Block 37 is a high end, gorgeous indoor mall of five floors with an AMC movie theatre at the top and an adjacent/underground parking garage. Unfortunately since the pandemic it is not full so I hope that it will continue to be revitalized. I don't come much because living in the suburbs where parking is free parking is ridiculously expensive here (around $40 or more for 2 hours). (It is adjacent to the red line.) I was prepared to pay $20 last weekend which is the weekend special, but we validated our ticket at the movie theatre to bring it down to $12. The only stores of interest to my daughter and me here are Zara, which is two floors, a plant store and a good Akira! The movie theatre is great, with big comfortable reclining seats and dining tables at each seat. Delivery service if you order food too. Even though there are only kiosks now for your ticket purchases, there is a representative at Guest Services which I appreciated because it's no longer possible to speak to anyone on the phone for customer service and I needed help with my Stubs account. read more

10/08/24 - I had to go downtown to take care of some issues @ City Hall. I also took advantage of early voting as I will not be in the country on November 5th. After casting my vote I wandered over to Block 37 (not my first time) Block 37 is an area between Randolph on the north, State On the east side, Washington on the south, & Dearborn on the west. Prior to this development the block was densely developed with 11 buildings, housing theaters, offices, a YMCA, and retailers like grocery store Stop & Shop. At some point the area was completely demolished & the site lay empty for many years. From 1989 - 2005 the site remained vacant due to Chicago politics, lack of funding & several developers. After years of waiting a plan to develop the block w/retail stores on the lower floors & high rise housing above. They also put in an underground tunnel between the State Street Red line & Dearborn Street Blue line. Most of the retail stores were closed or gone, Zara is there along with/a gym & an AMC movie theater on the top floor, but for the most part this mall needs a total revamp w/some anchor tenants & restaurants. I've been inside several times & am so unimpressed by what I see in a mall where almost nothing is open. It's such a waste of PRIME DOWNTOWN REALTY. read more

Even though it mostly sucks it's pretty good there's a mall in the Loop. It has mostly crappy stores but this gives shoppers another option to get stuff. Block 37 has a few floors to explore. Get here from the pedestrian walk or from the street level whichever is closer to get into. The mall has pretty good hours but it seems many of the restaurants and stores will close at early times. A lot of people will pass through it when going between the Blue and Red Lines, and this is how most learn about it. If wanting something to eat, this level has Gayle V's Grilled Cheese among others. There's also a jewelry store. Above this is more shopping including Banana Republic and other typical stores in a mall. The top floor has an AMC Theater. Limited hours on most things however. They're open daily but even so things close early mostly it seems. Basic looking mall. It has limited hours for most stores. These close early especially on the weekends. read more

They have a lot of stores in the mall, which includes a zara store, and it has two floors. Zara store carried some amazing collection. There are a lot of good stores on Randolph Street to explore. I love the vibe of this street. It is lively and vibrant. The street has the chicago theater, and Macy's and both buildings are architecturally beautiful and a nice place to click pictures. read more

A shopping center in the middle of the Loop! The last time I was here--well, before my most recent visit--was prior to the pandemic when I went to Latinicity with a good friend of mine. It's too bad that place isn't here anymore. My most recent visit was last week. I had decided I wanted to visit the plant shop in Block 37 so I walked down on my lunch break. The place is surprisingly large--3 or 4 stories--and has a food court as well as many of the typical mall shops. They have a L'Occtaine store, so that's a good deal if you want some awesome shea butter lotion. There's also an AMC Theatre here; check the age limit because I think under 17 has to be accompanied by an adult. The place is not overly crowded the way a mall can be--and that's in respect to both shops and people. (In my opinion that's a good thing, by the way!) My favorite store is the plant shop, called The Potting Bench. It's a great little shop, with some beautiful plants. They have a classroom space and will be offering events soon! The folks running the shop are cool too, and the place and owners appear to be really committed to and passion about equity and inclusion which for me is a major plus. Even though I'm not a huge fan of snake plants, they helped me choose one (since I needed a plant for my office that can stand a bit of neglect, given I'm only in two days weekly at most, I figured I'd end up with a snake plant and did. But they potted it really beautifully. I don't have a lot of reason to go here in general but I'm sure I'll be back on occasion, if for no other reason than to visit The Potting Bench. read more

