A small diner located on 11 Mile several blocks from the party/main strip. Small private lot. Typical Michigan diner food menu. Staff was nice, food was good and not expensive for Royal Oak. Clean

Wow. Stumbled upon this place just looking for some breakfast on a Sunday after the gym. We packed our patience as most places in Royal oak are just slow and the wait is crazy. We walk in and we are sat immediately (). The place has a number of people but they seem to be managing nicely. Server takes our order and brings drinks right away. () In what seemed like less than ten minutes we had a hot meal on our table. I'm floored. The food was amazing, service was awesome and entire experience was surprising. The staff is cleaning, clearing dishes, refilling glasses.... WOW!!! I will definitely be back ..

My son lives in the Royal Oak area, and this restaurant is very close to his house. Him and his girlfriend discovered it recently and it is now their new favorite restaurant. The prices are incredibly reasonable and the food is really delicious. The waitress was very friendly, and the food came out very fast, and everything was fresh.

Hash browns, requested well done for takeout, given white mushy bland potatoes as usual.

Went again to give another chance. Last time. The woman that took our order kept saying they were "busy" and after asking three times for well done hashbrowns to be well done, guess what? They were still barely cooked, but at least not the same mashed potato fare as last time. We will not be going here again, if you're too busy to actually cook something properly that's a really shit sign of a restaurant. Too busy is not an excuse to not cook something.

This is the type of place that both EBS and I love to try, small business with a wide range of choices. While he would have loved the large portions, I am eating light but always try save room and calories for dessert. I know it is hard to mess up grilled cheese, but still it was just like the grilled cheese sandwich you grew up loving, simple and served with pickles (which would have been wasted on EBS). Chocolate ice cream hit the spot. I took a star off because they allow people in without masks. Single use menus, social distancing, staff in masks, hand sanitizer, and other measures follower. Since I have my PT near here, I do look forward to coming back. Not as trendy as others in this city, but good food at a great price is better than trendy any day.

Country Skillet Breakfast

New favorite breakfast spot in the area, hands down. Everything you could want for breakfast, priced well, and executed correctly. I've tried a lot of diners in the area, and it's surprising how difficult making something so simple, simply taste good, can be (Alex's, Berkley Coney, The Avenue). I think this really comes down to ingredient quality, and attention to detail (seasonings, ingredient ratio per dish, etc), which this place seems to have down. I was also pleasantly surprised with their selection of lattes, cappuccinos, etc. Often, the only downside to choosing a coney/diner style restaurant for breakfast instead of getting a coffee + breakfast sandwich/similar directly from your favorite coffee spot is that you're settling for subpar coffee in leu if a satisfying meal. Not here!! I ordered a caramel latte and was genuinely pleased with the flavor and presentation - served in a lidless 16 or 20oz to-go cup with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. You can then grab a lid on your way out to carry it with you for the rest of your morning. In short, the food was delicious and the service was great. Very pleased to have discovered this place!

Gyro Omlette

Always a good portion of food and good service. Gyro omelette is my go-to. A lot of feta, tomato and onion. Maybe a little too much onion. The Bacon Jalepeno Benedict was a special. It was good, not spicy but it was hard to cut through the bacon.

Pancakes

Great food, fast service, awesome prices, clean restaurant! I had the Deuces Wild which tasted great and my daughter loved the pancakes. We had Kathy as our server who was so friendly! We'll definitely be coming back again!

The people working here were so friendly and personable with literally everyone that walked in the door. The service was top notch. It is also the most adorable place giving vibes of Lamy's food counter at Henry Ford Museum. I loved all of the options on the menu and it was so hard just picking a couple items to try. We had chicken tacos. They were so good and so fresh, I loved the sauce on top. Honestly, I am not sure if it was cheese or a sour cream type mixture, but it was creamy and flavorful. I also had the torta which was absolutely incredible. It had the same chicken as the taco. The chicken was slow cooked or stewed and shredded and was so flavorful, like a homecooked chef's kiss. The bread was fresh. I loved the sauce poured over it, making it a dipped and soaked sandwich. The carrots and cilantro, sliced radishes and sliced fresh jalapenos added a level of crunch, freshness and deeper flavor profile. I would want to get this every time. We also tried their delicious "curly" fries, which were like julienned shoestring fries fired fresh. It seemed like every dish was made fresh and right in front of you. So worth it, plus the prices are great. I would love to try their fried chicken plate, their breakfast sandwiches, and their other desserts. We talked to the man behind the counter who seemed like maybe a manager. He gave us their famous chocolate chip cookie to try. It was fresh baked and delicious. I would love to take home more of those. It looked so simple but was better than many bakeries specializing in cookies alone. He also gave us an second order of fries to take home with my leftovers, just top notch kindness and service. This man told us that OWL owns other restaurants and we would probably like them. I am open to trying more of their group but I do want to return here. This is one of those diners you would find being profiled for best kept secret or gourmet home cooked foods under the guise of fast food.

