Have you watched a movie and a character mentions a food item and you just gotta have it? Well today's food item was an omelette mentioned in the series Mindhunters. So, I searched Yelp for 'omelette' and they never disappoint. Coolidge Café is located on 9 Mile Rd just east of Coolidge Rd. Their street sign says it plain as day for all to see - Coolidge Café Specialty Omelettes. Another sign says, they have had the best omelettes in town for over 40 years!!! They are open daily from 7am - 3pm. I studied the menu with a peeked interest. The menu has 27 Omelettes to choose from PLUS an Omelette Your Way option with your choice of meats, veggies and cheese. Each omelette is prepared with 5 eggs and served with hash browns or grits and toast. Yes, 5 eggs! After studying this large selection, I settled on the Coolidge Omelette with grits and wheat toast. Sunday brunch was delicious and filling! Besides omelettes, their menu is vast with other breakfast favorites, griddle, sides and breakfast wrap options. Their menu continues with soups, salads, wraps, burgers, sandwiches, melts, pitas, Coolidge dinners, Italian, Mexican, Seafood, Desserts and Side offerings. They also have a kids menu. Debbie was focused on placing those orders at the counter when I walked in to place my takeout order. She took my order with precision and brought my order to me where I was seating at a table by the door. Note: A 3% fee will be added to all credit card orders. The parking lot and the restaurant were pretty full. Although there was no wait time for a table. The seating options are typical cafe table and chairs. Careful. Today, three in my party ordered a Breakfast Quesadilla for $11.99 off the menu (dine in). My bill showed $12.32 for the item. When I questioned it, I was told it is assumed that folk will pay by CC, so they automatically up charge by 3%. If, when you get to the register, and you pay by cash, they remove the 3%. Guess what? They don't. Stay aware. It's just a few cents, but it's YOUR few cents.. The food is great, service was great, wait time was within reason. Just check your bill price against the menu price.. Met my cousin for breakfast on Saturday 2/28 around 12:30pm. Took waitress 15 minutes to come to table after my arrival. Asked for coffee 3x's on the 3rd request waitress came and refilled my cousins cup, I never received the cup I asked for. Upon eating my blueberry waffle, I noticed before eating a hair in my food. I advised the waitress who replied, " Oh ok". As we checked out to pay the bill, I advised that I hadn't received the coffee I requested 3x's and that there was hair in my food. I was asked if I informed anyone, and I pointed to our waitress and advised that she only responded oh ok. The coffee I never received was taken off the $33 bill, however NO compensation for the hair in my food. I did advise that I will NEVER return to this establishment as they are to passe regarding bad service and hair in the food served. read more

We stopped in with our family relative who just wanted a simple diner experience. Coolidge Cafe is more than that! The recent remodeling makes this clean, cool and airy interior even more inviting. Though a large screen TVs are powered, they're muted for easy conversation. Comfortable booth and table seating is available. Did I mention how pleasant everyone was? From the hostess at the register who welcomed us, to the attentive server and her assistant who bussed our meal - smiled, spoke with kindness, and made every patron feel seen. We ordered breakfast items, and I had a Greek Salad. Wow!! Portions are large. The salad was fresh and beautifully plated. The tasty dressing was placed in covered containers on the side. The grilled pita bread was warm, crispy and tasted lightly-seasoned delicious. We will return. We will bring out of towners. Kudos to the Chef, the wonderful staff and the Management. read more

