Landmark Review: So much potential! I wish Block 37 the best of luck in filling the rest of the stores as the design of the mall is top notch. It is quite modern and connected in the basement to the red/blue line and chicago pedway that allows you to walk over to macy and other parts of the loop without even stepping outside. The food court in the basement has simple thalia, andy's frozen custard, starfruit, which wich, beard papa, and more. There are a lot of great stores that I won't even list on here. Block 37 is a mall downtown that has some things I like: AMC Dine-in, Godiva, You Are Beautiful. However, it is missing a lot of stores and feels mostly like an empty mall. There is not a lot of traffic and the management needs to work hard to bring more tenants and shoppers in. My suggestion is to start with "branding" and make Block 37 unique and different. Came here for Tasting Table event on the 3rd floor. It's an amazing and open space up there that is suitable for all types of events. Has big windows overlooking State Street and high ceilings. This looks like a new up and coming mall - a really fantastic idea to have it be directly connected to the CTA. They have your typical fancy stores - was really excited that they have Sabon here. There's also an Anthropology, Zara, and Magnolia Bakery! read more

Block 37 is one of the popular places on State Street and very easy to spot. They have accessible tunnels through City Hall and Macy's/ Red and Blue Line Subway, which are convenient for travelers. They have a Sephora and a few other well known stores as well as some upscale restaurants and a movie theatre. My only issue is I wish they had more stores because not everyone wants to travel out of the way to the Mag Mile. It's nice, but wish they had more stores. read more

I hate that I have to use an online website to express my disgust for things. However, this is the exact platform I need to complain when no one in upper management is professional enough to solve an adult situation. Especially when I've contacted customer service and filed an incident report (incident report number 181127-003648) and was promised someone would contact me within 24 hours and 48 hours later, we have yet to receive a call. I even provided an alternate cell phone number just in case... If I could, I would rate this theater experience as a zero. Our experience as a "loyalty customer" was everything but loyal... I'm puzzled as to why you'd hire an adolescent, immature and unprofessional "manager" to complete adult job duties. It makes no sense to me. Your kiosk/computer system double charged us for two sets of tickets. There was not a single employee or "manager on duty" who was able to reverse one of the two transactions. It's been boggling my mind. It's simply inexcusable. Two out of the five people in our party had to leave the theater, one to get the original credit card used (which was never submitted online, we didn't purchase the tickets yet because we were unsure as to what time dinner would be over, nor did we get a confirmation email completing our purchase) and the other person, (me) to go outside and complain about the dual charges and the fact that we missed half the movie... what was I paying for, to watch the credits? Gerald, the on-duty "manager" did everything in his power to show us that he we were not a priority. At first, he didn't understand what was happening (as we didn't either, because it was two separate credit cards) the cashier didn't know how to explain it to him and he just wasn't listening to us. After he allowed us to speak (none of the previous conversations included us, why would it?!) we explained in detail that it was two separate credit cards, one on file and the one I used to pay for the tickets. We pulled in the ticket clerk who verified we already bought other seats, we both showed him the paper receipts and we both pulled up our credit card transactions to prove we were charged twice. He couldn't offer an explanation at all, the only response we got was "we can't issue a refund if the credit card from the online purchase wasn't available, which we were ok with, we didn't care which card was refunded, we just wanted one refund... his other answer made no sense. He stated if he refunded my tickets, the seats would become available for someone else to purchase; mind you, it's 1 hour and 5 minutes into the movie... he flipped the screen around, cutting us both off mid sentence, and in a higher tone voice demanded "so which seats you at?" Yah, no, that's not how you speak to customers. He continued to have a conversation with the cashier and completely ignored the fact that we we missed half the movie. He stated if we bring him the original credit card, he could refund the first transaction as a "courtesy." Umm, this was not a courtesy credit, this was an error with your system. The only type of courtesy we wanted would have been from him, as an upper management team member. But we received nothing but a horrible attitude and a very unpleasant experience. He rolled his eyes, spoke over us and walked away in the middle of our concerns. To act that ridiculous and unprofessional in front of other staff members is setting the tone for other employees to think it's ok to treat customers in such a disrespectful manner. How was this even the manager?? The worst part about this entire night was that it was my birthday, so thanks for ruining that. The manager did not need to cop an attitude, it was so unnecessary. We weren't even rude or screaming (yet)... this has got to be one of the most unprofessional people I've ever come across. The error was your system, your kiosk, amc's fault... why he felt it was ok to throw an attitude at us, I will not understand. This is the tone he set for all the staff working that night; that it's ok to treat customers poorly, offer no apology or be able to solve an AMC error on his own. Poor, poor, poor managerial training, poor system; horrible staff, horrible experience... I will never come here again. I'll be sure to cancel the "disloyal" membership we have... I will also be disputing this charge with my credit card company. I am not paying for a movie that I only watched half of. Thanks Gerald! Paid $12 in advance to park at Block 37 through Parking.com. When I exited, I was forced to pay $32 to raise the gate. Complained to both Block 37 and the parking website. No replies from either company. Even if they had replied, they would likely have blamed each other anyway. So $44 to park when every other garage in the area charges $20-$25. Never again. read more

