The line on a Monday afternoon

Identical experiences as before. Long lines. Lack of costumer service. And employees move with absolutely no sense of urgency. They just don't GAF and it shows.

It's a mess in here and the cashiers move so slow. The Bronx has to do better for real.

This Target is right around the corner and lets me pick up the little things I need for my home. This is a large location filled with groceries, clothing, electronics, and anything else you might need. It is always packed with people coming in and out. The only downside of this location is the super long lines. It might take you a couple minutes to pick up something but it takes me close to half an hour to get out. On the weekends you are stuck in a long line of families picking up their groceries. I would much rather order online and have delivery services rather than wasting time on a line. This is a good location to pick up things on a non-busy time. However, I would tend to avoid the evenings and weekends as you will be stuck waiting for a long time.

I come here weekly and have always…read morefound what I'm looking for whether it's groceries, electronics, or personal care products. The store is large so you can use the kiosks situated throughout the isles to locate your items. Some products are enclosed behind glass so you'll have to press the help button to flag down an employee who will unlock the case for you with their key. This sadly adds to the wait time of your overall shopping experience. Another inconvenience is that their self checkout lines often won't accept cash. I've had to leave the express line twice in the last month only to go to the regular line where customers have many more items to check out. This added about 15 extra minutes to my trip. This made me suspicious of their business practices because studies show customers spend more when they pay with a card rather than cash. It makes me wonder if this is just a ploy to go cashless so they can save themselves overhead and get their customers to rack up charges on their credit card.

I beg to differ. Yes, it's a mess. Yes, you have to dig. But I effin dig this place. To me, Sears…read moreis a secret charm of the Bronx. The place is packed with racks of clothes, most of which are perfectly in line with Fordham Road fashion. It is not an attractive store, but hello it's just a Sears in the first place. In New Jersey, I won't go near the place. I took a chance one day though and drifted across Fordham Rd in search of anything that was not in my closet. Store credit in hand (Sears, department store that it is, sells jewelry and it is not necessarily cheap--so return that yellow gold necklace your great uncle bought that isn't quite your taste and buy some stuff) I browsed the nearly-claustrophobic aisles, if they can even be called aisles. Really it isn't insanely hard to find something fun. Though there's a ton of stuff I wouldn't touch, I've bought a couple nice tops and some tanks in the few times I've gone. There is nothing wrong with them either. Sears does not, we discovered to our dismay when we had unexpected snow, sell gloves and hats or good boots. But what do you want from a Sears in the Bronx?? Swanky people, stay away. This is not for you, but you would never consider entering in the first place. Leave me to love my cheap department store.

Let me first say that this is not about any specific Sears store but Sears unfair cortporate pricing policies. I have a sears refrigerator (Kenmore) for a few years now. The water filters cost me about $35 until a year ago when the price increased to $38. Also, if you buy 2 or more, Sears' excessive handling charge of about $9 is charged on each unit. So effectively the filter costs about $46 each sales tax. I looked up the site of the "Pur" company which made the filters for Sears and found the same ones in Amazon for $30 each with no handling charge. So I saved $17 per filter. Then there was my research to have my kitchen cabinet doors replaced. A very small kitchen. By the time the salesman got finished with the plans to build out the cabinets, replacing all of the counter tops and back splashes, the total was about $15,000. Christ, it only cost me $10,000 to have the kitchen gutted and rebuilt, including stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. Needless to say, I just polished up the cabinet doors and, since the counters and backsplashes are still in mint condition, bought some polish/sealant to restore the luster and saved $15,000. Sears, smarten up! This is a recession for god's sake!

You'll find a mix of stores like Burlington, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Macys backstage, Gap factory, and then random stores like 'Pretty Girl" selling very cheap clothing or Hot Point selling women's clubbing style clothes. It is quite the mix! In the summer catch the carts selling iceys or water bottles from a cooler. It gets crowded. You'll hear a lot of Spanish as there is a heavy Dominican population. It didn't feel unsafe given how busy it was mid-day. Felt a bit like parts of Harlem. Close to Bronx Zoo & Fordham University.

You'll be able to find several retail shops to buy items such as clothing and jewelry as well franchises like GameStop that are locally owned and operated. Unfortunately the large crowds attracts unsavory characters like hustlers selling marijuana and others enticing the crowd to play three card Monte on the streets. I have been personally grabbed without consent by one of them who wanted me to play the game. Another disappointment is the large amount of vagrants who are high on drugs by Jerome Avenue. I've seen them crouched down as if they were statues on the streets. Last summer there was a shooting by the grand concourse that happens a few minutes after I passed by. There needs to be a heavier police presence in the area.
