Loved the friendly service and sunny neighborhood cafe vibe when you walk in! Sandwiches were yummy, with fresh ingredients and hearty bread shining through as the stars!! The bread that the Clong is made on is absolutely delicious. I usually like my sandwiches a little more saucey so would maybe ask for more on the side but overall thought these were beautifully curated and filling!! Would definitely be back to try more :)

Clong sandwich

I love that this little sandwich uses fresh ingredients and changes up their menu. It's very unique and uses great fresh breads. We tried the spicy mortadella and the Clong turkey sandwich. Of the two, I preferred the Clong. Both sandwiches were good, but I was expecting something craveable based on the reviews and this wasn't that. the sandwiches are fairly pricey and not overly huge. While I appreciate the quality and creativity, the flavor factor just wasn't there for me or my family. If you visit, definitely try to go on a day and time that Secret Bakery (their next door neighbor) is also open. All in all, it's worth trying for sure.

Spicy mortadella- delightful sandwich with the perfect bite on the bread; it's not overly crunchy, it's nice and doughy. Service was spot on, happy and helpful folks making great recommendations. That's how I got the pot de crème, it's one luxurious little treat. Much more complexity than just a sugary dessert, it's got layers of flavor. The place has a "portal" to The Secret Bakery. It's a beautiful spot in every way and delicious food will keep them busy for years.

Tall Trees is primarily a carry-out operation. IIRC; only five(?) two-top tables. The menu is small. The sandwiches are excellent, but spendy, no bargains here. The ingredients are top drawer and the portion size is generous. For me, the bread is the star. Very good tastes, but my Clong sandwich needed something more. Maybe a dash of spicy mustard or maybe an acidic tomato? The downsides: - Noisy, very noisy, once the lunch rush starts - The door lacks a closer and 6+ customers could not be bothered to close the door on a 48F day. Will I return? Possibly. TTC is not convenient for me and the value prop is not worth a 20+ mile drive.

A vibe! I'm excited!

Tofuletta sandwich

I both love and hate the fact that I work a block away from this place because I now want to eat lunch there every day they are open. All the sandwiches I have tried so far have been amazing - my current favorite is the tofuletta even though I'm not vegetarian. The olive relish is that good. Service is always friendly and efficient even when they are busy. Seating is limited though i just take mine back to my office!

Spicy Mortadella on focaccia bread.

Went for the Clong and the Spicy Mortadella. Unfortunately, the semolina roll for the Spicy Mortadella was sold out and I had to have focaccia bread instead. Both excellent anyway. Really wanted the semolina roll. Service was friendly even though the restaurant was packed. Funky Ferndale vibe.

Matt & Mo's - Pepperoni Pizza Puff

The sandwich originated in Chicago, so I like that Matt & Mo's has a replica of Wrigley Field's ivy wall. On the flip side, I didn't like being charged a 4% fee for paying with a card. My wife ordered a pepperoni pizza puff along with French fries. The pizza puff fell apart too easily, and was basically a larger version of a Totino's pizza roll. The fries were standard. With my sandwich, I ordered poutine. The consistency and flavor of the gravy made the poutine much better than average. As for the Italian beef, it did not disappoint. I regret getting just sweet peppers, as I should have gotten either hot or mild peppers with the sweet. I did get the whole sandwich dipped in au jus, which was the right move. This was my first time having an Italian beef, so it's hard to judge, but I definitely enjoyed it. Next time, I will bring cash to pay, and might even try some of the other menu items. I look forward to trying Doug's Delight, as well.

I ordered the combo which is possibly the best sandwich I've ever had. Moist/well-seasoned beef, garlic bread with just right amount of garlic, italian sausage, and I added provolone as well. Everything meshed together perfectly.

Public House - Heritage Hang and Classic Hotrod!

The space is adorable and welcoming and the staff were just as welcoming and helpful to us, as first-timers. Public House has an extensive vegan menu that they are pretty proud of. We however opted for the regular Pastrami Hash and Chicken & Waffles. Both were delightful from taste to texture! The chicken was fried and seasoned to perfection. The fresh veggies and amazing mornay sauce made the pastrami dish my personal favorite. We look forward to trying them intentionally very soon!

In fact, several of my friends traveled to the area specifically to visit Public House. Sadly, the menu has changed and there are no only three items on the menu for Vegans. The items are the Strawberry Shortcake, which was a prior favorite, but has been reduced in its appeal by the omission of the vegan cream that topped it off and the other items are a Burrito Bowl, which is available anywhere you go through the addition and deduction of conventional food items, and the Chik n waffle. This reduced menu of three items compared to the 24 + conventional items on the menu is extremely disappointing. Service wise the greeting at the front door was very slow when there was only one other patron in front of us. It literally took 10 minutes to be greeted and the restaurant was not full compared to its previous more appealing times for Vegans where you really did have to wait. The staff was over all very friendly and accommodating. You couldn't ask for a nice group of people. And the diversity of the team is amazing....it is noticed and valued! The strawberry shortcake without the whip cream is good but the vegan whipped cream makes a difference and was notably missing. The Bloody Mary was pretty good. Overall...it's a ok place for Vegans but no longer a great place us.

I went to Leo's Coney Island in Royal Oak this evening, and let me just say... the highlight of the…read morenight was me leaving. Me and my friend walked in -- literally the only customers in the whole place -- and the employee with the blonde hair acted like we were interrupting her silent retreat. Barely acknowledged us, moved slower than dial-up internet, and eventually brought us tap water... with no straws. Okay, fine. Maybe she was having a moment. But then an older gentleman walks in. Suddenly she's Miss Hospitality -- greeting him, smiling, bringing him water and a straw like she was auditioning for "Server of the Year." She finally returns to us and immediately blurts out, "I can't split the check." ...Ma'am, we haven't even ordered yet. Why are we talking about checks when no food has touched this table? My friend orders. I start to order my drink and before I can even finish, she cuts me off with, "Are you ordering food?" Her tone, impatience, and overall energy were so off that I genuinely had to ask if she was okay. And somehow that offended her. At that point, it was clear her issue wasn't confusion or a bad day -- it was who she chose to treat respectfully and who she didn't. So I told her I wouldn't be ordering anything and walked out. If you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience in an empty restaurant, by all means, stop by. Otherwise, save your time, energy, and appetite -- there are plenty of places in Royal Oak where the staff actually acknowledges your existence and gives you a straw without a personality test.
