Royal Oak Roast has been one of my go to spots since they opened. Their staff is always friendly and welcoming, the Brunchwrap with avocado instead of sausage is my favorite (most of their items can be modified to be vegetarian friendly!) and I love trying their rotating seasonal drinks! Parking is a breeze with tons of FREE spaces and the walk up window makes it super accessible if you have your dog. This place never disappoints!

Drip Coffee, Iced Cookie Butter Kuppa Joy, Zucchini Muffin

My wife and I went here for a morning coffee, the Drip Coffee and Iced Cookie Butter Kuppa Joy were good! The Zucchini Muffin was a decent size to share but nothing to write home about. Great pricing, service was fast, the atmosphere was very nice, vibes were good. The menu on the wall has very small print, make sure to bring your magnifying glass to read it.

I highly recommend Royal Oak Roast. The menu is filled with great options. There is plenty there to satisfy everyone. Whether you are merely there for a coffee drink/tea to go or you'd like to sit down and enjoy something a little more filling, it's a great spot. It's in a convenient location, right off the expressway by the zoo adjacent to The Griffin apartment complex. The parking lot is on the small side, but there were plenty available spaces for a slow mid-day. The esthetic is cute. I enjoyed the neon light displays. I sat and enjoyed my banana bread french toast and iced tea, while the other patrons worked on their laptops and otherwise enjoyed their day. My dish was a real treat. The banana bread was topped with a caramel sauce, fresh bananas and pecans. It was served with syrup, which I did use because the french toppings were enough sweetness for me. I had enough to be satisfied and also take some home. My bill was just about $20 with tip. The staff was friendly and hospitable.

Breakfast Burrito - great portions, lacking in any flavor and I am not one to slap hot sauce on my food and call it flavor.

There are so many great reviews for this place that I really, really, had high hopes... The waitstaff - perfection. So nice. So friendly. The location - be prepared to squeeze in, It's nestled beneath the Griffin Lofts and it's very tight parking. The portions were great. Nice sized burritos stuffed with food, yet for almost $70.00 for four burritos and two coffees, I expected flavor to explode, like in your face, "mmmm, this is SOOOO good," but instead, I got to taste mostly spinach and tortilla. We ordered the Breakfast Burrito and the Southwest Burrito - which is raved about- but his was sitting in a little swamp o' grease when we opened the box and that was a tad bit disheartening; I won't lie. I loved-loved-loved the friendly faces (especially now in the world) and I wouldn't say no to a second chance if someone invited me along, but I cannot say I'd choose to go back myself.

Decaf Americano with Oat Milk. Deeelish!
Dagmar L.

There are a good number of options for breakfast; many of which you can swap out the bread or bagel for gluten free bread, and of course coffee made to order. The ambiance is cozy, somewhat dark, noise level pretty low. I ordered a decaf Americano with oat milk, which was not only delicious it was beautifully presented. For my Smoked Salmon I swapped the bagel for gluten free bread and was pleased to find the bread is quite good, doesn't taste like cardboard. I also ordered the Berry Salad, at the recommendation of the cashier, but sadly that never arrived. I would come again when I'm in the area, even for just a cup 'o joe

Chicken Artichoke Panini

Cute place for a quick brunch with a friend- minus 1 star for the matcha- was very grassy tasting and probably could have used a sweetener. I couldn't find any artichokes on my panini, but otherwise it was good. Also warning on the parking- it fills up quickly on the weekends.

Super cute cafe right off the highway! The coffee that I got was mid, not my favorite, but not horrible either. The frittata I got was better than I thought; I thought it was fresh but it came right out of the display and then microwaved, but the taste was good. We sat outside and it was nice to have that option. We had a worker bring us the food while we were outside. Overall it was a cute cafe!

After often visiting Birmingham Roast, I was excited to try the Royal Oak branch. I love how spacious this location is! It's a great space for meetings, hangouts, or getting work done. I love their coffee as well as their food items - the chicken sandwich is great! The baristas here are super friendly as well.

Amazing food! The prices are reasonable for such quality food. Their latte combinations were delicious and unique. The environment was calm and relaxed with an LA city coffee shop feel. The decor was TEEEE and the workers were very patient and generous! We are from out of town so, thank you for a great road trip breakfast!