Block 37 was once a vacant block, waiting for a developer and after many starts and stops - the Block 37 mall was built. Hooray!!, you may say that but after my daily visits to the mall - it seems a little uninspiring. And this was the case before Covid. Sure, there's a Starbucks, a Krispy Kreme, a Banana Republic, a Theatre, a gym and direct connections to the Pedway, Blue and Redlines, etc., but one has to ask the question - Why is the foot traffic so limited? And there are plenty of retail spaces that remain available. I don't know if there's a silver bullet for all of this. Maybe they could use an anchor store? Or a really popular steak house or pizzeria? Or maybe another Marshall's? Or a touristy store focusing on Made In Chicago products? Maybe they can reinvent this mall, so that this block can finally reach its full potential. read more

Across from Macy's is a mini mall with some restaurants. Block 37 looks newish and it was not to busy. I did not feel I saw any stores that I would shop at but it is in a good location with some other quick-service restaurants. read more

I can't see this being a great mall. I am not sure if it should even be considered a mall. Its so small and stores are limited. I mean it is good that its located downtown and that means you can pick up something during lunch breaks. I came here after work at around 7:30 pm. There is hardly anyone at Block 37. The good news is, you can get there right from the blu or red car line. Sow when it is rainy or cold, there's no need to go airside. There are some good brand stores, like Banana Republic, Zara and a few others. Also, the have AMC theatre and gym. It everything is closed before 10 am on weekends :(. I like Block 37 I just don't love it. There seems to be a lot of space without a lot of "stuff" in it. I walked around and enjoyed the aesthetics of the property. I thought the open stairways angled in different directions looked nice. The few restaurants and shops that were there were great but I wish there were more of them. Then there would be more reasons to stop in. I did not go to the movie theater but it looked nice from the outside. I'm looking forward to returning to try the theater and dine at Latinicity. read more

The Disney Store's employee here is super rude. I came in here to browse around with my 4 year daughter after the CPS strike and one of the employee says "I cannot have my sign inside the store, and need to be left outside" I was already 10 minutes in the store and had to forced my daughter to leave because she was still browsing around. The two female employees was giving me the unwelcome look. First of all, I wasn't even waving my sign and my sign was small. I even folded the sign and held it closed to me so it wont get it the way. Clearly the employees here doesn't support us CPS teachers and staff during the strike. It's just a mediocre mall. It's fine. It's clean enough. There's some okay stores in it. But out of all the other shopping centers located in the same area, this one is the least interesting. There's nothing that really sets it apart and makes it a MUST visit location. A few stores include Akira, Anthropologie, Godiva, and Disney. I do like that there's a L'Occitane, but that's the only real draw. It's really creepily empty on the weekend, even in a mad holiday rush like this past weekend. I also think it's really annoying and inefficient that there's a bathroom on the second floor, and one in the basement level, but none on the main floor. Unless you're here for a specific reason, don't expect to kill more than 20 minutes looping around the mall. read more

We came here for one sole purpose, to check out the Cards Against Humanity pop-up shop. The employee that ran the shop was very friendly and knows her stuff. We ended up getting some theme packs to give away as presents. As for the mall itself, it was just meh. We tried to look around after visiting the pop-up shop but nothing drew us in. We found Latinicity, I definitely want to give that a try one day. But other than that, half of the storefronts are yet to open, which makes the mall looks a bit desolate... I'm sure over time it will improve and fill out, but I won't be back in the near future. read more

Love that this is a place in downtown! Love that it opened. I like all the stores in it. I am a huge fan of the accessible tunnels with the red line and blue line. I can easily shop, watch a movie, get dinner and then head home on the train without leaving the place. It's great! I definitely recommend checking it out if you are downtown. read more

