I went into Marshalls today to pick up a few items and I was exhausted from the experience before I even started to shop. There was a line downstairs at the first register and people were arguing which is never a good sign. The the escalator to go upstairs was not working which is a usual occurrence here. One of the escalator is always down at this location. As I walked up the escalator you are greeting by clutter up to the ceiling it is like someone started to put something away but moved on to something else. They changed the layout of the store and put shoes where men's clothes once was and now home items are in the shoes place. I did not look around further but the store was a wreck. I found some new work sneakers in the clearance section and I was very excited because I was only in there 10 minutes tops. So next was the line it started to wrap around the store and boy were the customers on line angry. They only had 2 people on the register. The customer had to beg and scream for a manager to be called and this women took her time. Asking the other cashiers where was everyone else. She then proceeded to call for cashiers over the air and no person came. We stood in line for 25 minutes before a third person came to help and move the line but, not before screaming at the manager for calling them on the loud speaker. This store is highly unorganized and need customer service training a few more times. No one smiled nor were we greeted and offered an apologize for having to wait. It really makes you think about coming back to this location if we are going to be treated like we as people don't matter nor is our time important to them. I doubt I will be back anytime soon. I will stick to Marshalls in Manhattan.

The sales associate was quick and efficient to get my purse unlocked. The line was quite long and the cashiers were very very slow.

I am so happy to have found Marshall's in the Fordham area. I got exactly what I needed (dress, sheets, underwear etc...) for cheap prices!

All of the oils were locked up, which I understand is store policy. However, what upset me was the inconsistency in how the policy appeared to be applied. A young Hispanic woman in front of me asked to see a perfume, and the employee allowed her to continue shopping while holding it. When I selected the Sand + Fog oil that I wanted, I was told it had to be taken directly to the register. I said okay because I had no issue following the rules, but I couldn't help but notice the difference in treatment. I also planned to purchase an eyebrow pencil, but after that interaction, I felt uncomfortable and disappointed. It made me feel as though I was being judged as a potential thief over a $14 bottle of perfume, and no customer should be made to feel that way. To make matters worse, the checkout line was extremely long with only two cashiers working. I chose to wait and complete my purchase because I wanted to make a point that I was there to shop, not steal. At the register, I expressed my concerns to the employee and explained that people should not be stereotyped or treated differently based on assumptions about who they are. My friend who was with me is an NYPD officer, and she also addressed the situation, explaining that someone's race does not determine their intentions or character.

This Target is right around the corner and lets me pick up the little things I need for my home. This is a large location filled with groceries, clothing, electronics, and anything else you might need. It is always packed with people coming in and out. The only downside of this location is the super long lines. It might take you a couple minutes to pick up something but it takes me close to half an hour to get out. On the weekends you are stuck in a long line of families picking up their groceries. I would much rather order online and have delivery services rather than wasting time on a line. This is a good location to pick up things on a non-busy time. However, I would tend to avoid the evenings and weekends as you will be stuck waiting for a long time.

The place is packed with racks of clothes, most of which are perfectly in line with Fordham Road fashion. It is not an attractive store, but hello it's just a Sears in the first place. In New Jersey, I won't go near the place. I took a chance one day though and drifted across Fordham Rd in search of anything that was not in my closet. Store credit in hand (Sears, department store that it is, sells jewelry and it is not necessarily cheap--so return that yellow gold necklace your great uncle bought that isn't quite your taste and buy some stuff) I browsed the nearly-claustrophobic aisles, if they can even be called aisles. Really it isn't insanely hard to find something fun. Though there's a ton of stuff I wouldn't touch, I've bought a couple nice tops and some tanks in the few times I've gone. There is nothing wrong with them either. Sears does not, we discovered to our dismay when we had unexpected snow, sell gloves and hats or good boots. But what do you want from a Sears in the Bronx?? Swanky people, stay away. This is not for you, but you would never consider entering in the first place. Leave me to love my cheap department store.

Let me first say that this is not about any specific Sears store but Sears unfair cortporate pricing policies. I have a sears refrigerator (Kenmore) for a few years now. The water filters cost me about $35 until a year ago when the price increased to $38. Also, if you buy 2 or more, Sears' excessive handling charge of about $9 is charged on each unit. So effectively the filter costs about $46 each sales tax. I looked up the site of the "Pur" company which made the filters for Sears and found the same ones in Amazon for $30 each with no handling charge. So I saved $17 per filter. Then there was my research to have my kitchen cabinet doors replaced. A very small kitchen. By the time the salesman got finished with the plans to build out the cabinets, replacing all of the counter tops and back splashes, the total was about $15,000. Christ, it only cost me $10,000 to have the kitchen gutted and rebuilt, including stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. Needless to say, I just polished up the cabinet doors and, since the counters and backsplashes are still in mint condition, bought some polish/sealant to restore the luster and saved $15,000. Sears, smarten up! This is a recession for god's sake!
