This place is open one day closed for four days with no life at all. They have very scattered hours. Couple of the local business owners have said they've seen what may be the owner sleeping in one of the booths without pants on. I would think this should be a health violation I. My friend swears by their Greek salads, so we finally headed into Apovini Grill to try for myself. Staff are friendly and attentive. They were on it regarding filling up our drinks and checking if we needed anything else. The décor is a little outdated and tired looking. However, the place was clean and welcoming. Lots of options for food whether you are in the mood for breakfast or lunch/dinner. Ordered the chicken lemon rice soup and it was okay, I would've liked a little more lemon punch and flavor. Greek salad wise, you can order your salad to be chopped up for an extra $3.00 which is a little much? I also upgraded to chicken and the chicken was phenomenal. The chicken was cooked perfectly and had a delicious marinate/seasoning. The Greek salad itself was delicious - tasted fresh and was very filling. I got the small and barely could finish it. This restaurant is such a staple in Troy. Family owed business that has been open over 20 + years. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner and most everything is homemade. The staff is friendly and I always come here for a Greek Chicken Salad. The portion size is big and you will end up taking half home for later. The chicken is grilled is so juicy and the marinade and spices will leave you craving to come back for more. They also make their own dressing. Definitely will NOT be coming back here after the experience I had here earlier today. My father and I came in here at 11am and we had ordered breakfast. The server we had was ABSOLUTELY rude and unfriendly. We waited 45 minutes and we saw two other tables who came in after we did received their food and when we asked where our food was, they kept saying "oh it's coming" and then my father received his food but yet they were still working on mine when all I had ordered was an omelette. We were so annoyed we walked out of there. Normally I don't do something like that, but when I have to wait for food that long and yet they were still working on it when it was almost an hour?! Horrible. I ordered food to go and when I got to the office it was missing items and the server placed my drink in a bag. When I opened the bag, the drink was all over my food. I have been going here since high school(many moons ago) and their portions and prices have gotten out of control. A regular Greek with no meat was almost 15 bucks! And their famous pink Greek dressing seems really watered down now. It used to be really thick and flavorful. Also, the lettuce was not cut uniformly at all(who wants to eat a 4 inch pieces of lettuce?) and there was barely any toppings. Since I'm a sucker for take away I will probably be back but I hope they stop watering down their dressing! read more

BEWARE OF THE $2.50 CHOPPING FEE that the server doesn't tell you about until after you get the bill and question the price I ordered a large Apovini Salad, chopped, and a diet soda. They gave me one large dressing that didn't even come close to dressing the entire salad so I asked for one more and was handed a small container. I ordered one more and the waitress informed me I would be charged an additional 75 cents which was fine at the time, until... I got my bill and it was 19.26 for a salad and soda!!!!!! Are you kidding me?! They are basically a Coney Island so this was a huge rip off. I could have ordered a salad at the Capital Grill for roughly the same price! I'll be ordering my salads elsewhere! Listen up. This place is the reason bad things happen. It's the reason I drink. It's the reason my dog ran away as a child. I was having a perfectly pleasant day and then I entered this god forsaken establishment. I ordered my food for carry out at 12:05pm and I arrived at the restaurant around 12:30. I was told the food would take 30 minutes to come out. First of all, the organization of the building is abysmal. I was told to stand near the bar to wait for my order, and I was bumped into by waitresses every 30 seconds. You're probably thinking, "well stand somewhere else." Oh and I did. There is not a single spot in this restaurant where you will not be in someone's way. Some of the waitresses even had the audacity to yell at me for being in the way. I finally got my food at 1:10 (over an hour later) and the order was wrong. It was sent back to be corrected. Here I am now at 1:20 leaving with my (hopefully) correct order. You do not want to eat here. You want to eat gas station hot dogs before you eat here. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

Apovini is a step above the usual coneys like National or Kerbys for sure. In fact, it's really more family restaurant than coney. Very reminiscent of Sam's Ferndale Grill (whom I love). Been here three times with the huband; twice for dinner, once for breakfast. I've had the chicken parmesan, gyro platter and eggs/bacon/hashbrowns/pancakes for breakfast. Everything has been fantastic, right down to the pre-dinner soup (which may be homemade). The chicken parm was a crispy chicken breast, which is nice because a lot of coney-style restaurants just throw cheese on a grilled chicken breast. The spagetti was NOT overdone to oblivion and the sauce was scratch and delicious. The gyro is of high quality from an actual gyro rotisserie and the cucumber sauce is scratch as well. Breakfast was a homerun with perfectly cooked eggs, bacon and pancakes. Service is always friendly and pleasant. read more

