The avocado toast was just okay. It was more like a basic smashed guacamole and didn't taste very fresh. The fruit on the side was actually really fresh, but for the price I expected the toast itself to be a lot better. Service was a little slow, but our server was really nice so that helped. Our waiter was very nice and the food arrived quickly. The only damper of Hudson cafe is the volume. Because of the building design, it's super loud and sometimes difficult to have a conversation. We went on Sunday morning, before the church crowd was out (around 10:15) but reservations are recommended anytime. By the time we left the line was out the door. The chicken wrap was tasty but the chicken needs more seasoning without all the other components of the wrap the chicken is flavorless. Those waffle fries are fried to perfection! Crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Oh and yes their ranch is good too, not everyone has good tasting ranch. Mimosa didn't disappoint. This was my first visit to the Troy MI location. I have only been to the Detroit location, which is situated across when the old Hudson building stood (hence the name). It was a busy Easter Sunday but we had made reservations and for a later time so everyone was just leaving. We did have to wait 10 minutes but it was expected on Easter. It's an open space with high ceilings which makes up for its limited space. Our server got us our drinks and took our orders. I ordered coffee but they don't have flavored creamer and the server didn't offer a flavor shot so I wasn't impressed with my only option of half and half. For my breakfast, I opted for the Red Velvet Pancakes which is my fave from the other location, with a side of bacon. The bacon arrived very warm, which doesn't always happen at brunch joints because they typically make it ahead of time and leave it in a holding pan. The pancakes were not dry, which is nice, but they didn't put any of the cream cheese topping in between the pancakes so I had to ask for extra. Yes, it's very much like a red velvet cupcake when it's all said and done but that's what I like when I want something sweet for brunch. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast choices but nothing really hit home as a stand out. I'm sure we'll return to try out some of the other options. read more

Do not go here. I'm writing this while being violently ill after eating a completely undercooked breakfast here this morning. My monte cristo had more raw egg leaking out of it than something Rocky drank before a fight. My wife's pancakes may have touched a griddle to "cook" but were taken off after a brief introduction. I would have told our server, but she came back a total of one time after our order. She spent more time attending to the couple next to us running back and forth than ever even looking at us. $90 for breakfast that was pure garbage. Seriously. $90. That was for three of us. No way would I ever come here or recommend it to anyone except my toilet, which seems to be enjoying it. Place is super loud, so much so you can't even hear the person across from you. Thank God they had tvs to watch because there's nothing else on the walls to look at and you can't have a conversation at all. Again, don't go here. This place shouldn't exist. My ex-coworkers and I tried this place for the first time. Our waitress was very pleasant and the food portions were huge. Maybe someone should have warned us that once we received our carry-out boxes that we needed to leave immediately. After receiving our carry-out boxes we were about 15 minutes into our conversation. I was going to place two more orders to carry-out for family due to the portion sizes. However, as I began looking for our waitress to place the orders, the hostess came over to our table and said that other guests were waiting to be seated. We politely said okay, hugged one another to say goodbye, and immediately got up from our table. Once we got up from the table, other guests who were waiting to be seated were staring at us until we walked out the building. This was so embarrassing and we will not return to this restaurant. The roasted beet salad was very filling and full of flavor, and the side of pita bread was fluffy and so good! I thought the portions were very reasonable for the pricing. Our server, Heather, was attentive and accommodating, and was very knowledgeable about gluten-free options for my friend, which was so reassuring. The menu has such great variety and I want to try so many things, including the gluten-free berry French toast next time! I've eaten at the location downtown many years ago, and haven't been back because it's just so far. When I heard they were opening one up in Troy, I was excited because it's way closer and I can visit here more often. Since it's been a minute since I've eaten here, I had to re-acquaint myself with the menu. But, I do remember having a great experience at the one downtown, so I walked in mostly knowing what to expect. Well, mostly, sort of. I chose to come in on a Thursday morning instead of a weekend day to avoid any crowds. I read and heard that reservations are preferred which kind of put me off visiting sooner because I wasn't interested in booking ahead of time. So, this morning I finally said what the heck, tried to book a reservation and it wouldn't let me! Kind of annoying and confusing, but whatever. So, I drove over to see if they were even open on this nice Thursday and they were. thank goodness! They said the reservations are usually for busier times like weekend brunches and such. good to know! I reviewed the menu at home and was already set on what dish I wanted, but I love the selection of food they have here. They're a breakfast & lunch place, which is totally my scene. I wanted to try one of their more signature dishes, so I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. This is my favorite breakfast dish WHEN DONE CORRECTLY. Most places don't make it very good and it comes out tasting and looking like slop. NOT HERE! The hudson cafe makes it right! The only other place in town that cooks it well is Jagged Fork. and now Hudson Cafe! It came out in a skillet and was absolutely fabulous. I literally made a huge mess eating it. Thank goodness it was early, hardly anyone was there and I was eating alone. I got through most of it and had a few extra potatoes leftover at the end. They use green sauce here instead of a red hot sauce like Jagged Fork does, but it still tastes absolutely fantastic. It's a very hearty serving, so go here hungry when eating. Portions are worth the price. I paid by card at my table which was lovely. My breakfast was about $15, but I think they charged me extra since it rang up at $16.72 or something. I left a big tip, so my total was a little over $20. They also have mimosa's here along with a wonderful drink list both alcoholic and non alcoholic which is nice. I am so glad this place is here, and I'll be returning in the future. read more

