end to a near perfect experience. The one part of the evening that was a little less pleasant was some confusion regarding prices of suggested replacement menu items, such as tequila or cuts of steak, with a lack of explanation regarding these details. Let's start with some basics: you need to enter the valet from Allen Pkwy, it's $10 at exit. Then walk around the cool "nest" to enter. Please pay attention to dress code rules beforehand. The music was pretty loud s table conversation was a bit difficult. The food was good, some a lot better then others but generally our table of friends liked everything we ordered. However, the bummer to the night was SLOW service. It made it difficult to receive drinks or request changes after dishes were brought out. Even had a hard time getting our server to return so we could explain missing items. If they get that piece sorted out, this place will be amazing. All in all great experience, nicely crafted tasty food and pristine customer service. My only complaint is with the valet. I gave them my valet ticket paid, and 10 mins later I'm still waiting for my car. The valet agent some how forgot to pick up my key and I had to look through the valet station for my key. Secondly upon receipt of my vehicle someone had used their uncleansed hand and pushed my side mirror in...my mirrors are electric so it was malfunctioning post starting the ignition... not pleased with that. I ordered the tomahawk steak--the one they light on fire--expecting a unique experience, but it was terrible. The meat was burned on the outside, even bitter. When I asked the waiter about it (his name was Rafael, and he was Latino too), he said that's how it's supposed to be, that they use a "special ingredient" that leaves the outside charred. What really bothered me was when he added, "You're the second Latino to complain about it," which honestly felt a bit racist. Like... are Latinos not supposed to know what a tomahawk steak is? Terrible experience. I spent $500, and the only thing I actually enjoyed was the appetizer. Please, if you're American and used to eating this kind of steak--is it really supposed to be this bitter and this burnt on the outside??? read more

As much as it saddens me to leave a negative review, I have to at this point. Starting on a good note, the atmosphere and service was top tier. Our waiters were very attentive and helpful as far as guiding us through the menu. As this was our first time having a girls night out, we really enjoyed the scene and the experience of Toca. However, everything went to a downfall when one of my friends found a screw in her to go box from the food that was ordered at our visit. She has tried to reach out to management, but no answer for this to be such a high class and one of the so-called best restaurants in Houston, I would think management would be on top of any sort of comments or complaints that any patron brings to their attention. I am disappointed in Toca and most likely will not plan to ever go back to this restaurant.
