We have been to the Birmingham location before, but wanted to try out the RO location as well since the parking seemed more convenient and it definitely is- it is an open lot and even on a weekend morning peak time, we were able to get a spot. The coffees were good as always! They make a great cafe miel. The breakfast burrito was delicious- wish it was served with salsa. They serve it with sour cream and franks. The portion size is filling. The breakfast bagel is small but actually was filling too. The Asiago bagel was definitely the right choice. It was super flavorful. Very cool place that has a great vibe and atmosphere. The food was great and they had a few vegan options too that was a pleasant surprise. We had the vegan Mediterranean wrap that was good, and the rest of my family had a salmon bagel sandwich and a turkey sandwich that they really enjoyed. We also got a few drinks and they were very good too. As for the service I give them a five out of five. Probably my favorite coffee shop in Royal Oak! My favorite drink there is probably the Iced White Cinnamon Jam Latte ! Also I love that at this coffee shop there are different amounts of espresso shots in each size (regular has 2 and large has 4). The Good Morning Breakfast is my go-to and includes eggs, bacon, and sourdough toast! When I'm really hungry, the M1 Ultimate Breakfast hits the spot! The staff and baristas are all very kind and welcoming! There's definitely a great energy in this coffee shop! This coffee shop has a great ambiance, is very clean, and has plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. There's a good amount of tables, a lot of people working/studying (definitely outlets available at some tables) and some people chatting and catching up over coffee. I will say my one and only qualm is my computer constantly disconnects from the internet there, I've tried sitting in a few different spots but for whatever reason I always lose WiFi. I highly recommend Royal Oak Roast. The menu is filled with great options. There is plenty there to satisfy everyone. Whether you are merely there for a coffee drink/tea to go or you'd like to sit down and enjoy something a little more filling, it's a great spot. It's in a convenient location, right off the expressway by the zoo adjacent to The Griffin apartment complex. The parking lot is on the small side, but there were plenty available spaces for a slow mid-day. The esthetic is cute. I enjoyed the neon light displays. I sat and enjoyed my banana bread french toast and iced tea, while the other patrons worked on their laptops and otherwise enjoyed their day. My dish was a real treat. The banana bread was topped with a caramel sauce, fresh bananas and pecans. It was served with syrup, which I did use because the french toppings were enough sweetness for me. We ordered the Breakfast Burrito and the Southwest Burrito - which is raved about- but his was sitting in a little swamp o' grease when we opened the box and that was a tad bit disheartening; I won't lie. The ambiance is cozy, somewhat dark, noise level pretty low. I ordered a decaf Americano with oat milk, which was not only delicious it was beautifully presented. For my Smoked Salmon I swapped the bagel for gluten free bread and was pleased to find the bread is quite good, doesn't taste like cardboard. As a medical student who has been a loyal customer of Royal Oak Roast for quite some time, I've always appreciated the atmosphere and friendly service, and many of us return several times a week to study, meet with peers, and support the business--often purchasing food and multiple beverages. However, my recent experience was incredibly disappointing. During a routine study session with friends, we were approached by a staff member and told to leave due to a two-hour seating policy. While businesses have every right to enforce their policies, what was upsetting is that this rule was selectively enforced. Other patrons--who had clearly been there just as long or longer--were not asked to leave. All of those patrons were white, while my friends and I are people of color. This made the interaction feel unfair and targeted, raising concerns about racial bias. I had never seen this rule enforced before, and certainly not consistently. Being asked to leave under those circumstances was not only discouraging, but also deeply disheartening, especially in a space we once felt welcome. I genuinely hope the management reflects on this situation and commits to treating all customers with fairness and respect. Until then, I will be taking my business elsewhere. Reply to business owner: Thank you for your response, but I would like to clarify a few key points that were misrepresented. First and foremost, I have never--prior to yesterday--been spoken to by management or staff about violating any time limit. I've been coming to your café regularly since April, and not once was I told that there was a two-hour time limit. If I was truly being monitored so closely, as you state, then I find it troubling that no one said anything sooner. Secondly, I want to be clear that I am not loitering. During each visit, I purchase multiple items and support your business as a paying customer. I'm not sitting around taking up space without contributing to your establishment's revenue. Furthermore, I've never seen this policy enforced with other guests, nor have I seen any consistent effort from staff to communicate this policy clearly or fairly. This makes the way I was treated feel especially disappointing. This situation could have and should have been handled with more professionalism and respect--especially for a loyal customer who has spent many hours and dollars at your café. I don't take accusations lightly, and while I understand policies must be enforced, they should be communicated clearly and applied equitably. read more

The berry salad was ok but I probably wouldn't order again; it was pretty dry/needed more dressing and not enough goat cheese & was a little expensive with the chicken. The chai tea was also just ok. While I love their Kuppa Joy, I seem to find that royal oak roast is very hit or miss. The first time I came here with my husband we got a breakfast burrito and breakfast crunchwrap and I can whole heartedly say they were the most bland breakfast items I have ever had, absolutely no seasoning whatever. So we stopped getting the breakfast sandwiches and moved onto muffins. Their blueberry one is delicious, their carrot cake one - not so much. As for the drinks, I always order the same thing a hot kuppa joy, with vanilla syrup. It comes out tasting different every single time. I even ordered it iced a few times too and it was very different colors both times. My husband usually sticks with the cold brew, and they sometimes forget his sweet cream cold foam (which isn't a cheap add on), his milk, or flavoring. It is always super busy in here, I just wish they were a little more consistent. Probably won't stop me from coming back though! read more

The food in the facility caught me offguard the first time I had it. I stayed safe by going for the vegan almond butter bar for quite a while until I finally mustard up the courage to try their food menu. Let me just say do not overlook the brunch menu, because if you do, you will be sorely mistaken. The menu is filled with many items from waffles to confectionery goods all the way to brunch items that I guarantee Will make you happy to have eaten it. Another thing I've noticed, was, if an item is delivered to the customer, no matter how big or small the ask may be, the facility will quickly take the item back, remake it, and have it in your hands quick. The overall environment of the café is elegant, but also cozy. It's a great place to have a meeting, do some studying or some work, or even just show up and lounge around with a good book.
