Eggs Benedict with bacon fried rice
Bridgette Z.

Really cute restaurant that's been around for quite a while but I hadn't ventured out to this location for a long time. Today we walked in around noon and were seated immediately, although most of the restaurant was already full. Our server was very nice and explained the menu well. I felt the latte I got was quite expensive (9.50) but very very good. The classic eggs Benedict was also very good and plentiful. We also had the corned beef hash that was delicious. My only gripes really were the tight parking lot situation in the back and the lack of napkins for our very messy food lol otherwise everything was really good and although a bit pricey, I'd say it was worth it.

Great spot for brunch. I got the matcha with muddled strawberry vanilla and it was delicious. We also enjoyed the chicken and waffles and house fries. Service was great!

An absolute must for me any time I am in Ferndale at breakfast time! The ambiance has a Greenwich Village vibe with unique and delicious food options. I've never had anything there that I didn't like, and the Dulce de Leche Grilled Cinnamon Roll is out of control! A few favorites for me are the Huevos Rancheros, Bacon Fried Rice, and the Parisian omelet (recommend you ask them to go light on the Chèvre tho ;)). The Service has always been excellent and provided by cool and interesting humans. If you are looking for a cheap, greasy spoon brekkie, this ain't it!

Food was very good. Coffee is excellent. I tend not to like strong coffee the second round. I did a little Baileys with it. They're overpriced but nowadays everything is I said at the bar if I didn't, I would've had a wait. The ambience is fun and crowded so you know the food is delicious

Wonderful atmosphere and ambience! Busy but still enjoyable and intimate. We arrived with a group of 7 and they seated us quickly even though the restaurant had a good crowd. The service was impeccable! Friendly and efficient. It's a very upbeat place and it felt comforting especially when the deliciously prepared entrees arrived. Loved the holiday decor! Sweet or savory: you cannot go wrong. Homemade breads, jams and sauces. A variety of hot sauces at the table is always a winner! This place totally hits! Would very much recommend!

This place is always a hit ! The waffles and chicken are top tier ! The mimosas are amazing, and the Parmesan grits BABY ! I highly recommend. Parking is a little congested though !

Way way over priced for what it is. We had a gift card for $50 and still had to pay $13.63 for two people. That did not include the tip? Over $70 for breakfast? That's insane Waitress was very nice. First Watch is definitely better! Food was just okay.

I tried Toast for the first time and enjoyed everything. The service was great and ambiance was well needed on a Sunday.. I will be returning with friends and family.

Toast in Ferndale is my favorite brunch destination with fabulous food and a great staff. They DO add the 20% tip but we usually leave more because we LOVE Juju, our favorite server, although everyone is just lovely. They cook my eggs in butter, which you need to ask them to do if you have allergies to seed oils. TOAST IS THE BEST!!!

Ridiculous

First of all, I rarely post negative reviews. Unless something is terrible, I practice what my mom taught me and if I don't have anything positive to say, I don't say anything at all . But I took my daughter, two granddaughters (5 yrs old) and great grandson (2 yrs old) for brunch yesterday. Kids pancake meals x 3 with a side of sausage ($5 for 2 sausage links?), Fried green tomato Benedict, and the chicken breakfast enchilada (I specifically asked our waiter, whose "I'd rather be anywhere but here" attitude was VERY obvious, IF this dish was spicy because it had a pablano cream sauce and I cannot do spicy.) He assured me it wasn't spicy at all. It took longer than expected to get the food, but they were fairly busy, so not totally unexpected. But when I received mine, two bites into it and I had to call him back and let him know I couldn't eat it. It was very spicy. He apologized and I ordered the shrimp and grits instead, but there was no offer to substitute one for the other and I was still charged $19 for food I couldn't eat. Unfortunately the $20 shrimp and grits were a disappointment as well. To be fair, the shrimp (5) were seasoned and cooked well but the grits had absolutely no flavor. No salt, no other seasoning. As someone who works in the food service industry for the last 12 years and has been a savory/pastry chef for the last 7, I can only hope they get better in the future. When I received the bill and it was $115 because they ALSO automatically add a 20% gratuity for ANYONE dining in (and 10% for takeout!!!) that solidified that I will not go back or encourage anyone else to, either. If restaurants don't want to pay their workers a living wage, don't expect the customers to subsidize their salary. In most of my experience, places that do this almost always end up with employees who don't give a damn about giving decent service. I have all the respect for servers, I think it's one of the most frustrating and difficult jobs because you can work your ass off and not get anything from your customer. But as someone who 98% of the time over tips my servers, especially when the service is great, I did not appreciate having to give an $18 tip to someone who obviously would've preferred to be anywhere else than at work. Save your money and time and try somewhere else for brunch. This is not a place worth returning to.

