Incredibly delicious food, excellent and genuine service, in a classic sandwich spot ambiance is how I describe TJ's Hero shop in Patchogue. When you come in, you're greeted by warm smiles and positive energy. I've been here every time I come back to NY, and their consistency for making great sandwiches is unmatched. I get the Turkey, Roast Beef, and Provolone Hero hot with The Works (Lettuce, Tomato, onions, oil and vinegar) and it's amazing every time! I normally grab a big bag of Wise Onion and Garlic chips to compliment the Hero and it pairs perfectly. Anytime you're hungry and want a great Hero sandwich, this is the place to get it. I don't have any pictures but I had a delicious wrap from here. I had the Balsamic Chicken on a whole wheat wrap which consisted of Grilled chicken, melted mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, sweet peppers & balsamic dressing. It was very tasty and very filling! I was only able to eat half at once...which only meant I was able to enjoy the deliciousness again later on. So good! I'd definitely order from again. read more

Could have sworn I wrote a review for TJ's many moons ago. This was, of course, before they moved locations from Main Street to Washington. Not sure if the review was lost in the move. Regardless it's time to shout out a family favorite. My husband grew up going to TJ's. Ironically, I wasn't much of a sandwich person until the Hubs came along. And what was once a regular thing for us is now a treat. Hub's go to is a Chicken Supreme with American cheese and Mayo. Me...I bounce around. Some days I'll get a Tuna hero, and other days it's the Super Club or the #25 cold Italian hero with the works and Mayo. The bread is delicious. They put the right amount of meats/cheese which I can appreciate a nice, not overstuffed sandwich sometimes. Also the iced tea. Classic deli iced tea. Hard to find a good one these days. TJ's has stayed the same and continues to be one of the best. These days I get the unsweetened mango tea and it's just as good. What was once a tiny sandwich shop, is now a nice size convenient store which features some household items, a few groceries and lottery tickets. The staff...some of them have been there as long as I can remember. This is a local biz that I think the community would be crushed if they ever leave. They really are the best here, and have even helped me carry a ton of sandwiches to the car while doing a pickup with the kid. I don't live near this place, I'm several towns away and don't have a lot of reason to bring me out to Patchogue on a regular basis. So when I go here for a sandwich, it is because I know from experience just how good these sandwiches, and service, actually are. It's a sandwich I am more than glad to travel for. It's a treat, a delight. I've placed orders that didn't come through entirely as asked, and it didn't matter at all because the sandwich was still delicious and well prepared. This is what I'm saying, having experienced an error in an order, I still don't find any reason to complain or consider it a negative because the end result is still a sandwich from TJ's Hero Shop. I love this food, this atmosphere, just everything about it. It's why I'm not only willing, but eager, to travel to experience it all over again. Oh, and even more fun fact? I realized that Subway's sandwich combos have gotten to be more expensive than TJ's sandwiches, and they are not in the same league as TJ's by any stretch of even the most lofty imagination. But even when Subway was the less expensive option? I'd choose TJ's over them anyway, a little extra is well worth it when the difference in quality is so significant. So, if you're out by Patchogue and want to try something exquisite? TJ's is definitely a big recommend from me. It's a pity I can only go as high as 5 stars. read more

Came to Long Island and had to get a hungry man because you can't get anything like this where I live now. My nephew said to come to TJ's because they are the best. I ordered at the counter and there were a steady stream of orders being placed over the phone. A few people came in and out as I was waiting. Everyone working there was working hard the hole time to crank out all the orders. There are a couple of grocery isles in the back with some house hood needs. There were a few coolers with drinks. I was looking for a Yoo-hoo but the did it have it. There are a couple tables inside and outside to eat at. Definitely hit the spot. Great sandwich and it came with either coffee or iced tea. I'm originally from NY but now live in California, and one of my top priorities when visiting home is grabbing a great deli sandwich before heading back. On our way to the airport, I looked up delis and TJ's Hero Shop II had the best reviews - now I know why. Our whole family was blown away. I got a turkey and cheese, and the cold cuts were sliced so thin they were almost shredded, making the sandwich juicy and packed with flavor. My husband went with the Reuben (served on a hero instead of rye) and said it was hands down the best he's ever had. My daughter ordered the cheesesteak and declared she's never eating one from anywhere else again (a tough promise since we're back in CA now!). The biggest surprise was my 7-year-old son, who is a very picky eater. He got the tuna and ate his entire half hero - totally out of character for him! We couldn't resist grabbing black and white cookies too, and wow... best I've ever had. The chocolate side was rich and fudgy, and the cookie itself was soft, fresh, and delicious. On top of the food, the people here are what make this place special. They went above and beyond - chatting with our kids, offering my son a sample of tuna to make sure he liked it before ordering, and even running outside with a ziplock bag when they noticed my daughter eating a big black and white cookie so she wouldn't have to carry it on the plane. This place is exactly what I was looking for: incredible, authentic NY heroes with a warm, welcoming vibe you just don't find everywhere. 05/03/23: Recommendation from a co-worker while on go-live for a site. Not a big sandwich fan, but folks not only are these sandwiches huge but also very tasty. They have their process on point. From ordering to receiving sandwich streamline process. Seems like a family owned business. Pretty popular spot and although it was lunchtime the flow of customer was pretty ongoing. Reminds me of bodega as there are refrigerators with sodas, water, stands with potato chips and other goodies for purchase. I ordered the chicken cutlet with bacon lettuce tomatoes pepper Jack cheese sweet papers and their homemade sauce. Deliciousness. Located in a town that takes pride in Marcus Stroman and E from Entourage, it's only fitting they provide this mediocre establishment to the public. The only place I want to see rubber chicken is in a Spencer's, not my sandwich! Food was average at best. Customer service was solid employees were friendly and helpful, would give them a fist bump on the way out if I ever decided to go again. I know why TJ goes by initials because I wouldn't want anyone to know my real name if this was the food I was slinging to da streets. It's the Pat-Med school districts of Delis, only the people who are in it actually think it's good. Came on a recommendation and I now know it's over rated by guys who dunk their mozzarella sticks in ranch and can do the LeBron powder throw with something other than their hands. Been here a few times and while the food is good, it's extremely pricey. 15 dollars for a hero seems too much not to mention they charge 3 dollars for drinks which I brought my own but they assumed I didn't pay for it and it was from their store. My bill came out to around 18 dollars but they were generous enough to refund me 3 dollars for the drink that I brought in. Overall not a bad experience but could be better. read more

