Not impressed. 2-stars for the service and our table appeared clean, but its all about the food, and I would describe it as grab what you have from the pantry, follow the instructions on each box, and mix it up and see if people like it. Definitely no homemade recipes here. I had the chicken & bubble-waffle and the wife had the French toast. The chicken was good, but the batter was a bit too crunchy and thick for me. We had high aspirations for this new breakfast place. We had a party of 6 and were quoted 20 minutes at 10am on a Friday . 45 minutes later we finally got seated. There were plenty of open tables, but the staffing was low and the waiting continued. Almost 30 minutes later we started ordering drinks and waited 15 minutes to get them. We never were asked for refills on coffee and at one hour we grew frustrated. Once the food arrived it was great. One picky item we noticed was the old, cheap mismatched silverware that has been "recycled from various spots not indicative of a new restaurant. The fruity pepple french toast was like a fairytale breakfast riddled with layers of rich and sweet flavors that brought on a sense of nostalgia. Much to my surprise, the loaded breakfast tots were my fave; chicken carnitas seemend like a strange play on words but it's actually quite accurate. The first impression was so poor because there was a lot of trash all the way from the parking lot up to the front door. A lot of people were eating there, so they must be doing something right. But, today they were super understaffed. It took 10 minutes after ordering coffee for it to come, and we had to remind the server we wanted coffee. I must say our server was very polite. I was super excited to try this place since I heard it was new... which is very obvious since they are so understaffed. I tried to call numerous times to make a reservation but couldn't get through to anyone. We had to wait 25 minutes for the hostess to clean the unoccupied tables (busboy anyone?) on a Tuesday morning, can't imagine how bad it is on the weekend! There was one waiter serving the entire restaurant who did a great job. Also for some reason they havent enough silverware and I shared a spoon to share coffee... I heard good things about this place and we decided to try it. There was a hour wait, which was understandable because it was a Saturday morning. The server was prompt with drinks and taking our order. It took over a hour to get our food. The server kept apologizing due to a kitchen mishap. My son's burger was burnt black on one side and medium on the other, definitely wasn't medium rare. One dish that had cheese melted on it that was cold and my dish had potatoes that you could tell it had been sitting for a while. We ate because by then we were just hungry and didn't want to wait any longer. Looking around the restaurant, people were sitting waiting for their food. Servers were running around trying to keep customers happy with drinks, they were working hard. Maybe it was an off day, but the GM should ensure the back of the house is taken care of, the front can only do so much. This lack of oversight is definitely on the management, not the employees who were getting the brunt of people's frustration. Toast 101 is another relatively new breakfast/brunch/lunch restaurant in Tucson. We had about a 15 minute wait for a table today around noon, but they had benches outside for the purpose. The decor is open and airy, with something of a sports bar vibe. They have a good beverage/libations menu (separate from their food menu), mostly geared to brunch drinks (mimosas, micheladas, bloody marys , etc), but the description reflected some thoughtful originality. We opted for the chicken and waffles and chilaquiles. The chicken and waffles were excellent with a bite of spiciness in the syrup, nice light bubble waffle and a perfectly crispy, boneless chicken breast. The chilaquiles were copious and very good (according to my spouse, who did not spare me a sample). Service was excellent, with the hostess wiping off our table immediately when she noted it hadn't been done, and our waiter answering all menu questions completely. He also only removed used plates and glasses after checking with us each time (I really like that). We will definitely be going for a return visit to try the lunch side of the menu and to further explore the breakfast offerings. read more

On weekends we enjoy sleeping in then going out for brunch. Coming from the Far East side of Tucson it took about 30 minutes to get there. Yelp had them closing at 3pm. Got there around 2:20 and we were told they couldn't seat us. On the bright side ended up at Waffle House where the food is fast, inexpensive and never disappoints. Keep in mind the following points: 1-you have to get there early, as in before they open, to get a table on Sunday mornings. 2-the portion sizes are well below average, but served on really cool plates. 3-the food is average and a bit over priced. (example-the bacon board appetizer is $8 for 6 pieces of bacon, you can buy 2 packs of bacon at Fry's for roughly the same price) 4-the Irish coffee I ordered was just that, coffee. The kahlua and the bailey's were none existant, even though the menu description states them as ingredients. And last, but certainly not least... 