The people working here were so friendly and personable with literally everyone that walked in the door. The service was top notch. It is also the most adorable place giving vibes of Lamy's food counter at Henry Ford Museum. I loved all of the options on the menu and it was so hard just picking a couple items to try. We had chicken tacos. They were so good and so fresh, I loved the sauce on top. Honestly, I am not sure if it was cheese or a sour cream type mixture, but it was creamy and flavorful. I also had the torta which was absolutely incredible. It had the same chicken as the taco. The chicken was slow cooked or stewed and shredded and was so flavorful, like a homecooked chef's kiss. The bread was fresh. I loved the sauce poured over it, making it a dipped and soaked sandwich. The carrots and cilantro, sliced radishes and sliced fresh jalapenos added a level of crunch, freshness and deeper flavor profile. I would want to get this every time. We also tried their delicious "curly" fries, which were like julienned shoestring fries fired fresh. It seemed like every dish was made fresh and right in front of you. So worth it, plus the prices are great. I would love to try their fried chicken plate, their breakfast sandwiches, and their other desserts. We talked to the man behind the counter who seemed like maybe a manager. He gave us their famous chocolate chip cookie to try. It was fresh baked and delicious. I would love to take home more of those. It looked so simple but was better than many bakeries specializing in cookies alone. He also gave us an second order of fries to take home with my leftovers, just top notch kindness and service. This man told us that OWL owns other restaurants and we would probably like them. I am open to trying more of their group but I do want to return here. This is one of those diners you would find being profiled for best kept secret or gourmet home cooked foods under the guise of fast food.

I've had the torta, birria street tacos, and breakfast sandwiches, and I must say that all are SO yummy. While the street tacos are a bit small, they're still a great option for a quick pick-me-up! I'd also highly recommend the horchata and hibiscus juice. The hibiscus juice, in particular, has such a refreshingly sweet, tangy flavor. Love this place so much! Service is a bit hands-off due to the space, but workers are attentive and welcoming.

They biscuit cut is a large portion so I usually go for a one biscuit with gravy and a poached egg on the top. Perfection! Parking situation update, seems they have an agreement to let people park in the Main Street Kitchen lot along the south side of their building. This opens up a lot of parking options since their actual lot is always full and a dead end so it's awkward to maneuver your exit if you don't find a spot. Also post office on a Sunday is also available. Or the city hall lot we've done on holidays or weekends. We've almost always gone as a pair and been able to get seating during the in between times of breakfast and lunch; some say brunch on weekdays or after the lunch rush around 1pm. During the summer the few tables outside have been empty so we snag those. Food is quick and coffee or orange juice are very good. I ordered the Mediterranean skillet, lemon pancakes, and a side of biscuits and gravy. Yes, this was a heavy breakfast! The Mediterranean skillet had plenty of feta, which I LOVED but it was dry overall. There was no sauce to really bring everything together. I even got eggs over medium and the egg yolk did not add much creaminess. It was good, just not my favorite thing I've eaten. The lemon pancakes were absolutely unreal. Sooo fluffy and the cream cheese frosting was incredible. I would 100% recommend them. I also tried a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was very thick, which was not my favorite, but the gravy itself was amazing, but it's the white super peppery kind, which I know is not everybody's favorite! Again, just kind of dry, even with the gravy. The service was good, and for a Saturday around 11 AM, the 20 minute wait was totally reasonable. I would definitely come back, just probably not for the skillet next time.

I asked for strawberry jam and they brought me a homemade strawberry sauce that was soooo good! I give my meal an 7.5/10. Overall, the place is cute and pretty spacious with lots of seating. I finally got to try Toast in Ferndale for brunch!…read more The parking situation is a small lot behind the back and finding a spot on a weekend morning wasn't easy! We didn't have reservations so we did have to wait a while for a table. But, Toast made it manageable with an outdoor waiting area where you can order drinks from the bar. By the way, the outdoor area is not fully insulated, just sectioned off with clear tarp, so it can still feel a little chilly. However, it was nice having somewhere sit and mingle instead of just standing around by the door. Now to the good part: My table ordered the trashy hashy, toast egg sammy, and a muddled strawberry vanilla iced matcha. I started off with the iced matcha and ended with the egg sammy with a side of parmesan grits. The matcha was a little watery but good. The sandwich was super flavorful but very messy. I had to ask for extra napkins after but the mess was totally worth the flavor! I can't wait to come back! I'll be prepared with reservations next time!

My sister then asked to speak with a manager. When the manager came over, the other ladies in our group also mentioned the waitress's attitude. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, the general manager became defensive and stated that the waitress did not have a nasty attitude. He then told us that if we wanted to leave, we could leave because he was not going to be bothered with us. He took our menus and asked us to leave simply because we requested that the table be cleaned properly. I would love to see better service and customers treated with respect! Ms Cheryl W.

I used to live nearby about 25 years ago and remember coming to a diner in this area for breakfast back then. Fast forward to today--this isn't the same place, but wow, it's absolutely amazing. It feels welcoming, classic, and cool all at the same time. The customer service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I ordered the country breakfast, which came with biscuits and gravy, eggs, toast, potatoes, and sausage--everything was spot on. I'm usually not a big hash browns person, so I really appreciated that they offer an alternative to the shredded style. I went with the cubed breakfast potatoes (not sure what they officially call them), and they were so much better--crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Between the food, the service, and the overall atmosphere, this place completely won me over. I already know I'll be back next weekend.
