Detroit's most unique hidden Gem next door to Detroit Art Institute. Small World Kitchen 5 different cuisines all made to perfection,  wondering why our local media doesn't show this small family business some Love.  Open 6 years now hidden in the basement of International Institute on Kirby with a big sign out front.  Open 11am till 4:30 Monday thru Saturday in a bright beautiful dining room. Baba, ma and daughter working in front of the house,  just walk up order take a seat. They bring your meal to the table.  Abe runs this cafe with his family, and always provides a delicious meal for an affordable price. It completely fits the location at International Institute to have a variety of ethnic dishes to choose from, and Abe has a way of bringing out the flavors in a dish that is hard to find for this price. A hidden lunchtime gem in the heart of the cultural district Detroit.   He's a Lebanese Master Chef trained in France,  the menu includes food and drinks from 5 unique cuisines and symbolizes the true inclusiveness of Detroit. See the website full menu and reviews https://small-world-kitchen.business.site/. We had a marvelous mixed plate of Indian Lamb and Chicken Curry with Naan bread. It was some of the very best ever eaten.  A delicious Falafel Plate with Tahini for dipping.  She had Chicken Tawook with Fatoush Salad and Hummus totally fabulous.  She had a bowl of Indian Daal Soup OMG such explosive flavor .  Please see all the great 5 star reviews around the web Yelp and Google,  place is a must visit for all you foodies.  Prices are cheaper than any restaurants Downtown Detroit,  hey they cater too.  #smallworldkitchendetroit @smallworldkitchendetroit #worldcusine #lambcurry #chickentawook #falafel #daalsoup #lowprices #detroithiddengems

Exploring the details of the building and the monthly artist they feature is worth the trip. People watching is another attraction. The Congregation pulls together a diverse group of people, reflecting the neighborhood it calls home. We are mocha snobs and thoroughly enjoyed our mocha prepared in a large mug. It was beautiful, rich and piping hot. This trio, we added a freshly sliced piece of banana chocolate chip bread. Look forward to trying some of their other menu offerings in the future. The staff worked efficiently and were friendly in an "urban setting" kind of way. Seating inside is ample yet also stayed full as this place appears to be quite popular. Prices were reasonable. We will return just to hang out and try more of their offering or the attached pizza place called The Rectory. On Wednesdays, they offer a local farmers market. Kudos to the visionaries who restored this building and created an interesting and warm community gathering place.

I entered La Ventana already having heard some great things about the establishment. The space is so beautifully designed, and I especially love how many seating options there are! The menu is a bit limited. I opted to get a matcha, while my friend got his recent go-to, a cold brew with heavy whipping cream and a splash of vanilla syrup. I didn't realize that the drinks came without any sort of sweetener, so I requested a splash of simple syrup after, which the barista kindly did for me! I thought their matcha blend was okay. I got it with oat milk which sometimes changes the flavor, so that could definitely be part of it since I've heard so many good things about it previously. My friend's cold brew was a bit sour, but it still did the job of waking him up and getting us on the go! I could definitely see myself going back here to work and try out some of the basics!

Other than I was not able to get their wifi to work (Detroit has a free wifi as well), it was a good resting spot with quiet background music and it never did get any other sit down customers while I dawdled. The banana bread latte is so on trend right now and I've been dying to try one. Needless to say I was pumped when I saw it on the menu. It was creamy and had just the right amount of banana bread flavor to it. I would order these over and over again. I later also tried the ube matcha and it was divine. Vibrant color and a lovely taste. Not too bitter or too sweet. The avocado toast was not only delicious, but colorful and toasted to perfection. It's a pet peeve of mine when I order it and it's a flimsy piece of bread. They nailed it.