The only reason I am giving two stars is for the portion sizes, but who wants to eat a plate loaded with food that tastes like absolutely nothing? Is seasoning 'at your own risk' here unless you're into spice so hot you cannot eat it? (Which happened due to a waiter suggesting Enchiladas for breakfast were not spicy...) Apparently my second time here and it was another disappointment... Our waiter, without hesitation, let out a big sigh and stated he was,"tired" and very much showed that in his work ethics the entire time. We were told the coffee had 'just run out' so they were making a fresh pot, however, they STILL gave us the stuff from the bottom of the pot, which was cold and bitter. I asked if I could simply wait for the fresh pot and it too was extremely bitter. My food was the Fried Green Tomatoes benny and the bacon fried rice. BOTH needed salt and I do not add that lightly; I have high blood pressure. I love to cook. I enjoy going out, but all of this food lacked any flavor whatsoever! The bacon fried rice, which was suggested by the waiter as well, tasted only of the oil they used and it had bacon. It should have some flavor! Everything was prepared great and looked wonderful, but everything was absolutely deceiving. Now the BILL... woah. They automatically added a 20% gratuity for DINING-IN! Not your parties amount, but just EATING. That's it! We had three extremely well behaved kids and two adults at a huge round table, the food tastes like a salt-shaker isn't even used once and I have to make a small down payment afterwards? No, thank you. How extremely disappointing. Truly. If you look for 'brunch' spots this place comes up along with a few others and at this point, every single one of them has been better than Toast.

I've read reviews complaining about how this isn't Authentic Mexican Food. Do you know what I care…read moreabout when I go to a restaurant? I care if the food is good. If I want authentic Mexican food, I'll go to Mexican Town. Camellia's has good food, and I was happy I stopped here to eat. First, I'll start with maybe the most inauthentic item first. The chorizo and ground beef "sliders" were actually 2 burgers in regular-sized buns. Each had maybe 3 ounces of meat, and they were good, Not "I can feel the breeze off the beach in Cancun" good, but it was good with a smear of pretty authentic-tasting guacamole. We ordered chips with guacamole as a starter, and these seem to be pretty darned authentic chips. They were sturdy, with a terrific corn flavor, and a nice crunch to them. Definitely not Tostitos. The large amount of not-authentic-Mexican fries served with the "sliders" were excellent skin-on shoestring fries. My wife ordered chicken and steak fajitas. She didn't like the steak, saying it was too chewy. I have to say, it was maybe a tough cut of steak, and it was a bit overly salty, but I liked the flavor. The chicken was good, with a bit less seasoning. The rest consisted of all the things you expect in fajitas, and all of it was solid. I liked the drink selection. There were actually more Mexican beers here than I have ever seen in Mexican Town. Negra Modelo on tap? I wish I were able to get that when I go downtown, but I'm glad I was able to get a large glass for a reasonable price here. There were a lot of different flavors of margaritas. My wife loved the peach margarita she ordered. There were two waitresses, and a mostly full house, and they were able to keep up with the demand. The price was reasonable for the large portions of food, too. I'm not giving up on the delicious food in Mexican town, but I definitely wouldn't mind coming back here again for something less authentic, but still tasty.

I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. After last night's experience I will think twice…read moreabout returning. I wasn't too hungry and ordered an a la carte veggie burrito for $3.99. My partner ordered a full meal. The server did not tell me that there would be an EXTRA charge of $2.99 to make my a la carte burrito a veggie one (a chicken or beef one would be $3.99). What a surprise when getting the bill. And all the veggie burrito consisted of was onions, green peppers, tomatoes and lettuce. Why would this cost extra? Ridiculous. Between surprises like this and having to pay for chips and salsa, it's a wonder this place stays in business. It's a shame as the food is good.

A true example of "don't judge a book by its cover". We walk in, non peak, with eight folks and they have no issues with us. Quickly seated, orders taken, food delivered. Bam bam bam! The staff has always been great to us and now to our friends. The food is off-the-chain delicious. primarily Ukrainian fair, but you can find several other options and there's ALWAYS something for everyone. For the first five years I came here I ordered Christine's Famous Bomb Burrito. It's that good and I wasn't going to dive into the questionable stuff on the menu. Shame on me! Baba's Pierogis and their Potato Pancakes are wonderful but I recommend the Combo Platter so you can also experience the sausage and the sauerkraut (Kapusta). A quick chuckle: Mrs. E. only eats cold borscht. So we order it and it cools on the table and becomes our dessert. Most everyone I introduce to Christine's become regulars and it ain't because of me! 08/25