Today I stopped into Block 37 on my lunch break. I'm in TROUBLE, this fine establishment is 2 blocks from my office! Block 37 has a pedway connecting the red line and blue line. Those of you who ride these L lines won't have to walk in the cold, snow, rain or heat! I stopped into Starfruit for a Friday frozen treat. There is also a Beard Papa's and Au Bon Pain in the Pedway. You can grab a coffee and a cream puff on your way to the office. There isn't much open in Block 37 at the moment. The stores that are open for business: Zara, Puma, Sunglass Hut, Antrhopologie, Godiva, Steve Madden and another body care shop (I can't recall the name). Coming soon to B37: Sephora (my beauty crack!) and L'Occitane. This mall is going to be a hit with downtown shoppers and loop workers! I can't wait to go back once my favorite beauty store opens up. read more

The wait for Block 37 (and all the drama that went along with it) was well worth it. Block 37 has a great selection of stores and restaurants. Also, I love that it's attached to both the red and blue line stations via pedway. It makes my commute super easy, especially if I need to pick something up at one of the stores or grab a coffee or a sandwich on the go. read more

Nice sized mall, just a few floors and a small footprint. A little bit of this and a little of that. Some clothing, jewelry, a Sephora, and a Godiva. Many of the usual suspects. There is a store called Milk that has handcrafted items from local and independent designers. There is easy access from both the red and blue lines without having to go outside, on the lower level. The lower level has a couple of food options, and a cute although touristy store with all things Chicago. Even a local can appreciate a Chicago tee-shirt or a fun winter hat. Easy to get around in, not crowded at all. Nice little mix of stores it's still filling out, clean restrooms that mall security pops in and out of. read more

I've been holding out hope that Block 37 will improve with time, as the economy rebounds and stores see the potential of being directly in the middle of the standard Red/Blue commute home. Unfortunately, I've seen two businesses close up shop already, and that's just on the Pedway level. Nearly everything is closed on the weekends except Anthropologie (which is the only reason I stop here any more) and a handful of smaller stores. Let's stop reviewing this place based on potential and review it on its current situation. If it gets better, come back and write an updated review, because THAT IS HOW YELP WORKS. It's a great place to get out of the cold or rain when there are activities at Daley Plaza (Christkindlemarkt, holla!) but it's not a destination in itself. And that single fact is a super bummer. Block 37 is like a city mall in the midst of all the other shopping located on State Street. The hidden treasure here is the Ladies and Gentlemen Aveda salon. It's on the 3rd floor, but since no floors are really utilized pass 2 I think people tend to forget about it. On a side note: I'm curious when the supposedly movie theater on the 4th floor will open up? Other stores (at least I like) worth mentioning are Magnolia Bakery (yum!), Sephora (love to stop in after work if I have an event to go to and need to touch up real quick), Sabon (Pricey, but I love their body mists), Akira (like the unique tops...if I can fit them). On the ped way level you can catch the red line and they even have some restaurants down there. I like Simply Thalia. Simply Thalia has $5.00 lunch specials, but what I usually get is the spicy top ramen noodles. On Thursdays and Fridays they started doing Nosh lunches, which is sort of like an indoor food vendor market. Tried the grilled cheese today and it was delicious. Sorry for the tease though Nosh will only be around for another two weeks. At least Block 37 it appears may be around for longer. read more

There really were not that many places to shop. The Disney store was probably the best in Block 37. Very empty which was sad.

