A small, diner like, dining spot on the hot strip of 9 Mile in Ferndale. Very limited paid street parking, a larger paid city lot behind. It specializes in European street food merged with American street food choices. I had the Doner Kebab and it was really good. Large portions, even though the food is a little pricey. No alcohol. Water and drinks are in a cooler and may be purchased. Staff was nice.

Stopped by Balkan House for lunch and, wow, it is amazing! Located near downtown Ferndale, this place is small and comfy! The place is bustling and busy. We were seated quickly and our order was taken. It took a while for the food to come out but it was worth it! The food is reminiscent of Balkan cuisine and it showcases the meat. It was delicious and really good! Definitely worth checking out!

Pretty solid place! Located in Downtown Ferndale and easy to miss. We stopped here to get carryout on a Thursday evening and it wasn't busy but they had a lot of Doordash orders going out. It's counter service and they bring the food to you as soon as it's ready. Kind of glad we didn't eat in as the tables felt a little sticky. The food was very very good though and portions were huge which made me feel a little better about the prices. They give you a solid amount of meat in the bowl and I'm glad it wasn't just mostly rice. Sauce is delicious and the veggies tasted fresh. Fries were just okay and didn't taste very seasoned. On Thursdays they have a deal where you get a free side of fries and a drink if you get a doner kebab so I can't complain too much about a free item.

Fantastic fast casual place in downtown Ferndale. The food here is fresh, delicious, and plentiful. The staff was super friendly as well. Stopped in for lunch this weekend. I got the doner, wife got chicken sandwich. We split the fries and soup. The sandwiches were great...as I said, huge portions. The proteins on both were delicious and juicy. The veggies were crisp. The star was the garlic sauce. It was so good on the sandwiches that we ended up getting a side to dunk fires in Can't wait to go back

Logo of Balkan House menu and a signature Doner!

Switched things up and had the Doner bowl instead of the basket, and it was gone in a little more than 60-seconds. Wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff, and one-of-kind cuisine in Detroit area! Don't thank me, check it out! Reasonably priced as well.

Interesting, sorta familiar but not exactly. They specialize in "Doner" which I assumed would be most similar to middle eastern lamb/beef but it reminded me more of greek gyro. You order at a counter and then can sit (mostly tables for two). Then when it's ready they bring the food out. My husband had the Doner kebab and I had it on top of fries. It was like a salad with cucumber and tomatoes mixed with gyro and fries with a tasty sauce to put on top. It was pretty good. A large portion for sure. And I would consider having it again. Maybe a tad too much going on though. Hmmm.

On a recent trip to Royal Oak, I wanted to try something different for our meal. Balkan House was nearby and had good reviews, so it got our vote. Located in a cozy space on the main drag, we were immediately greeted by a friendly associate. She explained the menu to us when we ordered at the counter. I decided on the Balkan Basket - Döner Kebabs over French fries! We took our seat and only waited a short time before the food arrived. It hit the spot! Fresh ingredients with comforting flavors, and more than generous portion sizes. We left with happy hearts and full tummies. This is definitely a place to bookmark and visit again soon!

It would be four stars if not for the service. When we arrived, the two ladies (which I assume were the owners) were sitting outside smoking, and when they saw that we clearly wanted to eat at their place, they seemed to be irritated that we are disrupting their free time. This kind of behavior is so typical for Eastern European countries, I know it very well. So sad. Fortunately, the younger one got herself together and took our order with a better attitude. We sat outside awaiting. They don't have many tables outside, but it's still nice they have some. I'm very happy that they do offer some vegan items. Looking at their menu, they have plenty of vegan options to choose from. We both had the döner in a pita, my husband got the traditional one, and I went with vegan falafel. Both were very good. This was probably one of the best falafel I've had. Wish there was more sauce, I'm a saucy person, but there was no issue to get some more. We will try to visit them again, hopefully with a better chance of politeness from the staff.