After driving by this place a million times I finally decided to drop in for brunch with a friend. We came on a Saturday and it was pretty busy, but that was to be expected. I put my name down on the list but the wait was only like 10-15 minutes so overall not bad at all for a packed restaurant. I attempted to try to go for a healthy option, but all bets were off when I saw the cinnamon roll pancakes. They were delicious and not too sweet. In addition we ordered a bagel, yogurt bowl, scrambled eggs and grits with cheese. The food was lovely and the portion sizes are very good. You may find yourself asking for a to go box. Our sever was super kind and attentive as well which was a plus. In Addition, I parked in the structure as it's more than likely going to be your best bet as it has lots of spaces and trying to park directly in front of the restaurant seems to always be full. My colleague and I decided to visit here for a late lunch and was DISAPPOINTED. Food: 4 - the food is pretty decent. We had the velvet pancakes, the chicken wrap, chicken and waffles and a few sides. In general, it was crispy where needed, seasoned well enough, and savory. I would recommend any of these items. Ambience: 1 - The scene was loud and noisy and difficult to hold a decent conversation. Service: 2 - 1/2 through our lunch, the server brought us our bill. In addition, they started racking chairs on the tables surrounding us and literally was telling us to "leave quickly". My sister & I were debating between the same things: the portobello omelette & the Thanksgiving omelette, so we got both and shared. She opted for raisin toast & fruit, and I went the unhealthy way: potatoes and pancakes! Lol. The omelettes were both very good, but they seemed a little small. No matter, though, as neither of us finished them. There were TONS of potatoes, and I thought they only gave one pancake, but I had 2. The potatoes were nice & crispy. I just tasted the pancakes because I wasn't hungry enough to actually eat them, but they were very good -- the right amount of sweetness, and I did love the butter that was melting on top. (I usually take the butter off, but a good amount had soaked in before I did that. ) And that they serve the syrup HOT was a lovely touch. I e got there at 10am on a Friday. There was no wait and the place was almost empty. By the time we left, maybe an hour later, it got busy. 5/5 - Service. Glass of water was always filled. They were attentive - took our plates away when finished. 4/5 - Food. Got the Very Berry Stuffed French Toast, which was very good for sweet lovers. It was like eating a berry cheesecake. Added a side of sausage links for a bit of a savory element. My husband got the Bacon Jam Crepe. Too salty for my liking - but the husband enjoyed it. He wished there was more bacon jam on it though. Quality was good. It's quite pricey though. I wish they included more items as part of a combo with their entrees. The place was laid back and good for small groups. read more

Love the downtown branch of the chain, so was delighted to have it open so close to home. Moreover, I LOVE the fact that they take reservations, so no need to worry about long waits for brunch. My go to is the Voodoo Benedict, but I have to say their pancake are also fantastic. Also, the staff is stuffed with total pros and the decor is modern, but not overly trendy. The Maurice salad is HUGE & my grandma approved (she said it was similar to the original Hudson's Maurice!!) it was pretty packed at noon on a Wednesday.. lots of background noise & good music. The OJ was refreshing & the bacon jam crepes were unlike anything I've had before. I think next time I'm going to try a sweet dish. Quick service, almost too quick. They wanted you out in a hurry. Our server never asked us if we wanted a second drink. Our food came out in 5 minutes after ordering. My girls and I went for Sunday Brunch, aiming to take a few hours, get a lot of catching up in, and the obligatory boozy bevies. I couldn't decide between the Hudson salad and the Irish bennies, so I go both, so I could take leftovers home to the hubby. I loved the idea of the Irish bennies, but it was just too much. Too much corned beef, too much spice, too much aoili, and the muffin was too thick that it got too hard to cut, kind of like it was microwaved. The Hudson salad was everything I remembered, though. The gerkins, green olives, and the dressing were fabulous. I can definitely crave this salad. I dined with 3 others, and no one said great things about their meals, nor did they say "Let's come back here". I may order a Hudson salad as a carry out once or twice a year, but other than than I'm not impressed, or intrigued enough to come back. read more

We're big fans of Hudson Cafe downtown, so when we heard that they were opening a location in Troy, we were very excited! After months of waiting, we saw an article in Crain's that said they had opened on Friday, so we were sure to be there on Saturday morning! It was hopping, but we were able to get a walk-in table without waiting too long. I went for the Smashed Avocado Toast and it had a great flavor and the portion was very generous. My wife loves a good Benedict ans she enjoyed the one here. She also ordered the Cinnabunn pancake for us to share and she said it was great (I was too stuffed to have any). My daughter also liked her waffle with bacon. The decor was pretty generic and the staff seemed like they are still getting up to speed, but the food was top notch and that's why we were there...and it's why we'll be back! read more

I've been here twice and have had different food each time. Once for a birthday and another for Mother's Day. The service was good both times and since we had reservations we didn't wait long. Depending on where you're seated you could be really close to another table and overhead the conversation which I don't love. The place is on the smaller side and compact.
