LOVE!!! I have been passing this place with intentions to stop in for months. The name comes from one of my favorite movies "fried green tomatoes " The space is small and you may have a little wait time. That's it, that's the only negative. The staff....This was a well oiled machine. Everyone was moving, cleaning, serving, working !!! Not one person not busy. I was crazy impressed with how quickly and quietly they got the job done!! Phenomenal that alone would bring me back. The food was excellent and I needed to hug someone for the crabber that I had. Please please please go check out this gem.

I came here with my two sons who have eaten at this place before and they rave about it. They said normally when they are there on the weekends it's impossible to get in and there's usually a really long line. We happened to be free on a Friday morning so we were able to walk right in and sit down which was wonderful. Our waitress was right there to take our drink order and answer any questions. The water glasses are small but she brought a large glass pitcher for the table which was nice. I got the Hippie Omelette made with egg whites And it came with the choice of hashbrowns or Parmesan crusted grits. The grits actually looked like cornbread when they served it and it tasted delicious. They had probably five or six different types of breads to go with the breakfast but boring me got just the rye toast. Both of my sons ordered off of the specials menu. One got the French eggs Benedict and the other son got the breakfast quesadillas. We all enjoyed our meals very much and the portions were large and the food was delicious

I love Whistle Stop Diner! One of my go to great breakfast spots! It is conveniently located and the staff is always the best! I probably eat here once a month, if not more lol. The Cinnamon Roll, and The Lobster Omelette w/ Hash Browns was great. However, my go to most of the the time is the Turkey Sausage Skillet! Amazing every time!

If I see eggs Benedict, you have my attention. Let alone different versions, I was all in. I ordered the French Benedict with home fries and I wasn't disappointed. Service was great, quick seating, coffee was refilled without even asking (I love that). Perfect BFF breakfast spot

A hidden gem; all-around good food. They've expanded their location since I was there last, and it was most definitely needed as this place is packed 80% of the time. Food is consistent, it gets to you unbelievably fast despite the crowd! They also boast a HUGE selection on their menu, with a wide variety of bfast options -- which are my favorite. I'd recommend a skillet or an eggs benny!

My wife, 4 year old son, and myself came here before going to the zoo for breakfast. My wife grew up in the area and wanted to show it to me because she loved it before. We got there and there was a little wait, which wasn't a surprise as it was a Sunday at 10am. 15 minutes and it went fast. We were seated and the building and room looked great. Different from when my wife remembered as it was recently renovated I guess. That also meant the menu was renovated. I ordered the Breakfast Taco special with chorizo. My wife had the Train Wreck skillet. My son had The Chick from the kids menu. My food was alright. The tacos were packed, but were falling apart when I picked it up. The shell was soggy and the chorizo was a little bland. My wife's meal was amazing though. She said it was one of the best things had in a long time. My sons was...basic and VERY expensive for what it was. That brings me to the next thing...prices. The prices are very expensive. Basic omelettes were $16-$18. My son's meal was $9 for a single piece of bread, 1 sausage link, and 1 egg. Not even a drink. Our total bill with tip was almost $80. They even charged an additional 3% for card use. The service: 5/5 The food: 3.5/5 The ambience: 5/5 The prices: 1/5

I wanted something good for lunch and decided to stop at the Whistle Stop. I popped in around 2 PM and didn't realize that they closed in an hour. I sat at the countertop and ordered my food. It didn't take long for my order to come up. And during my time there, they were very attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. I've been here a few times and the service, food, and atmosphere has been consistent. One of my go to spots.

Visiting Michigan again and came back to this restaurant for brunch! I tried the vegetarian skillet (The Veggie) this time and absolutely loved it! Potatoes were cooked just right, and they were able to do egg whites instead for me. I also tried their espresso martini, which was pretty good.

Whistle Stop has been on my radar forever, and I finally had the chance to visit on Friday! We came around 11, and it was pretty busy inside, but we were able to be seated right away at the bar. The staff was super friendly, and the service was incredibly quick. I also loved the cozy atmosphere. The menu was pretty large -- one full side is a mix of sweet and savory breakfast options, and the other is for lunch items. I ended up getting a fresh-squeezed orange juice and the pancake platter, complete with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and your choice of meat (I did bacon). It was very good! Fresh and delicious. I will say that for what I got I feel like it was a bit overpriced, but nothing that would keep me from coming back. Just something to keep in mind! I'd recommend making a stop here if you have the chance.

Decided to give this place a try for a brunch/late breakfast. The Spanish coffee was really good and picture perfect. Also really liked the lobster Benedict. It has a good amount of lobster and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The chicken and waffles was also pretty good although I would've expected different chicken and not just chicken tenders. The service was great and the inside had that retro vibe to it. Definitely will be back to try other menu items.

I love Whistle Stop! I've been several times and every time it delivers. The food, the service, the vibes, the enjoyment, and the positive energy. These all have been constant and consistent. I know a GEM when I see one. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them

Gluten free Oh Cisco eggs benedict (without the English muffin) and side salad

This is one of our favorite places to get breakfast on the weekends. There's usually a wait when we go, but it's never longer than 15 minutes for a party of 2. They have indoor seating in two rooms, and some outdoor seating with umbrellas. It's a casual spot with service that is very efficient and reliable. The food is great for the prices and better than what you can get at Toast down the road. My boyfriend loves the Pleasant Ridge omelette and I like the Oh Cisco eggs benedict (gluten free without the English muffins and home fries). They have great iced coffee and latté options, too!

