Love this place for breakfast. Great portions and cool vibe. Very artsy and eclectic. A great staple for brunch.

Breakfast bruschetta w/ side of bacon fried rice
Reyna R.

I got the breakfast bruschetta as my meal with a side of bacon fried rice. The rice was flavorful, but not sure how I felt about eating that for breakfast. The balsamic glaze was too strong for my liking. Got the oatmeal raisin cookie hot chocolate, and asked for it half sweet. It was yummy, but even then, it was still sweet. The iced bee-stachio latte was good. Did think it was very expensive though - $9.50 for a latte!? Went around 11am on a weekday and got seated right away. It was pretty full for a weekday. There was a lot of seating at tables and at the bar. Our waiter was still training, but he was very professional and sweet.

An absolute must for me any time I am in Ferndale at breakfast time! The ambiance has a Greenwich Village vibe with unique and delicious food options. I've never had anything there that I didn't like, and the Dulce de Leche Grilled Cinnamon Roll is out of control! A few favorites for me are the Huevos Rancheros, Bacon Fried Rice, and the Parisian omelet (recommend you ask them to go light on the Chèvre tho ;)). The Service has always been excellent and provided by cool and interesting humans. If you are looking for a cheap, greasy spoon brekkie, this ain't it!

Eggs Benedict with bacon fried rice

Really cute restaurant that's been around for quite a while but I hadn't ventured out to this location for a long time. Today we walked in around noon and were seated immediately, although most of the restaurant was already full. Our server was very nice and explained the menu well. I felt the latte I got was quite expensive (9.50) but very very good. The classic eggs Benedict was also very good and plentiful. We also had the corned beef hash that was delicious. My only gripes really were the tight parking lot situation in the back and the lack of napkins for our very messy food lol otherwise everything was really good and although a bit pricey, I'd say it was worth it.

Entrance dining area

We stopped into Ferndale's TOAST one weekday morning about 1030 am. Parking on the street was easy, though i think there's limited parking behind the eatery as well. The restaurant entrance dining area was nearly empty so we were invited to sit wherever we were comfortable. The place is beautifully decorated with toasters, art and flowers. Very clean too! I noticed the placement of noise-reducing, anechoic ceiling panels - very helpful when there's a full house of noisy patrons! The staff we interacted with were friendly, unobtrusive and knowledgeable about menu options. Another plus. I ordered a "hair of the dog" Breakfast Shot with accompanying OJ and bacon. It was delicious! My full order "Salmon Toast" loaded with lox, tomato, red onion, capers and cream cheese was HUGE, and tasted great! The toasted bread was warm and crusty too. Know that the other half of that sandwich came home with me for second meal. Price point is reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food and beverage options. I definitely recommend Toast in Ferndale.

Strawberry Cheesecake Waffle

This was my second time at Toast. If you're in Birmingham this is a solid breakfast/brunch spot with a fun atmosphere. They get pretty crowded on weekends, but we were seated right away for our weekday brunch. The service was always great, and the waiters were very amicable. I really loved our waiters both times we were here. I got a strawberry cheesecake waffle today which was excellent. The cream cheese with the whipped cream, graham cracker dust, and fresh strawberries made for a very decadent breakfast meal that was surprisingly not as heavy as it looked, though I would not say it was light. I didn't use the syrup, but I could see how some people might want it for an extra dose of sugar. The waffles were nice and crisp, and I would definitely order this again if I'm in the mood for a sweet treat. Overall, this is a nice family friendly spot if you're in town!

Classic 2 Egg Breakfast

Food was very good. Coffee is excellent. I tend not to like strong coffee the second round. I did a little Baileys with it. They're overpriced but nowadays everything is I said at the bar if I didn't, I would've had a wait. The ambience is fun and crowded so you know the food is delicious

Wonderful atmosphere and ambience! Busy but still enjoyable and intimate. We arrived with a group of 7 and they seated us quickly even though the restaurant had a good crowd. The service was impeccable! Friendly and efficient. It's a very upbeat place and it felt comforting especially when the deliciously prepared entrees arrived. Loved the holiday decor! Sweet or savory: you cannot go wrong. Homemade breads, jams and sauces. A variety of hot sauces at the table is always a winner! This place totally hits! Would very much recommend!

