THis TJ Maxx usually has the best selection around - there's one closer to my house but I never seem to find any shoes in my size. I've found two pairs of ROOs here for $20 apiece when the cheapest that I've been able to find them were online for $35 (not including shipping and tax) - you may have to search around but it's usually worth it. read more

Hit or miss. My method of shopping is this: I can spend hours going through stacks finding something that fits. I am fine with going to the dressing room a few times. I love finding that deal. My mom and I were notorious for spending a Saturday going to different TJMaxxs and Marshalls around St Louis. I just haven't been able to reconnect that magic here in Chicago.... I have found some good deals at the State Street location but the lines are always ridiculously long, which is frustrating. The jewelry counter is nice, but you wait there for 10 minutes before you realize you have to take a number in order to be waited on. I have gotten holiday presents here and they have a lot of sports related things here. I mean they have good deals...I just don't really enjoy going here. Maybe because it needs to be cleaned up, maybe because I hate waiting in line...but if you need good deals, it is a good place to check out! read more

My bank card was charged three times for one purchase. Couldn't get my money back at the store. Was told by the manager that I had to call customer service, and there was nothing that they could do for me. Called TJ Maxx customer service and of course it was friday after 5pm so they are closed until Monday. This is extremely unacceptable!.. Then, the cashier told me that happens a lot there. (SO DONT EVER GO!) It's funny how I can pay money, but cant get it back if there is a mistake that is not my fault, and out of my control? On top of this it's my Birthday, and now its ruined. So basically I lost my phone at this location, while shopping with my friend. I understand its my responsibility to keep track of my belongings, but in the circumstance of the fact that I lost a valuable personal belonging, I've never been met with such an uncaring attitude and an unhelpful staff member in my life. I understand they just want to do their jobs, but I work in retail too, and we never treat people like how he treated me. In my store, if someone lost something that day, if they can describe what it is and what it looks like, we help them look for at least a little bit. Especially, if it was valuable, we offer to take their contact information down, in case we find it at a later time. I was in this store looking for my phone for a while after I realized I lost it, before I asked an employee if anyone turned in a lost phone. He asked someone to check probably where they keep lost items and I went back to looking. I was panicking and obviously upset, since its expensive and I have some personal information on that phone, and I ended up talking to that same employee a few times over the period where my friend and I were still looking for the phone. Not once did he give any hint at all that he had an ounce of sympathy for my situation, or that he cared whatsoever, he offered me no help this entire time as well. I was the one that had to suggest to leave my contact information in case they found it, instead of him offering me that option himself any other time he talked to me. He asked for my phone number, which is very stupid to ask someone for that as contact information when they lost their phone for obvious reasons, so I offered to leave my email instead. He just said no, phone number only and offered no alternative solution. Thank god, my friend offered to leave her phone number instead. The last time I saw that employee was just a few minutes before closing time because we had started shopping maybe a couple hours before closing and it took quite a while to shop and then look for the phone. The second he saw us again, the first thing out of his mouth was essentially the customer service way of saying, "We're closing, get out." It really rubbed me the wrong way the acute lack of empathy he had every time I talked to him, and he was the most unhelpful employee I've ever spoken to. I will never shop at this particular location again. Shout out to the few friends who found out and tried to help though, I had never received such sudden vigorous support for a problem, and it really made me feel better after the terrible customer service. read more

This is the closest T.J Maxx to me and even though it's good, it'[s also not so good. There is always stuff just laying everywhere! I can never seemt o find what I'm looking for. If I do then there are like a million people in line and since you spent an hour looking for whatever it is you were looking for, by the time you get to the line it's like f**k it ! Like other discount retailers, I like TJMaxx. This location I like for certain items. I find the best cookware here. The stock is usually in good condition, but you really have to inspect it to make sure. In the past, I've had pretty good luck with the dress department. My best successes here have been finding nice and professional shirts for the bf. He's managed to stock his closet with a bevy of shirts without spending a small fortune. For me, the women's clothes department is often hit or miss, but I can't go wrong with cookware. My pros here are the men's department and household goods while the women's department is usually picked through and full of chaos. read more

