We had a rainy day in Bear Lake so went to see a movie in Manistee. We hit up TJ's Pub after the movie: good beer selection, nice variety on tap. The bar tender was a cool guy, took care of us. I ordered the buffalo wings. They had a nice kick to them and were cooked really well...no deep fry. Baked so they were really moist and fell right off the bone. The white fish dip is really good too. Will definitely be back! read more

TJ's is a neat little place. My family and I ate a late lunch there. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We ordered some hot sandwiches, a salad, and the baguette appetizer. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The food won't fill you up as they seem to focus on quality rather than quantity. Nice beer selection on tap. read more

So far not good. We have been here 40 minutes and we are just getting our drinks. It took 10 minutes to get seated with open seating. At least 10 more minutes for someone to acknowledge we were here and 20 more to get drinks. Hopefully the food is better than the service.... ok so I just finished my lunch and I'm updating my review.... service is definitely a 1 Star but the food was great. I give the food a 5 Star all day. Just don't come here if you are looking for a quick lunch, if you aren't in a hurry and want to have a couple beers while you eat this is the place. read more

Ordered the Bruschetta and it was served to me as a pizza, smothered in melted mozzarella cheese. THIS is not bruschetta! The only difference between this and their Margarita pizza was no red sauce. this place is terrible. My family went there last summer and i was a record breaking hot day. We went into this restaurant and waited for at least 5 minutes. No one from the restaurant even said hi to us. We were so upset and had to go to another restaurant nearby, which ended up much nicer experience. It has been almost a year but the memory is still so strong and negative. read more

This used to be a favorite of ours but they got new owners who care more about themselves than their customers. They had a large party on a busy Friday night where they had the chef cook up special dishes for them backing up the kitchen for the rest of the restaurant. You would think they would be seeing what they could do to make it more enjoyable for their customers not themselves. They should visit the Glenwood or Shays to see how owners care read more

Food is good but nothing spectacular, servers are usually on the ball and prices are reasonable. Some fresher ingredients would go a long way, it is like they are making good recipes but using everything from a can or super processed foods. The grilled chicken breast they use seems pressed maybe it is their cooking technique but it seems like it came pre-cooked from a bag. The tamales are good. I'm only here in the winter so maybe that is my problem. Whatever issues they have though can be forgiven since they are open all week year round. Don't bother. The building and decor are cool; the service is so-so; the food is an odd combination of bar food and more exotic fare with uneven flavor quality. The atmosphere is awful!! Never again. Ultimately it is the managers/staff/owners who must take the initiative to ask obnoxious patrons to settle down and respect others who are there, or leave. T.J.'s staff seemed oblivious or didn't care. The details: We stopped at T.J.'s about 8pm on a Thursday, in town for a high school soccer game. We had been there twice before and both times, the atmosphere had been loud; a lot of din in a cramped space. Too many tables jammed in, so several of the tables were not in congenial places (another Yelp review mentions being placed next to the bathroom-true). On this visit, the din was intense, and we thought about going elsewhere, but after 8pm, we felt our options were limited. We initially thought there must be some sort of trivia game night, because the 3 couples at the table by the front were shouting, screaming, and in general, behaving obnoxiously. Trying way too hard to show everyone what a great time they were having. Their uproar was causing other patrons to shout as well, in order to hear each other. Also there were at least 3 large-screen TVs with football on. We were forced to take a high-top right under one of these. The waitress gave us water and forgot about us for a while - at least 10 minutes. She was visiting with the screamers - two couples who looked to be in their 50s and one couple in their 30s. When she came to us for our drink order, my husband asked her if she could get the screamers to tone it down. She seemed not to hear us. The screamers carried on, especially a couple of the women. It was very jarring to have these explosive noises in a confined space. Patrons at other tables looked tense also. After taking our food orders, we waited for quite a long time. She brought my husband a second drink. Two tables near us filled up; patrons ordered, and their food brought. The screamers kept on until my husband wrote them a note, which said, "You can have a good time without screaming." (By this time, what we wanted to say would have included a number of 4-letter words; but we restrained ourselves.) He handed it to one of the men, who shared it with the group. He seemed embarrassed; then the din magically died down. Other patrons could talk to each other, we could actually hear each other! The woman who had been loudest wanted to have a confrontation with my husband, and the second woman took out her phone and pointed it aggressively, as if to Snapchat him (really?), but he just turned his back and didn't engage. Eventually our waitress came back to ask if we wanted any more drinks; when we said no, she gave us our tab and told us good night. We said, "Our food...?" Oh, yes, she said. She left us and about 20 minutes later, brought our food. Of the food: I got the Asian noodle bowl, which was quite flavorful, my husband got two orders of baked chicken wings, one sweet-sour, one Buffalo, which were ok flavor-wise, but rubbery in texture, with no dipping accompaniment offered. No garnish, and no sides (like fries) available to add on. Waitress told him he could get some "special" chips as an add-on. He declined. When we got up to leave, my husband said, "I'll bet the screamers say something to us." We had left the building and were out on the sidewalk when the screamers broke into loud applause. Very immature and spiteful. For the $40 we spent, we could have had a much more enjoyable dining experience at the Boathouse or another Manistee eatery. read more

Fantastic setting, decent food and any drink you want. The staff is friendly and competent. The manager is active in the whole operation and it shows. They will cater to special parties, even closing the pub to the public for a short time. My only complaint is the acoustics. The building is masonry and sound ricochets. read more

My first visit to TJs Pub was last weekend and I was very impressed. The pub itself is very old, quaint, warm and welcoming with scalloped ceilings and a wood burning fireplace. It feels like a step back in time. The staff was friendly and professional. The food was exceptional. I had a hard time choosing a lunch item because there were so many great options. The menu uses a variety of ingredients to turn a simple sandwich into exceptional. The Shepherd's stew was terrific as well. It was a great flavor experience and I look forward to dining here again. read more