Overpriced diner food with a ridiculous wait. Expect to send a $100 + if a table of 2 adds a cocktail to your brunch

I finally got to try Toast in Ferndale for brunch!…read more The parking situation is a small lot behind the back and finding a spot on a weekend morning wasn't easy! We didn't have reservations so we did have to wait a while for a table. But, Toast made it manageable with an outdoor waiting area where you can order drinks from the bar. By the way, the outdoor area is not fully insulated, just sectioned off with clear tarp, so it can still feel a little chilly. However, it was nice having somewhere sit and mingle instead of just standing around by the door. Now to the good part: My table ordered the trashy hashy, toast egg sammy, and a muddled strawberry vanilla iced matcha. I started off with the iced matcha and ended with the egg sammy with a side of parmesan grits. The matcha was a little watery but good. The sandwich was super flavorful but very messy. I had to ask for extra napkins after but the mess was totally worth the flavor! I can't wait to come back! I'll be prepared with reservations next time!

She responded that she already had, but I pointed out that there were still crumbs there. She seemed irritated, so I even offered to wipe it myself if she gave me the towel. She then asked me to show her where the crumbs were and wiped them off. Unfortunately, her attitude throughout the interaction was very rude and unprofessional. My sister then asked to speak with a manager. When the manager came over, the other ladies in our group also mentioned the waitress's attitude. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, the general manager became defensive and stated that the waitress did not have a nasty attitude. He then told us that if we wanted to leave, we could leave because he was not going to be bothered with us. He took our menus and asked us to leave simply because we requested that the table be cleaned properly. I would love to see better service and customers treated with respect! Ms Cheryl W.

Oak Diner - Royal Oak (Campbell Rd) Walking into Oak Diner…read morebrought back so many great memories. I used to live nearby about 25 years ago and remember coming to a diner in this area for breakfast back then. Fast forward to today--this isn't the same place, but wow, it's absolutely amazing. Right away I loved the vibe. The chalkboards with handwritten menu items and daily specials on the walls give the place so much character and charm. It feels welcoming, classic, and cool all at the same time. The customer service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I ordered the country breakfast, which came with biscuits and gravy, eggs, toast, potatoes, and sausage--everything was spot on. I'm usually not a big hash browns person, so I really appreciated that they offer an alternative to the shredded style. I went with the cubed breakfast potatoes (not sure what they officially call them), and they were so much better--crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Between the food, the service, and the overall atmosphere, this place completely won me over. I already know I'll be back next weekend. Oak Diner has a really, really good vibe, and I'm glad I rediscovered breakfast here. Highly recommend.

In fact, several of my friends traveled to the area specifically to visit Public House. Sadly, the menu has changed and there are no only three items on the menu for Vegans. The items are the Strawberry Shortcake, which was a prior favorite, but has been reduced in its appeal by the omission of the vegan cream that topped it off and the other items are a Burrito Bowl, which is available anywhere you go through the addition and deduction of conventional food items, and the Chik n waffle. This reduced menu of three items compared to the 24 + conventional items on the menu is extremely disappointing. Service wise the greeting at the front door was very slow when there was only one other patron in front of us. It literally took 10 minutes to be greeted and the restaurant was not full compared to its previous more appealing times for Vegans where you really did have to wait. The staff was over all very friendly and accommodating. You couldn't ask for a nice group of people. And the diversity of the team is amazing....it is noticed and valued! The strawberry shortcake without the whip cream is good but the vegan whipped cream makes a difference and was notably missing. The Bloody Mary was pretty good. Overall...it's a ok place for Vegans but no longer a great place us.

The space is adorable and welcoming and the staff were just as welcoming and helpful to us, as first-timers. Public House has an extensive vegan menu that they are pretty proud of. We however opted for the regular Pastrami Hash and Chicken & Waffles. Both were delightful from taste to texture! The chicken was fried and seasoned to perfection. The fresh veggies and amazing mornay sauce made the pastrami dish my personal favorite. We look forward to trying them intentionally very soon!

We're bar sitters through and through, and between the bartender, a friendly regular who scooted over for us, and literally every person we interacted with, the vibe was unmatched. I worked in the service industry in a former life, so I know how rare it is to find a place where everyone is friendly. There's usually at least one Debbie Downer. Not here. No rushing, great recommendations, and zero feeling like you're "that couple" taking up bar space. Drinks and beer selection were solid, but let's talk food because ambiance and service are only half the equation. We started with the coney dog egg rolls and... wow. Epic. Unique. Immediately set the bar high. Then we ordered the fish and chips and the short rib sandwich. The fish was perfectly breaded, the remoulade was on point, and those skinny fries were dangerous. But the star of the show? The short rib sandwich. Holy shit. I don't normally eat onions or horseradish, but somehow this sandwich converted me. The caramelized onions weren't overpowering, the sauce wasn't spicy, and everything just worked. We literally woke up the next morning talking about how we need it again. The bartender filled us in on happy hour and all the food options, and we're already planning our return. Total hidden gem on Woodward. Highly recommend. Thanks for a great Saturday night!