5-the chicken and waffles needs a different, cuter name. As someone who has actually eaten real chicken and waffles at Roscoe's in downtown Long Beach, this version is very far from that gold standard. The chicken is a breaded patty cut into strips on a bed of 4 cute, tiny, bite sized wafflettes with a jalapeno maple syrup glaze. But hey, the pineapple mimosa my friend ordered was good. My final bill was around $70 including tip, for three people. That's 1 mimosa, 1 Irish coffee, 1 regular coffee, 1 appetizer and 3 breakfast entrees. After waiting well over a half an hour for my food while watching it sit in the window for over 15 minutes. When my server attempted to talk to the manager who I watched blatantly ignore her at first then seemed to get upset with her. Wouldn't even come and talk to us after being informed we weren't happy. My chicken and waffles was a super thin chicken patty that didn't even look as good as a McDonald's McChicken patty instead of chicken leg's like the menu said. NEVER coming back here again. I would NOT recommend anybody coming here. I came with a party of 17 people. We sat for 2 HOURS waiting for our food. We saw our food sitting out, and as soon as the food eventually came out all of our food was COLD, one person NEVER EVEB GOT HER FOOD. However since we had separate checks I don't see this as a valid excuse, especially because we saw our food sit out getting cold. We asked three other waiters for the manager and he REFUSED to come out. The checks were all wrong and she was breaking down what we had ordered after we ate. He definitely needs to return to training and learn table numbers and write things down correctly, and learn what food goes to who. We celebrated 3 birthdays. Very unpleasant experience. A lot of dirty tables just sitting there no one to clean them up. I don't know if I would come again, maybe during the week. Definitely with a different server. The birthday donut with the candle is cute would taste better with ice cream, the icing is hot, it's tasty super sweet, but I recommend ice cream. The customer service was so otherworldly atrocious that not only did I wait over a half hour to never be seated, I'll don't think I'll ever subject myself to this place's service again. My friend and I arrived early in the morning, not too terrible of a line/people waiting outside at the time. We went inside, only to find a very disorganized line inside by the door. We wait in line and finally get to the front--after an almost comically long wait in line--only to find the reason why the line was taking so long. The person at front taking people's names down for the waitlist was standing behind the podium blatantly ignoring the people right in front of her waiting for service. (You'd think she'd say "please wait one moment, I'll be with you in a moment", but nothing. No eye contact, even, for a handful of awkward minutes.) She must've been calling other people on the waitlist, or picking up incoming calls, but either way, she was ignoring us because she was on the phone. Anyway! A handful of awkward moments pass & we finally are granted her attention. She flips to a new page & puts our names down on a blank piece of paper for the waitlist. Then she sends us back outside to wait on the benches. No estimated time, nothing. We wait outside. We watch new people come & go--we were thinking, "oh! They must have put their names on the waitlist earlier & are coming now that they've been called!" We try to keep good spirits about it, despite knowing actually how long it'll take & try to be patient. A WHOLE HOUR goes by (when the wait outside when we got there wasn't even terribly long), tons of new faces come & go/get sat down, and at some point, we go inside, cause what gives?? We were left in the complete dark for a long while, so we went inside in the long, disorganized line so we can ask which place we're at on the list. We wait a while, wait to get the hostess at the podium's attention, and ask her which place we're at. She flips through the pages & says there's 5 people ahead of us. What's weird--and infuriating--though, is that on the slip of paper where we were the only ones written down, there magically appeared a handful of people put ahead of us..! We were waiting patiently, and they were seating people who came after us first When we mentioned how long we were waiting & what happened, she insisted "I'm sorry, but I did everything the proper way." Well! Maybe you didn't, or else others wouldn't be put ahead of us on the new sheet that we were written on! We didn't even feel like arguing--the food looked overpriced for what they were offering, and looking at things, the hype looked like it was well-known simply for it's hype. Kinda like the Kardashians. Anyway, the whole thing--the standoffishness of the hostess, not being told even a ball-park wait time, having others be sat wrongly ahead of us, and being gaslit into thinking we were the ones making the whole thing up--left a REALLY bad taste in our mouths, so we just left. The interior of this place is really cool but the service is horrible. The