Think it used to be a wine or spirit bar before. Still has the large curved bar to order and pickup your orders. The wicker chairs look a bit weather and the cushions are quite filthy. We sat on the pleather leather couch for a bit while we waited for our drinks. Think it might be good to tack down the rug in the front entry as well as the main cafe area, the ends are curled up and could be a tripping hazard for someone. Ordered a 16 ounce PB&J latte iced with oat milk and a 13 ounce mango with tajin. Theresa recommended the PB&J as iced since the PB gets a bit funky as a hot drink. $16.96 The mango juice tastes quite syrupy to me, super sweet, not naturally mango sweet. The Tajin is fine. Drink wasn't good, not tolerable, would not get it ever again. At least my husband enjoyed his drink some. My husband enjoyed his uniquely different PB&J, said the jelly settled at the bottom comes up periodically

Back again to try the summer drinks! I must say, the banana pudding latte was a 10/10, so much better than I could've even imagined. Things they could do to improve: a baby changing station would be so nice. As well as earlier hours. They are definitely busy enough to open up early in the morning, which is always a plus for a place that serves caffeine! I can't wait to come back for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte, hopefully they add a baby changing station

The banana foster latte, which was one of their specials, was one of the best tasting lattes I've ever had! It was the perfect mix of sweet with a hint of saltiness. The cinnamon toast crunch latte was also delicious and lived up to its name. The space is so cute. I love all the greenery & boho vibes. It would be a peaceful place to work/study. They have a nice patio space too.

The short: Highly recommend this cozy cafe tucked away on fourth street! The service and drinks were both great! The long: My friends and I went on a cafe crawl and this was our first stop! Also, the Fern was the winner of our rankings! 8 of us sat for an hour and it was cozy, comfy, and easy to hang out there! The drinks were all hits and so were the food items! :)

I LOVE The Fern! Everything I've had there is delicious and the staff is very friendly. It's always super cozy in there with plenty of seating. They have a small business Saturday on certain weekends with local vendors and are very community oriented. One of my favorite cafes!

Sooo many new cafes, so little time. The Fern was a manual find, discovered while Googling the RO area for new coffee spot to try. Lo and behold, The Fern was found. It was a quite a vibe inside! Plenty of plants and greenery. Guess I should've known by the name lol! With plenty of of open floor seating, a well appointed bar, a garage style door that opens to a patio for warmer days, and The Notebook being projected onto a retractable screen, I can see The Fern being a destination! The best part was their seasonal Elvis latte, of which I failed to capture the ingredients of. I do remember peanut butter and marshmallow fluff, so I'm assuming there's banana flavoring as well. Either way, it was extremely tasty! Pricing was typical coffee shop nowadays. Man, inflation is a snitch! The owner, who also was my barista, was welcoming and informative. I could see myself hanging here, especially once the temps pop up and their patio opens!

Just went here after playing pickleball. I love the the coffee is off the main downtown royal oak area with plenty of street parking. The design and decor itself is so cute with the green paint on the outside and cute design on the inside. I got the Gingerbread Chai Latte with Quad shots and my drink came out delicious . The chai actually taste like chai. The service was also quick.

Wasn't sure if I was going to like anything because they don't have dairy and in the past I've never really liked my coffee with anything other than. I was pleasantly surprised with this drink, it actually kinda blew me away at how delicious it was. I like the variety of teas they have. I'll have to come back and try some. I'm not sure about the prices though, they seem kinda high. I would probably go more often if it were priced a little lower. I'll definitely be back. Good vibes.

Total vibe. Got this bomb drink (LOVE IN A CUP) tbh idk what's in it but it's refreshing not too sweet. Perfect for a summer day. Great open study place with friendly staff! Dog friendly! Just wish they had sandwiches or salads.

Banana pudding latte and the hazy latte !

Omg these coffee drinks are SO AMAZING! Unique and delicious- so many great drinks to choose from! Let's also talk about how the hospitality and customer service is 10/10, you must go here! Oh and can't forget about the zen yet fun ambiance, such a cute aesthetic! Thank you I love it here!

This is such a great spot to work or catch up with a friend. There's lots of room, tables and parking. The drink menu is extensive but the people working were very helpful with giving guidance and recommendations. I had a peach tea which was quite sweet and tasty. I will definitely be back to try their matcha soon.

Place has good vibes but doesn't have milk. Only oat and almond milk. Wouldn't go if you want actual milk.

Ridiculously priced. $6 for a tea with one tea bag. No customers were in there. Maybe that's a hint.

I don't think you'd have a bad time here, but I don't think the experience is likely to blow you away. --- Ambiance (4.5/5): The vibe is very pink, cute, and girly; I imagine that it'd make a great place to celebrate a special occasion with a group of your friends. It's currently February, but every table had fresh flowers in a vase, which really added to the overall ambiance. The only thing I didn't love was that the table that we were sat at was visibly dusty. There was quite a bit of debris on the table, booth chair, and a bit on the teacup saucers. We suspect it was probably stuff from a vent that was above the table. We chose not to make a big deal about it (there's a note inside the menu asking for some understanding for being short-staffed) and just dusted off the table ourselves, but I can imagine that this might be upsetting to others. --- Food (3.5/5): We (party of 2) opted to do the mini afternoon tea, which is a selection off 2 savories of our selection and 3 sweets selected by the chef, as well as two pots of tea for the group. For our savories, we selected cucumber and cream cheese and the turkey. The cucumber and cream cheese was just fine; the bread was a smidge dry, but otherwise an average tea sandwich. The turkey, however, was really excellent. It came as a mini croissant sandwich and the ingredients inside just all really worked well together. The sweets for us were 2 mini blueberry scones, 2 mini chocolate chip cookies, and 2 different macaron flavors, as well as 2 strawberries. Overall, the sweets were just fine. The scone was very moist, which I don't mind, but I think for an afternoon tea, I prefer it a smidge less moist so that I can have some clotted cream with it. The macarons were also fine, sitting somewhere between the ones at Whole Foods and the ones from Ladurée/similar. For us, the chocolate chip cookie was the least fun of the bunch; they reminded us of a mini version of the ones from Tate's Bake Shop, which is fine, but not quite what I'm looking for at tea. The teas were fine, just as we expected. We had ordered a fruitier one that ended up being more tart than expected, so we appreciated that there was honey at the table already. --- Service (4/5): The staff were friendly and fairly attentive. They brought us our second pot without us having to ask and let us know that if we were welcome to fresh teacups if we wanted. We were fine continuing to use our cups, but I appreciated the thought. The food also didn't take too long to come out. One thing that wasn't clear on the menu is that you have to agree on the savory selection for maybe the whole table? We were a party of 2, so I'm not sure if they handle it differently for a larger group. When perusing the menu, we had originally planned to select 4 different savories (2 each), but they came to take our order, they let us know that we both had to have the same 2 selections. I understand it's more efficient, but if I'd been out with people who had different palates or dietary needs than mine, I wouldn't have been too thrilled. We were also told that the pots of tea would come out one at a time and if we had a preference on which came first. They didn't make it seem like I could ask for both pots at the same time, but I saw another table of 2 receive two pots at the same time, so maybe I should've asked anyway. We have completely different preferences for tea (one of us doesn't drink caffeine and the other doesn't really like fruity teas), so having us share both pots kind of dampened our experience.