I am so loving Block 37 so far. I will have to admit I was not a full on advocate for this massive monstrosity but so far its shaping up to really bring back the overall shopping and entertainment experience to State St. I love Sephora, Puma, Zara, and Au Bon Pain. Every time I go in there some new store has open. I think once it fills up and everything is open for business I think this is going to be the new happening spot of downtown. read more

You want to talk about location, it doesn't get much better than here if you are a retail shop. Not only is it located in the heart of the Loop but it is also conveniently located in between the Blue and Red lines. What's the deal then? The vacancy rate here is ridiculous. During the winter this place was in a convenient location to come inside and warm up from the cold. Now that the weather is improving, I have absolutely no reason to come in here. Nada! Zip! A cool block of stores! It's located near the ABC7 news area, where you can peek in and see the news anchors reporting live! We didn't get to explore around too much, but they have a pretty cool Anthropologie, which is two stories. Reminds me of my favorite location in Beverly Hills! We also stopped by a comic book store, but it was rather small - almost reminded me of a stand. Although I can find almost all the stores in LA, this was still a pretty good shopping mall and conveniently located near a bunch of other huge department stores, such as Nordstroms and Macy's! read more

This place is huuuge. I like coming here. Everytime I am here it is quiet and clean. Not like normal malls with loud obnoxious music and crazzzzy teens all over the place. I really only go out of my way to come here to go to Zara only because there is an easier time finding parking here. This place has stores like akira, puma and sephora, a movie theater that I keep forgetting about, and it is quick and easy to get to from the red line or the blue line. This is a 4 story shopping center. The basement is a food court with the 1st and 2nd floor being clothing and accessory stores. The 3rd floor is starting to get to business offices yet there are a few shops there. There were a good amount of stores yet not that much of a variety to make it a shopping destination. So I have seen this mall since the very beginning...when there were only a few stores existent. Now the basement, first, and second floor are starting to fill up more... and I expect a lot more stores to come around in the next year. This is the best place to escape the hectic city streets surrounding the mall. The best thing to do is grab some Beard Papas/Auntie Anne's and then head up to the first floor and take a seat on the lovely tiled benches... Not that many people come but should! Also, Magnolia Bakery from NYC just opened, haven't gone but will definitely check it out! In the past, they have also had art by local artists on the top floors. Other good stores in Block 37 that I enjoy: Anthropologie, Akira, L'occitane, Steve Madden (yes, I am a girl, clearly). Anyway, check it out. Fun place to stop by when friends from out of town come. It is pretty empty and their is no real food court like most malls. Also, the store selection is limited as of right now. The cool part is, it is connected to the redline so in bad weather, you don't have to go outside!!!!! I would eat before you go since there really isn't a great coffee place like a Gloria Jean's or Starbucks either so that sucks. NO PARKING HERE SO TRAIN, CTA, BUS OR CAB IT! There is no parking in the loop ever and the risk of a million $$$ ticket is not worth it either. Parking lots are a rip off too! Take the train or bus stops are outside and very easy!!!! Can't really say anything bad about Block 37; however, the AMC theater irked me some last night for the presentation of the Tarzan movie. Block 37 is smack in the middle, somewhat, of the whole "pedway" experience...from the Aqua Building to City Hall. I guess I have to admit that I am a pedway rat. If I can't get to you via the pedway, I probably won't visit your store...whatever that might be. This might be petty; but, to have the sound at optimum when there are only 8 people in the theater, it is very uncomfortable. Especially, if everyone has the same request to lower the volume. What is irking is when the hosts tell you they will, but DO NOT is like lying to the customers. Lie to me, and you will never see me back! Maybe that's why there was only 8 of us there...they got lied to also! read more

Block 37 has a bunch of stores that are higher-end and I have to resist going into on my way home from work. Sephora? Akira? Anthropologie? L'Occitaine? Are you really trying to make me give you my hard-earned money? I haven't really been anywhere besides the pedway level and ground floor, except for one time when I had to use the ladies. I went to the 2nd floor and was a bit perplexed; why were there only 2 stalls in this partially-empty mall? There soon was a line of about 10 women who had to use the toilet. I think that was a bit of an architectural mishap. but otherwise, I will be back here. read more

In fact, I only knew this place was here because of a walking your of the city I took. This is a good place to hang-out with friends or family. It has restaurants, shops, a tunnel access to CTA train, and a Dine-In Theater. So there is always something to do. Since this is a new place, I recommend this to visitors and Chicagoans. The movie theater is a branch of AMC and it is a dine-in theater which means they bring you food during a movie. Though this is a little pricey compared to traditional theaters, The experience is worth it because the theater offers the comforts of home. Remember to reserve your seats online for the movie beforehand. The Shops are varied from watches to clothes and there are restaurants in the sub level and on the 3rd or 4th floor. read more

Great mall. One stop dine catch a movie do a little shopping. There is parking in this building.

