Went here on Sunday, May 31st, with my parents and my husband. My anxiety got away from me while I was here but our waitress was amazing and the food was fantastic. The restaurant can get busy, which means it naturally gets a bit loud. I loved the overall atmosphere and vibe of the pub, even if it was a bit overwhelming with all the people and noise. This place is clearly the place to be, because it was definitely the place everyone was. I would definitely give them a second try next time I'm in Manistee but I'd do takeout. read more

We came into downtown Manistee for dinner one night and while there weren't too many restaurants to pick from, we could quickly and easily tell that most everyone was gathering at TJs. It's located at the base of a hotel (The Ramsdell Inn), sort of half above, half below ground level, which felt very cozy and quaint! Because of this location as well, you get both foot traffic and customers from the hotel guests coming down and seemingly everyone else passing through town too. While we were sitting in the lobby waiting for our table, there was a giant group of around 10 people who came in here on a bar crawl just to get a quick round of shots before moving on to their next destination, and I just really loved the energy of that and how it permeated throughout in here! I came in here with my service dog and was treated with a lot of accommodation without even asking, which I sincerely appreciated! (Spoiler alert: a lot of establishments throughout downtown Manistee were very unfriendly and unwelcoming about me having a service dog, which was shocking and disappointing.) TJs sat us at a nice table where I was able to tuck my service dog in a corner for him to relax by me/under the table and not be in a high foot traffic area and our waiter even brought a bowl of water out for him as well! The food here was decent, nothing spectacular, but we appreciated the warm meal on a cold, rainy day and it made my stomach happy! My friends and I got a baked cheese appetizer to start (cheesy bread with apple slices and hot honey) and then I got the baked meatballs as my main. Both were perfectly fine, but the ambiance (and the hilarious bathroom vibes) really rounded out this entire experience and had us really enjoying our time here - thanks TJs! read more

First time in my life that I paid that much for a salad with mainly lettuce and BBQ sauce for a dressing. a first grader could have done it better. now for the service we felt like we weren't welcome at all. This is obviously a local favorite spot. It was very busy. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and the staff are professional. There is nothing outstanding about this restaurant but the food was good. The prices were fair. I went with a larger group, and they are beer drinkers and seemed to really enjoy their drafts. I had the lemon shrimp appetizer and the Greek salad. The lemon shrimp was lacking in flavor and the bread was meh but the salad was as expected. I would return here for a quick good dinner/lunch, but I wouldn't have a date night here. It's extremely loud and crowded. My friends that I dined with were very satisfied with their meals as well. We stopped by for lunch after watching a movie down the street. The food was good. The kids quesadilla was a nice size, it wasn't a mini one like you get most other places. The beer was cold and delicious. Our waitress was great! She made sure we got everything we needed and was very sweet. I loved the atmosphere inside as well, it was cute. I don't normally give many 5 star reviews, but TJ's checked all the boxes. It has the great feel of a small town pub with friendly staff. We stopped in for dinner on a Monday and we were quickly seated. We ordered the crab ragoon (5 pieces), 1/2 order of Baked Meatballs in marinara, BBQ chicken salad, Chicken Alfredo, and a Club sandwich. Everything was great. They were spot on with their food and Kelsey did a good job keeping our drinks filled. The little loafs of bread as a side in the orders were excellent with butter. Alfredo sauce is homemade along with the potato chips on the side of the club. Many other things on the menu I would have ordered. Guess I'll have to try them next time. Nice job TJ's! read more

TJs is a cute little pub in Manistee and on a short trip to hike this winter, we stayed right down the road. We got seated promptly during the rush of lunch (the moment we sat down, a mad dash of people showed up, so we probably got lucky with timing) and the staff were very friendly! The food was decent but nothing to get overly excited over since it was very typical pub food. My favorite part of this spot though honestly was the building itself. TJs is mostly about the atmosphere. It's in the 'basement' of a really cool old building. It's tiny, so we've walked out more times than we've actually stayed (there's normally a wait of at least 15 minutes from spring until fall and if that's the case, we go somewhere else). The drinks are decent, the service is fine, and the food is slightly better than it should be considering they don't have a 'real' kitchen. This place is more about the vibes than the food or service. But I'm fine with that as long as we're not asked to wait longer than a couple minutes for a place to sit down. read more

