I came to the Bronx to buy some fabrics and to my dismay, the store was closed, even though it said on Google (and in the posted hours of operation) that ot was open. What to do, look for another store that sold fabric nearby. Lucky for me, there is one right across the street. Save-A-thon isn't a fabric store per se, but it's a jack of all trades stop that sells everything from craft supplies, home decor, accessories and more. They do however have a lot of fabric, FOR CHEAP!!! I don't know if this is irregular, dead stock , overstock or what, but they have some very good quality fabric way under priced. I was like a kid in a candy store here. Because I didn't have that much space in my suitcase. I didn't buy as much as I wanted to, but I bought enough where I have to mail some home lol. They sell some amazing cuts of leather that I wish I would've been able to purchase anything from small cuts for $10 to complete hide sized cuts for a little over $100 unbelievable price of leather. I didn't much look at anything else they sell other than the fabric. I am most definitely coming back the next time I'm in New York . read more

Just checking out my old haunt in their new digs...I must say...I LOVE IT! This location is MUCH larger than the previous which allows the inventory to "breath" as well as allowing Sav-a-thon to expand their offerings!. It was great seeing familiar faces and I look forward to becoming familiar with all the new ones as well. This shop hasn't been open very long. Its very bright and clean and the selection of fabrics are amazing. Be sure to check out their embossed vinyls. Their arts & crafts section is coming along and if you are a knitter or crocheter...check out their wide selection of yarn! If you are into bling....there is a section dedicated to faux rhinestone on the main floor. This Sav-a-thon could easily rival Lady Jane's given some time. I'm here for it! read more

I was thrilled to have this store close home , there is a decent variety of fabrics , art/craft supplies and even sewing machines . They could have used their space batter and have a larger variety of fabrics , but this is not the main problem with this store . The man cutting the fabric on the second floor , has a very unpleasant demeanor . He doesn't offer any help , he is sitting there checking his phone and ignoring people . I asked him for 2 yards of a fabric and he seemed extremely bothered by the interruption, please read the other reviews and do something about this person's behavior. There is another store selling fabrics a few feet away , so I won't be coming back here . I've been going to this location for about 15 years now and always found what i needed for a project. This is an excellent store for art supplies. Love it. The staff is very nice, the prices are excellent. An artist's dream for me I love it.

No elevator for those that have a physical disability. A long flight of stairs. When I questioned that if I was in a wheelchair that I would be unable to shop, the associates shrugged their shoulders and said "yeah you would not be able to." Submitted a complaint to the ADA. read more

Store is huge but, lacks any real items worth purchasing. Store was not organized and stuff was on the floor...come on you just opened. Upstairs staff two men and a lady were not cordial or helpful. One latin guy who cuts the material looked very miserable. The other man and lady were so engrossed hlin the trials and tribulations the man has with women. I have taken up sewing in the past couple of weeks. I went there because it is right around the corner from the fabric store I use. Searching the web it was to have singer machine parts namely a quilting foot - not that one but ever other foot was there. Thread is scarce- a box with one type and some colors.....I'm going to continue to use Amazon! Oh, and when i asked for serger lessons, the lady told me no then asked me how much i wanted to pay. I would have paid if she was more confident. No thank you, i can figure it out on my own. Matter of fact, my quilted reversible table runner and matching placemats turned out great. read more

I have been shopping here (their old location diagonally across the street and their current location) for probably 20 years since it's near my office. It's right off the 4 train Fordham stop and a walkable distance from the D train Fordham stop. They have a great selection of fabric and yarn (synthetic yarn, but no natural fibers) at decent prices. They also have other craft supplies. The only downside is that their customer service is terrible. The employees, particularly the surly cashiers, act as if you are disturbing them if you ask them for help. So, if you know exactly what you are looking for when you walk into the store and don't have any questions, you will love this place. read more

They've just moved to this location so the shelves aren't fully stocked yet. Not a single member of the staff greeted me or ask if I needed help. Nor did they acknowledge me when I asked for help. (This is the reason behind the 3 stars) There are so good, basis fabrics (all poly/cotton blend) for very cheap prices. They carry a limited amount of buttons, zippers, elastic, Velcro and other notions. They do also carry some sewing supplies if you need the basics. They only carry Butterick patterns. They have a decent amount of craft & baking supplies. Amazingly they have leather hides for really good prices. The 1st floor is mostly flowers & party supplies. They also sell sewing machines & sergers (Brother or Singer brand) The 2nd floor is fabrics, craft supplies, painting supplies and all the sewing notions. I'll return if I need something basic & don't want to go all the way into the Fashion district for something. read more

They are not helpful. Even the manager also couldn't allow to help. It's not neat and clean. They have to trained what is customers right and obligation. As like a store that has a name, the workers also have to know their right and obligation. And the other thing what I saw is the workers are not honesty. I put my phone at the time to try something but I don't get my phone back. And when I go back to there, they didn't want to open the door for me. As like a customer, I have to get my phone until something shows it's my phone and opening the door was their compulsory. read more

save a thon. i work near this place and i teach kids, so i usually need some craft supplies and i usually go here for them. BUT. when i need REAL craft supplies (read: for MYSELF) i wouldn't consider it a great option. You can get boye knitting needles and needles and thread and polyester batting and stuff, all at normal prices. but the yarn is all acrylic and the fabric is all polyester. well, sometimes they do have good dollar a yard sales on weird fabric that comes from who-knows-where. for example, i've seen stretch jersey in several colors and some muslin that someone told me was leftover from an old funeral parlor, but i'm not sure if that's really true. they might have decent prices for floor model sewing machines of the singer/brother persuasion, but i'm not really in the market so i don't know for sure. i saw a crotchety old lady complaining that the machine she'd recently bought didn't come with a needle. she was really FREAKING out. the line was backed way up to the end of the fake flower aisle and i don't think anyone thought to tell her that for just 3 dollars she could get a whole pack of sewing machine needles and it's really no big deal. this place is really no cheaper than fabric/craft stores in manhattan, so if it's not right next door to where you teach art to first graders i would skip it. read more

I used to shop at their old location but the new location is much better and bigger. Allowing them to carry more variety of fabrics and supplies. I would recommend when going to not only check their second floor but the first one as well. Their fabrics are high quality for cheap prices. Definitely will go there again!! read more

I appreciate the deals as they are a bit pricier that Michael's on the Columbus Ave. Convenient location if you are on the East Side and the young women who work there are VERY helpful. A great local place for crafts and cake decorator materials. Plan ahead - they host cake decorator classes and are not always fully stocked - I think the student buy quite a bit. read more

What is this world coming to? This morning, the store was a few minutes late at opening because only one person was present. That is understandable. However, the female employee falsely accused me of cursing. I was wearing my mask (she was not wearing one) and was overheating due to the weather outside and lack of air conditioning in the store. Therefore, I said, "Shoot", as I could not breath. She yelled at me, "Stop saying shit! It's too early for that!" I explained to her that I said, "Shoot!" She rudely replied, "I heard you! You said it three times!" I politely corrected her and asked her to not make any false accusations against me. Later on, she started complaining in Spanish with another customer while a third customer is waiting to be serviced. Being the recipient of misguided anger is not my idea of what customer service should include. It also destroys one's good morning. The last time I was there, another customer and an employee had a verbal disagreement. read more