I am ever so thankful for Block37. Ya the name is a bit lame but the design and what it has to offer is wonderful! Not to mention that it's a LEED Certified building and did away with the old brick building with the ugly robot mural. A large portion of the entertainment center is vacant however it's exciting to see new stores/restaurants pop up as time passes. For now, there are several great shops like Godiva Chocolates, Akira, Puma, Antropologie, Sabon, Steven Madden, Zara, Sephora, L'Occitane and the brand new Disney Store. On top of that, there's some great snack options like the infamous Beard Papa's cream puffs, Starfruit, Au Bon Pain, and Auntie Anne's Pretzels. They all can be found hiding in the underground pedway connecting the CTA's Red and Blue lines. A soon to be revealed "Lettuce Entertain You" restaurant will be appearing soon. In addition, there is a fancy movie theatre similar to the Icon in the Roosevelt Collection, a hotel, and luxury residential all in the works. I am excited to see what Block37 has in store for the State Street Shopping District. For now, a building to pass through during horrible weather or to use a clean washroom is definitely four-stars worthy. read more

If you are looking at renting space from the CIM Group...BEWARE!!!!!!!! I don't know what their business model is but they will not show up for meetings that they set with you; Well, they will call you when you show up and cancel. They will tell you one price and then change it by $10K! I tried to book a New Years Eve Party with CIM Group. At first everything was great. When time to see the space, i show up and get an email cancelling on me. I call to re-schedule for the next day. I arrive and wait for 30 minutes before my contact shows up. While i am waiting, I get an email saying, "I'm sorry, but the price will be $15K instead of the $6k that i quoted in the beginning." All while i am waiting in the lobby for my 2:30 meeting and now it's 3:00. My contact walks in and past me. I had to ask if she was Ellen. Then she say, "Oh, you still want to see the space?" Morning. Sometime in June. Unable to sleep, writhing on my Leesa mattress, still in my scrubs, my head feeling like someone lit a bonfire on it, in it, a constant searing pain that keeps both eyes open, utterly helpless, Bae stops by and pulls me out of bed and drags me to the blue line where we get off on Washington and head into Block 37, creatures moving in the peripherals of my vision, antennae and legs, the mall is largely empty for a Friday, or maybe it's due to the four floors of shops and restaurants and boutiques that the crowds are evenly spread, and Bae immediately heads to Local Charm, a moderately priced jewelry store where she lets a necklace hang in her hand as the light glimmers in the jewels. It's only now that I notice she doesn't wear the necklace I bought her off Etsy for her birthday, a thin gold chain strung with dead, bleached bits of the Great Barrier Reef. The AMC theater here has a bar called MacGuffin Lounge, obviously named after the plot device famously coined by Alfred Hitchcock. Feigning concern, Bae stares at her reflection in the vanity mirror as she holds a pair of diamond studs to her ears and asks if I want a drink. But there is no liquor, no food, no drug that can appease this greedy pain, all my muscles are stiff, all my nerves burning, on fire. So we carry on. Bags are accumulating in my hands, their handles cutting into my forearms and the crook of my elbow: Sephora, Anthropologie, Bucketfeet, Zara, a tiny bag from L'Occitane en Provence filled with lavender bars of soap, fragrances, some men toiletries The Bae wants me to start using. I'm still wearing bloody scrubs, breathing in deeply. This is my reality. Everything outside of this is like some movie I once saw. Located on the pedway level is a Simply Thalia that specializes in adequate Asian Fusion. Jump-zoom to me making painful, writhing facial expressions as I try to decipher the menu, which is in fact written in English. There are 7 salads to choose from, each with a topping distinctive to its selection. As soon as I decide which one to order, it pales to the other alternatives. There are 19 kinds of maki, 18 kinds of sushi, 11 kinds of rolls. Every 30 seconds a book is published. This is useful information. A waitress takes away our menus and I assume we've placed an order. The Bae looks at her phone the whole time, laughing at whatever's on the screen, only ever talking to repeat the title of some listicle. I imagine my own vacant face, the disembodied voice coming from its mouth: Are you there? The drool pouring from my lips dribbles over a plate of Peking duck wrapped in rice paper, mixed with duck breasts, cilantro, bean sprouts and hoisin sauce, and though the dish is framed perfectly in my phone screen I still can't tell if the photos are coming out blurry because I'm crying too hard and I have never really done this before. read more
