I have been coming to Toast for years. Recent visit I do not think I'll be able to return. I enjoyed my Spicy Cali omelet, but something is different- it wasn't as spicy as typical. My partner had the Cowboy omelet and unfortunately he was food poisoned I believe from the gravy. The hosts were attentive and efficient. Our waitress was ok, she did check in with us but only understood half of our order. The atmosphere is modern. Got the Nova Scotia benny, and it was delicious. Delicious hollandaise sauce and smoked salmon which was a first for me! The home fries stole the show- perfectly crisped potatoes. The downside is the prices are high, but it's Birmingham so what should I have expected? $20 for a breakfast sandwich is actually wild. The menu is plentiful though lacking in vegan options. The cocktail and beverage menu has many options so even the most discriminating beverage connoisseur should be able to find a beverage to their liking. Service is great. The ambiance is whimsical and special. If you're an egg eater you'll enjoy the multitude of available omelettes and there is much more to choose from if you're vegetarian. Again they do need to add a few options to make this a good place for vegans. The price is reflective of the great experience and ambiance you'll experience. My family enjoyed our brunch. Our server was lovely, guiding us through some of her favorite items on the extensive menu, which features everything from traditional breakfast and brunch fare to salads, sandwiches, and more unique dishes. The drink menu also offers some fun options. One member of our party ordered the Curious George ($10), described as their house-made banana cold brew with vanilla, whipped cream, and candied pecans. Service is as slow as a sloth. Told our waitress we'd START with a cinnamon roll from "The Starters" section. Food takes FOREVER to come out. After waiting a ridiculously long time my husband asked when the cinnamon roll would be coming out and the waitress said it was all coming out together (meaning with our meals), but she could get it out first. Cinnamon roll finally came out and we were told the rest of our food would be "out in a second" after waiting a ridiculously long time and watching two other tables get their food that were sat well after we were i was pissed to say the least. Hell hath no fury like that of a pregnant woman who's starving!! Food was mediocre and over priced, the ambience is cool and the artisan menu is neat but i won't be running back here. Toast in Birmingham is usually one of my favorite, go-to brunch spots to meet with friends. I specifically prefer the one in Birmingham rather than other locations due to this menu being more diverse. But I had a very confusing experience at my most recent breakfast date.... I ordered a hot Peppermint mocha and it was SPICY... like someone put cayenne pepper in my drink spicy? I handle spicy food well and prefer some ginger to warm up my winter drinks.... but I was struggling to drink it. I added sugar to the drink- that didn't help. I drank all of my water and that also didn't help...... To be clear again, all I ordered was a Peppermint Mocha. There was nothing on the menu that indicated their house coffee would have spice nor that there would be any spice in the Peppermint mocha itself. I had a young, very nice waitress so I was even more confused, stunned, and dumbfounded as to why there was no explanation. After calling her over and telling her that my drink was inexplicably 'spicy... very spicy' she simply asked if I wanted something else.. there was absolutely no explanation as to why my Peppermint Mocha Latte tasted like it was spiked with spice for some reason.. this completely rubbed me the wrong way especially not having heard from a manager, and having to pay Nine Dollars and Fifty cents for the same Iced Carrot Cake Latte my friend got (see picture). Although the iced carrot cake latte looked and sounded good with a boasted "cream cheese frosting cold foam" I found tiny goops of chewy 'cream cheese frosting'. Both of these tastes sitting in my stomach beg for my meal made my food much less enjoyable. After coming here for years with pretty consistent good food and ambiance - I'm sad to say I won't be back due to this very odd experience. I've tried rationalizing this mistake thinking about how early it was (8:30AM) and that everyone has one of those days... but even still. This was unacceptable service. read more

On our way home, we stopped at Toast for breakfast. They quoted us with a 20 minute wait, but since we sat right inside to wait, they called us up within 5 minutes for a table! Overall, for the price of everything, the food is nothing special. It was really good, but for the most part it was standard breakfast fare. We got a cinnamon roll to share and though we requested it to come out first as an appetizer, our main course came out at the same time. The cinnamon roll was definitely the best thing that we tried, but everything else was pretty good. I just got the traditional breakfast with turkey sausage, and it was a hefty serving. The decor was very nice and our waitress really took care of us. I did notice the busser just wiping the crayons from a table onto the floor, and then people kept stepping on them. It was really driving me crazy, I had to look away. But overall, it was decent. You could probably find the same food for cheaper elsewhere. read more

I've been hearing about the French press "banana coffee" from my sister for sister weeks. Our taste differs, I didn't find it extraordinary. What I found extraordinary was the broccoli omelette. Wow. The cheese sauce on top of the omelette was like good hot fudge on a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I hit the jackpot on my side dishes, The fried rice and challah toast were that good. I would give this place five stars BUT there are a couple of drawbacks. The parking is horrible if you want a spot close by. Second major drawback the wait time on a weekend is so long! I wasn't particularly impressed with the food this time around. I had the Mexi hash and there was nothing spicy about it. It was good but kind of bland. All of us liked our food but nothing really stood out. We shared the cheesecake waffle and it had an embarrassingly small amount of cheesecake on it lol like you can see in the picture each waffle piece had like a dot of cheesecake on it. Come here with friends for brunch! It's such a great spot and has great atmosphere. Usually will get packed even on a weekday, so I would call and get your name down. The trashy hash and chicken/waffles are some of my favorites, but they have everything from savory omelettes to sweet and chocolate pancake stacks.