CAREFUL! I had my purse stolen in this store 3 months ago. Be careful, they are watching you! My purse was on my shopping cart (I know you will think that it should never been done) I learned the hard way. But I had 2 other friends and my purse was all the way down below all the stuff I was buying. Someone was able to grab it without any of us noticing.. that is they were watching us! I often go in here and immediately think "what the *** happened?" Everyday looks like the black Friday. BUT if you're willing to dig, there are some good deals. I've found several great purses and bags, including my new 'absolute favorite in the whole wide world' carry-on bag, picture frames, candles, Jelly Belly, and calendar planner (pink leather, my fave, circa 2008). I don't have the patience for their shoe section, but it's pretty large. Accessories and kitchen stuff has the best selection, for clothes I would check out Filene's Basement. But when you check out you can marvel at how they have a state of the art electronic calling system but can't keep all the merchandise in order, or even on the rack, for that matter. read more

I forgot to warn everyone that their layout is extremely frustrating as it makes no sense (I guarantee you'll think the same) and certain sections are much more disorganized and cluttered than others (seldomly the men's - no surprise here). I had absolutely no luck finding men's shoes. How frustrating. It seems like these types of discount stores are reducing their men's department stock. As for handbags, they can be pricey here. My mom and I mostly come here for the designer handbags, but Tj Maxx can't complete with Macy's during the huge sales (when the prices for designer handbags are even lower.) Suprisingly, Macy's and Tj Maxx often carry the same designer handbags (diffferent prices of course.) The TJ Maxx card only offer 10% off on your first purchase and for points for every dollars spend afterward, but Macy's send coupons even without having to earn points. We recently came here for some jeans for my brother, he is super skinny so it was very hard to find the right size for him. This Tj Maxx does carry a lot of brand name jeans such as American Eagles. There are also a few items that are marked down super low with a red sticker, so it important to keep your eyes for those sale tags. read more

I love going to TJ Maxx because you can sometimes find nice things at a cheaper price. Granted, it will be in a weird color or the fit won't be exact but nicer none the less. I go to the ones back home alot so of course I am going to check out the ones here in town. First of all, this location is odd as Its upstairs above a Burlington Factory. The second issue I had was the the merchandise seemed cheaper then what I found in town at Marshalls but much much better then Ross. I would not buy Men's clothes here as it seems way picked over. I am not sure if its because demand here is bigger or if its because its in downtown of the city. Overall pleasant experience. Only other thing is that the waiting line seemed ridiculously cluttered with merchandise spread on either side of a very long isle. read more

Everything is incredibly picked over, due to the high traffic of its location, and I realized while buying towels there yesterday that I never bought anything there during my seven years in Chicago. It's hard for me to say anything bad about TJ Maxx because I am a regular customer at many of the stores. The cashiers are friendly and competent at this location. They have a large supply of men's clothing. I can usually find something that I want when I go in here. My only complaint, and it is a big one, is that the men's fitting room is a small locked closet that requires an employee to be summoned to a corner of the store. Whenever I have done this, they usually look annoyed and you feel like you are trying on clothes in a utility and cleaning supply storage space. It also can take a long time for somebody to respond to your request to get it open. If the location could somehow make a proper men's fitting room, I would have nothing to complain about. read more

The men's dressing room is appalling. First off, there is only one. Second, it is hidden and there is no attendant on duty. I had to talk to someone so they could page a lady to open it for me. Men do yourself a favor and never shop here. The prices aren't worth the lack of service. A note to TJ Maxx, I felt discriminated against. I was going to spend 60 dollars on a pair of pants and a shirt but when I saw the room and the poor service and placed my clothes on the return rack and went down to Filene's basement to purchase the exact same items. This location is right down the street from my office, and I like to come here on my lunch breaks to look at handbags and workout clothes. The selection is really good, but some of the prices are a little high. Also, I think I have only been asked maybe a handful of times if I needed assistance. I get that the store is high volume and busy, but it's not very good customer service. Luckily, I don't mind looking around on my own when I need to. read more

A particularly good TJ Maxx. TJ's can be hit-or-miss sometimes in the smaller locations, but this is as close as it gets to a flagship. Better than the new one above the Marshall's a few blocks north, too. Always great stuff here for men. If you're looking for "I just need a shirt with a Cubs logo on it," this is the place to go. If you need basic gym clothes, this is the place to go. If you need men's business shirts, look here first. There are certainly other good places for men's shirts, but this place is always worth a look to start. Particularly good tie selection, too. I've occasionally gone hunting in the home goods section in the back, and there's a lot there, too. If you need glassware, you'll save an arm and a leg over Crate & Barrel here. Also pretty good selection of cookware, cutting boards, and lades and whatnot, too. read more