I'm a true blue Long Islander and know that a good deli is a thing of beauty. Nassau is where I gather most of my edible knowledge, but there's oh so much more in the land of Suffolk. One such spot? TJ's Hero Shop. Well, this is Hero Shop número dos. There's three TJ's that can fill your belly with plenty of deli goodness. But like I said, we're talking about the second spot. My girlfriend and I grabbed a sandwich here a few weeks back to take on a little picnic. We called it in and our lunch was ready and waiting when we arrived. Now this TJ's is a no frills kind of place. It ain't about anything other than the food and it shows from the laid back look inside and out. That's cool with me because in the end, what matters most is the taste. For the GF and myself we chose to share one sandwich, and though I could probably devour a full sub on my own, it was pretty darn massive in size. Well put together too. To do some diligence on calories we went with the "Waist Watcher" and a side of potato salad. The "WW" consisted of turkey, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, onion, sweet peppers, and spicy stealth sauce (we switched out the mustard option on this). It was packed with fresh flavor while the salad broke up the bites and added some potato creaminess to our meal. Good stuff, TJ. Overall, TJ's Hero Shop II is worthy of a space in your stomach. They know a thing or two about making a quality sandwich, and I'm sure their other two spots follow suit. Using that knowledge, I think it's safe to say TJ's is in the mix of Long Island Delis worthy of your appetite. I'll be back for more the next time I need some lunch in Suffolk. read more

I love this place tj hero is the #1 spot that I go to for a nice hero they always make it perfect. They are very nice when you enter the building they greet you with respect and a warming hello I give them 5 stars every time I order from here they always get the order perfect and they don't hold on the meats. Never had a problem with tj' so will recommend this place to everyone I know bread is always fresh my girlfriend never had tj's when I took her here she was blown away and now she loves it and we can get enough lol. Super clean deli/ market a little off the beaten path on the middle of a residential neighborhood. I ordered a 1/2 Excalibur hero (meatball, gravy and mozzarella on garlic bread) and holy cow it was delicious. Very fresh and the 1/2 hero was $6.50. A weeeeeee little bit pricey for a half hero but WELL WORTH IT. I also ordered a chicken pot pie soup which was very tasty. Creamy with just the right amount of salt and chicken and veggies. The service was super quick and very courteous. There have some tables to sit at located inside the store, so I sat down, ate and watched some local news on their TV. They also have some necessities grocery- wise, like paper goods and boxed/ canned food. 7-11 type stuff. The store also has a decent beer fridge, and you're more than welcome to sit down and have a brew while you're eating your hero. Again, super clean place with really good food. Bought 3 foot longs for 32 and change. No drinks or sides. Not bad. The sandwiches were delicious. I got the Louisiana lightning with breaded chicken, the chicken club with the special sauce (stealth if I remember correctly), and a cheese steak hero. Dunno if there were any specials, I guess I should have asked but was in a rush. Friendly staff. I like that. A welcoming attitude does it for me. Busy so they must be consistent. I was introduced to the famous TJ's about a year ago and this is now the ONLY PLACE I buy hero's in the Tri-State area...No Joke! I have never had a bad experience coming to TJ's. Everything is always on point perfect! Make sure you know what you want before calling. They get a lot of phone calls and time is $ to them so they are quick on the phone. They have NEVER messed up my order, the toasted hero's are always pipping hot, cold hero's are always fresh. The people working behind the counter are always very nice and work extremely hard. This review is only for the Patchogue Location. I have heard great things about all the stores, but I personally have only been to Patchogue TJ's. I'm reviewing the Sandwiches I've tried- each hero is huge, love the size. Great for a nice hearty lunch! The quantity for the price is excellent!! #8 "Southern Belle"- with Mozzarella Cheese. Absolutely amazing. The ham is great, cheese melted perfectly, but the star of the show is the Gravy for sure! 5 out of 5 stars #9 "New Yorker"- Seasoned Pastrami, with melted cheese and dressing... can't go wrong! This hero is the best of everything! 5 out of 5 stars Virginia Club Wrap- Everything in the sandwich binds together with the amazing TJ's "Stealth Sauce". The sauce is out of this world. Ordered this 6 hours ahead for myself because I would be eating dinner on the go. I ordered a hot chicken parm hero with extra cheese and extra sauce, in the instructions said extra sauce on the side..this is what I got. No sauce at all on the actual hero, and not even enough sauce for the second half. Clearly there was no extra sauce if there isn't even enough for the whole thing, there is hardly any cheese, also definitely not extra... preplanned my day and paid $20 for this crap.