I'm normally not in the Loop, however, Block 37 Center, was a prefect location to meet up with a friend before heading to a show. Granted this shopping mall was built right before the economy tanked, but this mall has soooo much potential for being one of the premer shopping areas in the loop. There are several great stores and smaller restaurants made Block 27 home. As many reviewers have stated, this is a pass through between the Blue Line and the Red Line trains so the clients are there. The center is very clean and has a great layout. I hope many additional stores, restaurants and a possible movie theater will make this home. read more

We visited mid-day in a Friday and it was practically empty. We didnt visit the food court but that looks pretty cool. Not the typical bright lights, bright colors and ubiquitous food offerings of a mall food court. We were hoping to kill some time before a movie but there just isnt much here. read more

The office manager at this mall is completely unhinged. The bathrooms on every floor were locked, the friend that I was with desperately needed to use a bathroom and with a box of tampons in her hand rang the managers office doorbell and pleaded that he unlock a bathroom for her. He dismissed us by assuring us that there was a bathroom on the first floor. When we got to that bathroom it was of course also locked, so we returned to his office. She explained to him that the bathroom was in fact not accessible and I asked her "How hard is it to unlock a door?" He then demanded to know what I had said, raising his voice at me. My friend at this point started to cry and was finally let into a bathroom by a security guard. As I waited for her outside the bathroom, this manager had followed us down the hall and was now cursing at me and telling me to leave saying that I had been rude to him. All other employees were very apologetic and confused by his delusional behavior. He continued to yell at me until my friend finished using the bathroom, and followed us, still yelling as we walked out the exit. I mean she was bleeding and crying, where is this man's humanity? It was truly bizarre. read more

I've been to a lot of malls in my life but this mall by far is one of the most underwhelming malls yet. I came here on a Sunday when I was just in the area. Over half the stores here aren't even opened, most of them are closed permanently and the stores they have open aren't really great either. One of the nastiest bathrooms I've visited. I will start here. I walked into Block 37 a few days after it opened. It started off small, just a couple of shops. Slowly it started to expand, especially with the Disney store, sephora and more. Including the museum (I wonder if it is still there). Now with addition of a used bookstore which I have found several gems. The amc dine in theater is a welcome addition. The new food court area is also top notch. There is so much take it. A perfect place to take some pictures with all the decor especially during Christmas time. Also a very relaxing place for a cup of coffee or a light lunch. A wonderful location. Thank you Block 37. You are a welcome addition to downtown Chicago. I will be back soon. This is a mall? It's more like a beautiful polished building with a few scattered stores. Some highlights: Latinacity, Magnolia Bakery, Anthro, AMC, etc. Besides that, it's pretty darn empty. A Banana Republic outlet is coming soon. I don't know the history of this place but it looks really new and maybe they are still working on inviting vendors and stores. So far, it just seems way too empty. Maybe it's still growing. But honestly, I wouldn't call it a mall right now.... it's def. not like the malls I'm used to. With all of the failed stops and starts Block 37 has had throughout the years, I'm convinced it's sitting on Daley's nuclear shelter, or gold mine, or that it's like that one building in Ghostbusters, an otherworldly portal. The fact that the lower levels of Block 37 shops are connected to the Pedway might support my first two assertions. Yes, you can get here from the Pedway! Three levels of shops and I think space for a movie theater. There are some good stores in here: Puma, L'Occitane, Sephora, Sabon, Steve Madden, Magnolia Bakery. Oh, and there are public bathrooms, yay. I'm glad I finally stopped in here, and hope Block 37 has many years of success. This space has lots of potential in a prime location. read more

I went here a couple of weeks ago for a reality show audition. Yep, I'm one of those people. I stood in line for a few hours checking out the stores and they do have a good variety of options. That being said, no one shops here on the weekend. It's nearly completely empty. If they wanted to film a zombie apocalyptic movie in a mega mall, this would be the perfect set. read more

Block 37 is a gift. When there was record breaking cold, the kind that makes your feet and legs numb, Block 37 gives you the opportunity to warm up in between transfers. There's a bookstore, a fabulous Prêt à Manger and other Dia de Los Tamales, Gayle's Best Ever Grilled Cheese, Lifeway Kefir Shop, and Magnolia on the pedway level, so you can thaw out before going back to the train. There's also a Banana Republic factory here, and a Zara. Warm and cozy. There's also an apartment complex here and a movie theatre. read more