As close to a döner kebab I've had here in the states. Friendly staff, clean restaurant, crispy fries. Turkish coffee was very good as well.

Love Balkan House! I ALWAYS get the Doner Kebab and they are huge portions, well seasoned lamb and the Doner sauce is so delicious and zesty I could eat it on literally anything! It reminds me of a tzatziki sauce but better! The bread itself is really good and toasty. These kebabs remind me of the ones I used to get in Spain! I could never find them here in America until I found Balkan House, so thanks for the delicious memories

Delicious wrap! The ingredients are fresh and I love the sauce. It's a good filling wrap. I'll definitely order from here again.

It's 7:05pm on a Wednesday night. Craved a Döner so bad. I am from Germany originally and drove 30 min from Novi to this place. Yelp said it's open until 8pm. So disappointed!!!!

We had the sausage, Langos, and Brussels sprouts for appetizers; the sea bass for the main entree; and several deserts (our favorite was the blueberry pastry type one). The service was very great and our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu. Probably the most surprisingly delicious thing I had was the Hugo spritz, I will literally go back for that one! I loved the atmosphere of the front part of the restaurant; however the back of the restaurant I felt was kinda lacking and I wish the put my group in the front part, especially since I made the reservation over a month ahead of time. My one complaint is that the prices were quite high - I have been to many foodie Detroit restaurants and am aware when I go to these restaurants that I will be spending a pretty penny. I felt for its location and the value of the food, I felt it was a little overpriced. I felt the appetizers were the best price for amount of food, but the entree and desert prices were hard to justify in my eyes. The next time I go back, I'll probably just get a bar seating and order the spritz with rigatoni and call it a day.

But Zana is easily one of the better fine dining experiences I've had in the state of Michigan. It also helped that I had dinner with some close friends who I haven't had many opportunities to spend time with in recent memory. The restaurant is located in downtown Birmingham, so by default it has to deliver on every front. It has such a beautiful and spacious dining area that makes you feel like you're at a VIP party. The menu is not lacking in options, with pretty much all the types of items you would expect from an upscale establishment. The oysters were so fresh, the harissa shrimp was outstanding, and my lamb chops were cooked to absolute perfection. We shared a lot of items, so we got a good idea of what this place offered and I don't think anyone in our party were disappointed. We ended up splitting the bill evenly between all of us and were surprised that we didn't spend more money. Zana really left a good lasting impression on us, so I hope that we will be just as satisfied when we make a return.

I was a little disappointed initially to be seated at the short bar as it makes me feel like I'm in elementary school due to the height, but this was a busy Saturday morning so I understood as it seems there are limited 2-tops, etc and this visit was at peak hours. It was nice to see the daylight coming through the windows which also made this a relaxing venue. While I was sitting there I was able to observe a lot as the short bar is next to the case displaying many delicious treats. I really laughed to myself as I noticed a couple of future Yelper's (one was 2-year toddler and his probably 4-5 year old sister (possibly celebrating a birthday) make a prompt trip to checkout the dessert offerings first! They were obviously "regulars". I was greeted by one of the wait staff, Mya, who was friendly, served me a coffee and indicated my server would be with me soon. I appreciated seeing the teamwork among the staff. I was eventually served by Owen who was helpful and I ordered an egg white frittata which came with a side of mixed fresh fruit. While I was waiting on my food, I had a vantage point where I could see several entrees come out. I also witnessed one of the two Chefs smiling as he was looking at and preparing the orders which I found interesting. The frittata included spinach, tomatoes, goat cheese, apple chicken sausage, and was delicious. I was still a little hungry, so I realized the future Yelpers mentioned earlier had it right, and I ordered a carrot cake cupcake which Owen mentioned was a good choice. The frosting was delicious and the moist carrot cake was tasty as well. The overall restaurant was hustling and bustling on this morning, I had my coffee cup refilled multiple times and even noticed additional children observing the case with the desserts. I enjoyed the overall experience and did not feel rushed at all, but more like a customer!