experience I had here was probably the worst I've ever experienced at a restaurant. We were a party of six and one of my friends ordered a dr. Pepper and the waitress brought out a Pepsi. No big deal, but when we told our waitress he had ordered a dr. Pepper & not a Pepsi she just nodded and left, he never got his dr. Pepper. After we ordered our food it took about an hour and a half for it to be brought out to us. We never once got refills on our coffee or water while we were waiting. The bathrooms looked the equivalent of porta-potties in terms of cleanliness-- absolute filth. They were completely filthy with urine or some other fluids all over the ground. Lastly, once our food finally arrived, one of my friends received the wrong type of toast, which he didn't even bother mentioning because who knows how long it would've taken to get new toast, but his eggs were severely undercooked, so he did mention to the waitress and she frantically grabs them, brings back new eggs 15 minutes later, while the rest of his food got cold and the rest of our group had finished eating. By this point, we all couldn't leave fast enough, when the waitress brought the bills, not a single dollar was taken off for any of the inconveniences w/ our meals or our service. So I spoke up about it. I asked since we had to wait forever, since food wasn't brought out correctly, and since food had to be recooked if we could get some money taken off. She said "No, since the food eventually was delivered and corrected, we can't take any money off." In conclusion, we will not be coming back to this one. Our server was super nice, but the service was super slow, and I have a food allergy to soy (I should have called in advance...) but the server gave me an incredibly long lecture about how the restaurant gets their oils from two different distributors and he didn't know which oil they were cooking with that day because he had a few days off beforehand... and it was way too much info. In the end, they were using soy oil, so I had limited options. I ordered the nutella french toast with bananas, and it was insane. The french toast was cooked in a granola coating or something and there was so much toppings on it it was completely drowned. I ate like three bites. We started with the Donut Board - 4 warm donuts (2 each glazed and churro) and they were really good. I'm not really a donut person and these were better than I expected. Especially the glazed. I ordered the Breakfast for Champs (3 eggs, potatoes, 4 slices of bacon, toast and a humongous pancake). It was very good and the portions were large. The potatoes looked ordinary but they were anything but. My friend got the Hangover Skillet and said it was great. I understand short-staffing issues nowadays and Toast is certainly suffering from that problem. The real issue for me was two fold. My chicken fried steak was tough and chewy and over done. With a minimal amount of gravy. The toast which I expect it to be stand out feature at a restaurant called toast. Was basic Texas toast cut with some melted product already applied. My wife had the simple breakfast with bacon almost transparent it was so thin and requested a tortilla in Lou of toast. I ask for a little extra gravy considering there is hardly any on the dish. Upon receiving a bill we find out they up charged two dollars for the tortilla, another two dollars for the my toast and another two dollars for a side of gravy. I understand charging me for a side of toast which was not worth ordering. But the charge for the tortilla when her breakfast came with toast and then charge me for a gravy because it wasn't enough on it was the last straw. I and my companion had just came from Phoenix. We were extremely hungry and sought out a breakfast restaurant to satisfy our appetites. We arrived at a good time prior to lines taking place. We were immediately seated and within ten minutes at the table greeted by the waitress. The place appeared to be very busy for a Saturday. The atmosphere was apparently set for young and old patrons seeking to fulfill their needs for drink or food as I looked around at various filled tables. A very large staff we're working diligently to prepare a variety of food and drink specials as the establishment continued with people entering. We waited at our table 43mins never being served our food that sat at the window for 27mins. We watched table after table being served that had been seated after us. Our waitress took order after order with out once looking at the orders sitting at the pickup window. She did state to us her apologies due to a large order that was being prepared, but we saw what we later confirmed was our order that sat under a heated light prepared prior to this large order turning what might have been a great meal into a microwaved presented meal. We let our server know along with a lead server who simply said, "sorry !" with no recourse to these lack of actions or accountability, or suggestions to fix our concerns. We then decided to leave this establishment and proceeded to Black Bear Dinner on Broadway a mile away were we received the same meal faster and with perfect service by our server Jay, and a whole lot cheaper !