This is my second time at TJ's. The second time was almost better than the first time. The atmosphere was exactly the same being pleasant and comfortable. The staff was friendly and pleasant to deal with. They were very attentive. The gyro was very good and filling. The ingredients were fresh and the bread was soft. The only thing lacking was a bit more sauce. The chips were crunchy and flavorful. The stout was tasty as well. Great way to start the meal and went well with the food. The molten cake was fabulous. Just enough cake with the molten center to fill your mouth with chocolate flavor. The side drizzles were extremely delicious and complimented the cake well. Definitely try it. Really good pub fare. Stopped for a quick lunch and tried a flatbread and some wontons. The duck bacon wontons were very good with a nice teriyaki dipping sauce. Spent hundreds if not thousands in this place over the years because Manistee doesn't have too many restaurant options. Will never set foot in there again because of one lady that has been absolutely rude to me and my family on several occasions. We never understood the reason for her negative demeanor but enough is enough. It's a shame that one toxic person can ruin a good thing. So the owner just responded to me and everything she said isn't true. We apologized to a different server that was waiting on folks and even the people waiting for the bar seats for the misunderstanding. We went to front and that's when this lady said read the sign must wait to be seated even for the bar. She then turned around and walked out front door. She never offered us anything after that and said it with an attitude so that's when I said we are done and walked out. So what she told you is a flat out lie. Just so you know this wasn't the first time she's been rude towards me and my family and I have never given a bad review ever but this really pushed my buttons. We went on a Tuesday evening. TJ's was one of the only moderately priced restaurants open at till 10pm, and my brood and I didn't get ready till 8:30. I ordered the Lakeside club which was overly sweet from the inclusion of strawberry jam ( I had assumed from the menu that a "Jamin' Jam" would be savory on a club sandwich that already had a sweet element, pear slices), my daughter is picky and went with a half order of their meatballs in bbq sauce. The sauce turned out to be very close to tangy honey mustard which she tried , but did not like. My son and I tried it and found it a strange combo. He ordered the Hawaiian flat bread which not only had pineapple but also a type of sweet sauce ( different bbq?), and we got a chicken adobo bowl to-go for my husband. It ended up being the best of the bunch, but it still had what I would call some odd combinations (quinoa, corn, and guacamole). Perhaps we just made some really bad menu choices. The wait staff was fine. The sidewalk seating was welcomed. I hope Manistee is graced with some better mid-range restaurant options soon. read more

My 3 star rating is for slow service/ not being greeted upon walking in. It takes 2 seconds to acknowledge someone walked in and say "we will be with you in just a few minutes"... instead the staff completely ignored us. Otherwise, the food is tasty and the prices are reasonable. read more

We came here for a late lunch on a Sunday. We had a 30 min wait, and were able to grab some beers in the to go cup and drink while we waited. We were sat quickly, and the service was great! We got spinach artichoke dip and the baguette and oil for appetizers and they were both tasty! Our meals were also all delicious. My mom was raving about the chicken Alfredo, and our sandwiches were good. Would definitely return and recommend! This place was highly recommended as 'The Cheers' in town so we stopped in for drinks on a Friday evening after arriving in town. We walked into chill live music from a duo and the place was packed. Bonus! apparently it was international tierra day (yes, it's really a thing) "International Tiara Day is celebrated on May 24th each year, appropriately on the birthday of Queen Victoria." We parked ourselves at the rail by the front door since there was no other seating available. Everyone was enjoying themselves and having a good time. Local mostly and the service was friendly and warm. If you are in town and want to hang where the locals do, this is your jam.