Matcha with strawberry vanilla

Great spot for brunch. I got the matcha with muddled strawberry vanilla and it was delicious. We also enjoyed the chicken and waffles and house fries. Service was great!

This place is always a hit ! The waffles and chicken are top tier ! The mimosas are amazing, and the Parmesan grits BABY ! I highly recommend. Parking is a little congested though !

Chicken and waffle- ranchero with chorizo

Way way over priced for what it is. We had a gift card for $50 and still had to pay $13.63 for two people. That did not include the tip? Over $70 for breakfast? That's insane Waitress was very nice. First Watch is definitely better! Food was just okay.

Food was good, didn't like they added 20% tip on to the bill. We don't mind tipping, but 20% is silly.

The servers are all well trained, and highly professional. The food is fantastic. The menu is the standout; it is very creative and has something for everyone. Let's start with their breakfast. This is probably the best breakfast/brunch place in town. Too bad they're only open weekends for breakfast. Whenever we have family back in town or friends from out of town, this is our go to place. Casual relaxed, friendly with quality food. If you haven't been here for breakfast, I would highly recommend it. The only comment I have is they don't open for breakfast until a little bit later in the morning. Usually, there is a line out out front waiting for them to open. We've had most things on the menu and to be truthful, not one thing has disappointed. Dinner: we don't get here too often for dinner because in my mind, this is our go to breakfast place. Last week we tried it for dinner and again, very pleasantly surprised at the professionalism of the wait staff, the quality of the food, and the overall dining experience. Whoever transformed his place from a hipster beer hall to a quality dining experience did a great job. Kudos to them!

But on a Friday, everything else was full and they had space. You step inside and it has the feel of a trendy hot spot; loud music, great vibe, nice decor. Young crowd, lots of couples on dates, and a few large groups. Very extensive drink list, with interesting cocktails. Huge bar. I would say the music is a bit too loud; its not a dance club, so I should be able to have a conversation without screaming. Food is good enough, but not quite there. Menu is interesting and well thought out. Smoked Salmon Crostini is 10 out of 10. Smash burger is bland and just ok. WAY too much sauce. 4 out of 10. Bam bam shrimp tacos are highly craveable. 8 out of 10. Steak frites, priced at $60, are very tasty, but not worth the $60. I ordered my steak medium rare; the ends were a perfect mid rare, but the middle was rare, which is fine as its a big steak and the rare bits will heat up nicely at home. Meat its self seasoned extremely well, and quite tender given its a NY strip. Service is good, but a bit slow. Overall, I would like to come back for a happy hour at the bar.

They have a "gamemaster" who helps you select from the hundreds of games they have available. What made it a great meal was that every food item was just so well prepared. I had their Green Eggs and Ham (poblano pesto and jack cheese scrambled eggs served with seared ham, spuds, and toast). My parents both ordered the Forager Rumble (mushrooms, caramelized onions, smoked gouda, and greens scrambled with eggs, served with spuds and toast), but my mom veganized it (with tofu and no cheese) and my stepdad egg white-d it. They make everything in house, down to their jams (the jam of the day was strawberry basil) and the hot sauces (they offer a range from mild to hot). I don't normally eat much of the toast served with breakfast plates, but with jam that good!? I ate that (well-buttered) toast! My green eggs and ham was a treat - retro, fun, and delicious. We also enjoyed a few cups of coffee each. On top of the great food, the service was great. The friendliest. This is just a charming spot for breakfast. I'd love to return!

My wife had the Eggs Benedict, her favorite breakfast dish. She said it was very good and she particularly liked the potatoes that came with it. One final note (and this was not reflected in my rating): the seating in the outdoor section is pretty tight and a couple with a large dog was seated next to us. I'm not a big fan of people bringing dogs to restaurants, but if they are well behaved, I can deal with it. Unfortunately, at one point this dog got excited by a dog coming by on the sidewalk and jumped up and started barking at the others dog, just inches away from me. It was quite startling and its owner was not particularly apologetic. With such a confined space, I think this establishment may want to reconsider whether it allows dogs in their outdoor seating area.