I am pleasantly surprised at how nice Block 37 has become. Like a mini Water Tower Place with CTA underneath. I really do like the pedway, and you can get there from here. While there are not tons of stores, the mall is immaculate and the Sephora is very nice. Food is mostly downstairs, as are the restrooms. read more

Block 37, I want to love you and I'm sure I will one day, but right now, I have nothing but hate for you. Thanks to your legal problems with the developer, you have lost numerous shops that I would have loved to visit while at your mall. Seeing that you are just across the street from my work, I have been watching the construction of your building for years now, patiently waiting for the day you will open your doors. Yet, thanks to your problems, the stores I was most looking forward to are no longer coming, and the one store I was truly waiting for, Anthropologie, has suspended their opening. I looked forwarded to November 12th for the sole reason that Anthropologie will be opening its doors in your mall. November 12th went and passed, and still no Anthro. Thank you for crushing my hope! I hope to show you some more love in the future as you fill up with shops and hopefully put in a great cafeteria in your bottom level, but for now, I have to say thumbs down. You brought us south loopers all this excitement and expectation, just to let us down... for the time being. I am still giving you three stars because I feel bad for judging you before you are fully open, but all the stalling and development problems has really been frustrating for us south loop consumers! Came here a few nights ago to finally see Black Panther (I could write an entire review here about that movie but that's not why I'm here!). Obviously, the movie was amazing. As of today it's actually the highest grossing superhero film OF ALL TIME. But, I digress. This review and the rating I'm giving it is supposed to be about the movie theater at Block 37...but honestly, I'm still so blown away by the production value and pure epicness I was exposed me to thanks to BP. Anyway, the theater itself was a great venue and I think the fact that it was mostly empty made me enjoy the space a lot more. My friend and I only had to share the theater with a family that was sitting behind us. They seemed to enjoy the movie just as much as we did, laughing and giggling at appropriate moments. To be honest, the worst part of the experience was ordering food from the waitress that was on duty. In the beginning she gave us a rundown of the menu incredibly fast and then ran off. When I got to my reciept later, she dropped it off during the last fight scene which was a crucial part of the film. I was so annoyed by this. It wouldn't take much to drop off the receipt towards the end of the film - that would have been super considerate and much less annoying! Anyway, I wouldn't come back here again only because the screens were too small and I actually prefer going to theaters that don't have the dine-in option. Before we moved out of Chicago block 37 was just starting to develop and after all these years not much has improved. However if you need to do a little shopping or grab a quick bite while you're in the area this is ok. But definitely do not come out of your way to check it out. read more

This place is one of the biggest malls that I have ever seen. There are various shops to choose from like clothing shops and shoes, restaurants, movie theater and many more. The quality of the items is the best. The place is very clean and you definitely feel safe shopping here. They are observing health protocols. The place is so ambient and not so crowded. The parking space is quite spacious. I am enjoying this place when I need to unwind from the stress of life. Just come here and you will experience a stress-free moment. I will recommend Block 37 to all of my relatives and friends who are very fond of shopping. Buying relieves stress. Let's shop! read more

After a long history of failed deal development, Block 37 has a really nicely done gleaming shiny modern interior that is unfortunately mostly empty and eerily dead feeling (at least during the off hours that I am there), presumably because of the recession. This building has a bit of everything in it, restaurants, coffee shops, bakery, retail stores and more. I got here because I parked my car in the building, I was going somewhere else but ended up shopping and eating here. So I'll come back to enjoy the place. read more

It is difficult to rate a place like this since the primary reason for going here is the connection between the red line and blue line. When it is cold outside, it is nice to walk through an enclosed space. I have to say, the space is nice....However, the retail stores here are okay. I think this mall needs some anchor stores such as an Apple store or something of that nature. However, I think that they have a good selection of eateries which I have yet to try all of them, but they seem to cater to the downtown business community which is great. It is nice to see a place such as this mall that makes that connection between the two L lines. read more
