Latte art class
Maisha R.

This review is for the latte art class I took here at Dessert Oasis. For years, I have been trying and failing to master latte art, so when my friends and I saw DO offering this beginner's class, we knew we had to go. The two hour class was informative and immensely helpful, including both didactic and hands on approaches. We reviewed the basics, spent some time learning to steam the perfect textured milk, and each had at least two attempts to practice the heart shaped art. You can see from the photos how much progress I was able to make between my two attempts - I was ecstatic! I've since been practicing my new skills and learning at home, and am forever grateful for DO for offering these awesome community classes!

Track in the Snow latte and blueberry muffin

I drive past this spot all the time when going to visit my family so finally popped in. It was a chill day and not to crowded. I wasn't sure what I wanted but they had a specialty drink on display so I went with that and a blueberry muffin. They take your order and deliver to your table if you dine in. My drink was aesthetically pleasing and very yummy but I was a little surprised that they gave me a piping hot drink in a glass with no handle. I also expected it to be a little sweeter considering the ingredients that were in it ( coconut cream, graham cracker cream, marshmallows, etc.). I'm not sure if the muffin was gluten free but it was super dry and crumbly. The flavor was good but I did not enjoy the texture and would not get again.

The people working here could not be any nicer but our first experience here was a rough start. we love the Rochester location and heard they set up a roaster with a coffee shop attached. I believe this is their headquarters where they roast their coffee and make their baked goods. When you come in you see the register and baked good case and a few spots to sit and then there is a larger area to sit down a small incline in the flooring. They have an interesting open seating area with art on the walls. They also see some merch here. There seems to be a classroom and some restrooms off to the side. The menu is fairly simple. They seem to offer less than the Rochester location and had less cheesecakes or baked good than the other location. When we arrived it was not incredibly busy and the people helping us were very nice. They gave us our card and told us they would bring us our drinks. We waited for nearly half an hour while others came and went and got their drinks and treats. Finally we asked and they admitted they forgot about us. They were very gracious and very apologetic and then brought us some drinks and cheesecake. I love their cheesecake. It is very good and less than $6 a slice. While it is no Cheesecake Factory, you are going to get a nice slice for a lot less. If you like cheesecake I highly recommend trying their cake. As far as the coffee does, they are always very aesthetic and nice to look at, but their mochas were not very strong and did not taste like there was any chocolate in it, and their hot cocoa also did not have a strong chocolate flavor, it was very faint. I like their coffee, it is smooth, but I would have liked it a bit stronger, hotter, and more flavoring (chocolate which I am not sure was even in there, it tasted like a plain latte). I would not give up on this location. It is newer and we like to support local. This location is located in the subdivisions of Ferndale and not downtown, so I am not sure how often we would make it over here, but we will visit a Dessert Oasis location again soon.

Cute coffee shop so many seats available. Nice pastry and drink options. Tried the Kyoto sencha tea and the matcha latte before. Enjoyed both 9/10

“The Kerouac is essentially an earl gray tea latte with lavender and cinnamon, I got it with whole milk and it is earthy and a little sweet.”

We stumbled across this coffee shop on a list of Best Coffee in Metro Detroit. We live about 30…read moreminutes away but were willing to make the drive in our quest to find the best cup of coffee. There is a relatively small parking lot on site, and it did get a little hectic trying to get in and out. It does look like you can also park in the neighborhood which might be worth the small walk to avoid having to make a right turn in the lot. The outside of the building is very cute and I love that the sign is painted right on the wall directing us where to go. The inside is extremely small as they were originally only intending to roast the coffee at this location. They did add in a ledge adjacent to the counter that had multiple high top chairs available, but there is no other seating inside. This would be great for a solo person having coffee. They do have ample seating right outside on their beautiful patio. They have put time and effort into creating this space, which can be seen in the lovely wood furniture and the flowers they have planted. They also have a pergola over the patio that provides shade. Attached to the pergola is the sign which is also lovely. They have a sandwich board right outside the door letting you know that they are open. The baristas took their job very seriously and were taking the time to weigh out both the beans and the milk. They have a standard menu that is easy to navigate, and for flavored lattes they offered both vanilla and honey that sounds great. I chose to go with the honey iced latte, and then we also ordered an iced vanilla latte and a flat white.y brother in law is from Australia, and we are ALWAYS trying to find him a decent flat white. Every time it is on a menu we will order it. For the first time in YEARS a flat white finally got his seal of approval. You could tell that the care the baristas put into the preparation made all of the difference. After visiting I told my neighbors (who are also big coffee snobs) about Kazkara and they visited the very next morning and also gave their stamps.of approval! Kazkara will now have multiple people from West Bloomfield making the 30 minute drive for a good cup of coffee.

Was able to even purchase a bag of their beans for home. There is indoor and outdoor seating, with ample amount of parking spaces on site as well. The baristas were also super friendly and welcoming. Would definitely return the next time I'm in town!

They also sell some really cute merch, like mugs, hats, stickers, etc. In terms of drinks, I got their seasonal iced apple cardamom latte, and it had a very smooth coffee flavor and I loved that it wasn't too sweet! Baristas were also very friendly and conversational and repeated my order back to me just to make sure they got it right, and my drink was ready in just a few minutes. They were also frequently tidying up the tables, which I really appreciated!

Served in a paper cup only, it was not very hot and didn't stay hot as long as it would in a mug. A 12 oz mocha was over $5.00, small by comparison with many other coffee shops. The flavor tended to be sweet without the richness of a dark chocolate espresso flavor we enjoy. On a Saturday afternoon, the place was packed. Wait time in the line was not bad but there was not much open seating for enjoying our coffee. In fact, when a table opened up, another customer literally cut in front of me to grab the seat. Not the fault of the owners yet also not the vibe I enjoy in a coffee shop. Sadly, we are not likely to return.

We entered in on Mother's Day expecting a full house, but found ourselves confused when there was no one in the store. We ended up saying hello repeatedly in the store until someone came out of the back a couple of minutes later. While this came as a confusion, it wasn't the first time it's happened in the establishment when I've entered in. However, I must say I absolutely love the aesthetics and delicious goodies themselves! Ordered a Honey ginger tea and Arasi smoothie. $13.48 A staffer had us try their zero sugar ice cream, vanilla and mango. I am not a big fan of vanilla, it's too plain to me. They have an Oreo cone, that's unique. Pastries look interesting, but not appetizing though. The ginger honey tea is quite odd, not a big fan. The spices are not so good. It's got an odd taste that hits the back of my tongue and throat and makes it taste off somehow. My husband likes it less than me. This tea would have been left ad ginger and honey only. The odd concoction of spices made it really tough to drink. Like a bad medicine going down. They gave us a Boba straws and it doesn't fit inside the slot for the smoothie at all. The Vimto isn't for me, tastes like syrup to me. Smoothie would be better with mango only. We swapped drinks, since each of us could tolerate one drink over the other.
