But unless there is a big sales going on in the brand outlet store (which wasn't the case during Father's Day), this store will have better prices and an almost equal selection. I'm super bummed their flagship multi story store closed on Michigan Ave in the city early last year as this makes it harder to shop for what I'm looking for. While, they do have a downtown location still in The Loop, this is usually the other alternative which is a pain to get to from the city, but it has a decent selection still. The employees I interacted with in my most recent time here were helpful and friendly so no complaints there either. Please re-open another location in the city though (maybe West Loop?)!

Checkout is still relatively fast because it's so automated with you being to just put everything in and the machines do all the work for you. I did an online in store purchase and was waiting a while as there was an extra associate who was able to help, but didn't acknowledge me until the other lead at the register told him to assist me. If you do purchase online and need to do a return in store, they will just give you a gift card as they won't credit your original card.

When I asked security guard up front for the mesh baskets that you put your items into while you're shopping he tells me oh they're all at the front by the cash register and I'm saying well why don't you guys have any when you first walk in the door he looked at me like I was from Mars and acted as is I asked him for a kidney. So I'm walking around the store with all of my items in my hand until I find a stand where the mesh baskets were he didn't even offer to say let me get you one I thought Michigan avenue was supposed to be upscale. I saw a pair of pajamas that I wanted and I stopped at associate and asked her if they had it in my size she didn't bother to look she just whisked past me and said nope whatever's out is out. Now I worked in retail before so I can get that but she didn't bother to say you know what ma'am I don't think we have this size let me just take a look I have to find another associate a very nice young lady who actually took the time to check to see if they had them and they did not so I just went with a different one. Once I got to the front to check out that wasn't too bad of an experience but I hate the fact that I spent almost $200 and my items were not wrapped in tissue paper they just threw them in the bag. Prices were similar to Macy's and not as high as a boutique clothing store. Employees were helpful if you asked for help. Marine Layer's catalog intrigued me and I decided to stop in to their Bucktown location when I was doing some shopping in the area. I admire the casual yet polished aesthetic embodied by this brand. Oftentimes this is more difficult to pull off than one would think, either skewing more athletic (Lululemon or Athleta) or effortless but requiring a commitment to ironing (J. Crew). These brands have a place, but I feel Marine Layer hits that sweet spot and, most importantly, the fabrics are SOFT! Wandering around the store was a relaxing experience (this location offers women's, men's, and kids' clothing). I found myself eyeing several t-shirts and sweaters, finally winding up with a cropped black linen blend chore jacket that will be a great transitional piece going into autumn. The prices are a little more expensive for casual wear but the fact is that quality and the sustainable practices used by this clothing company cost more. I am finding myself gravitating toward more laid-back, yet put together styles these days and find this store fits the bill perfectly. The store sits on Damen, but upon walking in, you are taken to that California state of mind. The clothing definitely reflects a cool Cali style, while boasting in-between sizes for men like "Marge" (in between Medium and Large) or "Larger" (in between Large and XL). Can we say genius!? I tried on a cotton hoodie and didn't want to take it off! CLOUDS!!! I fell in love with their scarves bought a gray and white infinity scarf that has the feel and look of your favorite soft joggers and it goes with everything! Best of all, their clothes won't shrink since they're preshrunk! Eek! The clothes are a little pricey, but you honestly cannot put a price on quality clothing that you wont have to worry about being unwearable after it's gone through the washer a few times. It's worth it!