Their Apovini House Salad is the balls. Yes...I said balls. Garlicky, loaded with delicious chicken breast, bacon AND swiss, it's a heart attack in a bowl. Their house dressing, like someone else mentioned, is alot like a greek and compliments the salad perfectly. This is honestly the only thing I have ever had there but everything on their menu look's great. It's not "coney" cheap but it's by no means expensive. They could charge double for a small Apovini salad ($10) and would have no problem paying it, it's that good. Not crazy about the pita bread, which comes to you grilled. Nice, warm bread is a plus but I am one of those salad geeks that likes to stuff my pita with all the goodies and it's impossible with their flat triangles. The restaurant is always incredibly clean and during lunch, plan on waiting for a table. No worries though, the turnover of tables is quick. If you are there during the week at 12-ish and you want to be able to sit and chat with your tablemates, you may want to go somewhere else. They have no problem shoo-ing you out. At lunch, you sit, you order, you eat, you leave. No time to lolligag. Still...the staff is really friendly and efficent. A second location recentley opened at 15 and John R. and it's a beautiful spot. They close early on Saturday's, which stinks because later day carry-out eats isn't possible. One slight negative, the staff at the 15/John R location isn't nearly as friendly or efficent. I don't believe English is their native tongue which is all fine and good but when it comes to customer service, it's nice to be able to communicate. All and all...I have never been disappointed in the food. Everyone should experience their signature salad atleast once. I'll say it again...it's the balls. read more

Food is good, not great. Prices are higher than indicated. Been here a couple of times and the service is abysmal at best. Servers are rushed and asking for your order before the menu has even been opened. After you get your food, the server pulls a vanishing act so you have to approach the counter to get the check. Being just around the corner, I heard such great reviews of Apovini from friends, that I just had to try it! Upon entering I was surprised to see it was just your average looking diner on the inside, with those 90's-style country-mom-chic flowery pastel accents. The upside - there was lots of booths and room to sit! When we got our menus, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of options to choose from. I have heard rave reviews of the salads, but I went ahead and ordered a stacked ham & cheese. The service was good and our food came quickly. My sandwich was just m'eh. It wasn't anything to write home about. As a matter of fact it tasted like one I could easily make. Maybe it was my fault for not ordering something grander?? This was about 6 months ago and we haven't been back. I would probably go back if I didn't have better options within minutes of the restaurant, but generally, I still don't understand what all the hype was about. read more

Finally got Bob to Aprovini Grill for lunch today only to discover I hadn't Yelped it yet. Great place for anything with grilled chicken on it. Make sure that what you order specifies marinated grilled chicken. The salads are huge, I always get the small because the large come in a mixing bowl, not a salad bowl. I however ordered a chicken noodle soup because I was looking for something light - very little chicken and vegetable and a LOT of noodles. I would not order again. The waitress brought my soup out 10min before the rest of the table- which would normally be great if that weren't my entire meal. When the rest of the table got their food I requested I could swap my soup out for a warm soup because I didn't want to be finished when everyone else was starting their meals. Apovini is a nice break from the usual National Coney Islands, Leo's and Kerby's (are they still around?) that one might be accustomed to in suburban Detroit. A spotless restaurant with your standard coney Greek style decor -- yet more on the minimal side and minus the cheese -- although there are a few flatscreen televisions but nothing obnoxious. They have some of the juiciest and tastiest gyro meat I've ever had. Just marvelous with a generous serving size (doggy bag? yes pleeze!). The wait staff is composed of teenagers (possibly owner's family) but thankfully these aren't your slacker types -- polite and professional. My only critique -- menu is a tad bit unimaginative -- would look to see a few unique Greek dishes to spice things up a bit. But other than that, Apovini is #WINNING.. no Charlie Sheen. read more

We had gotten into a rut going to the same places for breakfast on the weekends, so we thought we would give this place a try because they look pretty steady busy when we've gone by, and the restaurant has a generally pleasant appearance from the outside. I've only ever had one thing here - the Greek chicken salad, but I've probably had that 20 times. A friend introduced me to this salad and I love it so much I've never been able to bring myself to try anything else. Lots of well seasoned chicken, onions, feta, olives, and an awesome house made dressing (I always get mine with no beets because I personally think beets are gross) on a ton of crispy lettuce. The dressing is so awesome - I forget what they call it, but it is sort of a creamy Greek raspberry dressing - my mouth is watering just thinking about it! I've only eaten in a handful of times, but the restaurant is clean, bright, and fairly spacious for a Coney. A big step up from the average Coney. I love Apovini, even though I've only eaten two things on the menu. The gyro is good, but the Apovini salad is awesome! For $8 (the "small"), you get a big bowl of iceberg lettuce, half a tomato, sliced cucumber, maybe 1/3 lb of heavily marinated and grilled chicken breast, bacon and Swiss cheese. So it's not a healthy salad. Most times, I skip the bacon and cheese, but sometimes... oh boy. And the cheese melts a little on the freshly-grilled chicken. Mmm... Anyway! Order the house dressing. It's pink! It's an opaque, sweet dressing that tastes like a cross between Italian and Greek. It's so good that I pour half on my salad and dip my pita into the rest. They also do a real village salad here (ie, no lettuce), but the feta isn't that great. It's okay, but it's not real feta. (Feta should be a little creamy, and sharp enough to sting a little.) Also, the place is spotlessly clean and the staff is really nice. I took off a star because twice the bathroom was really smoky (but spotless), and that made me stinky. read more

Like a Coney Island, but better and cleaner. Based on a previous reviewers statement, I asked for the gyro sauce (dill and cucumber = yummy) for my omelet and it was so good! I had an egg white omelet and it was a little too greasy for my tastes. My husband had the ceasar chicken wrap and said he would have it again. He also had the clam chowder.