Very huge portions, warm friendly inviting atmosphere. It can busy extremely busy depending the time you visit. The staff is very polite. You can tell the customers are loyal repeat patrons. My husband wasn't excited about trying this new spot out, it seemed a bit rough from the outside and looked a bit old and and dated inside as well. Zina is waiting on us. Tables are blocked off for social distancing. They have a 60% for their health violations. Zina hasn't come to our table yet, she might be doing the register too. No one has come for over 3 minutes at all, what's up that? She came a few seconds later, apologized for coming to our table late. Asked if we were ready. Ordered a vegetarian omelet with cheddar and hash browns and a side of rye. The bread options are white, wheat and rye here. I wanted a biscuit sandwich with eggs, fried well, cheddar cheese, turkey sausage and turkey bacon, well done and a side of hash browns well done with green peppers and onions. The biscuit was made to order and looked and tasted decent. The turkey sausage were links and there were two nicely crispy turkey bacon strips too. The biscuit was okay, a bit dry, but decent. The hash browns were perfectly crispy, not burned, just the way I like them. The food was out within minutes, it seemed. Food service is quite quick here. The veggie omelet was average, per my husband, the hash browns were average as well. They do use canned mushrooms for their veggie omelet, not fresh, as they had the look and rubbery feel of canned mushrooms. The line for carry out gets busy, then again it's lunchtime now. There are 8 people waiting for their food in line and now we are waiting again for our bill. All the waitstaff are focused on orders and pickups now. Food is waiting to be taken to guests, but there's no one to take it out yet. I finally had to go up to the counter and wait for Zina to hand me the bill and then I had to wait in line again to cash out. One couple left after they ordered their food and nothing was coming out. That food was still waiting to be taken out after I cashed out. I would be livid if that was my food I saw just sitting there getting cold. The service was unbelievably slow and frustrating today. The breakfast was pretty good, turkey bacon, blueberry pancake & hash browns. However, my bag had nothing else in it. I stopped on my way to work in Dearborn area. I didn't even get a napkin! It's a really large place friendly people and the staff reminds you of home. Along with great food. Today though, my hash browns were a little too crunchy but only on the top otherwise I'm happy as usual. The servings are so large you could actually split the meal and you both would be full. Stopped in for a quick bite waiting for something to open. True diner- it was am- I had eggs- guy at other table had catfish. It did look amazing! My plate was huge and affordable. Eggs, potatoes, bacon. Totally more than one human could eat. Wait staff prompt and friendly. Down side- I was facing into kitchen and saw cook with his mask down which was unsettling. Coolidge Cafe is usually one our favorite spots and a treat when we go. Unfortunately, this past time just didn't do so well for me. The service is always pleasant. Arriving around 10am, the place had ample seating available. Once we were seated the place quickly filled up. It's a popular joint. I ordered a salmon croquette breakfast with grits, cheese eggs and wheat toast. My husband a skillet breakfast and my daughter French toast. Upon my food arriving, I immediately felt something was a bit off. Looking at the salmon it didn't look properly seasoned. I saw no trace of cornmeal either. After my first forkful, my assumption was correct. The taste was bland and didn't even have salt or pepper on it. I ate one to be polite but couldn't stomach eating the other one. I couldn't finish my eggs or grits either. Meanwhile, my husband and Daughter loved their meals and raved about going back. I'll definitely be back, I'll just order the catfish next time. read more

Yesterday was my first time dining at the Coolidge Cafe. My friend invited me to go, and we both wanted brunch, so I decided to try this place out. This was the best decision! The food was so good! And hefty portions! How did I not know about this place?!? So, one thing, I love grits! And many breakfast places that I have been to in the past, can't get the consistency right to me. The grits that I had at the Coolidge Cafe were to perfection! Nice and thick, and lots of butter! I ordered the breakfast meal with Salmon Croquettes, Grits, Scrambled Eggs And Toast . My friend ordered the Fried Catfish, Hashbrowns, Scrambled Eggs, Grits and Toast. Both the Salmon Croquettes and Catfish were seasoned very well! Went here for the first time today. We were celebrating my sister's Birthday and decided to take her out to break fast. There are 5 of us. The Owner is super attentive. He kept coming by to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was awesome. The waitress was pleasant. The cashier was rude. Please be advised gratuity is added to the bill for 5 people or more. I wanted to leave a bigger tip for the waitress but when I asked cashier about the gratuity on the bill she cut me off and said it is printed on the menu and pointed. I've been coming here for several years. If you're in the metro Detroit area...this is a must to go to. It's not a fancy restaurant. The service is good and the waitresses quickly learn you and your menu choices. Check them out! I don't like their coffee but I'm a big coffee drinker. However, it's still good coffee. One negative is their Chicken Gyro...don't bother. If you like omelets...you'll need another stomach. If you like hashbrowns...same thing. I like the Carol and Rachel omelet. Yum. I'm a little upset that I'm just now learning of this place. My Mother has worked within walking distance of this diner for at least 5 years. I went only to pass time while waiting for an early hair appointment a mile away. The restaurant area is large but includes the typical diner bar. The staff greet you upon entering. A group of ladies seated and dining like regulars was reassuring that the food was decent enough for return visits so I felt confident with my choice. I was told to sit where I chose and once seated immediately offered a menu and asked for my drink. I order decaf tea and it was brought in a very clean mug with saucer, honey and lemon with a pot of hot water. The spoon was spotless. I ordered mostly a la carte as waffles tend to not come with any accouterments. I had a side of eggs with ham and an additional side of hash browns. When the waitress asked how well I wanted my hash browns I smiled on the inside knowing there was a real cook in the kitchen. My ham was warm and browned but not burnt or greasy. The has brown were well and crisp without burn marks. My eggs poached perfectly with no runny water to lose egg in and my waffle was perfect. Perfect waffles are ones that don't taste like air, flour or salt (I've tasted many waffle "flavors"). It was soft inside and crispy outside. What really impresses me is the cleanliness. Diners tend to stop caring about clean mugs, flatware and tables so when a high traffic diner like this shows they care I appreciate it. Come here after a fun night. read more