I've had the torta, birria street tacos, and breakfast sandwiches, and I must say that all are SO yummy. While the street tacos are a bit small, they're still a great option for a quick pick-me-up! I'd also highly recommend the horchata and hibiscus juice. The hibiscus juice, in particular, has such a refreshingly sweet, tangy flavor. Love this place so much! Service is a bit hands-off due to the space, but workers are attentive and welcoming.

They biscuit cut is a large portion so I usually go for a one biscuit with gravy and a poached egg on the top. Perfection! Parking situation update, seems they have an agreement to let people park in the Main Street Kitchen lot along the south side of their building. This opens up a lot of parking options since their actual lot is always full and a dead end so it's awkward to maneuver your exit if you don't find a spot. Also post office on a Sunday is also available. Or the city hall lot we've done on holidays or weekends. We've almost always gone as a pair and been able to get seating during the in between times of breakfast and lunch; some say brunch on weekdays or after the lunch rush around 1pm. During the summer the few tables outside have been empty so we snag those. Food is quick and coffee or orange juice are very good. I ordered the Mediterranean skillet, lemon pancakes, and a side of biscuits and gravy. Yes, this was a heavy breakfast! The Mediterranean skillet had plenty of feta, which I LOVED but it was dry overall. There was no sauce to really bring everything together. I even got eggs over medium and the egg yolk did not add much creaminess. It was good, just not my favorite thing I've eaten. The lemon pancakes were absolutely unreal. Sooo fluffy and the cream cheese frosting was incredible. I would 100% recommend them. I also tried a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was very thick, which was not my favorite, but the gravy itself was amazing, but it's the white super peppery kind, which I know is not everybody's favorite! Again, just kind of dry, even with the gravy. The service was good, and for a Saturday around 11 AM, the 20 minute wait was totally reasonable. I would definitely come back, just probably not for the skillet next time.

My friend ordered house made corned beef hash with eggs, & cheese grits (gave it a 9/10) the grits needed some salt & pepper; and a Cinnabunn pancake (we give that a 12/10). The pancake was fire!!! I tasted a piece and wanted to order my own. My other friend ordered the crème brule chicken & waffles - she gave it a 9/10. I ordered an egg white omelet with turkey sausage, chicken, spinach & bell peppers. It was good but a little too runny for my liking. It came with fruit and whole wheat bread. I asked for strawberry jam and they brought me a homemade strawberry sauce that was soooo good! I give my meal an 7.5/10. Overall, the place is cute and pretty spacious with lots of seating. I finally got to try Toast in Ferndale for brunch!…read more The parking situation is a small lot behind the back and finding a spot on a weekend morning wasn't easy! We didn't have reservations so we did have to wait a while for a table. But, Toast made it manageable with an outdoor waiting area where you can order drinks from the bar. By the way, the outdoor area is not fully insulated, just sectioned off with clear tarp, so it can still feel a little chilly. However, it was nice having somewhere sit and mingle instead of just standing around by the door. Now to the good part: My table ordered the trashy hashy, toast egg sammy, and a muddled strawberry vanilla iced matcha. I started off with the iced matcha and ended with the egg sammy with a side of parmesan grits. The matcha was a little watery but good. The sandwich was super flavorful but very messy. I had to ask for extra napkins after but the mess was totally worth the flavor! I can't wait to come back! I'll be prepared with reservations next time!

My sister then asked to speak with a manager. When the manager came over, the other ladies in our group also mentioned the waitress's attitude. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, the general manager became defensive and stated that the waitress did not have a nasty attitude. He then told us that if we wanted to leave, we could leave because he was not going to be bothered with us. He took our menus and asked us to leave simply because we requested that the table be cleaned properly. I would love to see better service and customers treated with respect! Ms Cheryl W.

I used to live nearby about 25 years ago and remember coming to a diner in this area for breakfast back then. Fast forward to today--this isn't the same place, but wow, it's absolutely amazing. Right away I loved the vibe. The chalkboards with handwritten menu items and daily specials on the walls give the place so much character and charm. It feels welcoming, classic, and cool all at the same time. The customer service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I ordered the country breakfast, which came with biscuits and gravy, eggs, toast, potatoes, and sausage--everything was spot on. I'm usually not a big hash browns person, so I really appreciated that they offer an alternative to the shredded style. I went with the cubed breakfast potatoes (not sure what they officially call them), and they were so much better--crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Between the food, the service, and the overall atmosphere, this place completely won me over. I already know I'll be back next weekend.
